Novo Nordisk shares in Europe jumped the most in nearly two years after the U.S. FDA approved the Wegovy pill, a once-daily 25 mg oral semaglutide, for long-term weight loss, weight maintenance, and reduction of major adverse cardiovascular events. The approval marks a much-needed win for the struggling Danish pharmaceutical company, which has been hit by market share losses to GLP-1 knockoffs.

"The Wegovy pill is the first oral glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist therapy approved for weight management," Novo wrote in a press release earlier on Tuesday.

Approval was based on the Oasis 4 trial, which showed patients taking the daily pill lost an average of 16.6% of body weight. The new pill will be available in the U.S. in early January and will be approved for long-term weight loss and weight maintenance.

BMO Capital Markets analyst Evan David Seigerman told clients the FDA approval gives the company a “much-needed win,” after the “recent challenges maintaining incretin market share dominance."

Seigerman said that Novo will “benefit from first-mover advantage, capturing patients with a preference for convenience and comfort provided by an oral dosing regimen." He noted that Eli Lilly’s rival pill, orforglipron, is "just around the corner."

Novo shares in Copenhagen jumped more than 7%, the largest intra-day gain since March 2024. This surge of optimism in the stock comes as market-share losses have pressured it down 48% year to date.

The opening of the second hub reporting directly to NATO was confirmed by NATO’s deputy commander for support to Ukraine, General Mike Keller, who also informed press that in the past year, Ukraine received around 220,000 tons of military aid – approximately 9,000 trucks, 1,800 railway cars, and some 500 aircraft carrying weapons and military equipment.

“This is actually quite positive news, considering the independence of arms supplies to Ukraine from a single logistics center in Poland. This concerns urgently needed air defense assets, and above all, missiles, ammunition, etc.,” Defense Express experts assessed.

The current hub in Poland is located approximately 80 kilometers from the Polish-Ukrainian border. From there, goods, previously subjected to security checks, including explosives and counterintelligence equipment, are transported to the Ukrainian border.

Equipment such as helmets and combat vests are also in short supply. Some training activities have had to be canceled because of the shortage, the outlet added.

The deaths of the US citizens, identified as Brian Zacherl and Ty Wingate, has been confirmed by their relatives on social media, the outlet said in an article on Monday.

They were apparently members of the International Legion, which is subordinate to the Ukrainian military intelligence (HUR), it added.

Zacherl’s nephew wrote in a post on Facebook on December 5 that he had been “killed in battle a couple of days ago,” the article read. The mercenary’s wife and two children remained in Kiev, “waiting for conditions to allow the recovery of his body from the battlefield,” according to the nephew.

The mercenary’s father, Brian Zacherl Senior, is a former US marine who also worked for the CIA between 2013 to 2018, RIA Novosti reported after studying his accounts on social media.

After years of what the couple describes as unfair electricity pricing, obscure policies, and energy funding structures that favour government-aligned or Indigenous-preferred projects, the province is now using Crown land leases to impose ultimatums on the powerhouse that, if followed, would make continued operation nearly impossible.

Land rights are also at stake. The family has poured everything they have left into the plant — including more than a million dollars in funding — yet they say they were never given the promised path to purchase the land beneath it. Instead, they remain trapped under temporary licences that leave the historic facility vulnerable to government seizure.

The situation offers insight into why other private energy producers such as the Wrights have already gone out of business and how Crown-owned BC Hydro continues to strengthen its monopoly, acting as both a competitor and the gatekeeper that controls grid access and power purchasing.

Just before the plant received its latest 'comply-or-else' directive from the province, I travelled to Sandon to show you from the ground what’s at stake if this living piece of Canadian history is wiped out under the NDP.

Since then, Hal and Vida have told me they are still doing everything they can to save their plant and push for fairness in the energy market, including pleading their case to elected officials. While their pleas appear to have fallen on deaf ears with both the B.C. NDP and B.C. Conservatives, the Wrights say their local Conservative MP, Scott Anderson, has responded and is currently looking at ways to help move forward on a better path.

According to ESDC officials, the digital IDs can be shared online or in-person “when needed, making it easy for departments, organizations, and businesses to validate their information.”

The government argued that since many Canadians already use “digital credentials without realizing it,” such as a digital ticket “stored on our mobile device instead of using a printed ticket,” this would be the same for IDs such as licenses.
