'Pedophiles are people' sign posted near school

WEST LINN, Ore. — A disturbing sign showed up in a local neighborhood, and people are wondering who would put it up.

It says, "Pedophiles are people too.”

The sign was hung up around Willamette Primary School.

One thing that struck us, and people on social media, was that the background looked like a gay pride flag.

We spoke to folks at the Q center in Portland.

"It's just very clear that this message was meant to stigmatize and stereotype LGBTQ people," said Cameron Whitten, Q Center executive director. "At a time when we are facing homophobia, transphobia, it is not helpful for these kinds of harmful messages to be disseminated out."

Neighbors told KATU they took the sign down.

ASSANGE MAY FINALLY LEAVE ECUADORIAN EMBASSY IN LONDON AS HEALTH WORSENS – REPORT

Julian Assange, who has spent more than 2,230 days in the Ecuadorian embassy in London, is expected to leave the building soon with his health deteriorating, sources say.

This latest information about the WikiLeaks founder, who was already expected to leave the embassy “in the coming weeks,” was broken Wednesday by Bloomberg which cited “two people with knowledge of the matter.” The news agency reported that the whistleblower’s health “has declined recently.”

The news comes days after Ecuadorian President Lenin Moreno announced that Assange must “eventually” leave the embassy. “Yes, indeed yes, but his departure should come about through dialogue,” the Ecuadorian president said in answer to a reporter’s question on whether he will eventually have to leave.

“For a person to stay confined like that for so long is tantamount to a human rights violation,” Moreno said, stressing that Ecuador wants to make sure that nothing “poses a danger” to the whistleblower’s life.

The whistleblower’s health is deteriorating, according to the Courage Foundation, a group that fundraises for the legal defense of whistleblowers. Assange is in “a small space” and has “no access to sunlight,” the group says, adding that this has a serious impact “on his physical and mental health.”

Rape allegations, stemming from Assange’s visit to Sweden in August 2010, were the main reason that he sought refuge in London’s Ecuadorian embassy in 2012 when a warrant was issued for his arrest. Assange maintained that he could be extradited from Sweden to the US, where he would be prosecuted for his whistleblowing and would not receive a fair trial. Swedish prosecutors dropped the investigation in 2017, but a British warrant for violating bail conditions still stands.

Washington simply “wants revenge” for the “embarrassment” WikiLeaks caused it, and wants it to serve “as a deterrent to others,” human rights activist Peter Tatchell told RT earlier in July. “Someone who’s published that information in the same way that the New York Times or the Guardian publish information, I don’t think they should face risk 30 or 40 years in jail in the United States,” Tatchell added.

Launched in 2006, the WikiLeaks project is aimed at exposing government and corporate secrets. It garnered global attention back in 2010 with its massive release of classified US military documents, which included those detailing how American military equipment was deployed in Afghanistan and Iraq. Assange won thousands of admirers, with many applauding his willingness to speak the truth.

[Silly] death/extortion threats come in – now what’s a journalist to do? – Publish them!

Within the last few weeks, I have had hints that some people don’t like me. In fact, if some are to be believed – and I am not sure I believe any of it – they dislike me enough to want to kill me.

First I got a call from a reliable source who told me that, because of my work exposing NXIVM, a certain individual says he/she plans to kill me. I cannot name this person – for under the terms of the agreement I made in exchange for the information – I promised I would not reveal the party who wants me dead. Whether that individual actually meant what he/she said or was just talking through his/her angry ass – is hard for me to know. I wrote it off as a bluff.

On July 19, 2018 at 7:48 am an anonymous commenter posted on Frank Report:

I live near Niagara Falls part of the year and if anyone was going to send murderers to find me – it is not a bad place to start. But keep in mind this was an anonymous post. If the Feds actually have this info – as the commenter suggests – I would think they might get around to informing me. I forgot about this comment the same day it appeared.

The perpetrator elevated my estimation of his potential seriousness when he threatened that if I were not stopped, my friend’s family members from Clifton Park, NY — near the main NXIVM former headquarters in Half Moon — would be harmed.

The messages were sent from a 518 prefix phone number [Albany]. However, it is possible the calls and texts were remotely rerouted using computer programs.

Venezuela's Democratic Socialist President: Our Economic Model Has 'Failed'

Venezuela President Nicolas Maduro admitted on Tuesday that the economic models of his democratic socialist regime have "failed."

"The production models we've tried so far have failed and the responsibility is ours, mine and yours," Maduro told his United Socialist Party-controlled congress, AFP reports.

"Enough with the whining," he said later, AFP reports. "We need to produce with or without (outside) aggression, with or without blockades, we need to make Venezuela an economic power…. No more whining, I want solutions comrades!"

Maduro's admission of failure comes amid an inflation rate that reached a stunning 33,151% in July and predictions by the International Monetary Fund that the country's GDP will shrink by double-digits again, this time by a devastating 18%.

As AFP explains, Venezuela's economic collapse follows the socialist regime's aggressive nationalization of various key industries and sectors, including cement and steel, supermarket chains, and hundreds of other businesses. Maduro has also imposed price controls in various industries and has even taken the dramatic step of marching the army into the streets to make sure that shops aren't defying price limits.

Maduro told his congress that he expects that it will take "about two years to reach a high level of stability" and experience "the first symptoms of new and economic prosperity, without for one second affecting social security and protection."

Venezuela's revenues are almost entirely dependent on oil production, which has dropped to just 1.5 million barrels a year, less than half the amount produced in 2008. Meanwhile, AFP notes, industry is operating at just 30% and the farming industry is only managing to supply a quarter of national consumption.
