Merz is dreaming of German troops in Ukraine.

Among the many sticking issues under discussion in the Russia-Ukraine peace process, is the matter of ‘security guarantees’ for Kiev.

The US administration of Donald J. Trump has offered Volodymyr Zelensky what they term as ‘platinum’ guarantees, a ‘Article-5 level’ security guarantees – but only if they choose peace soon.

In the meantime, the European ‘powers’, led by failing liberal-Globalist leaders, have been insisting in the presence of ‘peacekeeping troops’ after the peace agreement.

The problem is, of course, that Russia will never accept ‘peacekeepers’ from openly hostile western European nations, though in the past they’ve signaled openness to discuss a peacekeeping force formed by neutral nations.

Failing German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has found some protagonism among Europeans in the recent rounds of talks, to the chagrin of France’s Emmanuel Macron.

Now, emboldened by the last events, he has opined that German troops ‘could participate in a coalition to secure a demilitarized zone in Ukraine’.

That is patently absurd, since Moscow has not only rejected European troops, but also has not agreed to any demilitarized zone.

But the kicker is: Merz wants his German boots in the ground under rules allowing them to ‘retaliate against corresponding Russian incursions and attacks’.

Report: At Least 2 of the 5 Leftist New Year’s Eve Bombing Suspects Are Transgender

A new report claims that two of five people arrested in connection with what the FBI said was a plot to unleash a wave of terrorist bombings in Los Angeles on New Year’s Eve are transgender.

The FBI said that the people arrested were a splinter group of the Turtle Island Liberation Front, which federal officials said has a pro-Palestinian, anti-law-enforcement, and anti-government ideology, according to USA Today. The suspects were part of a Signal group chat calling itself “Order of the Black Lotus.”

FBI Director Kash Patel named four suspects — Audrey Ilene Carroll, 30; Dante Garfield, 24; Zachary Aaron Page, 32; and Tina Lai, 41– and said five businesses were being targeted.

The defendants also allegedly discussed using pipe bombs to attack U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facilities, with Carroll accused of saying, “That would take some of them out and scare the rest of them.”

Journalist Andy Ngo said there is another dimension to the arrests.

A female doctor was found dead in a Dollar Tree freezer in Miami this week.

32-year-old Helen Massiell Garay Sanchez was found deceased and naked inside the store’s walk-in freezer in Little Havana on Sunday.

Sanchez reportedly entered the Dollar Tree the night before she was found. She made no purchases and was found in an area designated for employees only.

Authorities say no foul play is suspected.

“Originally from Nicaragua, Dr. Garay dedicated her life to medicine, earning recognition as a Anesthesiologist specializing in congenital heart disease whose work brought hope and healing to countless children and families. Her compassion, skill, and commitment to saving young lives defined both her career and her character,” Sanchez’s family said on GoFundMe.

“Beyond her profession, she was a loving mother to two children, who remain in Nicaragua and were the center of her world. Her strength, warmth, and unwavering love for her family will always be remembered,” the family said.

“Dr. Helen Garay passed away following a tragic accident while abroad. Her family’s greatest wish is to bring her home to Nicaragua so she may receive a proper funeral and final resting place surrounded by loved ones,” the family said.

Top European officials met on Tuesday in The Hague in order to establish an international commission to oversee eventual reparations to compensate Ukraine for Russia's military invasion. President Volodymyr Zelensky and EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas were present for the high level talks in The Netherlands.

The International Claims Commission for Ukraine will assess and decide on claims for reparations, and will determine and discharge any amount to be paid out. This is likely to see hundreds of billions of dollars eventually flow to Ukraine for the sake of rebuilding and keeping the civic services sector afloat after nearly four years of war.

A New Zealand court sentenced the country’s former deputy police commissioner to nine months of home detention on Wednesday, after he admitted to possessing child sexual exploitation and bestiality material.

Jevon McSkimming, who until late last year was New Zealand’s second-highest ranking police officer, was arrested and charged in June with eight counts of possessing objectionable material.

The 52-year-old admitted to three charges in November, including possession of child sexual exploitation and bestiality images which were stored on his work devices.

Judge Tim Black handed down a nine-month home detention sentence in the Wellington District Court on Wednesday, ruling McSkimming would not have to register as a child sexual offender.

The judge adopted a starting point of three years’ prison, but gave deductions for McSkimming’s guilty plea, remorse and attempts at rehabilitation.

He said McSkimming was of low risk to the community.

McSkimming’s lawyer, Letizea Ord, said her client was deeply ashamed of his actions.

One of the original charges said the offences happened between July 2020 and December 2024.

McSkimming was suspended from his job on full pay in December 2024, when an internal investigation into his conduct was launched.

He was on leave for six months before his resignation in May.

New Zealand police commissioner Richard Chambers in November described the case as “disgraceful” after McSkimming’s guilty pleas.

“The outcome shows all police, no matter their rank, are accountable to the laws that apply to us all,” he said.

Master Warrant Officer Matthew Robar was arrested last week and appeared before a military court on Monday to face charges of “communicating special operational information,” breaching Canada’s Security of Information Act, and delivering “special operational information to a foreign entity or to a terrorist group.” The offences carry a potential life sentence.

The foreign entity has not been named during the proceedings but sources cited by The Globe and Mail have identified it as Ukraine.

Prosecutors allege that between 2023 and 2024, Robar communicated with an unnamed individual working for a foreign intelligence service about “unconventional activity that involved sensitive techniques.”

According to the prosecution, the project required authorization from senior commanders and Robar’s requests were repeatedly denied. The Liberal government has introduced regulations aiming to reduce Canada’s methane emissions by 75 percent from 2014 levels by 2035.

“Clear, predictable regulations give industry certainty, attract investment, and ensure Canadian energy remains competitive in a world that is moving towards lower carbon production,” Environment and Climate Change Minister Julie Dabrusin told reporters on Dec. 16.

The new rules are more lenient than what was previously announced by former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Those rules, which never came into effect, had called for a 75 percent reduction in methane emissions from 2012 levels by 2030.

The new Enhanced Methane Regulations expand on the 2018 methane regulations, giving oil and gas operators two ways to comply. They can either implement practices to prohibit methane venting and establish an inspection schedule to find and repair leaks, or they can design their own approaches to control methane emissions that meet federal standards. Dabrusin said this second pathway would require oil and gas companies to engage in “quite a bit of reporting and monitoring” of methane levels.

The federal government will also allocate $16 million in funding for technologies across Canada to reduce methane emissions. Eight projects will receive the funding, and Carleton University in Ottawa will receive further funding to develop measurement-based inventories of methane emissions in the upstream oil and gas sector.

New methane regulations have also been separately introduced for landfills, which Dabrusin said account for 17 percent of Canada’s methane emissions. Methane from food, yard waste, and paper products must now be monitored and captured in some cases, and Dabrusin said landfill regulations are expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 100 million tonnes between 2026 and 2040. Ottawa and New Brunswick have signed an agreement to speed up environmental impact assessments for major projects in the province by only requiring a single review.

The new agreement allows Ottawa and New Brunswick to implement a “one project, one review” approach for all major projects in the province of New Brunswick that require a federal and provincial assessment, the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada said in a Dec. 16 news release. The measure aims to create predictability and help catalyze investment.

“This is going to give major project proponents the clear direction they need and remove duplication without weakening the strength or integrity of our environmental impact process,” New Brunswick Premier Susan Holt said at a Dec. 16 press conference announcing the agreement.

Ottawa will rely on New Brunswick processes “where appropriate” and use other collaborative approaches, such as joint review panels, to achieve a single review, the Impact Assessment Agency said. Holt noted the review panel will consist of local, provincial, and federal agencies.

The agreement will also ensure “meaningful” consultation and collaboration with First Nations throughout the assessment process, the agency said.

The policy gives preference to bids on federal contracts of $25 million or more that use Canadian content and require federal construction and defense contracts of $25 million or more to use Canadian-made steel, aluminum, and wood in any projects requiring at least $250,000 of materials.

“Supply chain disruptions and recent economic shocks are directly impacting our industries and workers. In many industries, Canadian businesses are struggling to obtain essential materials due to tariffs that are slowing production and threatening jobs,” Procurement Minister Joël Lightbound said in French during a Dec. 16 announcement, accompanied by Liberal MPs Natilien Joseph, Bienvenu-Olivier Ntumba, and Jacques Ramsay.

“It is in this context that we must prioritize our industries, protect our workers, support our businesses, and strengthen our economy. Alberta’s highest court has determined a provincial mandate requiring aspiring lawyers to swear an oath to the King to be able to practise law is unconstitutional because it violates religious freedom.

Three Court of Appeal judges unanimously ruled on Dec. 16 the law should either be repealed or amended following a years-long legal challenge initiated by Prabjot Singh Wirring, a devout Amritdhari Sikh.

Alberta law mandates that attorneys take an oath to “bear true allegiance” to the current monarch, along with their heirs, and successors.

Wirring initiated legal action against the Alberta government and the Law Society of Alberta in June 2022, arguing the requirement violated his right to religious freedom as a Sikh. Wirring argued that he had already sworn an oath and dedicated himself to Akal Purakh, the divine entity in Sikhism, and is restricted from pledging allegiance to any other authority or ruler.

Alberta argued the oath pertained to unwritten unconstitutional principles rather than the monarch themselves, while the law society refrained from taking a position.

Wirring’s challenge was rejected by the Court of King’s Bench in October 2023. The judge sided with the province, saying the oath was merely symbolic and did not constitute a genuine oath to the monarch as a political or religious figure and therefore did not violate religious freedom. Continue…
