NC man faces charges after ramming ICE vehicle and endangering federal agent's life

Milton Ermilo Arreaga Roblero, 23, was arrested after he was accused of ramming into ICE vehicles during an enforcement operation in Morrisville.

Authorities arrested a man, and he faces several charges after he was accused of ramming his car into an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) car and narrowly missing an ICE agent.

Milton Ermilo Arreaga Roblero, 23, was arrested in Morrisville after ICE agents said they were attempting to stop his vehicle during an enforcement operation.

While stopping the vehicle, agents said Roblero came to a complete stop before suddenly backing into one agent’s vehicle and then driving into four more. Officials said he also caused one agent to “jump out of the way” to avoid being hit.

Roblero was arrested shortly after by agents after officials said he drove over a curb.

Officials said the stop was a part of “Operation Take Back America,” a national initiative by the Department of Justice to reduce illegal immigration, eliminate all cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs) and protect communities from violent crime.

ICE agents were in the area with an arrest warrant for someone else. It was not until Roblero got out of his car, following the crash, that agents realized he was not the man they initially were searching for.

After further investigation, officers found Roblero already had a pending deportation order through ICE.

He now faces federal charges with assaulting, resisting and impeding a federal officer. If convicted, he could face 20 years in prison. He is due in court on Tuesday, Dec. 16.

U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina Ellis Boyle said an assault on any federal officer is an “attack on the rule of law itself.”

“When someone allegedly drives a vehicle to threaten or endanger ICE agents, we treat it with the utmost seriousness,” Boyle said. “We have zero tolerance for conduct that puts our officers or the public at risk, and this office will take every lawful step to protect our families, officers, and communities.”

FBI Special Agent James C. Barnacle Jr. echoed Boyle's sentiments.

"When a federal agent is attempting to make a lawful arrest, there is no excuse to respond with violence," Barnaclesaid. "The FBI will continue to work alongside our law enforcement partners to support illegal immigrant enforcement operations."

Officers said Roblero's arrest was not linked to the immigration arrests that took place in parts of North Carolina, from Charlotte to parts of the Triangle. Federal officials said about 250 people were arrested during that operation.
