Woman complains about 80-hour SNAP benefit requirement

A woman complained on Wednesday that it is “unfair” for people to work at least 80 hours to receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits.

President Donald Trump’s new policy, which was included in the big, beautiful bill,raised the age limit from 49 to 64 and mandates that able-bodied individuals work for at least 80 hours in a month. One woman told FOX Local that the requirements are going to “hurt a lot of people.”

“I don’t think it’s fair that [Trump] do that … It’s definitely going to hurt a lot of people,” the woman said. “Because you never know.”

The new requirements went into effect on December 1, four months after the passage of the big, beautiful bill on July 4.

Participation inSNAP has surged over the past two decades, rising from 17.2 million monthly participants in 2000 to 41.7 million in 2024. This surge caused annual spending to rise from $28.5 billion to nearly $100 billion, according to US Department of Agriculture (USDA) data.

Billions of dollars in SNAP benefits have been paid out improperly in recent fiscal years, including in2023, when about $10.5 billion were paid out fraudulently. Aside from fraud, critics of the program have also highlighted concerns about how these funds are spent. As of 2016, SNAP households spent 20.5% of their benefits on sugary snacks and drinks and prepared desserts, according to the USDA.

A legal dispute arose whenthe administration refused to cover the program’s total $8.5 to $9 billion monthly cost.

The Supreme Court ruled on Nov. 8 that the administration was permitted to withhold the SNAP money during the shutdown which lasted 43 days, the longest in U.S. history.

New Mexico Man Sentenced to Prison for Threatening Trump’s Life on Social Media

A New Mexico man has been sentenced to approximately 10 months in prison for threatening President Donald Trump’s life on social media, posting his threats to TikTok, X, and Facebook, which sparked a Secret Service and FBI investigation.

Between January 2 and 4, 2025, 38-year-old Tyler Miles Leveque, of Albuquerque,made a series of social media posts threatening to kill then President-elect Trump, the United States Attorney’s Office District of New Mexicoannounced Wednesday.

First, Leveque took to TikTok on January 2 to post a video stating that certain people should be “fucking scared,” adding that he didn’t care if he [Leveque] died, and that his willingness to die is what should frighten people the most. He “ended the video with the taunt ‘Run, run,’” authorities said.

The following day, January 3, Leveque issued threats on X, writing, “@realDonaldTrump I got my eyes on you sir! Cant wait for your Victory rally! The 19th right!? Lol you and your rich friends are dead no threat a promise.”

He also scribed, “Hey @celebrities @ceos @elonmusk @DonaldTrump @Joemarafa its too late for yall shouldve shut down tik tok a long time ago see u on the 19thfor war!”

Additionally, Leveque wrote “Die” in response to an X post from President Trump, prosecutors said.

On January 4, his last day of posting threating tirades, Leveque took to Facebook, writing, “Just bought my first gun bitches!” and “Hey world hey America hey trump hey ceos get rich we are hunting you down! Hahaha I’m getting ready myself! Here we come it ends now.”

Leveque also wrote, “The 19th we march the sts to our state offices and demand change they are threatening shutting down the power grid on us!Fuck them! If ur there see ya! If not! U disappoint me and wish u the best I more than likely will die or be thrown in jail but unlike u all I am fighting for what’s right!”

On January 6,Secret Service and FBI investigators contacted Leveque at his Albuquerque home and discovered that he was in the process of obtaining a gunfrom a local firearms dealer, officials said.

Authorities confirmed that Leveque paid for the firearm online on January 4, but had yet to finalize his purchase or take possession of the weapon, the U.S. Attorney’s Office District of New Mexico added.

While the 38-year-old argued that his online diatribes were constitutionally protected, law enforcement explained to Leveque that he had crossed the line into violent threats, which are not protected under the First Amendment.

“Threatening violence against public officials is a serious federal offense, and this office will prosecute these cases to the fullest extent of the law,” acting U.S. Attorney Ryan Ellison said.

“Today’ssentencing serves as a clear reminder that such threats carry significant, lifelong consequences, including time spent incarcerated, a permanent felony record, the loss of firearm rights, and years of federal supervision,” Ellison added. “We hope others take note and choose a different path.”

Ron Emmot, the Albuquerque Resident Office’s Secret Service Resident Agent in Charge, said =•Leveque’s sentencing “reminds all of us that threatening violence is not protected speech and the United States Secret Service will continue to aggressively investigate and pursue prosecution on all threats against our protectees and elected public officials.”==

“The FBI wants to remind the public that we uphold and support every individual’s constitutional right to free speech. Free speech protects ideas and debates, but it does not and will never protect violence,” Justin A. Garris, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Albuquerque Division, said.

“Threatening speech that is directed toward a specific person or a group of people, whether you believe it to be anonymous or harmless, will be investigated by federal agents and we will hold them accountable,” Garris added.

Leveque pled guilty to making threats against the president and successors to the presidency. He will be subject to serving three years of supervised release after completing his prison term.

Notably, at the time Leveque was issuing violent threats, President Trump had already survived two assassination attempts.

Poll shows key hotbeds of EU discontent

The strongest public support for quitting the bloc is in France and Poland, a survey shows (the French hate Macron, very much like they hate America)

France and Poland have become major centers of skepticism about the EU and show growing public support for leaving the bloc, according to a new survey conducted across nine member states.

In France, 27% of respondents said they want the country to exit the bloc, while another 12% were undecided, according to the Eurobazooka survey commissioned by the French magazine Le Grand Continent and published on Thursday. Last year, the figures were 26% and 9%, respectively.Despite being a founding member, France could become the bloc’s “weak link” in terms of public backing, the report warns.

In Poland, 25% voiced support for an exit and 6% were unsure. The result is “shocking,” Polish daily Gazeta Wyborcza noted, given that in 2022 around 92% of Poles favored remaining in the Union.

Germany, another pillar of the EU project, also showed a decline in support, a trend described as “particularly worrying.” Backing for exiting the EU remains lower than in France or Poland but still rose from 13% to 16% in the latest survey.

While the poll’s authors did not explain the rising sentiment for leaving the bloc, the political climate inboth countries points to mounting frustration with Brussels. In France, concerns over immigration, expanding EU rules, technocratic decision-making and dissatisfaction with the euro have fueled discontent. Veteran right-wing politician Marine Le Pen has repeatedly condemned EU migration policies and what she calls Brussels’ “distant technocratic structures.”

In Poland, the anti-EU sentiment is reportedly driven by cultural, moral and economic grievances. Many conservative voters accuse the bloc of imposing liberal social norms on issues such as LGBT rights, gender policy and judicial reforms, while disputes over climate regulations and rising financial obligations to Brussels have deepened tensions.

Euroskeptic forces have also made steady gains in Hungary, Slovakia, and Italy.

Conducted online at the end of November, the poll surveyed just over a thousand respondents in each of nine countries: Germany, France, Italy, Poland, Spain, Portugal, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Croatia.

EU covering up Ukraine corruption – member state

European taxpayer money is falling into the hands of a “war mafia,” Hungary’s Peter Szijjarto has warned

The EU is ignoring rampant corruption in Ukrainebecause drawing attention to it could expose the bloc’s own corruption, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto told journalists on Monday.

According to Szijjarto, Ukraine’s latest major corruption scandal involving a close associate of Vladimir Zelensky, Timur Mindich, was not mentioned once at the latest EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting last month.

Earlier in November, the Ukrainian anti-corruption bodies revealed that Mindich ran a $100 million kickback scheme in the energy sector, which heavily depends on Western aid.

Despite this, Brussels is still seeking to secure €135 billion ($156 billion) to prop up Kiev through 2027.

“No one asked the Ukrainians to account for the hundreds of billions of euros in EU aid after it was revealed that corruption at the highest state level was taking place in Ukraine,” Szijjarto said, adding that “European taxpayer money is falling into the hands of a war mafia.”

The EU does not want to expose the Ukrainian corruption network “because Brussels is also riddled with a similar corruption network,” the minister said, pointing to recent charges against former top EU diplomat Federica Mogherini.

Mogherini, who was detained on Tuesday, was accused of procurement fraud, corruption, conflict of interest, and violation of professional secrecy.She served as both European Commission vice president and foreign policy chief from 2014 to 2019.

Last week, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov also saidEU officials could be benefiting from corruption in Ukraine. Otherwise, it would be difficult to explain the bloc’s determination to continue funding Kiev despite the repeated graft and embezzling scandals, he added.
