Criminalizing Bible Verses? Canadian Lawmakers Target Religious Expression With Proposed ‘Hate Speech’ Amendment

In a move that should alarm anyone who is pro-free speech, members of Canada’s Liberal Party have capitulated to pressure from Quebec’s ultra-secular separatist party by voting to strip away a longstanding religious exemption from the country’s hate-speech laws as part of the draconian Bill C-9, also known as the so-called Combating Hate Act.

Canada’s Criminal Code has long shielded good-faith religious expression with a clear exemption that speech is not hate propaganda “if, in good faith, the person expressed or attempted to establish by an argument an opinion on a religious subject or an opinion based on a belief in a religious text.”

On Tuesday evening, that protection was casually deleted at the Bloc Québécois insistence.

CBC has the details on what happened next:

Progress appeared to stall after an initial committee meeting to go over the bill was abruptly cancelled last week. Three sources speaking to CBC News said the bill was held up because Justice Minister Sean Fraser’s office brokered the deal with the Bloc without getting buy-in from the Prime Minister’s Office. Tuesday’s meeting was scheduled last-minute after last week’s cancellation. The Bloc has long sought to remove the religious exemption, saying religion could be used as a cover for promoting hate, such as homophobia and antisemitism. Blanchet said his party would not support the bill without the amendment.

Conservatives immediately sounded the alarm. Canadian Opposition Leader Pierre Poilievre warned on X that the amendment would “criminalize sections of the Bible, Qur’an, Torah and other sacred texts.”

Liberal-Bloc amendments to C-9 will criminalize sections of the Bible, Quran, Torah, and other sacred texts.

Conservatives will oppose this latest Liberal assault on freedom of expression and religion.

At Tuesday’s meeting, Conservative MP Andrew Lawton accused the Liberals and Bloc of mounting “a full-scale assault on religious freedom.” When the amendment passed anyway, Conservative members filibustered, forcing an adjournment before clause-by-clause study could be completed.

🚨 FULL ASSAULT ON RELIGION 🚨

After 8 hours inside the Justice Committee, Liberals and the Bloc pushed an amendment that moves Canada toward criminalizing religious belief itself, regardless of faith.

This is the red line.

Canada’s Justice Minister Fraser, scrambling to contain the fallout, claimed the change “will not criminalize faith” and “in no way, shape or form prevent a religious leader from reading their religious texts.” Freedom of religion remains a Charter right, Fraser said—as if repeating the obvious somehow negates the chilling effect of removing an explicit statutory shield.

Fraser went on to argue that the exemption is “redundant” and that the government knows of no case in which it has ever led to an acquittal. One struggles to recall the last time the Carney government boasted about making a law stricter because the existing one had never actually been needed as a defense.

Sheila Gunn Reid of Rebel News summed up her opposition to the bill perfectly.

“Never forget: during COVID, this same political establishment jailed pastors for the “crime” of holding worship services. If they were willing to imprison pastors for preaching, what do you think they’ll do with new Criminal Code powers aimed explicitly at “religiously motivated” speech? They’ve done it before. They’ll do it again,” she wrote. “Bill C-9 is not a hate-speech bill. It is a power-seizing bill. It is a faith-targeting bill. It is a censorship bill. And it must be defeated. If you value free speech, free worship, free thought — now is the time to speak.”

Bill C-9 isn’t law yet as it still requires third reading in the House and passage through the Senate.

U.S. Embassy in Guatemala Weaponized Visa Process to Launder Cartel Money, Fuel Leftist Causes, Officials Say

GUATEMALA CITY, Dec. 11, 2025 — For years, I have avoided the term “deep state” because it sounded conspiratorial. As a former military journalist, I believed that using words like that triggered an immediate loss of credibility among certain audiences, so I purposely avoided it. However, after interviewing dozens of Guatemalan government officials last week, I’ve concluded the deep state is real and actively undermining President Trump’s interests and those of most Americans.

What I ultimately learned during my time in Guatemala is that Biden-era State Department holdovers at the U.S. embassy in Guatemala are facilitating a cartel money-laundering scheme to fund discontinued USAID programs, according to senior Guatemalan leaders. These same officials also said the American embassy fabricates charges against political enemies, leaks stories to the media, harasses, follows, and even attacks individuals to manipulate elections and secure desired outcomes.

This story may invite skepticism, and rightfully so—I’m a skeptic myself—but after lengthy closed-door meetings with over a dozen senior leaders from Guatemala’s executive, legislative, and judicial branches, their consistent accounts corroborate a clear and disturbing picture.

Representatives in Congress, Constitutional Court magistrates, and Attorney General’s office officials provided hours of testimony corroborating accounts that Guatemala’s government was coerced into borrowing over $1 billion in its new budget to fund NGOs previously supported by USAID.

Intimidation tactics included the U.S. embassy revoking visas for Guatemalan congressmen and their families, including sick relatives needing U.S. medical care and children studying in the U.S. In one case, a high-ranking Constitutional Court magistrate reported being followed; when she resisted pressure tactics from the American embassy, her vehicle was flipped in an attack intended for her daughter, though unbeknownst to the perpetrators, only her driver and security were inside. Thankfully, no one was seriously injured.

As a journalist, I rarely insert myself into stories, but traditional reporting might bury this amid the continuous stream of propaganda pushed on most “news” outlets these days. Context is essential: I’m an American, a 6-foot-5-inch-tall, 265-pound, Florida-born, white guy who traveled down to Guatemala through my personal connections in pursuit of the truth.

In 2022, I ran for U.S. Congress in Tampa, winning the Republican primary and leading on Election Day and early voting—despite more Democrats voting—but ended up losing via mail-in ballots (Florida mailed them to people who did not request them that year). That campaign introduced me to foreign affairs experts, senators, congressmen and businessmen around the world. Combined with my travels (15 countries just this year) and business dealings, it fostered unexpected international friendships.

About 18 months ago, I met a businessman who formerly served in the Guatemalan government, and he shared tales of U.S. State Department corruption.

At first, while I took his allegations seriously, I doubted most Americans would care about the issue back home. But the more we developed our friendship, the more he told me stories of gross manipulation of power, extortion and corruption.

However, hearing a story from one person is just one angle. Last week, I finally said, alright, I’ll fly down to Guatemala again, but line me up with some meetings. I wanted to talk to members of the Guatemalan government face-to-face. I wanted to hear what they had to say.

In all, I met with some of the most senior leaders in Guatemala, including Constitutional Court magistrates, the Attorney General of Guatemala and senior members of her team, mayors, congressmen, former presidential cabinet officials, business leaders and more. (It is important to note, due to credible and legitimate fears of U.S. embassy retaliation, the names of those officials are being withheld from this report.)

White House Slams Vermont School’s Somali Flag Hoist: ‘Aliens Who Hate America Should Not Be Here… American Schools Should Fly American Flags’

A public school district in Vermont, which is shockingly nine percent Somali, has raised the Somali flag on its campus alongside the state and American flags.

The White House has now responded to the scandal, and did not hold back.

The Winooski School District, located near Burlington and serving about 8,000 residents, hoisted the flag for an entire week at the beginning of December.

Winooski has been flooded with Somalis since 2003, as part of a U.S. government resettlement program, which dumps the migrants into small communities without any attempts at assimilation and fundamentally reshapes their communities.

This flag was raised in response to President Donald Trump’s comments labeling Somali immigrants as “garbage” who refuse to assimilate into American society.

During the flag raising, the school district held an event and served catered Somali food.

Superintendent Wilmer Chavarria, who decided to fly the foreign flag, framed the gesture as a celebration of “diversity” and “civil rights.”

Chavarria, an immigrant from Nicaragua, authorized the flag-raising without prior approval from the school board.

“We invited our students and community to come together for a little moment of normalcy in a sea of racist rhetoric nationally,” Chavarria told PBS. “We felt really good about it until the ugliness came knocking Monday morning.”

The people who oppose the foreign flag raising, according to Chavarria, are “deplorable.”

PBS reports:

What ensued was a deluge of phone calls, voicemails and social media posts aimed at district workers and students. Some school phone lines were shut down — along with the district website — as a way to shield staff from harassment. Chavarria said videos of the event did not also show the U.S. and Vermont flags were still up and spread through right-wing social media apps, leaving out the important context.

“Our staff members, our administrators and our community are overwhelmed right now, and they are being viciously attacked. The content of those attacks is extremely, extremely deplorable. I don’t know what other word to use,” Chavarria said Tuesday.

Mukhtar Abdullahi, an immigrant who serves as a multilingual liaison for families in the district who speak Somali and a related dialect, said “no one, no human being, regardless of where they come from, is garbage.” Students have asked if their immigrant parents are safe, he said.

“Regardless of what happens, I know we have a strong community,” Abdullahi said. “And I’m very, very, very thankful to be part of it.”

White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson had strong words in response to the flag scandal.

“Aliens who come to our country, complain about how much they hate America, fail to contribute to our economy, and refuse to assimilate into our society should not be here,” Jackson told PBS. “And American schools should fly American flags.”
