EU breaks fundamental vote rule to freeze Russian assets indefinitely: Live Updates
The bloc has invoked emergency treaty powers to circumvent unanimity rules to bypass vetoes from opposing member states
The European Commission, and its head Ursula von der Leyen, want to use the $246 billion in Russian sovereign funds immobilized by the bloc after the escalation of the Ukraine conflict in 2022, to back a “reparations loan” for Kiev.
The loan scheme has been opposed by member states, including Hungary, Slovakia, which are against providing further aid to Kiev. Belgium, where most of the funds are held, has also raised concerns due to legal and financial risks. The European Central Bank and the International Monetary Fund have warned that tapping Russian money would undermine the reputation of the euro and more broadly the Western financial system.
Russia has condemned the freeze as illegal and called any use of the funds as “theft,” warning of economic and legal retaliation.
The vote put forward by von der Leyen reframed the issue of frozen Russian assets as an economic emergency rather than a sanctions policy. This allowed the Commission to invoke Article 122 of the EU treaties, an emergency clause that permits decisions to be adopted by a qualified majority vote instead of unanimity, effectively bypassing veto threats from countries opposed to the move.
Invoking the clause is unprecedented and raises concerns about the sanctity of the fundamental principle of EU politics that major foreign policy, budget, and defense decisions are made by unanimous consent.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has condemned the EU for using a qualified majority vote as “unlawful” and dangerous for the bloc. In a Facebook post, he warned the move would cause “irreparable damage to the Union,” saying Brussels was “stepping over the Rubicon.” He added that Hungary “protests the decision” and will do all it can to “restore a lawful situation.”

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has welcomed the Council’s decision to continue immobilizing Russian sovereign assets indefinitely. In a post on X, she said the step “sends a strong signal to Russia” that as long as its “brutal war of aggression” goes on, its costs will keep rising. She framed the move as a message to Kiev as well, saying the EU wants to ensure Ukraine becomes “even stronger on the battlefield and at the negotiating table.”

Russian Central Bank Sues Euroclear As EU Tries To Ram Through Assets Seizure
In what could prove a well-timed preemptive attack and shot across the bow, Russia’s Central Bank (CBR) announced Friday it has initiated legal action against Euroclear, one of Europe's largest securities depositories, which is holding 185 billion euros ($217 billion) of Russia’s frozen sovereign assets.
The CBR has filed a lawsuit against the Belgium-based bank in the Moscow Arbitration Court over "illegal actions" - just as European Union leadership is making a move to approve a plan to fund the Ukrainian government for the next years by using income from the Russian assets immobilized under EU sanctions.
"Euroclear’s actions caused harm to the Bank of Russia by preventing it from managing the funds and securities that belong to it," the Russian Central Bank said in the statement. The lawsuit seeks compensation for losses as a result of Euroclear indefinitely blocking access to the funds.
The RCB has also separately condemned wider EU plans to use Russian assets to aid Ukraine as "illegal, contrary to international law" as they violate "the principles of sovereign immunity of assets."
This is the first time in the entire frozen Russian asset saga that the bank has publicly commented on this issue. This lack of official condemnation until now is perhaps due to each side knowing greater tit-for-tat repercussions could unfold - or a point of no return could be reached if things unravel.
The European Central Bank has also long cautioned that if Europeans start grabbing other nations' money, it could undermine confidence in the euro currency. To review, the assets were frozen shortly after the Russian invasion of Ukraine:
In 2022, Western countries froze assets belonging to Russia’s central bank totaling about 260 billion euros. Most of these funds — roughly 190 billion euros — are held in accounts at the Belgian depository Euroclear. Euroclear earns profits from the frozen Russian assets, but in 2024, those proceeds were directed toward financing Ukraine. Over the past three years, European leaders have repeatedly discussed the possibility of confiscating Russia’s frozen assets.
Currently EU member states are rapidly advancing a plan ahead of a key summit next week. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen is seeking to use a loophole to prevent a lone member or two from having an effective veto (especially Hungary), based on invoking emergency powers to sanction the frozen assets on a permanent basis, instead of holding the funds based on current six-month renewals, which requires unanimous agreement from all member states.

Nemo, who won last year’s contest with the song ‘The Code’, said on Thursday that the trophy “no longer belongs on my shelf.”
“Eurovision says it stands for unity, for inclusion and dignity for all people,” Nemo said in a social media post, adding that Israel’s participation during what the UN’s Independent International Commission of Inquiry said is a genocide shows “a clear conflict” with those principles.

USAID linked to pharma testing on Ukrainians – Russian MOD

The US Agency for International Development (USAID) could have been involved in testing pharmaceutical drugs on Ukrainians, a senior Russian military official said on Friday. The agency was officially closed by the administration of US President Donald Trump this summer.
According to Major General Aleksey Rtishchev, the head of Russia’s Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Protection Troops, US officials have acknowledged defense-related work at biological laboratories in Ukraine.
He named, among others, former National Security Council spokesman John Kirby, former senior State Department official Victoria Nuland, and Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
Rtishchev noted that Cornell University organic chemistry professor Dave Collum told American journalist Tucker Carlson in an interview in August that pharmaceutical drugs had been tested on the Ukrainian population in 38 laboratories.
“To ensure secrecy, the customers behind such research are not military agencies but civilian agencies and non-governmental organizations. One such organization is the US Agency for International Development (USAID), which was dismantled by a decision of US President Donald Trump,” Rtishchev said.
According to the major general, USAID also provided funding for Event 201, a pandemic simulation exercise that focused on how to respond to a coronavirus outbreak. “I would like to note that these exercises were held in October 2019… shortly before the start of the Covid-19 pandemic,” he said.
Russia’s claims that USAID was involved in unlawful activity were reinforced, Rtishchev added, by comments made by billionaire Elon Musk, who previously headed a US government efficiency agency and has called USAID a “criminal organization.”
Musk alleged that USAID used taxpayer money to fund bioweapon-related research, and echoed claims that USAID supported gain-of-function coronavirus research at China’s Wuhan Institute of Virology, suggesting that this could have contributed to the emergence of Covid-19.
Russia has raised concerns in the past about Pentagon-backed biological laboratories in Ukraine and other countries near its borders, suggesting that they are involved in bioweapons research.

Palantir Quietly Lands In Education Department Through Foreign Funding Portal

Palantir is expanding its reach into the Education Department, where the data analytics and software giant is helping develop the agency’s new portal for universities across the country to report foreign donations.
The quiet move marks the technology company’s latest expansion into federal government work, particularly in data management services.
An Education Department spokesperson confirmed Palantir was involved as a subcontractor for its revamped foreign funding portal, which is set to be rolled out early next month.
The agency announced the portal project this week, but did not name the vendors behind it. The portal will serve as a central place for schools to disclose to the department any foreign-source gifts and contracts worth $250,000 or more, the agency said.
Palantir is a subcontractor to Monkton, a northern Virginia-based computer and network security company, the spokesperson told FedScoop. According to federal spending records, the Education Department awarded a contract to Monkton in September that obligated $9.8 million for the design, development, and deployment of a “Section 117 Information Sharing Environment Capable of Providing Greater Transparency.” Palantir, however, is not publicly listed as a subcontractor on the project.
Section 117 of the Higher Education Act requires schools to disclose foreign gifts and contracts over $250,000.
The contract with Monkton could cost the agency up to $61.8 million, more than six times the cost of the modernization project for the ed.gov website, which was allocated $10 million in 2022.
Speculation over the portal began after the agency’s Office of the Chief Information Officer registered a new federal domain, foreignfundinghighered.gov, which was discovered by a bot tracking new government domains.
When FedScoop visited the link shortly before 10:30 a.m. ET on Thursday, the website showed a blocked network alert, which read, “The network connection you are using is not in your enrollment’s ingress allowlist. Please contact your enrollment administrator or Palantir representative.”

DOT Discovers Over Half of NY Commercial Drivers Are Illegals, Threatens to Revoke Federal Funding.
U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) Secretary Sean Duffy warned on Friday that New York could lose $73 million in federal highway funding following a Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) audit. The audit revealed that 53 percent of sampled commercial driver’s licenses (CDLs) issued by the New York Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) were unlawfully granted to foreign nationals residing in the U.S. illegally.“
When more than half of the licenses reviewed were issued illegally, it isn’t just a mistake—it is a dereliction of duty by state leadership,” Secretary Duffy said, adding: “Gov. Hochul must immediately revoke these illegally issued licenses. If they refuse to follow the law, we will withhold federal highway funding.”
The FMCSA audit reviewed 200 New York CDL records, finding that 107 licenses were unlawfully issued. In some cases, the DMV reportedly issued licenses based on expired lawful presence documents or defaulted to granting eight-year licenses to foreign commercial drivers without verifying their legal status. FMCSA Administrator Derek Barrs labeled the state’s practices a “grossly unacceptable deviation from federal regulations.”
However, New York officials are denying the allegations. DMV spokesman Walter McClure accused Sec. Duffy of political posturing, stating, “Secretary Duffy is lying about New York state once again in a desperate attempt to distract from the failing, chaotic administration he represents.” McClure insisted that the state complies with all federal regulations and reviews lawful status documents for all CDL applicants.The Department of Transportation (DOT) has given New York 30 days to respond. In addition to revoking the illegally issued licenses, Duffy has urged the state to pause issuing new licenses or learner’s permits and conduct a comprehensive audit of its CDL program.

The House documents shed light on Epstein’s relationships to Democratic powerbrokers like Harvard economist Larry Summers and LinkedIn cofounder and former advisor to the MIT Media Lab Reid Hoffman, whom Trump described as a “sleazebag” while answering questions from reporters on Nov. 19.
“I was never a client of Epstein’s and never had any engagement with him other than fundraising for MIT,” Hoffman said on X on Nov. 14.
“I am deeply ashamed of my actions and recognize the pain they have caused,” Summers said in a statement on Nov. 17. “I take full responsibility for my misguided decision to continue communicating with Mr. Epstein.”
Harvard announced that it would initiate a new probe into its ties to Epstein on Nov. 19, and Summers announced he would leave his role as a Harvard instructor during the investigation. MIT has announced no such renewed probe.
Harvard added J.P. Morgan Asset & Wealth Management CEO Mary Erdoes to the governing board of its endowment on Nov. 25, the Harvard Crimson reported. Erdoes was in constant contact with Epstein while he was one of JP Morgan’s wealthiest clients, according to a Nov. 19 Senate memo.
Harvard did not respond to a request for comment.
MIT spokesperson Kimberly Allen said the university has nothing to add to the 2020 report it commissioned on Epstein.
“Following that review, MIT took a number of steps, including enhancements to our gift acceptance processes and donating to four nonprofits supporting survivors of sexual abuse,” Allen said.
Hoffman could not be reached for comment. Summers did not respond to a request for comment sent to his spokesperson.

A lawyer and whistleblower says mass welfare fraud committed by Somalis in the U.S. extends to her home state of Ohio, citing discussions with anonymous providers, Fox News reported Friday.
Attorney Mehek Cooke has heard from Medicaid providers among Ohio’s Somali population that they were pressured into participating in a fraud operation involving funds for fake medical conditions, she told Fox News. The allegations come after federal investigators revealed more than $1 billion in stolen taxpayer funds in Minnesota overwhelmingly tied to its large Somali population, putting the issue in the national spotlight.
Scammers are taking advantage of an Ohio Medicaid policy that allows one to receive thousands of dollars to ostensibly provide medical care to a family member, with doctors cashing on their own funds in return for approving the payments, Cooke said.
“They’re just rubberstamping a lot of these,” Cooke told Fox News. “And then that same individual, a week later, that’s supposed to be bedridden, is all over social media, whether they’re out dancing at a party or something like that. So, the symptoms aren’t really adding up at the end of the day.”
“Say I want to take care of my elderly aging parents at some point,” she said. “I can become a home health provider, and this is where the Somali community has been really clever. They’ve been able to find loopholes in Ohio law to provide for care for family members, even when they don’t need it.”
After the Department of Justice (DOJ) brought charges against alleged fraudsters in Minnesota, another whistleblower, Christopher Bernardini, alleged that his Somali-owned health services contractor in Maine falsified records to benefit from Medicaid.
Cooke likewise said that the Somali-linked fraud revealed publicly in Minnesota is only the “tip of the spear,” according to Fox News.
“What we’re seeing in Minneapolis is just a snippet of what’s happening in Ohio,” she said.

Portuguese Law Enforcement: Latin American ‘Narco-Subs’ Are Swarming Europe
Portugal’s chief narcotics police officer, Artur Vaz, said on Monday that Latin American drug cartels are shipping huge amounts of cocaine to Europe, frequently using cheap “narco-subs” that have proven difficult for European coastal patrols to detect.
“Europe is literally being flooded with cocaine,” Vaz told Fox News. “Criminal organizations … acquire the drugs in Latin America, and then the price at which they place it in the markets … there’s a big profit margin here.”
According to Vaz, some of the cartel’s products are shipped by traditional methods, including illicit loads on cargo ships and high-speed drug boats, but the “narco-subs” are a new threat. They are not true submarines, but rather cheaply made boats whose hulls are mostly hidden under the water. Only the top of the ship is exposed above the waves, and the cartels found it easy to paint the hull with colors that match the waves of the Atlantic Ocean.
Portugal managed to intercept a narco-sub in early November, with support from the UK National Crime Agency and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), seizing over 1.7 metric tons of cocaine that was bound for the Iberian peninsula.
The ship had a crew of four, including two Ecuadorians, a Colombian, and a Venezuelan – a mix that told Portuguese police they were dealing with a multi-national cartel. The narco-sub was so shoddily constructed that it sank in the Atlantic after the crew and cargo were seized.
“Between the heat, the vessel’s fumes and high waves, with difficult weather conditions, even one day is tricky. By the end of 15 or 20 days all you want is to get out,” Portuguese drug enforcement official Vitor Ananias said of the hellish conditions endured by the crew.
The intercept in November was apparently made possible by a tip that told Portuguese authorities there was a narco-sub on the way. Sjoerd Top, director of the Maritime Analysis and Operations Center-Narcotics (MAOC-N), noted there have been “very few successful interceptions of semi-submersibles” and commended the Portuguese Navy for doing a “brilliant job.”
Portugal captured another narco-sub in March, along with its cargo of 6.5 tonnes of cocaine, but drug enforcement experts say most of the subs are getting through, bringing huge amounts of cocaine to Europe’s shores.

The American Zionist Movement’s problem is not merely organizational incompetence. It is an ideological collapse.
I attended the American Zionist Movement’s biennial expecting urgency, seriousness, and some acknowledgment that October 7 permanently changed the Jewish world. I anticipated reflection, accountability, and at least a hint of strategic reconsideration. Instead, I entered a room frozen in time, led by people who seemed unaware that the ground beneath them had already collapsed.
Most attendees were well into their sixties and seventies, presiding over a movement they no longer understand and will not live to see renewed or replaced. Out of the entire gathering, perhaps three of us were under forty. Even before the word “future” was spoken, the contradiction was clear. The opening speakers only made it more obvious.
One of the first speakers delivered a talk so hollow and disconnected from reality that people quietly left—not out of disrespect, but boredom. That moment was not accidental. It was telling. It showed what the American Zionist Movement has become: an organization unable to create relevance, urgency, or meaning in the very moment it claims to shape the future.
The conference that couldn’t lead itself
The dysfunction was impossible to ignore. Sessions overlapped, vanished, or shifted without explanation. Communication was inconsistent or nonexistent. As both a sponsor and an invited speaker, I was afforded none of the basic courtesy one would expect at a serious gathering, let alone a national assembly claiming to guide American Zionism. Leadership that cannot manage logistics has no credibility in managing ideology.
Meanwhile, the AZM’s post-conference public relations messaging depicted the event as visionary, unified, and forward-looking. That narrative bore no resemblance to reality. What actually took place was not leadership but theater—a self-affirming ritual designed to reassure donors and insiders that the machinery still works, even as it grinds to a halt. The gap between the PR spin and the lived experience was so wide it bordered on parody.
Nowhere was the failure more revealing than the so-called Young Leadership Panel. On paper, it promised renewal. In practice, it exposed the movement’s decay. Two or three genuinely young participants sat on stage alongside legacy figures who had no structural reason to be there. Their presence was not about mentorship or transition; it was about control. What followed was not a conversation but a justification exercise.
The panel offered no concrete ideas, no pathways into leadership, no requests for engagement, and no challenges to the existing system. Young participants were expected to express gratitude rather than vision, deference rather than disruption. More than one speaker who attended the conference acknowledged afterward that the panel was confusing and misconstructed—that legacy figures did not need to occupy that space, and that even some of them likely knew it.
Instead of asking young people what they needed, the panelists explained why the system already works. Instead of cultivating leaders, they defended structures. This was not an accident. It was the point. I know this dynamic personally.

Our newly published, peer-reviewed critique and independent reanalysis of the Henry Ford vaccinated–unvaccinated birth cohort study (Lamerato et al.) — revealed at the U.S. Senate Hearing on September 9, 2025 — shows that the original authors failed to analyze or disclose the dramatic proportional differences present in their own data.
Authored by John W. Oller, Jr., PhD; Daniel Broudy, PhD; and Nicolas Hulscher, MPH, this peer-review and reanalysis provides the first accurate proportional interpretation of the dataset.
The Lamerato et al. study of a total population of 18,468 individuals between birth and 18 years of age during the years from 2000 to 2016 — of which the 16,511 in the vaccinated cohort received a median of 18 vaccines, whereas the 1,957 in the unvaccinated cohort received none at all — probably represents the most comprehensive real-world comparison of vaccinated versus unvaccinated children ever conducted within a self-contained whole population in a full-service integrated health system in the US.
For context, we calculated that the current CDC childhood immunization schedule now contains at least 81 doses of vaccines by age 18 — more than four times higher than the median exposure in the Henry Ford cohort. This means that the dramatic disparities we uncovered in this dataset emerge even at a fraction of the full CDC schedule.

Donald Trump has been sent a proposal outlining possible territorial concessions Ukraine might consider in a peace deal with Russia - a move viewed as a major breakthrough in the talks, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz revealed today.
Merz said the document was shared with Trump after he spoke by phone with several European leaders on Wednesday, but stressed that only President Zelensky and the Ukrainian people can decide what land, if any, could be given up.
'It mainly concerns the question of what territorial concessions Ukraine is prepared to make,' Merz said.
He cautioned however that ultimately 'the Ukrainian president and the Ukrainian people have to answer the question'.
Merz, in a joint press conference with NATO chief Mark Rutte, said 'it would be a mistake to force the Ukrainian president into a peace that his people will not accept after four years of suffering and death'.
On Wednesday, Trump expressed impatience with Ukraine and its European allies France, Britain and Germany.
Trump said 'strong words' were exchanged in the phone call with Merz, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron.
Merz said that further talks with the Americans were planned this weekend and that an international meeting on Ukraine 'could take place at the beginning of next week'.

UK Arrests 33 People a Day for Social Media Posts
The United Kingdom has eroded all citizens’ individual rights. No one is safe, even if they are thousands of miles away. Around 33 people are arrested each day for voicing opinions or engaging in legal actions that the government does not approve of. In 2023, authorities arrested over 12,000 people across England and Wales, citing the Communications Act and the Malicious Communications Act.
Arrests have increased and surpassed national borders. A man from Yorkshire was on holiday in Florida, participating in a favorite state pastime of marksmanship. He posted a picture of himself holding a rifle on social media, which should be perfectly legal. The rifle was lawfully owned and he was on private land. Nevertheless, the image was reported to the authorities, who descended on his home in the middle of the night. He spent the night in jail and later appeared at Bradford Magistrate Court where he faced up to six months imprisonment.
“‘I have not been able to sleep, I’ve lived in fear of a knock at my door for the last three months. I haven’t spoken to my neighbours for four months. It has damaged my ability to run my business,” the man told reporters. “I thought 1984 was a book, not an instruction manual.”
“1984” has been an instruction manual for the UK and other governments who are carefully monitoring every citizen, waiting for a misstep. Cameras are absolutely everywhere; it is only a matter of time before they start using drones to monitor citizens as they did in the book.
I have warned for decades that political systems enter decline when confidence shifts from government to the people. The crackdown on protests, censorship of dissenting views, and judicial overreach are the classic signs of a government losing legitimacy. The government insists it is “protecting” the public, when in reality, these measures are an attempt to maintain control over a population that sees government as the problem.
Thought control is merely the beginning. We are looking at Western governments implementing capital controls and restricting the freedom of movement.
The British people are experiencing what history has illustrated time and time again. Tyranny does not appear suddenly. Rather, it creeps into daily life until the people finally say “enough.” Until then, the ruling class will continue to believe they can legislate obedience, silence opposition, and cling to a system already in decline.
