Zelensky's Meeting With US Envoy Cancelled After No Real Progress In 5-Hour Moscow Talks

The Russian-US negotiations on the Ukraine conflict concluded in the Kremlin after some five hours of intense negotiations, which had reportedly gone late into the night. Russian presidential aide Yury Ushakov indicated the US side of Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner presented four more documents concerning the peace settlement during the Kremlin talks; however, a sticking point remains territory.

"Some American proposals are acceptable to Russia, while others are not," the aide stated bluntly. Crucially he at one point responded to a question of whether peace had become closer or further following these talks, to which Ushakov responded, "Definitely not further."

"Territorial issues were discussed specifically, without which we do not see a resolution of the crisis," Ushakov told reporters immediately after the meeting. "Of course, the enormous prospects for future economic co-operation between the two countries were also discussed."

This latter point of cooperation between the US and Russia has "vast potential" - Ushakov said, suggesting the Kremlin doesn't see the peace deal as where it wants it to be in terms of territorial settlement. The US-backed draft peace plan offers that Crimea, Luhansk and Donetsk would be recognized "as de facto Russian, including by the United States." However, Ukraine and other countries would not need to recognize Russian control by law, but Moscow legally sees them as part of the Russian Federation after the wartime 'popular referendums' held in the fall of 2022.

The draft also calls to freeze the front lines of fighting where they are in the southern oblasts of Kherson and Zaporizhzia, with Russia having relinquish other areas such as the Kharkiv and Sumy regions in the northeast, as well the Mykolaiv region in the south. Overall the lengthy session was deemed by the Russian side as "productive" - with Ushakov also saying "We discussed the substance, not specific wording and solutions. The parties see enormous potential for cooperation."

"As for a possible meeting at the presidential level, that will depend on the progress we’re able to make through the persistent work carried out by our aides and representatives," Ushakov said. And more on US-Russia relations: "But this time, we emphasized that if we genuinely want to work together — and there are enormous opportunities — then it’s time to show some real commitment," the Kremlin official said.

The planned operation reportedly intends to deploy some 100 federal agents to focus on residents of Somali descent, including both ‘documented’ immigrants and those with final deportation orders.

ICE "Strike Teams" Deployed To Minneapolis After Bombshell Somali Welfare-Fraud Report Linked To Overseas Terror

A federal judge Tuesday night ordered the Trump administration to cease its campaign of arresting immigrants in Washington, D.C. without a warrant or probable cause of a flight risk, warning that the White House’s mistreatment of immigrants could put Americans overseas at risk.

U.S. District Judge Beryl Howell ruled that, while federal agents may have the authority to make warrantless immigration arrests, the way that authority has been used on the immigrant community in Washington was likely unlawful.

“Defendants are preliminarily enjoined from enforcing their policy of conducting warrantless civil immigration arrests without probable cause to believe that the arrestee is likely to escape before an administrative warrant can be obtained,” Howell wrote in the 88-page opinion.

She further certified a class, which she referred to as the “Unassisted Escape Risk Class,” that includes all individuals who, since President Donald Trump’s Aug. 11 “crime emergency,” have been or will be arrested without a warrant and without a pre-arrest, individualized assessment of probable cause.

“And I think that’s what’s needed, because, there’s obviously going to be a lot of different viewpoints, you heard what the president said. But, I think, ultimately it’s up to those committees to find out exactly what happened. And if it was a war crime, to make sure we hold people accountable,” he added.

Multiple lawmakers have pushed the Trump administration for information after The Washington Post and CNN reported late last week that the U.S. carried out an additional strike on the alleged drug-smuggling boat in September, killing two survivors of the initial strike.

French Mayor Sentenced to Prison over Gay Sex Tape Blackmail Scheme Against His Deputy

A French mayor was sentenced to four years in prison this week after being found guilty of blackmailing a political rival with a surreptitiously filmed sex tape featuring homosexual acts with a male prostitute.

Gaël Perdriau, a member of the establishment Les Républicains party, who has served as the mayor of the French city of Saint-Etienne since 2014, was found guilty of blackmail, criminal conspiracy, and misuse of public funds on Monday, resulting in a four year prison sentence and a year on probation, a fine of €50,000, in addition to an immediate five year ban on holding public office, Le Monde reported.

The mayor was accused of having ordered his political subordinates to film a sex tape of his former deputy, Gilles Artigues, in a hotel with a male prostitute in 2015 to ensure his fealty, pledging to release the tape should Artigues seek to challenge him.

Despite Perdriau maintaining his innocence, and vowing to appeal the conviction, Artigues revealed to the court an audio recording in which the mayor was heard warning him that he had a “USB stick” with the compromising images from the sex tape and threatened to release them publicly.

Artigues said that the threats left him little more than a puppet for the mayor and that he had even considered suicide.

In addition to Perdriau, the court also convicted his former chief of staff, Pierre Gauttieri, to two years in prison, and fellow co-conspirators, Samy Kefi-Jérôme and Gilles Rossary-Lenglet, to three years behind bars and a fine of €40,000, Le Figaro reported.

The prosecutor in the case alleged that Gauttieri had run “a mafia-like organization whose top of the pyramid is located in the town hall.”

For his part, Perdriau argued that he never actually had possession of the sex tape and that there were no written records of him instructing the others to film Artigues. In response to the audio tape, his defence team claimed that it merely represented a “threat, but not blackmail”.

In her ruling, Judge Brigitte Verney said: “The court took into account the extreme seriousness of the acts committed, the level of the offences, the conspiracy, and found nothing in the investigation or the proceedings to diminish the extreme gravity of the facts. You possessed the valuable status of an elected official and, as such, a duty of exemplary conduct, dignity, and representation.”

She went on to accuse the mayor of having been the only party involved to have “shown a complete lack of change in his narrative, acknowledgment of the facts, and consideration for the civil parties. He is the only one to deny the obvious. The only one who has not resigned from his elected positions. The only one who can therefore reoffend. He must accept this defence strategy, and it must be taken into account.”

Illegal Immigrant Cop Previously Nabbed By ICE Returns To Work For Illinois Police Department

An illegal immigrant cop who was arrested by federal authorities in October and later released has since been brought back onto the force.

The Hanover Police Department announced Tuesday that it has brought Radule Bojovic, an illegal immigrant from Montenegro, back on as an officer following his release from Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention in October. Bojovic overstayed a B2 tourist visa that required him to leave the United States on March 31, 2015, the Department of Homeland Security said at the time of his arrest.

An immigration judge granted a $2,500 immigration bond just two weeks after he was picked up by Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Bojovic returned to work Monday and will receive a paycheck for the time he missed while he was detained, the department said in a statement Tuesday.

“Given that his bond was not contested and he remains authorized to work by the federal government, the Hanover Police Department determined that he may return to work,” the department said.

“His first shift back since his detention took place yesterday. The Village and Hanover Park will provide Officer Bojovic back pay for the time he was on leave,” they added.

Despite his immigration status, Bojovic was hired in January because he had a federal work permit and passed all background checks, the department said.

Bojovic was eligible to receive a starting salary of $78,955.70 when he was hired, according to the Department of Homeland Security. His 2025 earnings were $205,707, including $9,276 for FICA/Medicare taxes.

Also speaking at the ceremony, Israel’s ambassador to Germany, Ron Prosor, noted that this year marked 60 years of diplomatic relations between the countries.

“Our partnership is strategic, and Germany is Israel’s most important ally in Europe. Today, we mark another milestone in this relationship. Who could have imagined that only 80 years after the liberation of Auschwitz, the Jewish state, through the technologies it develops, would help defend not only Germany but all of Europe. My family, who fled Germany on the eve of the Holocaust, could never have foreseen this,” Prosor said.

Australia’s ‘unprecedented’ antisemitic attacks a ‘wake-up call,’ Jewish leaders say

As Executive Council of Australian Jewry reports over 1,600 incidents during the past year, Jewish community leaders sound alarm on worldwide trend

Jewish communities around the world sounded the alarm on Wednesday after a new report said the number of antisemitic incidents in Australia remained at “unprecedentedly high levels” during the past year.

A report published Tuesday by the Executive Council of Australian Jewry (ECAJ) said the country saw 1,654 incidents during the 12-month period from October 1, 2024, to September 30, 2025 — about five times the annual average recorded in the decade prior to the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack.

That was less, however, than the 2,062 incidents recorded a year earlier, in the year immediately following the attack, ECAJ noted, although the impact of the attacks on the community remained high.

Following the report, members of the J7 Large Communities’ Task Force Against Antisemitism said the spike reflects a global pattern threatening other Jewish communities around the world.

J7 is a partnership created by the Anti-Defamation League between Jewish organizations from the seven countries with the largest Jewish populations outside of Israel: Argentina, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, the United Kingdom and the United States.

“What is happening in Australia is not an exception; it should be a wake-up call to communities worldwide,” said ADL senior vice president for International Affairs Marina Rosenberg in a statement. “Across North America, Europe and Latin America, Jewish communities are reporting the same pattern of unprecedented harassment, threats and incitement. When synagogues can be firebombed in Melbourne, and Jews threatened and attacked in New York, London, Paris, Berlin, Buenos Aires and Toronto, this is a threat not only to Jewish safety but to democratic stability itself.”

J7 leaders convened on Wednesday in Sydney for strategic consultations and to develop coordinated responses to elevated threat levels.

A tidal wave of hate

Australia’s 120,000-strong Jewish community has been among the hardest hit in the world since the October 7 Hamas attack and the subsequent war set off a tidal wave of antisemitism across the globe.

After the community saw a record number of attacks in 2023-2024, an arson attack in December on Melbourne’s Adass Israel Synagogue was seen by many as a turning point, and Jews have been frustrated by what they say has been the government’s failure to rein in attacks and violent rhetoric.

Over the past year, Jews in Australia have seen synagogues, schools and homes firebombed, two nurses threatening to kill Jewish patients in their hospital, and the discovery of a trailer filled with explosives said to have been intended to cause a mass-casualty event at a Sydney synagogue.

Netanyahu said to back recognition of illegal farming outposts in West Bank

PM called for ‘educational tools’ to rehabilitate Jewish youth involved in settler violence, according to document reportedly summarizing high-level meeting on attacks on Palestinians

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu supports recognizing illegal farming outposts in the West Bank, some of which are home to extremist settlers who have been carrying out attacks on neighboring Palestinians, the Ynet news site reported Wednesday.

The prime minister also called for educational measures to reduce violence perpetrated by so-called hilltop youth, according to a document obtained by the Ynet news site, which summarized a high-level security discussion last month on addressing settler violence.

The discussion by the forum, which was said to include Defense Minister Israel Katz and the chief of the IDF Central Command, Maj. Gen. Avi Bluth, came as settler violence spiked across the West Bank.

Ynet reported that a section of the document titled “Prime Minister’s Summary” called the illegal farms “a positive response that is necessary in order to safeguard Area C,” the part of the West Bank under full Israeli control, and said they “act as a response to Palestinian activity in the area.”

Settler leaders claim that Palestinians are illegally expanding their villages in Area C, while Palestinians note that Israel grants building permits in the territory almost exclusively to Israeli settlers.

Rights groups also argue that settlers have been using the farming outposts to take over additional land, while violently intimidating neighboring Palestinians. Hundreds of Bedouin families have fled their homes due to repeated attacks.

Over the past two years, Palestinian villages in Area C have been targeted in an increasing number of attacks by extremist settlers, which go unpunished in the vast majority of cases.

Nonetheless, Ynet reported that Netanyahu is pushing for the farming outposts to be legalized. There is no comment from the Prime Minister’s Office.

While successive governments have provided security and funding to West Bank outposts, they were built without the necessary permits, making them illegal under Israeli law.

Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, who also oversees civilian affairs in the West Bank, and Settlements and National Projects Minister Orit Strock — both from the Religious Zionism party — have directed tens of millions of shekels to the farms, according to Ynet. The funds have apparently gone to security measures and mobile dwelling structures.

Ynet reported that, according to security officials, there are approximately 1,000 hilltop youths, among them 300 who are considered violent. At the center of that group, the officials said, is a hard core of 70 activists.

According to the document, Netanyahu called for combating the violence through education.

Netanyahu’s office said that the prime minister had delayed what was also expected to be a recorded statement due to unspecified “scheduling constraints.” Bennett and Opposition leader Yair Lapid had planned to issue their statements in response to Netanyahu’s.

Bennett, a former prime minister who is polling as Netanyahu’s prime rival ahead of next year’s general elections, lambasted the proposed law and accused Netanyahu of deceiving the public and abandoning those who shoulder the burden of military service. Yesh Atid leader Lapid, in his brief video statement, accused Netanyahu of running away from indefensible legislation, and betraying Israel’s soldiers.

According to Bennett, Israelis fought like “lions” after October 7 with no regard to political or religious affiliation, and now that the war in Gaza is over, the IDF is facing a manpower shortage of 20,000 soldiers.

“There are only two options: to draft our Haredi brothers so that they shoulder their share, or to impose on our reservists another 120 reserve days every year on a permanent basis, destroying their professional and family future,” Bennett said — claiming that there are currently “100,000 young Haredi men obligated to enlist who can be trained within five months to the level required for the mission.”

“It is possible, and the IDF is capable of it, but it needs government backing. Yet the government, instead of acting to draft the Haredim, is doing exactly the opposite! These days, it is advancing a law that will eliminate any chance of drafting Haredim,” Bennett charged.

For the past year, the Haredi leadership has been pushing for the passage of a law that would largely keep its constituency out of the IDF, after the High Court ruled that decades-long blanket exemptions from army duty informally afforded to full-time Haredi yeshiva students were illegal.

The Israel lobby is melting down before our eyes

The American Jewish community is in open crisis over its support for Israel after two years of genocide in Gaza. A key issue in this crisis is a topic once considered too taboo to criticize: the Israel lobby.

Last month, a top staffer at the Jewish organization J Street who had worked for Obama and Harris explained that Congress’s tradition of backing Israel “no matter what” was imposed by a “well-funded group of… Jews.”

“A small, organized and well-funded group of American Jews treated the issue as a threshold question in elections, and most candidates decided it wasn’t worth antagonizing them,” Ilan Goldenberg wrote.

Not long ago, such attacks on the Israel lobby (including my own) were dismissed as antisemitic conspiracy theories. Now, a leading Jewish organization publishes them.

That’s because the American Jewish community is today in open crisis over its historic support for Israel. Prominent Jews are finally attacking the lobby, a political structure created 60 years ago by leading Jewish groups to make sure there was no daylight between the Israeli and U.S. governments.

The crisis was catalyzed by the insurgent victory of New York Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani, who broke a rule of American politics. You can’t be an anti-Zionist and be taken seriously in American politics.

The Israel lobby spent tens of millions to defeat Mamdani, led by Bill Ackman and Mike Bloomberg, yet Mamdani still beat Andrew Cuomo twice. After the general election last month, the Jewish establishment spoke with fearful force. Mamdani’s election is “grim” and “ominous,” the Conference of Presidents said.

“Zohran Mamdani’s elevation to Gracie Mansion reminds us that antisemitism remains a clear and present danger.”

The ADL announced a “Mamdani-tracker” on the idea that Mamdani will promote antisemitic violence—a claim based on Mamdani’s criticisms of Israel. “Mamdani has promoted antisemitic narratives… and demonstrated intense animosity toward the Jewish state that is counter to the views of the overwhelming majority of Jewish New Yorkers.”

If the lobby thought it was knocking Mamdani down, it failed. Two weeks after the election, Mamdani went to the White House and spoke of Israeli “genocide,” and Trump did nothing to contradict him. It’s about time we heard that word in the White House.

Mamdani’s courage set off the new Israel-critical discourse, but it has been enabled by a broader social movement. Young Americans are turning against Israel over its anti-Palestinian policies of genocide and apartheid.

Knesset hears harrowing new testimony of alleged ritual sexual abuse; survivors demand action

The testimonies describe patterns of abuse that survivors say were organized, repeated, ideologically framed, and allegedly carried out by groups of adults.

A series of profoundly distressing testimonies was delivered at the Knesset on Tuesday, as women described years of what they say were ritualized, organized sexual assaults they endured as children, including allegations of group rape, sadistic violence, and abuse that, in one case, was said to have occurred weekly in the office of a former MK.

The hearing, held jointly by the Committee for the Advancement of the Status of Women and the Special Committee on Youth, renewed urgent calls by lawmakers for law enforcement authorities to fully investigate the growing number of such accounts.

The testimonies, many of which have emerged publicly over the past several months, describe patterns of abuse that survivors say were organized, repeated, ideologically framed, and allegedly carried out by groups of adults, sometimes including figures in positions of authority.

Though the accounts differ, they share recurring motifs: multiple perpetrators, use of drugs or intoxicants, coercive “ceremonies,” and violence far beyond conventional patterns of childhood sexual abuse.

The Knesset Research and Information Center recently noted that Israel has no legal definition for “ritual abuse,” creating profound gaps in detection, data collection, and prosecution, and leaving the state with almost no reliable information on the scope of the phenomenon.

During the hearing on Tuesday, survivor Hadar Feldman recounted that from age seven to 21, she was repeatedly sold and raped by groups of men, often as part of what she described as cult-like ceremonies. She told MKs that beginning at age eight-and-a-half, her father brought her once a week to a room inside the Knesset where, she said, a then-serving MK abused her after giving her drinks that caused her to lose consciousness.

“He did whatever he wanted to me, every week, for a year and a half,” she testified, adding that the former MK is no longer alive.

“To hear that this place was used for such a thing is beyond comprehension,” Democratic MK Naama Lazimi responded.

Another survivor, identified as ‘S,’ described being kidnapped repeatedly as a child: “They tied me upside down. They electrocuted my intimate organs. They forced me to watch the murder of small babies. They made me dig my own grave. They are here among us.”

She said she gave the police detailed testimony, including names, places, and descriptions, but does not feel her account has been taken seriously.

A third woman, referred to as ‘M’ and whose testimony was read aloud, said she endured abuse by family members, a doctor, a psychiatrist, and rabbis throughout her childhood. She described what she called a “ritual assault” suffered while she was in advanced pregnancy and said she was forced to commit “horrific acts” to save her unborn child.

“They traded me. They traded my body,” she wrote, urging the state to ensure proper psychological and economic support for survivors.

Israeli teen indicted for preparing explosives in ISIS-linked terror plot

Investigators declared that the 18-year-old had begun preparing explosives and intended to target soldiers by detonating a device “under a bus in Beer-Sheva.”

Israeli security forces arrested an 18-year-old Negev resident suspected of plotting an ISIS-inspired suicide attack at a Beer-Sheva bus station, authorities said Wednesday.

The suspect was detained in November during a joint operation by the Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) and Israeli Police.

According to the joint statement, the suspect’s interrogation revealed deep involvement with Islamic State ideology and online extremist content.

Investigators said he had begun preparing explosives and intended to target soldiers by detonating a device “under a bus in Beersheba.”

Authorities added that the suspect had collected documents “dealing with training on how to prepare explosives,” which were allegedly intended to support his plans for a terrorist attack.

Security officials described the case as a major prevention. “This is a significant foiling, shedding light on the influence of the ISIS terrorist organization in Israel, which inspired murderous attacks in the past,” the Shin Bet and police said.

Over 300 rabbis, Jewish leaders call for removal of UN official who denied October 7 rapes

The letter’s signatories include several leading rabbis as well as former antisemitism envoy Deborah Lipstadt.

Over 300 Jewish leaders, including women’s rights advocates and rabbis, urged the United Nations on Tuesday to remove Reem Alsalem, the UN rapporteur on violence against women and girls, for denying that rape occurred during Hamas’ October 7, 2023, attack on Israel.

The letter, which was addressed to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, came two weeks after Alsalem claimed in a post on X that “No independent investigation found that rape took place on the 7th of October.”

In the letter, its signatories express their “horror and outrage” at Alsalem’s rhetoric, and cite two UN reports from March 2024 and July 2025 that concluded that there were “reasonable grounds” to believe that sexual violence had taken place during the attacks in "multiple locations, including rape and gang rape.”

The petition was organized by Amy Elman, a professor at Kalamazoo College who has authored books on antisemitism and state responses to sexual violence, and Rafael Medoff, the director of the David S. Wyman Institute for Holocaust Studies. It was shared with the Jewish Telegraphic Agency soon after being sent to Guterres.

“The targeted sexual abuse of Israelis by Hamas and its supporters is one weapon in the arsenal of those seeking Israel’s obliteration,” Elman said in a statement. “It’s outrageous that deniers such as Reem Alsalem are aiding and abetting the sexual violence by claiming it never happened. These apologists should be ashamed of themselves.”

The letter’s signatories include Deborah Lipstadt, the former antisemitism envoy; Judith Rosenbaum, the head of the Jewish Women’s Archives; Rabbi Irving Greenberg, the former chairman of the US Holocaust Memorial Museum; Rabbi Deborah Waxman, the president of Reconstructing Judaism; and Hebrew College president Rabbi Sharon Cohen Anisfeld.

Dispute over whether sexual violence took place as Hamas murdered about 1,200 people in Israel on October 7 has solidified as a point of sustained interest for some of Israel’s staunchest critics who allege that Israel and its supporters are using claims of rape as propaganda.

Even the United Nations, frequently maligned by Israel and its supporters over its record toward Israel, has drawn allegations of complicity in the propaganda campaign from pro-Palestinian voices — though the UN rapporteur on Palestinian rights, Francesca Albanese, who has faced her own calls for dismissal from the Trump administration, has also publicly questioned the claims.

In addition to the UN reports, independent reporting and research by an Israeli nonprofit have validated claims of sexual violence on October 7.

In the X exchange that spurred the new letter, Alsalem was arguing with another user about the Israeli government’s prosecution of soldiers accused of abusing a Palestinian detainee.

A day later, Alsalem posted a link to a Substack podcast from October where she criticized the credibility of the March 2024 UN report and said she had sought contact with the Israeli government to confirm its findings but had not received a response.
