The House of Representatives voted on Wednesday evening to pass the Protect Children’s Innocence Act, which will make it a crime for sex-change surgery and hormonal treatments to be provided to minors.

The bill, authored by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), makes it criminal to “knowingly perform, or attempt to perform, genital or bodily mutilation on another person who is a minor” with penalties of up to ten years in prison. It further protects minors from chemical castration or hormonal treatments.

Parents who facilitate, consent to, or transport the minor to receive sex change surgeries could also be charged.

This codifies President Trump’s January “Protecting Children from Chemical and Surgical Mutilation” Executive Order, which restricts sex-change procedures for minors by cutting federal funding to institutions that practice the satanic procedures.

“It is the policy of the United States that it will not fund, sponsor, promote, assist, or support the so-called ‘transition’ of a child from one sex to another, and it will rigorously enforce all laws that prohibit or limit these destructive and life-altering procedures,” the order reads.

Wait times for Canadians to get basic family health care from its socialized health system are at levels not seen in 30 years.

Recent data from a study released by the Fraser Institute on December 9 show that, on average, Canadians must wait 28.6 weeks to receive a referral from a family doctor for serious treatment.

The extensive report, titled “Waiting Your Turn: Wait Times for Health Care in Canada,” revealed that the new wait times are “208% longer than the 9.3 week wait Canadian patients could expect in 1993.”

The trend in increased wait times for health care services comes at the same time Liberal government polices have resulted in over 23,000 Canadians dying while on waitlists for medical care, all while euthanasia is being expanded.

Not all provinces scored as badly as before, with some, such as Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island, seeing slight decreases in wait times from their previous averages. However, in all other provinces, wait times went up.

When looking at the data, the longest wait times are in New Brunswick (60.9 weeks), Prince Edward Island (49.7 weeks) and Nova Scotia (49.0 weeks). Continue…

Master Warrant Officer Matthew Robar, 43, was arrested and charged with eight offenses, including two alleged violations of Canada’s Foreign Interference and Security of Information Act, on Dec. 10 in Ottawa and was released from custody with various conditions on Dec. 15. He had previously been arrested and released on conditions in late October, with the military alleging that Robar lied about his alleged illicit actions in reports to superiors.

The Dec. 10 charges against Robar stem from alleged prohibited interactions he had with a foreign entity in order to aid Ukraine in its ongoing conflict against Russia, according to a Dec. 16 report from CBC and a Dec. 17 report from the Globe and Mail. Both reports cite unnamed sources with knowledge of the case to support their claims. Canada has provided approximately $22 billion to Ukraine to bolster Ukraine’s defence since Russia invaded the country in February 2022.

Few specific details have been made available in Robar’s case and the identity of the “foreign entity” has not been confirmed in court documents or proceedings, some of which are classified.

Appearing in military court for a custody review on Dec. 15 in Gatineau, Que., military prosecutor Major Max Reede agreed with the defence counsel that Robar’s case does not rise to the gravity of the Jeffrey Delisle case. Delisle, who had worked as a Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) intelligence officer, was sentenced to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to passing on classified information to Russia over four years in return for more than $110,000. He was released on parole in 2019 after serving a third of his sentence.

In laying out the charges against Robar, Reede alleged that he made contact with a foreign entity from a foreign intelligence service regarding a project that used “unconventional activity that involved sensitive techniques.” The project needed to be approved by Robar’s superiors to move forward, which they did not give despite Robar’s repeated requests. A winter storm that blew through the Prairie provinces is making its way to Ontario and Quebec, with up to 30 centimetres of snow expected to hit some regions, coupled with wind gusts of up to 60 kilometres per hour.

Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) issued storm warnings for several prairie regions on Dec. 17, including cities such as Edmonton, Saskatoon, Regina, and Winnipeg. Snow and high winds caused highway closures and accidents, including a widespread pileup and delay involving 80 to 100 cars near Calgary.

The agency has issued similar storm warnings for parts of northern Ontario and Quebec, as the storm heads east over the next few days.

Areas that fall under the weather warnings include much of northwestern Quebec and the Ontario municipalities of Kenora, Thunder Bay, Sault Ste. Marie, Timmons, Sudbury, and North Bay.

Snowfall accumulation in north-central Ontario is expected to be between 15 and 30 centimetres, according to the weather warning.

“Northerly winds gusting 50 to 60 km/h will result in blowing snow beginning this morning,” ECCC said in a Dec. 18 weather advisory. The agency noted that the heavy snow and strong winds may lead to zero visibility in some areas. Continue…

B.C. Premier David Eby says Ottawa must increase its investments in provincial infrastructure improvements, citing the urgent need for upgrades to the flood-ravaged Highway 1 that runs through the Fraser Valley.

Major flooding last week led to the shutdown of large portions of Highway 1, a critical artery for truckers travelling to B.C. ports and commuters travelling into the Lower Mainland.

Eby said he met with the federal government’s Major Projects Office (MPO) Dec. 17 and planned to voice his concerns during a Dec. 18 virtual first ministers meeting with Prime Minister Mark Carney.

“This is our Highway 1. This is a major goods corridor for the entire country,” Eby said. “If they have $60 billion to take an hour off of the train ride between Montreal and Ottawa, then I am sure we can reach agreement on moving goods and people around British Columbia without difficulty.”

Eby was referring to a proposed 1,000 kilometre high-speed rail network linking Toronto to Quebec City that is slated to begin construction in 2029 and is listed as project under consideration for fast-tracking with the MPO. The first section to be built will span 200 kilometres from Ottawa to Montreal, according to Transport Minister Steven MacKinnon. The total cost of the project has been estimated at between $60 billion and $90 billion.

Eby said further development is needed along Highway 1 to prevent future flooding, adding that a failure to do so could disrupt trade across the country. He cited a recent decision made by the Saskatchewan potash company Nutrien to transport its potash through Washington state rather than British Columbia as an example. Continue…

Ontario police are alerting drivers to be cautious after a series of attempted thefts targeting the same model of pickup truck.

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) said it is searching for suspects following three incidents involving Toyota Tundra trucks in the Town of Orangeville that occurred early in the morning on Dec. 16.

Police responded to reports of “suspicious activity” and “vehicle damage” targeting Toyota Tundras between 1 a.m. and 3:30 a.m., according to a Dec. 16 news release.

“Two vehicles were damaged during attempted thefts, with windows smashed and dashboards taken apart,” the release said.

Police said they observed suspects attempting to break into another Toyota Tundra, but were not successful. Investigators believe the suspects were attempting to steal the vehicles.

OPP is asking for the public’s help to find the suspects, who have been described as wearing dark clothing with hoods and face coverings. Continue…''

Top U.S. trade negotiator Jamieson Greer said Canada must change a number of its policies including in the dairy sector if it wants the United States to commit to a long-term renewal of the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA).

In a portion of his closed-door remarks to members of Congress that were released to the public Dec. 17, Greer said that a “rubberstamp” of USMCA at next year’s July 1 joint review is not in the American “national interest” unless Canada changes its dairy supply management system, digital streaming rules, and provincial import bans on U.S. alcohol.

Greer also outlined U.S. requests that Mexico do more to enforce labour standards, give U.S. energy firms more access to bid on contracts instead of favouring state-run firms, and stop the flow of Chinese-made products from entering the United States.

Greer said the trade deal has grown American exports to Mexico and Canada by 56 percent since 2020 but that significant sticking points remain from Washington’s perspective.

“The USMCA has been successful to a certain degree,” Greer said in remarks released Dec. 17. “But at the same time, it is clear that we have not achieved all of our goals with respect to strengthening U.S. manufacturing capacity and creating good jobs, and nearly all stakeholders advocate improvements.” Continue…

Ottawa and Ontario have signed a cooperation agreement aiming to speed up approval timelines and reduce regulatory burden on major projects, including the road to the Ring of Fire region in northern Ontario.

The agreement introduces a “one project, one review” approach to major projects in Ontario, meant to streamline the environmental impact assessment process for major projects that require both a federal and provincial assessment, Prime Minister Mark Carney said at a Dec. 18 press conference alongside Ontario Premier Doug Ford.

“By working together, we’ll be providing greater certainty to builders so we can turbocharge the construction of the infrastructure Ontario and Canada needs to build our economy strong,” Carney said, adding that the new approach will aim to reduce duplication in the assessment phase to allow projects to be built faster.

When a project is primarily regulated by Ontario, Ottawa will rely on the provincial environmental assessment, while if a project falls under federal jurisdiction, the federal assessment process will be used. In cases where there are shared responsibilities, the two governments will use a coordinated approach, Carney said.

The Prime Minister’s Office said in a Dec. 18 news release that the agreement will ensure the federal and provincial governments’ responsibilities to the environment and the protection of indigenous rights are upheld.

Ford called the announcement “transformational,” saying projects previously required overlapping provincial and federal review will now only require one review. He said this will bring more certainty to investors and project proponents. Continue…
