The White House rejected claims about an unpublished National Security Strategy after a report alleged a plan to use Italy, Austria, Hungary, and Poland to challenge the EU’s cohesion

The Trump administration’s new National Security Strategy was published last week, setting out the U.S.’s broad foreign policy direction for the remainder of his term. It focused on ending what it calls a “perpetually expanding NATO,” establishing “conditions of stability within Europe,” and encouraging European allies to “stand on [their] own feet” in security matters.

The document also warned that Europe faces “civilizational erasure,” citing migration, censorship of speech, declining birthrates, and what it described as a loss of national identity and self-confidence.

Days after the official release, however, the Defense One website reported that a longer, unreleased version of the NSS had circulated in Washington. According to the site, the unpublished version contained far more explicit political goals for reshaping Europe’s future and reducing the influence of the European Union. Defense One wrote that the extended draft urged the United States to “Make Europe Great Again,” proposing that Washington realign its attention toward a select group of governments ideologically closer to the Trump administration.

The unpublished version, Defense One reported, stated that Austria, Hungary, Italy, and Poland were countries the United States should “work more with… with the goal of pulling them away from the [European Union].” It also said the United States should support “parties, movements, and intellectual and cultural figures who seek sovereignty and preservation/restoration of traditional European ways of life… while remaining pro-American.”

Two US servicemen and civilian killed by ‘ISIS gunman’ in Syria

Three other service members were injured in the attack, the Pentagon has said

US military and civilian personnel have been ambushed by a “lone ISIS gunman” in Syria, with three killed and three others injured in the attack, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said on Saturday.

The gunman was “engaged and killed” during the attack, according to the US military. CENTCOM did not elaborate on where exactly the incident occurred and did not reveal the identities of the victims in accordance with the Pentagon’s policies.

According to local media reports, the attack occurred near the central Syrian town of Palmyra, where a joint patrol of the Syrian government forces and US troops came under fire. At least two Syrian servicemen were injured in the attack.

Traffic along the Damascus-Deir ez-Zor highway was temporarily halted after the attack, and the area around Palmyra was cordoned off. Multiple US military aircraft were seen flying at a low altitude in the area, footage circulating online suggests.

Land Along Southern Border Is Transferred to Navy To Become Part Of 'National Defense Area'

The Trump administration said on Dec. 10 that it would transfer roughly 760 acres of public land along the U.S.-Mexico border in California to the Navy for three years to support border security operations.

While announcing the decision Wednesday, the Interior Department said the land would become part of a “National Defense Area,” or militarized zone, to bolster immigration enforcement.

The land stretches from roughly a mile west of the California-Arizona state line to the western edge of the Otay Mountain Wilderness Area in San Diego and Imperial counties, according to the Interior Department.

“This corridor is one of the highest-traffic regions for unlawful crossings along the southern border, creating significant national security challenges and contributing to environmental degradation,” the department said.

The Interior Department said the land was originally set aside in 1907 by President Theodore Roosevelt for “border protection purposes,” and the Navy will use it to “strengthen operational capabilities while reducing ecological harm associated with sustained illegal activity.”

Since April, the federal government has transferred large portions of land along the southern border to the military, allowing troops to detain migrants attempting to cross the border or arrest people accused of trespassing on military bases.

The process began with a 170-mile swath of land along the border in New Mexico before the government expanded into Texas and Arizona.

French Public Broadcaster Claims Christmas Markets Are a Tradition Tied to the Nazis

A French public broadcaster has been accused of spreading anti-Christian messaging by saying that the tradition of Christmas markets is tied to Adolph Hitler and the Nazis.

This week, taxpayer-funded Franceinfo published a video titled “Christmas markets, a tradition rehabilitated by the Nazis” on social media, which, according to Le Figaro, opened with the question: “Did you know there’s a link between the Nazis and our beloved Christmas markets?”

The broadcaster went on to claim that the tradition was “largely revived” by the National Socialist German Workers’ Party under Adolph Hitler in the 1930s as a means of promoting economic growth by encouraging the purchase of goods made in Germany at Christmas markets.

While Franceinfo journalist Antoine Milan Depeuille acknowledged that Christmas markets predate the formation of the Nazi party by hundreds of years during the Holy Roman Empire and spread widely across the continent during the Industrial Revolution, he claimed that they made a “strong comeback” in Hitler’s Germany in the 1930s after being pushed to the periphery of cities by “elites”.

“With the Nazi dictatorship, Christmas became a nationalist holiday. Christmas markets helped promote German heritage,” and “stimulate the economy with products made in Germany,” he said, claiming that the Nazis “decided to reinstate Christmas markets in city centres”.

Amid steep backlash on social media, with the broadcaster facing accusations of anti-Christian bias, Franceinfo removed the video from its accounts.

The public broadcaster’s move to tie Christmas markets to the Nazis was hailed by the French Communist Party-aligned L’Humanité newspaper, which declared: “Franceinfo is right: our Christmas markets do indeed have a link with the Nazis! Much to the dismay of the far right, which seeks to rewrite history while also attacking public service in the process.”

Cabinet legalizes 19 West Bank outposts, including 2 vacated in 2005 disengagement

Move unanimously approved, US was notified ahead of time, report says; PA slams ‘annexation, apartheid and complete Judaization of Palestinian land’

The cabinet voted Thursday to grant official status to 19 illegal outposts in the West Bank, including two that were vacated 20 years ago under the Disengagement Plan, according to media and settlement groups.

According to Ynet and Channel 14, the unanimous vote was based on a proposal by Defense Minister Israel Katz and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, who is also in charge of the Defense Ministry’s settlement directorate. Ynet reported that Washington was briefed on the move ahead of time.

Mu’ayyan Sa’ban, head of the Palestinian Authority’s Colonization and Wall Resistance Commission, said the decision was a “dangerous escalation” and accused Israel of seeking to “entrench annexation, apartheid and complete Judaization of Palestinian land.”

“The decision by the so-called ‘Israeli occupation cabinet’ to establish and settle 19 new colonies across the West Bank constitutes the latest step in a race to annihilate Palestinian geography for the sake of settler colonialism,” said Sha’aban, who holds the rank of minister in the PA.

The move came after the Interior Ministry on Sunday announced the final legalization of eight other outposts, with Smotrich, himself a settler, hailing the move for “promoting de facto sovereignty in Judea and Samaria” — the biblical name for the West Bank — and preventing the establishment of a Palestinian state there.

Governor Polis and his Secretary of State, Jena Griswold, claim that Tina Peters belongs in prison. However, she is actually a political prisoner. Why else would a 70 year old lady convicted for victimless white collar crimes be held in the maximum security unit of a prison where she has the smallest cell, of about 7 square feet for her cellmate and her next to their beds. In fact, since mid-day on Monday, she has been in the “Hole.” Solitary confinement is such a cruel punishment that it causes the most extreme monsters behave themselves and comply with the rules. Yet, she has been in solitary confinement, not for doing anything wrong, but just for her perceived protection.

The Governor said that he will abide by the judgment of the courts. However, the process of litigation takes time, and Tina Peters needs to be released while the legal issues are being resolved. The governor has no way to know which way the courts will decide the issue of whether President Trump has the right to pardon prisoners who were convicted of state offenses. As such, he has no right to hold her. It is not an option for him to hold someone in prison when he cannot know if she should be released or held. That issue must always be determined in favor of the individual who is incarcerated.

He has no right to keep a person in prison because she may belong there. If he does, he is, at the very least, imprisoning a pardoned lady, which has serious legal ramifications and liabilities.

The fact of the matter is that those in power, such as Governor Polis and his Secretary of State, Jena Griswold, become lulled in their echo chambers to be blind to the fact that their situation is changing. Today, these folk are in charge, but tomorrow, they are going to be held accountable. This is especially true for Jena Griswold, who is the one who wiped and re-wrote the hard drives of the Dominion hard drives when she had the Trusted Build installed. Instead of fighting to have Tina Peters in prison, she should realize that her time is limited before she may be in handcuffs, herself. After all, her deletion of the hard drives was a violation of federal law. It is so ironic when the one who destroyed evidence is taking a harsh position that the one who was preserving the evidence remain in prison. If they have any smarts, at all, they would stop their silly game of wrongfully imprisoning an innocent woman for whom half of this country are celebrating the pardon President Trump granted.

Israel preparing largest ever act of ‘archeological cleansing’ in West Bank

Subordinating scientific value to colonial expansion, Israeli archeologists are putting up no resistance as the state moves to expropriate swaths of Sebastia.

While residents of Sebastia, a Palestinian village north of Nablus in the occupied West Bank, huddled for an emergency meeting to discuss a new Israeli plan to seize significant parts of their village under the pretext of “developing” its archaeological site, Israeli archaeologists gathered in Boston for the 125th annual conference of the American Society of Overseas Research (ASOR).

Formerly the American School of Oriental Research, ASOR replaced the meaning of the letter “O” in its name in 2021 to ostensibly signal a shift away from archaeology’s colonial legacy and toward research based in equal partnership with local populations. For Israeli archaeologists, however, that shift appears largely cosmetic: As they attended the prestigious conference — their main arena for cultivating ties with the global academic community — their government was busy using archaeology as a tool for continued colonial control over Palestinians.

On Nov. 19, Israel’s Civil Administration announced plans to expropriate 550 of Sebastia’s private plots — approximately 1,800 dunams (450 acres) of land that have been central to the village’s livelihood, cultural heritage, and identity for centuries. Residents say the project will devastate local agriculture, including destroying some 3,000 olive trees, some of which are hundreds of years old.

Sebastia is, undeniably, a multi-layered archaeological site of extraordinary value. Once the Iron Age city of Samaria, capital of the Kingdom of Israel, it contains remnants of King Ahab’s palace that were unearthed in the 1930s. In the first century BCE, King Herod of the Kingdom of Judea rebuilt the city, leaving behind a temple honoring his friend, Roman Emperor Augustus, near the older ruins. A well-preserved Roman theater, Byzantine church, and other antiquities have also been uncovered in the area.

But Sebastia’s archeological significance only sharpens the political contradiction at hand: While the site merits careful study, the gulf between the ethical commitments claimed by Israeli archaeologists and the state violence carried out in archaeology’s name to justify steps toward annexing the West Bank has never been more stark.

Israel’s takeover of Sebastia began in May 2023, when the government allocated NIS 32 million for the site’s “restoration and development.” The campaign escalated in July 2024, when the military seized the summit of Tel Sebastia (the village’s highest point, home to its most significant archaeological remains) citing vague “security concerns.” Soon after, the government signaled plans to take over even more of the village.

Palestinian residents — together with Emek Shaveh, the organization I direct — filed a formal objection with the Civil Administration, arguing that international law prohibits the use of cultural property for military purposes. The challenge was ultimately rejected.

Heritage Minister Amichai Eliyahu celebrated the expropriation online. “We will no longer hand over our inheritance to murderers,” he wrote on X last month. Eliyahu, a prominent advocate of West Bank annexation and Jewish resettlement in Gaza, added: “This is our historic homeland; we will never leave this place.”

Though the area currently targeted for excavation lies technically within Area C (under full Israeli control) and most of Sebastia’s built-up village falls within Area B (under Palestinian civil administration and Israeli security control), in practice the two zones form a single, continuous landscape. The village’s own antiquities are historically and culturally inseparable from those situated in Area C.
