Flu season has hit a month earlier than normal this year, with experts warning there appears to be a more severe strain of the virus – mutated H3N2 – circulating.

Hospitals around the country, like this one in Leicester, are doing all they can to avoid becoming completely overwhelmed.

“Completely overwhelmed.” Sounds familiar?

They’re at the Royal Infirmary in Leicester, and after citing some choice case studies, miss no opportunity to make it sound like the end of the world is imminent:

“There are patients in every cubicle,” Consultant Saad Jawaid says, as Paige is wheeled in. “Another ambulance has just rocked up.”

We watch as he works with colleagues in the resus unit to find desperately needed bed spaces.

“When beds are full we have to move people – sometimes that means those who can sit are moved out of beds and into chairs,” he says.

Letitia James Off The Hook Again As 2nd Grand Jury Refuses To Indict

New York Attorney General Letitia James has dodged yet another bullet from the Trump DOJ, after a second federal grand jury in Alexandria, Virginia declined to indict her on mortgage fraud charges for the second time in a week, after their first case against James was dismissed because a federal judge ruled that Halligan's appointment as interim US attorney was invalid under federal law because she took office after the statutory 120-day interim appointment period had expired.

Apparently "any good prosecutor" cannot get a grand jury to indict a ham sandwich. Or we're not dealing with "any" good prosecutors - as a decision like this from a grand jury is rare due to the fact that only prosecutors appear before them and defendants do not get to offer evidence to rebut the charges.

"For the second time in seven days, the Department of Justice has failed in its clear attempt to fulfill President Trump’s political vendetta against Attorney General James. This unprecedented rejection makes even clearer that this case should never have seen the light of day," said Abbe Lowell, a lawyer representing James. "This case already has been a stain on this Department’s reputation and raises troubling questions about its integrity. Any further attempt to revive these discredited charges would be a mockery of our system of justice."

James was charged with one count of bank fraud and one count of making a false statement in 2020 connected to a home in Norfolk, Virginia. She is accused of indicating on mortgage paperwork that the purchase would be her second home - except she then rented it out and/or let her niece live in it. James denies wrongdoing.

The initial case was prosecuted by Lindsey Halligan, who Trump installed as the acting US attorney for the eastern district of Virginia. While Halligan was able to get a grand jury to indict James, a federal judge dismissed the case - ruling that she was improperly appointed to the post. The effect of the ruling also resulted in the dismissal of the criminal case against former FBI Director James Comey.

Nothing is stopping the DOJ from taking another bite at the apple and refiling the case against James.

Whistleblower links US military brass meeting to Kirk assassination

A 35-year military veteran and whistleblower, Harry Meyers, who apparently exposed a drug cartel rail tunnel linking to a border patrol agent in 1990, accidentally walked straight into what he believes was the final planning meeting for Charlie Kirk’s assassination.

The meeting took place on September 9th, 2025, the day before Kirk’s assassination, at the Joint Task Force Southern Border HQ, Fort Huachuca, Arizona. The information was detailed in an email sent to Candace Owens, who says it all checks out.

The link between the meeting and the Kirk event the day after was the alleged presence at the meeting of Kirk’s security chief Brian Harpole.

Fort Huachuca was compromised by Mossad agents in 2022, when they set up a laptop stand in a mall near the base to spy on American troops, according to independent journalist Patrick Howley.

Meyers, who is 56, said he saw a room of more than 12 lieutenant colonels (not normally seen outside the Pentagon) and and then recognised Harpole “walking out with a gray-haired man in glasses who was clearly running the show”.

Harpole recently appeared on YouTube on the Shawn Ryan Show, over his experiences on the day of the shooting, including his attempts to stop the blood gushing from Kirk’s neck wound.

But Harpole was pulled up over his claim that campus police did not allow drones, when it was revealed that TPUSA staff were showing drone footage of the site on the day to people traveling to the event.

There was also a commander in charge of the meeting named Captain Daniel R. Neff, who is believed to be related to Blake Neff, Charlie Kirk’s former producer at TPUSA and a former Fox News colleague and friend of Tucker Carlson.

Capt. Neff apparently detained and interrogated Meyers for seven hours, trying to label him a “bomb threat” and a spy, Project Constitution reports.

They threatened charges “and only let him go after verifying he wasn’t part of some counter-op.” While Meyers was flying home to Washington, his wife called him at a stop-over with the news that Kirk had been assassinated.

“This man has the incident report number, hotel receipts, call logs, timestamps – everything,” says Project Constitution. The information was initially sent to Owens.

“Candace verified what she could and says it’s 100% legit. This isn’t conspiracy theory, this is a decorated veteran who stumbled into the room where they allegedly finalized the hit on Charlie Kirk… and lived to tell it.”

So there is now a direct eyewitness who placed TPUSA leadership inside a classified military facility the day before Charlie was killed.

Washington state says it accidentally issued nearly 700 commercial driver's licenses over the past seven years to non-US citizens who did not qualify to have them. Washington is a so-called "sanctuary state" for illegal immigrants.

The revelation comes as the Evergreen State sits in the crosshairs of the Trump administration's CDL crackdown following the case of Harjinder Singh, an illegal alien who allegedly made an illegal U-turn in a semi-truck and killed three people in Florida in August. Singh, who crossed the border illegally in 2018, failed the required tests and allegedly did not speak English.

Washington still issued him a commercial driver’s license, which he then used to obtain a California CDL. After the fatal crash, Florida’s attorney general asked the US Supreme Court to permanently bar Washington and California from issuing commercial licenses to noncitizens. Washington has until Jan. 27 to respond.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy has since threatened to withhold federal highway funding from states that issue CDLs to immigrants who don’t qualify and has moved to tighten eligibility rules, moves now being litigated. According to the Washington State Standard, the state Department of Licensing (DOL) found 685 CDLs had been wrongly issued over seven years.

A US Department of Transportation spokesperson told the outlet that Washington’s “failure to follow federal law is a blatant breakdown in its responsibility to protect the public,” adding that by handing out CDLs to ineligible drivers, the state “sent unsafe foreign drivers onto highways across America and put countless families in danger. This is exactly the kind of negligence Secretary Duffy is working to eliminate. Following the law is not optional.”

DOL spokesperson Nathan Olson said, “Errors have been addressed, and DOL is working to make changes in our system, process, procedures, and training to prevent mis-issuances in the future.”

The admissions came the same week a Mexican national was arrested after Washington State Patrol said he caused a six-vehicle pileup on I-5 in Lacey when the car-hauling semi he was driving, without a CDL, slammed into the back of a school bus. Troopers said Juan Hernandez-Santos had no commercial license, no insurance, and no valid medical card. He was charged with operating a commercial vehicle without a valid license, a gross misdemeanor. The at-fault carrier is based in California.

Journalist Files Defense in Anti-Semitism Test Case

Mary Kostakidis, a national TV news presenter in Australia for two decades, has asked a federal judge to throw out the Zionist Federation’s charge against her of racially vilifying Jews, reports Joe Lauria.

Embattled Australian journalist Mary Kostakidis has filed her formal defense against the charge by the Zionist Federation of Australia that she is an anti-semite, telling a federal judge the allegation of racial vilification is really intended to smear legitimate criticism of Israel and stifle free speech.

In her 29-page filing, Kostakidis argues that her reporting on Israel’s actions in Gaza did not target Jewish people but the Israeli government. Her posts on X had nothing to do with the “race or national or ethnic origin of Jewish Australians and/or Israeli Australians,” she says.

The Zionist Federation of Australia “instituted the present proceeding vexatiously and without reasonable cause and in bad faith,” the defense argues.

At the heart of the case is whether criticizing Zionism, the secular political movement behind the establishment and governance of the state of Israel, is the same as an anti-semitic, irrational hatred of Jews.

The term “Zionist” is not even defined in the Zionist Federation’s complaint against her, and “may bear a range of meanings,” Kostakidis says. “One definition of Zionism is the ‘aim to establish a Jewish state by taking over as much of historical Palestine as possible and leaving in it as few Palestinians as possible,” she says, quoting from Israeli historian Ilan Pappe and Jewish-American scholar Noam Chomsky in their book On Palestine.

“Zionism is a political philosophy or ideology and not a race or an ethnic group,” the defense says in its filing to Australian Federal Court in Melbourne on Nov. 29.

At issue in this case — and in the three-year battle by critics of Israel against the organized suppression of their views — is whether criticizing a government’s conduct disparages an entire ethnic group.

Kostakidis cites a similar case to hers this year in which a Muslim cleric in Sydney was tried under the same law as in her case. The cleric was found to have made anti-semitic statements, however the judge in the case, Justice Angus Stewart, ruled significantly that:

“Political criticism of Israel, however inflammatory or adversarial, is not by its nature, criticism of Jews in general or based on Jewish racial or ethnic identity. The conclusion that it is not antisemitic to criticise Israel is the corollary of the conclusion that to blame Jews for the actions of Israel is antisemitic; the one flows from the other.”

Israel Used Palantir Technology In Its 2024 Lebanon Pager Attack

Palantir software was used by Israel in its 2024 pager attacks in Lebanon, according to a new book by Alex Karp, co-founder of the Palantir tech company. On September 17, thousands of pagers belonging to Hezbollah members, including civilians not involved in any armed activity, were detonated across Lebanon.

Many showed "error" messages and vibrated loudly prior to exploding, luring Hezbollah members or, in some cases, their family members to stand close by at the point of detonation. The next day more communication devices exploded, including at the public funerals of Hezbollah members and civilians who had been killed the previous day.

While many Israeli figures celebrated, praised and even joked about the attacks, United Nations experts called them a "terrifying" violation of international law. In total, 42 people were killed and thousands wounded, many left with life-altering injuries to the eyes, face and hands.

Karp's new biography reveals that Israel deepened its use of the company’s technology after it launched the war on Gaza in October 2023, deploying it in numerous operations.

"The company’s technology was deployed by the Israelis during military operations in Lebanon in 2024 that decimated Hezbollah’s top leadership," wrote Michael Steinberger, author of The Philosopher in the Valley: Alex Karp, Palantir, and the Rise of the Surveillance State.

"It was also used in Operation Grim Beeper, in which hundreds of Hezbollah fighters were injured and maimed when their pagers and walkie-talkies exploded (the Israelis had booby trapped the devices)."

He said that the demand for Palantir’s assistance by Israel "was so great that the company dispatched a team of engineers from London to help get Israeli users online".

The involvement of a range of tech companies in Israel's attacks on its neighbors in recent years, as well as for attacking and surveilling Palestinians, has sparked anger from rights campaigners and UN officials.

In a report produced by UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese in July, several tech companies were accused of profiting from crimes including illegal occupation, apartheid and genocide in occupied Palestine. The report referenced AI systems that were developed by the Israeli military to process and generate targets during the war on Gaza.

"There are reasonable grounds to believe Palantir has provided automatic predictive policing technology, core defense infrastructure for rapid and scaled-up construction and deployment of military software, and its Artificial Intelligence Platform, which allows real-time battlefield data integration for automated decision making," the report said.
