Leonardo DRS Achieves Major Milestone with First Space-Based Test of Next-Generation Secure Data Transport Capability
Dec 16, 2025
Leonardo DRS, Inc. (NASDAQ: DRS) announced today the successful first on-orbit test of its revolutionary multi-channel software-defined radio (SDR) with integrated advanced cryptography.
This milestone marks a significant advance in validating a technology poised to establish a new standard for secure U.S. military satellite data transport at the tactical edge.
The eXtended Crypto Module3-Space (XCM3-Space) adapts the company’s next-generation crypto and multi-channel SDR capabilities to the space domain, addressing emerging cyber and electronic warfare threats to military satellite data transport.
Leveraging deep expertise in multi-domain secure tactical communications, Leonardo DRS developed this capability to enable high-performance secure satellite communications across multiple frequencies and networks simultaneously.
The Department of War has routinely called on its industrial base to invest and innovate at speed. Leonardo DRS has seriously undertaken that charter through increased research and development investment across its business.
This internal investment, which was completed in less than twelve months, also demonstrates the company’s ability to design, build, test and launch unique and operational capabilities rapidly.
The future of space-based data transport in low-earth orbit will require computing and processing at the edge.
This capability will be a key enabler for space-based detection and interception of ballistic and hypersonic missile threats, which will require onboard data encryption and decryption capabilities.
“Secure, flexible satellite data transport is the backbone of modern military operations,” said Larry Ezell, senior vice president and general manager of Leonardo DRS Airborne and Intelligence Systems.
“Our investments in next-generation low Earth orbit SDR provides a decisive leap forward, overcoming the limitations of legacy systems that are rigid and difficult to update once deployed.
With crypto-enabled, fully reprogrammable architecture, this SDR is designed to support current and future secure transport needs for the U.S. Space Force, Space Development Agency, the Missile Defense Agency’s Golden Dome priorities, and other critical all-domain missions.”
Launched aboard a Proteus Mercury satellite in late November, the XCM3-Space testbed operated successfully in Low Earth Orbit (LEO), meeting all primary objectives.
A second system is scheduled for launch in 2026 to demonstrate additional edge processing and waveform capabilities.
Leonardo DRS accelerates delivery of advanced tactical-edge solutions by integrating cutting-edge commercial technologies with proven open-architecture innovations.
Alongside XCM3-Space, the company’s strategic investments in AI and open-architecture edge computing promise to transform the space domain.

UK meets with international coalition to keep space safe
17 December 2025
The Combined Space Operations Initiative (CSpO), a ten-nation space coalition spanning four continents, met in Toulouse, France, to discuss the security of space.
Representatives from Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, Norway, the United Kingdom, and the United States, gathered in France to address space threats, conduct a tabletop exercise, and progress efforts to strengthen resilience and interoperability among likeminded partners and allies.
In an increasingly contested and volatile space environment, CSpO aims to enhance coordination of defence space operations, tackle emerging challenges in space, and advocate for the responsible and lawful use of space.
Major General Paul Tedman, Commander UK Space Command, said:
CSpO provides a unique forum for likeminded space leaders to discuss threats and risks to the domain and agree a collective response.
Therefore, I was delighted to see the Principals commit to improve cooperation, coordination and information sharing in order to enhance deterrence and improve interoperability between the ten nations.
Space services underpin critical aspects of modern life, from global communications and financial systems to military operations and information security.
However, the growing risks, including the potential deployment of nuclear weapons in space, pose significant challenges to global security.
Air Chief Marshal Harv Smyth, Chief of the Air Staff, said:
The Strategic Defence Review recognised that space is critical to the UK’s security and prosperity, and that space threats are proliferating.
As we continue to see our competitors demonstrate the capability and intent to hold the UK’s interests at risk, it is increasingly important that we strengthen our ability to deter hostile behaviour and, if necessary, protect our interests in space.
Gary Martin, Director Operational Policy, said:
Greater resilience and interoperability with partners and allies are key to deterring hostile behaviour and protecting our interests – no nation can do it alone.
CSpO exemplifies the truly global collaboration needed to build understanding, pursue shared objectives, and improve our ability to work together.
The UK remains committed to ensuring space is safe, secure, and sustainable, working with partners and allies to mitigate space threats.
The Ministry of Defence is also working alongside the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office to prevent an arms race in outer space, contributing to global peace and security.
Joint Statement from The Combined Space Operations Initiative Principals’ Board, December 2025
From December 2-4, 2025, the annual Combined Space Operations (CSpO) Initiative Principals’ Board convened in Toulouse, France.
Gathered at the newly inaugurated French Space Command Headquarters, senior space officials from the ten CSpO Initiative nations met to continue building interoperable, agile and resilient architectures, and to reaffirm their determination to protect and defend against intensifying space threats.
Representatives from the ten CSpO Initiative nations shared their concerns regarding the threat posed by increasingly irresponsible and hostile behaviors from some countries.
These actions undermine the stability of the space domain on which our societies rely for economic prosperity and national security.
Further, such actions can create confusion – jeopardizing the safety and security of the space environment – which could lead to escalation due to miscalculation, in space and on Earth.
Facing such challenges, the Principals reiterated their commitment to international law. They restated their roles as responsible actors in preventing conflict, ensuring a stable and viable domain, and opposing activities that threaten operations in, from, to, and through space.
The CSpO Initiative nations will not stand by in the face of increasing space threats. Senior leaders remain committed to improving cooperation, coordination, and information sharing; to building a greater shared understanding of space threats; and to strengthening interoperability to enhance resilience at every level.

SpaceX launches Starlink missions in dual-coast spaceflight doubleheader
December 17, 2025
SpaceX launched two more batches of Starlink satellites today (Dec. 17), in a pair of launches from both U.S. coasts.
First up was a Falcon 9 rocket carrying 29 of the broadband internet relay units (Group 6-99) into low Earth orbit from Launch Complex 39A at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
The satellites were successfully deployed about an hour and five minutes after the 8:42 a.m. EST (1342 GMT) liftoff on Wednesday.
"Deployment of 29 Starlink satellites confirmed," SpaceX reported on social media.
The Florida flight's first stage booster (B1094) completed its sixth flight, landing on the "Just Read the Instructions" droneship stationed in the Atlantic Ocean.
Then came 27 more Starlink satellites (Group 15-13), riding atop a Falcon 9 rocket launched from Space Launch Complex 4 East (SLC-4E) from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California.
Lifting off at 10:27 a.m. EST (1527 GMT or 7:27 a.m. PST local time), the mission was on track to deploy its payload about an hour after leaving the ground.
The California flight's first stage booster (B1063) performed its 30th propulsive landing, touching down on the droneship "Of Course I Still Love You" in the Pacific Ocean.
The 56 (in total) Starlink satellites launched on Wednesday add to SpaceX's megaconstellation, which now numbers more than 9,400 units in orbit.
The network provides access to the internet to areas around the globe where other options for connectivity is sparse, as well as enables in-flight wifi and cell-to-satellite service on select carries.
Wednesday's dual launches were SpaceX's 164th and 165th Falcon 9 flight of the year.

STARCOM leaders outline vital role in forging combat-credible space forces
Dec. 16, 2025
Leaders from Space Training and Readiness Command discussed how the command builds combat credibility for the U.S. Space Force during multiple engagements at the Spacepower Conference Dec. 11–12 in Orlando.
Across panels, fireside chats, and media engagements, STARCOM leaders underscored that combat credibility begins with STARCOM through the development of Guardians and the rigorous validation of the systems they operate before forces are employed in operations.
Combat credibility
Maj. Gen. James E. Smith, commander of STARCOM, and Chief Master Sgt. Karmann-Monique Pogue, command senior enlisted leader of STARCOM, participated in a main-stage fireside chat and later met with members of the media.
Smith and Pogue expanded on how STARCOM turns that responsibility into reality across the force, preparing Guardians and systems to perform together under the conditions they will face in operations.
“Everything we do has to be focused on the Space Force's mission of protecting our nation's interests in, from, and to space, which ultimately drives our ability to achieve space superiority," said Smith.
“We do that by taking equipment from SSC [Space Systems Command], Guardians off the street as civilians, merge all that together, and deliver combat credible Space Forces.”
They explained that combat credibility depends on more than individual skill, requiring integration across STARCOM to prepare forces under realistic conditions.
Building a Guardian-specific Basic Military Training experience
Leaders from Space Delta 1, the STARCOM unit responsible for U.S. Space Force Basic Military Training, explained how BMT continues to evolve as a Guardian-led training program.
Maj. R. Andy Mathews, Delta 1, Detachment 3 commander, and Chief Master Sgt. Brandon Bellmore, the detachment’s senior enlisted leader, described how Guardians now train under Space Force leadership from the day they arrive through graduation at Joint Base San Antonio–Lackland.
They explained that the updated training model emphasizes Guardian identity, teamwork, resiliency, and cognitive agility to meet Department of War requirements for military training.
Leaders noted that BMT establishes shared standards and culture early, preparing Guardians for follow-on technical training and operational assignments.
Education and partnerships across the Guardian lifecycle
Dr. Thomas J. Griffy, deputy commander of Space Delta 13, joined the panel “Academia, Industry, and Military in the Next Generation” to discuss the role of education in force development.
He explained that Delta 13, the STARCOM unit responsible for Space Force education and continuing professional development, works to align education opportunities with operational needs.
He discussed how partnerships with academia and industry help expose Guardians to new perspectives while strengthening technical expertise and critical thinking skills required for modern space operations
Panelists emphasized that continued education supports readiness by helping Guardians adapt as missions, technologies and threats evolve, including in areas such as artificial intelligence.
Education through the National Security Space Institute
Space Delta 13’s National Security Space Institute Commandant Col. Albert Harris spoke during a fireside chat focused on continuing education and professional development.
Harris described how NSSI recently shifted from traditional academic calendars to education cycles aligned with Space Force Generation timelines, allowing Guardians to access education when it is most relevant to upcoming assignments.
“Our vision is delivering readiness, generating combat power,” Harris said. “That means providing the right education at the right time, so Guardians can immediately apply what they learn to real operational challenges.”
Harris also highlighted NSSI’s role in strengthening partnerships through education, noting the institute routinely educates U.S. Guardians alongside international partners to build shared understanding in the space domain.

NATO’s war talk, Oreshnik combat ready, Ukraine’s ‘golden toilets’: Key takeaways from Putin’s Defense Ministry Board meeting
17 Dec, 2025 19:10
Russian President Vladimir Putin and Defense Minister Andrey Belousov delivered a wide-ranging assessment of the Ukraine conflict and Russia’s military posture at an expanded Defense Ministry Board meeting on Wednesday, addressing battlefield developments, new weapons priorities, and what they described as deepening problems in Kiev.
Here are the key takeaways from their remarks:
Russia’s battlefield claims and “strategic initiative”
In 2025, Russian forces have liberated more than 300 populated areas, including major cities and fortified territories, Putin said, noting that the Russian army “has gained and continues to hold the strategic initiative along the entire line of contact.”
Belousov echoed that assessment, saying the army “confidently maintains the strategic initiative” and is conducting “active offensive operations in virtually all directions.” The pace of advance by the ‘East’, ‘Center’ and ‘West’ force groupings has accelerated compared to 2024, he noted
The defense minister also cited the latest battlefield claims, saying Russian forces had taken control of Krasny Liman and Krasnoarmeysk (Pokrovsk), which he described as a “symbol of resistance of both the Ukrainian army and its Western backers.”
He also said that the capture of Kupyansk would expand a “security buffer zone” in Ukraine’s Kharkov Region and reduce the threat of shelling of the Lugansk People’s Republic.
Russian forces had liberated 24 settlements and 400 square kilometers in Russia’s Zaporozhye and Ukraine’s Dnepropetrovsk regions since November, according to Belousov.
Putin also praised North Korean soldiers who have fought alongside Russian forces in the Kursk Region.
Ukraine’s losses and reduced combat capability
Ukraine has lost nearly 500,000 servicemen this year alone, Belousov said, adding that Ukraine’s combat capability had been “reduced by about a third” over the past year, stripping Kiev of the ability to replenish its forces through forced mobilization of civilians.
According to the minister, Ukraine has lost more than 103,000 weapons and pieces of military equipment this year, including about 5,500 of Western manufacture – almost double the total recorded the previous year.
“What was obvious from the start has been confirmed – the collapse of the Ukrainian army’s defenses is inevitable,” Belousov said, stressing that “finally, Kiev’s Western backers understand this clearly.”
Kiev’s deepening crisis and “golden toilets”
Ukraine’s statehood is “unraveling,” Putin said, pointing to massive corruption scandals linked to Vladimir Zelensky’s inner circle and symbolized by “golden toilets.”
The scandal, which has sent shockwaves across the Ukrainian political landscape since kicking off in mid-November, involved Zelensky’s longtime close associate Timur Mindich, who fled the country last month hours before he was due to be arrested for extortion.
Reports also surfaced of a gilded toilet in the businessman’s elite Kiev apartment.
The case drew in multiple other high-profile figures, leading to the downfall of the justice and energy ministers and the dismissal of Zelensky’s enigmatic chief of staff, Andrey Yermak, who was widely regarded as the key figure in the Ukrainian power structure.
The Russian president also emphasized what he described as mass desertions in Ukraine. More than 100,000 criminal cases have been opened in the country, while the number of deserters “runs into the hundreds of thousands,” he said.
1/2
Western “lies” and NATO’s “major war” preparations
Putin dismissed Western claims that Moscow was planning an imminent attack as “lies and nonsense,” saying such statements are being made “quite deliberately” to raise hysteria in Europe.
“I have repeatedly stated that this is a lie, nonsense, pure nonsense about some imaginary Russian threat to European countries,” Putin said.
He accused NATO countries of “preparing for a major war” by building up and modernizing offensive forces, while “brainwashing” their populations with claims that a clash with Russia is inevitable.
Putin said that NATO’s efforts to supply Ukraine with large-scale military aid are “continuing uninterrupted,” adding that NATO countries are “actively building up and modernizing offensive forces, while creating and deploying new types of weapons, including in outer space.”
Belousov said NATO’s actions, including bolstering military spending and force levels, deploying medium-range missile systems, and streamlining logistics for rapid troop movement to Eastern Europe, indicate that preparations for a confrontation with Russia are underway.
“The alliance’s plans have set the early 2030s as the deadline for their readiness for such action… We are not threatening, but we are being threatened,” he said.
NATO is working on a so-called “military Schengen” to speed up transfers of equipment and personnel to Eastern European borders, Belousov stated, adding that the US-led military bloc has increased the range of its nuclear warheads, while its budget is set to grow by more than 1.5 times.
Oreshnik missile systems and deterrence priorities
Russia’s newly developed medium-range Oreshnik missile system will be placed on combat duty before the end of the year, Putin said, naming it as one of the weapons meant to “ensure Russia’s strategic parity, security, and global positions for decades to come.”
He also brought up the unlimited-range Burevestnik cruise missile and the underwater Poseidon drone, saying both have reached development milestones this year. “We will keep working on those systems, tuning and improving them, but we already have them,” Putin said.
Putin said missile systems, drones, and robotics are being delivered to Russian troops “on a continuous basis,” adding that, in 2025, the Navy has received new submarines, as well as 19 surface ships and auxiliary vessels. Improving strategic nuclear forces remains a priority “as before,” the president said, adding that they will continue to play the main role in deterring aggressors and maintaining the global balance of power.
Belousov agreed that ensuring credible deterrence against aggression is a key priority, listing the commissioning of a new Borey-A-class strategic nuclear submarine, the deployment of two additional Tu-160M strategic bombers, and the rearmament of Strategic Missile Troops units with Yars systems as examples of how this is being done.
Russia’s strategic nuclear forces are 92% modernized, the president stated, adding that “there is nothing like this in any other country,” and “there is no other army like this [Russian] in the world – it simply does not exist.”
2/3
Russia’s “full sovereignty” and strategic demands
Putin said Russia has sought diplomatic solutions “as long as there was even the slightest hope of success,” but argued that “those who have convinced themselves that Russia could be spoken to in the language of force are fully responsible for those missed opportunities.”
He said the most important outcome of Moscow’s Special Military Operation is that “Russia has regained the status of a fully sovereign nation and has become sovereign in every sense of the word.”
Putin also said Moscow insists that NATO fulfill the promises it made to Russia not to expand eastward.
“It was publicly stated that there would be no NATO expansion to the East. And what happened? They couldn’t care less – one wave of expansion after another,” he said.
Moscow’s hopes for dialogue
Putin said Russia supports “mutually beneficial and equal cooperation” with the US and European countries, as well as the creation of a unified security system across Eurasia.
He pointed to progress in bilateral talks with Washington, saying he hopes “the same will eventually happen with Europe, but it is unlikely with the current political elites.”
Putin also argued that Russia never became “a full and equal part” of the West after the Soviet Union’s collapse, adding: “Today it turns out there is no civilization there – only total degradation.”
He accused Western countries of deliberately adding fuel to the flames of the Ukraine conflict while ignoring Russia’s interests, warning that if Kiev refuses to engage in substantive talks, Russia will liberate its territories “by military means.”
“It was not us who started the war in 2022. It was destructive forces in Ukraine with Western support – in effect, the West itself unleashed this war. We are only trying to end it, to stop it,” Putin said.

Ukrainian drones strike oil refinery in Russia's Krasnodar region
Dec. 17, 2025 / 8:30 AM
Ukrainian drones attacked a Russian oil refinery in Slavyansk-on-Kuban and other energy infrastructure overnight, blacking out the city and injuring at least two people in the Krasnodar Krai region of southwestern Russia.
Footage circulating online, captured by residents, showed a large fire at the Slavyansk ECO plant and the sound of explosions and air defenses in action.
Authorities said Wednesday that the drone strikes damaged two high-voltage power lines, knocking out the electricity supply to more than 60% of the city's 63,000 population, with more than 13,000 people still without power.
Confirming its forces had targeted the oil plant with "deep strike" weapons, Ukraine's General Staff said it was still assessing the damage inflicted.
The Russian Defense Ministry said air defenses intercepted and shot down 47 Ukrainian drones above Krasnodar Krai and the waters of the Azov and Black Seas.
Two civilians were being treated in the hospital after being injured by debris falling from downed drones in the Slavyansky district and several houses sustained damage, Krasnodar Region operational command said.
It said houses were also damaged in surrounding areas to the north and east of the city.
Neither the defense ministry nor the Krasnodar operational command made any mention of the refinery.
The Slavyansk ECO plant, strategically placed to export into the international market from its location in the Kurban River delta close to Black Sea and Asov Sea oil terminals, refines 4 million tons of oil a year, according to the operating company's website.
A further 47 drones were shot down over Russia's Rostov, Voronezh, Saratov, Volgograd and Bryansk regions, according to Moscow.
Saratov is more than 600 miles from Ukraine, deep inside Russia.
Wednesday's attack came amid a recent widening of offensive operations by Kyiv, targeting both Russia's industrial war machine and high-value military targets in Russian territory.
On Monday, Ukraine's Security Service said it had disabled a Russian Kilo-class submarine using an underwater drone at the Black Sea port of Novorossiysk in Krasnodar Krai, the first time it had successfully carried out such an attack.
Ukraine mounted a large-scale attack against Russian military and oil facilities in occupied Crimea overnight Saturday, striking two oil depots, including one in Simferopol, the capital, and a substation in Dzhankoy, according to Ukrainian military news website, Militarnyi.
A Kasta-2E2 surveillance radar and an S-400 air defense system radar were also hit.
Ukraine Special Operations Forces claimed its drone operators struck a moving train delivering fuel for Russia's armed forces near Yantarne on the peninsula, 35 miles northeast of Simferopol.
Ukraine's General Staff said on social media Sunday that targets in Russia were also hit, including the Afipsky Oil Refinery in Krasnodar Krai, the Uryupinsk oil depot in Volgograd Oblast, a chemical plant in Veliky Novgorodas well as several other energy facilities.
A power station in Smolensk, 220 miles southwest of Moscow, was also set ablaze after being struck by drones.
On Friday, the Slavneft-YANOS oil refinery in Yaroslavl, one of Russia's five largest, northeast of Moscow and more than 630 miles from Ukraine, was struck by drones with locals reporting at least five explosions at the plant.

IDF probing mortar fire targeting Gaza terror activity that reportedly veered off course - source
Updated: DECEMBER 17, 2025 16:09
IDF troops of the 16th Brigade fired mortars to disrupt terror operations on the outskirts of Gaza, a security source said on Wednesday, adding that, however, the fire appeared to have inadvertently deviated four kilometers and hit a vehicle, wounding four people.
The Southern Command has launched an investigation into the incident, the source affirmed.
Earlier, Palestinian media reported that a car had been attacked in the center of Gaza City.
The Qatari state-run outlet Al Jazeera reported the attack was an Israeli airstrike, though the Israeli military has yet to make an official comment.
The report added that 11 people were wounded.
This is a developing story.

US dramatically escalates air strikes on Somalia under Trump this year
17 Dec 2025
The United States has dramatically intensified its military air campaign in Somalia, carrying out 111 strikes against armed groups, also killing civilians, since President Donald Trump returned to office, according to the New America Foundation, which monitors the operations.
In the most recent one, the US Africa Command conducted an air strike on December 14, approximately 50 kilometres (31 miles) northeast of the city of Kismayo, targeting what it said were members of the Somali armed group, al-Shabaab.
The escalation began in February when Trump launched his administration’s first strike in Somalia.
Months later, a senior US Navy admiral said the US had carried out what he said was the “largest air strike in the history of the world” from an aircraft carrier, marking a sharp departure from the previous administration’s approach.
The strike total this year already surpasses the combined number carried out under Presidents George W Bush, Barack Obama and Joe Biden, and it puts Trump on track to potentially exceed even his own first-term record of 219 strikes.
The intensified campaign targets both al-Shabaab, an al-Qaeda affiliate that has fought Somalia’s government since 2007 and controls large areas of the south-central regions, and ISIL (SIS) in Somalia, a smaller offshoot concentrated in the northeast with an estimated 1,500 fighters.
Somalia’s war with armed groups was Africa’s third-deadliest over the last year, killing 7,289 people, according to the US-based Africa Center for Strategic Studies.
The United States has been allied with Somalia’s federal government, training elite forces and conducting air strikes in support of local operations. US troops have also been based in the country.
The surge in strikes follows a directive by US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth that reversed Biden-era restrictions requiring White House approval for strikes outside warzones, giving AFRICOM commanders greater authority to launch attacks.
David Sterman, a senior policy analyst at the New America Foundation, told Al Jazeera there appeared to be “a demand signal from the White House for escalation” and “a willingness to allow more clearly offensive uses of strikes with less scrutiny and regulation”.
Sterman, who has monitored the strikes, identified two main drivers behind the increase.
More than half the strikes have supported a US-backed campaign by Somalia’s autonomous Puntland region against ISIL-Somalia, launched after the group attacked a military convoy in December 2024.
The strikes have shifted from occasionally targeting senior figures to sustained operations aimed at members of the group who have hemmed themselves into the caves in the mountains in northern Somalia, Sterman added.
The remainder focus on al-Shabaab’s advances against Somali government forces in the south, as US strikes support a Somali National Army that has faced setbacks on the ground this year.
The February 1 operation that opened the campaign saw 16 F/A-18 Super Hornets launch from the USS Harry S Truman in the Red Sea, dropping 60 tonnes of munitions on cave complexes in the Golis Mountains.
The strike killed 14 people, according to Africa Command.
Somali civilians under US fire
However, the intensified operations have raised concerns about civilian casualties.
The investigative outlet Drop Site News reported in December that US air strikes and Somali forces killed at least 11 civilians, including seven children, during a November 15 operation in the Lower Jubba region, citing witnesses.
Africa Command confirmed conducting strikes to support Somali troops, but did not respond to Drop Site requests for comment on the civilian deaths.
The US military recently stopped providing civilian casualty assessments in its strike announcements.
According to the military publication Stars and Stripes, the pace of operations now exceeds even the US’s claimed counter-narcotics strikes in the Caribbean.
In the meantime, Trump launched racist verbal attacks earlier this month on Somali immigrants in the US state of Minnesota, as federal authorities prepared to launch a major immigration crackdown targeting hundreds of undocumented Somalis in the state of Minnesota.
His comments have been denounced in several quarters, from Mogadishu to Minneapolis.

Sudan’s de facto leader, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, is ready to work with US President Donald Trump to resolve the conflict splitting his country, the foreign ministry said Tuesday.
The ministry released a statement after the army chief visited Riyadh as a guest of Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who recently presented Trump with a proposed Sudan peace plan during a Washington visit.
According to Sudan’s statement, Burhan hailed Trump’s “determination to engage in efforts to achieve peace and end the war in the country, with the participation of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
“He affirmed Sudan’s keenness to work with President Trump, his secretary of state, and his envoy for peace in Sudan to achieve this unquestionably noble goal,” it said, referring to Marco Rubio and US envoy Massad Boulos.
International peace efforts led by mediators from the United States, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates have been at a standstill since Burhan rejected Boulos’s last suggested framework.
The general accused the mediators of taking sides and notably to have adopted talking points from the UAE, who is accused of arming and supporting his foes in the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
The UAE regularly denies sending weapons, fuel and men to the RSF, despite evidence from independent investigations and international reports.
The RSF says it supports the international ceasefire plan, but heavy fighting continues, notably in the southern region of Kordofan.
For the moment, no new date has been announced for talks, neither under the US-led mediators nor a parallel United Nations’ led effort.
Since April 2023, Sudan has been gripped by a war pitting the army, which controls the north and east of the country, against the RSF, dominant in the west and certain areas of the south.
The conflict has killed tens of thousands of people, uprooted millions and triggered what the UN calls “the world’s worst humanitarian crisis”.

From training to tactic: National Ocean Service harnesses drone potential for oil spill response
December 17, 2025
Oil spills are a race against time and every second matters.
To accelerate the response to oil spills and other disasters, the National Ocean Service’s Office of Response and Restoration has partnered with the U.S. Coast Guard to launch new drones that will serve as a powerful new tool for environmental protection.
The two agencies share a common goal to expand the use of drones as powerful tools for oil spill response, recovery, and restoration, while also improving how data is collected, managed, and delivered.
Experts came together in 2025 to complete hands-on training for both drone piloting and data analysis. Pilots mastered launching and retrieving drones from a moving vessel, refining flying techniques, and testing aircraft capabilities and limitations to capture high-quality imagery and video.
Then, drone pilots tested how quickly the data can move from the air to decision-makers’ hands by executing the near real-time transfer of data while still at sea.
NOAA’s data management software DIVER and online mapping tool ERMA® eliminated the typical delay of waiting for vessels to return to dock or for aircraft pilots to return.
The resulting ERMA maps visually summarized an area and included additional layers showing the locations of known natural oil seeps and offshore platforms, along with satellite imagery data from NOAA Satellites.
The ERMA tool allowed for a direct data comparison, making it possible to identify oil signatures undetectable by the human eye.
The ability to quickly deploy drones for natural disaster response, damage assessments, and other critical tasks can significantly boost operational effectiveness during incidents.
NOAA’s efforts with interagency partners brings the expertise and knowledge needed to successfully execute this collaborative approach to the work.
Combining strong training programs, acquiring cutting-edge technology, and fostering interagency partnerships helps ensure a safe and secure marine environment.
This project is funded by the Great Lakes Oil Spill Center of Expertise and NOAA, in collaboration with the Coastal Response Research Center at the University of New Hampshire, Research Planning Inc., and Water Mapping, LLC.
Teams are now working to develop guidance and training to maximize the potential for commercial, off-the-shelf platforms to be used for marine environmental responses.

Swastika Crop Circle Appears Overnight: What Does it Mean?
December 16, 2025
Crop circles are definitely not a new thing; they’ve been documented since the 1600s! But this might be the first time one has appeared in the shape of a swastika.
Recently, a massive 150- to 180-foot wide crop circle showed up overnight in a field in Wiltshire, located in Southwest England. The thing that really caught everyone’s attention was that it was in the shape most of us are familiar with, a swastika.
The farmer who owns the field was completely shocked to find it. He said he had nothing to do with it and certainly hadn’t given anyone permission to create it.
A local megalithic researcher and ancient mysteries author named Hugh Newman rushed to the scene after spotting it posted on Facebook.
He took a number of photos of the crop circle, and according to Reuters news, he noted the ongoing mystery surrounding these formations:
“The big trouble of the years is who cut these crop circles because sometimes people don’t have a clue how they ended up there.”
The farmer, while not saying much, was clearly concerned about the symbol when he realised what it looked like and the negative meaning it carries today.
The Swastika: Before the Hate
When I first saw this news, I knew I had to share it, but I also wanted to talk about the swastika itself. Just like the farmer, most people instantly think of the Nazis or Hitler when they see or hear the word.
They view the symbol as a sign of hate, and rightly so, given its tragic association with death and destruction after Hitler appropriated it in the 20th century.
However, the symbol is actually ancient. The earliest known swastika was found carved on a mammoth ivory in Ukraine, dating back to around 10,000 BC!
This symbol wasn’t just found in one place; it appeared in ancient civilisations all over the world. You can find it in churches, dishware, graves, and architecture across Europe.
It showed up on Aztec and Mayan burial mounds, clothing, and jewellery. It even had a place in Norse mythology.
The symbol is also deeply connected to Buddhism, where it’s believed to signify the level of a Buddha. Throughout history, people embraced it as a symbol of good luck and purity of heart.
Even the name, swastika (also known as shasa), has an uplifting meaning in Sanskrit, where it originated. SWA means “higher life,” ATI means “being,” and KA is a suffix. It can be understood as a “being with a higher self.”
This positive meaning persisted until the 1930s and 1940s, when the symbol became synonymous with anti-Semitism and far-right extremism.
It’s truly unfortunate that a symbol once associated with eternity and peace is now almost exclusively linked to something evil.
It’s worth noting that there are usually differences between the original symbol and the Nazi design. The Nazis’ version was typically black, with the arms reversed and tipped to a 45-degree angle.
Back to the Crop Circles
Getting back to the crop circles, many people today believe them to be man-made, often as a prank. And yes, some of them certainly are.
But there are many others that are completely unexplainable because the way they are cut and designed seems far too advanced for a simple group of pranksters.

Pentagon Reopens Search for Alleged “Yankee Blue” Memo After Initial Denial
December 15, 2025
A newly released FOIA appellate decision has remanded a case back to the Department of War (DoW) for additional searches related to an alleged 2023 memorandum described by the Wall Street Journal.
According to the newspaper, the Secretary of Defense’s office issued a directive ordering the immediate halt of an Air Force hazing ritual known as “Yankee Blue,” which involved fabricated claims of reverse-engineering non-human technology.
The DoW originally stated that no such memorandum was found, but the appeal has now been granted, and the case remanded for a new search.
An Unverified Claim and a Growing Controversy
In June 2023, the Wall Street Journal published claims that a directive from the Secretary of Defense’s office had been circulated across the military services “ordering the practice to stop immediately.”
The article tied the alleged directive to a hazing ritual in which service members were falsely told that they were working on operations involving retrieved non-human craft.
The WSJ did not publish the memo, identify its specific date, or provide sourcing for the claim. Following publication, no document surfaced publicly, and no military component acknowledged knowledge of the directive.
In September 2025, the DoW stated in a formal FOIA response to The Black Vault that it had located no such memorandum.
On October 1, when asked again about the WSJ claim, Pentagon spokesperson Susan Gough stated, “Regarding the alleged memo: I cannot confirm the existence of any department-level memo as described in the article.
You may want to ask the Air Force or other military services whether they put out such a memo to their personnel.” In the original email, the word “alleged” appeared underlined for emphasis.
The Air Force did not respond after a request for comment, and the FOIA case seeking information on the alleged “Yankee Blue” ritual is still open.
A FOIA Challenge to the Pentagon’s “No Records” Determination
The Black Vault’s FOIA request filed with the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) on June 17, 2025, sought a copy of any directive issued in spring 2023 ordering the halt of “Yankee Blue”-related practices or other activities involving fabricated claims of reverse-engineering non-human technology.
OSD searched solely within the Correspondence Management Division (CMD) and reported no responsive records.
1/2
A formal appeal was filed on September 17, 2025, arguing that the search was inadequate and not legally sufficient under FOIA. The appeal emphasized that:
The Wall Street Journal presented the alleged memo as fact, not speculation, and attributed some related details to DoD spokesperson Susan Gough.
FOIA requires agencies to conduct a search “reasonably calculated to uncover all relevant documents,” as established in Oglesby v. U.S. Dep’t of Army, 920 F.2d 57 (D.C. Cir. 1990).
Limiting the search to CMD failed to meet that standard because a Secretary-level directive could reasonably reside in multiple offices, including policy directorates or the OSD Executive Secretariat.
Agencies must pursue logical leads that emerge during the inquiry, under Campbell v. DOJ, 164 F.3d 20 (D.C. Cir. 1998).
Any such memorandum from 2023 would fall under mandatory federal records retention, and its absence would raise records management concerns.
The appeal requested either a broadened search across all appropriate OSD components or a formal clarification as to whether the directive was ever issued at all.
The Appeal Decision: A Full Remand for New Searches
On December 12, 2025, the Acting Chief of the FOIA Division issued a written decision:
“After carefully considering your appeal, and as a result of discussions between FOID personnel and this office, I am remanding your request to FOID for a search for responsive records.”
The letter states that if any releasable records are found, they will be provided, and that the requester may appeal again should a future adverse determination occur.
The appeal victory does not confirm that the memo exists, will be found, or will be released. The decision establishes only that the prior search was insufficient under FOIA and that a renewed, expanded search is now required.
However, in the broader context, the remand highlights several unresolved inconsistencies:
The WSJ reported a memo as fact, but has not addressed follow-up reporting by The Black Vault, provided a copy of the memorandum, or clarified sourcing.
The DoW stated to The Black Vault in two separate channels through their FOIA office and Public Affairs office, that it could not confirm the memo’s existence, emphasizing the word “alleged” in their response from the latter.
The appeal determination directly contradicts the prior FOIA conclusion that no responsive records existed, ordering a new search despite earlier categorical statements.
The result places the question back with the Pentagon: either locate the memo described by the WSJ, or formally resolve whether it was never issued at all.

Baba Vanga predictions 2026: Earthquakes, wars, alien contact… How accurate were Nostradamus and Baba Vanga’s chilling predictions for this year?
December 17, 2025 8:00 AM IST
As the year 2025 ends, it is time to take a look back at the past and reflect on what has been achieved during this time. What will be remembered about 2025? Well, we will soon know the answer by the end of 2025.
The calendar for 2025 is about to flip to its last page. The final month of the year is drawing near, and in the coming days, we will say goodbye to a year that has had many memorable events.
Now is therefore the time to check which prophecies made by 16th-century Nostradamus and Bulgarian seer Baba Vanga have happened and which ones were false.
Nostradamus and Baba Vanga have predicted major events, including world wars, pandemics, earthquakes, discoveries of extraterrestrial life forms, and the changing of the power structure of the world.
However, were these predictions accurate, or were they only figments of imagination? Let’s find out!
The French mystic Michel de Nostredame, better known as Nostradamus, was a seer who lived between 1503 and 1566; he gained notoriety from his book titled ” Les Prophéties,” published by him in 1555.
Nostradamus predicted many things, including the nuclear bombings of Japan in 1945. Baba Vanga, a blind Bulgarian seer, was born in 1911 and lived until 1996; her predictions continue to have an impact on people today, even many years after her passing.
She is notable for having correctly predicted, foreseeing the 9/11 terrorist attacks and the global spread of COVID-19.
Nostradamus had predicted that in 2025, there would be conflict between the major powers. He also suggested that “the declining influence of established western countries would spawn new global powers.”
Only last week, President Vladimir Putin asserted that he is prepared for conflict with Europe. There are different opinions about whether or not Western Countries are losing their influence, although it’s clear that China is increasing their power through an increasing amount of economic growth.
According to Nostradamus, England would find itself in wars, although this did not occur. As for pandemics, COVID-19 has made a return, though its effects have been relatively contained.
In contrast, Baba Vanga offered predictions in 2025 that created even more sensational headlines.
In her predictions, aliens would make contact, there would be earthquakes around the world, Regarding aliens, she predicted that during a major sporting event, a “new light” would appear in the sky.
However, this particular prophecy about extraterrestrials failed spectacularly. Some people did report sightings of comets, the Northern Lights, or objects from space, but none were confirmed.

'Aliens Among Us': Ex-Officials Break Silence on Decades of Government UFO Secrets
17 December 2025, 1:50 PM GMT
According to a new documentary and a wide-ranging podcast discussion, the U.S. government has recovered unexplained craft, studied non-human technology, and kept even presidents out of the loop, all while telling nothing to the public.
The claims sit at the centre of a new documentary titled 'The Age of Disclosure', produced by Dan Farah and discussed at length on The Chris Cuomo Project podcast.
Cuomo opened the conversation with a stark challenge to viewers, asking whether they knew that answers already exist regarding what is in the sky, whether humanity is alone, and whether advanced technologies have been operating near sensitive military sites for years.
Cuomo said the documentary features 'almost three dozen major players, many of whom are in elected federal office right now', all speaking about what they know and what they are legally allowed to say.
He framed the project not as science fiction but as a transparency issue, saying governments had spent money and resources for decades while 'lying again and again' to the public.
Farah explained that many of those involved had stayed silent for years out of fear. According to him, speaking alone risked careers, reputations, and even personal safety.
By bringing them together, he said he provided them with 'safety in numbers' and a platform to speak without being dismissed as eccentrics.
What The Documentary Claims Was Found
One of the most shocking elements discussed is the claim that the US has recovered technology of non human origin.
Farah said on the podcast that senior officials went on the record stating that recovered craft were not made by humans and that some crashes involved non human bodies.
According to Farah, 'technology of non human origin exists' and has been studied in deeply classified programmes dating back to Roswell and even earlier, during the Second World War.
He said the programmes have operated across multiple countries, including allies and adversaries, creating a hidden global race to reverse engineer advanced technology.
He described objects capable of extreme speeds, defying gravity and travelling seamlessly from space to air to ocean. 'We do not have any aircraft that can do that,' he said.
Why Nuclear Sites Keep Coming Up
A recurring concern raised by both Cuomo and Farah was the presence of unexplained craft near nuclear weapons and military facilities.
Farah said senior officials, including the current US Secretary of State and National Security Adviser, are on camera stating that unknown objects have penetrated restricted airspace over nuclear sites.
Farah called jokes about the issue dangerous and illogical. 'To make jokes about that scenario is just as stupid as making jokes about terrorist threats to commercial airlines,' he said.
The documentary suggests that monitoring of nuclear sites may be linked to concern over humanity's technological progress and its continued willingness to threaten nuclear conflict.
Ending The Stigma And Force Disclosure
Farah said one of his main goals was to destroy the stigma surrounding UFO discussions. He argued that secrecy has flourished because the topic was ridiculed for so long.
According to him, even if only a fraction of these encounters involve foreign adversaries, it would represent 'the biggest intelligence failure in the history of the United States government'.
Cuomo echoed that view, stressing that the issue goes beyond aliens. 'This does not have to mean little green men,' he said. 'It is about transparency in a government that is supposed to be by the people and for the people.'
'Everyone thinks this film is going to move disclosure forward on a very high level,' he said, adding that the president may soon be forced to respond publicly.

🚨A Shocking Loss in Brookline: The Killing of MIT Fusion Scientist Nuno Loureiro
A senior MIT professor, a global leader in plasma physics and fusion research, is dead after being shot inside his Brookline home.
The victim was 47 year old Nuno F. G. Loureiro, director of MIT's Plasma Science and Fusion Center and a professor of nuclear science, engineering, and physics.
He also authored the papers on plasmoids, sentient plasma life.
Police responded Monday night to reports of a shooting on Gibbs Street. Loureiro was found critically injured, transported to a local hospital, and died early Tuesday morning.
Authorities have confirmed the case is being investigated as a homicide. As of now, no suspect is in custody, and no motive has been disclosed.
Loureiro was not just an academic name on a faculty page. He was a central figure in fusion science, shaping research that sits at the crossroads of plasma physics, nuclear engineering, and the long sought goal of controlled fusion energy. MIT confirmed his death Tuesday, calling it a "shocking loss" and offering support to students, colleagues, and family members struggling to process what happened.
His career path was international and elite. He earned his physics degree in Lisbon, completed his PhD at Imperial College London, conducted postdoctoral research at Princeton's Plasma Physics Laboratory and the UK's Culham Centre for Fusion Energy, and later returned to Portugal before joining MIT in 2016. Within less than a decade, he rose to lead one of the most influential fusion research centers in the world.
A neighbor who lived in the same building described hearing gunshots so loud they shook her floor and furniture. She reported hearing a child crying, stepping into the foyer, and seeing Loureiro barely conscious on the ground.
Police arrived within minutes. By the next day, neighbors had placed signs on their doors asking the community to light candles in their windows in his memory.
Those who knew him described a kind, attentive neighbor and a deeply compassionate mentor. Colleagues spoke of his rare ability to combine intellectual rigor with humility and care.
Former Plasma Science and Fusion Center director Dennis Whyte said Loureiro was universally admired, not just for his scientific brilliance, but for how he treated people.
What remains unanswered is the most disturbing part. Why was a leading nuclear and fusion scientist killed in his own home?
Was this a targeted act, a robbery gone wrong, or something else entirely? Law enforcement has released no further details, and the investigation is ongoing.
Until more facts emerge, speculation helps no one. But the silence itself is unsettling. The loss of a scientist working at the frontier of energy and physics is tragic under any circumstances.
The fact that it happened violently, at home, and without answers makes it impossible to ignore.
A candlelight vigil won't bring clarity. An investigation might. For now, a family is grieving, a scientific community is stunned, and a neighborhood is left wondering how something like this could happen on an otherwise quiet street.
More details will matter, accountability will matter and the truth will matter. For now, this is what we know.
@nic_moneypennyThis is the person that authored the whitepaper on plasmoids.
