Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has said he will block any European Union solution that finances Ukraine’s military expenditures, accusing Western Europe of treating Russian and Ukrainian lives as being “worth shit” and of prolonging what he described as senseless bloodshed.
In a post on X, Fico said he had held an almost hour-long phone conversation with European Council President António Costa focused on EU funding for Ukraine.
“While he spoke about money for the war in Ukraine, I kept repeating the senseless daily killing of hundreds to thousands of Russians and Ukrainians,” Fico wrote.
“If for Western Europe the life of a Russian or a Ukrainian is worth shit, I do not want to be part of such a Western Europe.”
Fico said he told Costa that Slovakia would not support any measure leading to EU financing of Ukraine’s military costs, regardless of how long negotiations might last. “I told A. Costa that I will not support anything, even if we have to sit in Brussels until the New Year, which would lead to support for Ukraine’s military expenditures,” he wrote.
The post accompanied the publication of a formal letter sent by Fico to Costa and to all EU prime ministers ahead of the next European Council meeting, where the European Commission’s proposals to secure Ukraine’s financial needs for 2026 and 2027, including the possible use of frozen Russian assets, are expected to be discussed.
In the letter, Fico stated that Slovakia would not back any solution that includes funding Ukraine’s military expenses.
“At the upcoming European Council, I am not in the position to support any solution to Ukraine’s financial needs that would include covering Ukraine’s military expenses for the coming years,” he wrote.
Fico argued that there was no military solution to the conflict and that continued arms financing was extending the war.
“The policy of peace that I consistently advocate prevents me from voting in favor of prolonging military conflict, because providing tens of billions of euros for military spending is prolonging the war,” he said.

Estonia accused members of the Koos party of working for Russia
An Estonian court has handed lengthy prison sentences to the leaders of an anti-NATO party convicted of working on behalf of Russia to undermine national security.
On Thursday, the Harju District Court sentenced Aivo Peterson, co-founder of the small conservative Koos party, to 14 years in prison for treason. His associates, Dmitri Rootsi and Andrei Andronov, received sentences of 11 years and 11 years and six months, respectively. All three denied any wrongdoing and said they would appeal the verdict.
Prosecutors alleged that the defendants spread “narratives supporting Russia’s foreign and security policy” intended to undermine public trust in NATO and Estonia’s military aid to Ukraine.
“The defendants deliberately assisted Russia in activities directed against the Estonian state and society,” State Prosecutor Triinu Olev-Aas said.
Founded in 2022, Koos calls for Estonia to leave NATO, become a neutral state, remove foreign troops from its territory, and “refrain from participating directly or indirectly in military conflicts between other countries.”
In 2023, Peterson traveled to Russia’s Donetsk People’s Republic, which Estonia considers occupied Ukrainian territory. He said at the time he was gathering information about the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
“There are two sides to every conflict, but the information we receive from Estonian media is one-sided. All of our journalists support Kiev, which often comes across as propaganda,” Peterson said.
The Koos party rejected the allegations against its members, arguing that the prosecutors failed to present “concrete proof that their actions had caused real damage to Estonia’s constitutional order or security.”
Estonia is one of Ukraine’s top supporters and has been pushing for further militarization of Europe. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova called Estonia “one of the most hostile countries” in June and accused Tallinn of “spreading myths and falsehoods about the supposed threat from the East.”

Top Israeli officials accused the leftist government in Australia of failing to meaningfully confront antisemitism before the deadly terror attack against the Sydney Jewish community in Bondi on Sunday.
Multiple gunmen opened fire at a Hanukkah event at Sydney’s Bondi Beach on Sunday, killing at least 11 and injuring 29, including a Rabbi, a police officer, and an Israeli citizen, in what is being described as a terrorist attack. One of the suspected attackers was reportedly killed during the incident, while the other is said to remain in custody.
One of the shooters has been identified by ABC News as Naveed Akram. Only described as having lived in the multicultural Bonnyrigg suburb of Sydney, police have yet to confirm his nationality, ethnicity, or motive. Police have also not revealed at the time of this reporting whether Akram was the shooter who was killed or if he was taken into custody.
New South Wales Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon implied that one of the gunmen was known to police before the attack, but said that “the person that we know has very, very little knowledge to the police… So he’s not someone that we would have automatically been looking at, at this time.”
Following the attack, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said per the Times of Israel, that he had sent a letter to Australian PM Anthony Albanese in August, accusing the leftist leader of pouring fuel “on this antisemitic fire” by recognising Palestine as a state.
“It encourages the Jew hatred now stalking your streets. Antisemitism is a cancer. It spreads when leaders stay silent; it retreats when leaders act. I call upon you to replace weakness with action, appeasement with resolve,” Netanyahu said that he wrote.
Former Israeli prime minister Naftali Bennett also took aim at the government in Canberra, saying that while the events were tragic, he was “not surprised”.
“The writing was on the wall and we’ve seen a wave of antisemitism in Australia, and we’ve also seen a very feeble response from the Australian leadership,” he said. “We time and again said that this would happen and not much was done. We have to fight antisemitism so this can never happen again.”
Albanese also faced criticism from Bennet for not mentioning Islamism as a motive for the attack on Sunday, saying, “We all know what it is. We all know the Jewish community is under attack.”
“I’m not suggesting that he (Albanese) needs to talk about the particular perpetrators, even though there’s gathering information about them, but there is a context here. And this is very symbolic of the past two years and the weakness and the closing shutting your eyes against evil. Evil happens when good people sit aside and allow evil to happen.”
Similar criticism of Albanese’s statement was also made by U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee, who said: “The disgraceful statement from Australia PM never mentioned it was jihadist attack on Jews on first day of Hanukkah. Hope he’s ashamed of antisemitic statements past year.”
Meanwhile, President Donald Trump told FOX News reporter Peter Doocy that his message to Jewish Americans as they prepare for Hanukkah is “Be proud of who you are – celebrate proudly”.

It’s Antisemitic to Call Out Israel’s Genocide, Says the Guardian
The band Primal Scream had the audacity to tell its audience that the British government is complicit in genocide. They have been reported to the police for doing so
On the matter of “antisemitism”, we are now so far down the rabbit hole that the word no longer need have any reference to “hating Jews”.
Even the supposedly liberal Guardian uses the term unquestioningly to mean “being nasty about Israel” – a state whose genocidal behaviour towards the Palestinian people over the past two years should mean it is almost impossible to say anything too nasty about it.
Take the following absurd headline from the paper: “London venue ‘appalled’ after antisemitic imagery allegedly screened at Primal Scream gig.”
Let’s deconstruct this headline. Notice there are no quote marks around “antisemitic”, meaning the paper takes it as read that the imagery is indeed antisemitic.
There are quote marks around “appalled”, indicating that the London venue, the Roundhouse, is being directly quoted rather than paraphrased. And the word “allegedly” is included throughout the article for legal reasons, and relates to the matter of the screening not the imagery, presumably in case the Roundhouse’s claim that the band Primal Scream displayed the image turns out to be factually incorrect.
So what was this unquestionably “antisemitic” imagery?
The story explains that Primal Scream projected a video on to a screen behind the band during their concert earlier this month in which a swastika merged with a Star of David, the symbol on the Israeli flags flying from tanks in Gaza.
The Guardian uncritically reports: “A spokesperson for the Roundhouse said they were ‘appalled that antisemitic imagery was displayed’ at the venue’,” and that it had apologised to “the wider Jewish community”.
The paper does nothing to distance itself, as it should have done, from this accusation. For example, it could have reported the incident as follows: “A spokesperson for the Roundhouse said it was ‘appalled’ at what it claimed was a display of ‘antisemitic imagery’.”
One can debate whether entwining the swastika with the Star of David is in bad taste, given that Israel chose to turn a Jewish symbol, the Star of David, into its national emblem, on its flag and on its warplanes. Remember, though, that it was Israel that intentionally created this confusion – not Primal Scream, not Israel’s critics.

“The ideal outcome is, I want to continue America’s tradition of free speech and allowing free speech anywhere and everywhere, freedom of expression,” Kaploun said. “But I would like the platforms — because of the advent of AI and those technologies, you have the ability to recognize when something is not factually correct and it should be labeled as such. I think that’s something that we’d like to target.”

Earlier this year, after Trump took office, Meta announced the end of its fact-checking program, and YouTube eased many of its content moderation policies.
“There’s many other areas of working with the companies — the algorithms and things that have been now proven, that bots are busy promoting antisemitic rhetoric on the internet, how we get to some of that and preventing some of that. These are very tall tasks. These are not things that occur overnight,” said Kaploun, a Chabad-trained rabbi and businessman from Miami. “But I truly believe there is a true willingness of many people within the administration to tackle these problems and confront them head on, globally.”
That sounds like a global censorship regime to prevent "anti-Semitic rhetoric."
As an example of the kind of content he would seek to flag as false, Kaploun referred to a July New York Times article about the hunger that many civilians in Gaza were experiencing during Israel’s war against Hamas. The Times published a correction regarding the article several days after it was published, once it was revealed that a child who was featured prominently in the article as an example of malnutrition had preexisting health conditions.
The misrepresentation in the photo could contribute to antisemitism, according to Kaploun, who suggested that the article had been viewed hundreds of times more than the correction.
