Dame Kristin Ann Scott Thomas (born 24 May 1960) is a British actress known for her work in both English and French cinema. She gained international acclaim for her role as Katharine Clifton in The English Patient (1996), which earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress. She won the BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for Four Weddings and a Funeral (1994) and the Olivier Award for Best Actress for her performance in The Seagull (2008).
Born in Redruth, Cornwall, she trained at the Central School of Speech and Drama before studying acting in Paris, where she became fluent in French. She has starred in numerous acclaimed films, including Gosford Park, I've Loved You So Long, Darkest Hour, and Tomb Raider, and on television in Fleabag (earning an Emmy nomination) and Slow Horses.
She was appointed OBE in 2003 and DBE in 2015 for services to drama and was named a Chevalier of the Légion d’honneur in 2005. She has three children and married journalist John Micklethwait in 2024.
