A.I BRAVE LEO AND BBC FAKE NEWS

Nuno F.G. Loureiro, a 47-year-old Portuguese physicist and professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), was fatally shot in his Brookline, Massachusetts, apartment on Monday, December 15, 2025, and died the following day, Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at a Boston hospital.

Authorities have launched a homicide investigation, but as of Wednesday, December 17, 2025, no suspect has been identified or taken into custody.

Loureiro was the Herman Feshbach Professor of Physics and director of the MIT Plasma Science and Fusion Center, a role he assumed in 2024.

He was a leading researcher in plasma physics and magnetic reconnection, with a career spanning institutions including Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory, the UK Atomic Energy Authority’s Culham Centre for Fusion Energy, and the Instituto de Plasmas e Fusão Nuclear in Lisbon.

Loureiro was recognized with numerous accolades, including the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers in January 2025, the highest honor for young scientists in the U.S..

The incident has prompted widespread mourning, with tributes from MIT leadership, the U.S. ambassador to Portugal, and the Portuguese government.

Police have not released details about a motive or potential suspects, and the investigation remains active and ongoing.

Authorities have intensified their search for clues after a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology was fatally shot at his home near Boston.

Nuno F Gomes Loureiro, 47, a nuclear science and engineering professor from Portugal, was shot "multiple times" on Monday and died on Tuesday morning in hospital, Brookline police and MIT officials said.

No one is in custody and police are treating the incident as "an active and ongoing homicide investigation", the Norfolk County District Attorney's Office said.

Loureiro joined MIT's faculty in 2016 and was named director of MIT's Plasma Science and Fusion Center in 2024.

Officers responded to a call for gunshots at an apartment at about 20:30 local time (01:30 GMT). Loureiro was taken by ambulance to a Boston hospital, where he died on Tuesday morning, police said.

CBS News, the BBC's US media partner, reported that a neighbour said he heard "three loud bangs" Monday evening and thought somebody in the apartment building was kicking in a door.

Eurydice Hirsey, another local resident, told Fox News that she met Loureiro through his wife, Ines, and said the couple had three children ranging in age from elementary school to college.

"We take (dance) classes together several times a week," Hirsey said. "I just saw her last night."

"It's a family that's feeling such raw horror… terror," she said. "And what do you do with something that's indescribable?"

Some of Loureiro's students visited his apartment home on Tuesday afternoon to pay their respects, the Boston Globe reported.

Loureiro majored in Physics at Instituto Superior Técnico in Lisbon in 2000 and obtained a Phd in physics at Imperial College London in 2005, according to his faculty web page.

The theoretical physicist and fusion scientist was known for his award-winning research in magnetised plasma dynamics.

Magnetised plasma dynamics is the study of the state of matter in which the motion of charged particles is influenced by the presence of an external magnetic field, according to Nature.

His research addressed "complex problems lurking at the center of fusion vacuum chambers and at the edges of the universe", according to the university's obituary.

He also studied how to harness clean "fusion power" to combat climate change, CBS said.

"Our deepest sympathies are with his family, students, colleagues, and all those who are grieving," an MIT spokesperson said in a statement provided to the BBC.

The university added that "focused outreach and conversations" are taking place within the MIT community to offer care and support for those who knew the professor.

The centre's preceding director, Dennis Whyte, described Loureiro as both a brilliant scientist and a brilliant person.

"He shone a bright light as a mentor, friend, teacher, colleague and leader, and was universally admired for his articulate, compassionate manner," Mr Whyte told MIT News.

Deepto Chakrabarty, the head of MIT's department of physics, echoed those sentiments and said that Loureiro was a champion of plasma physics and that his recent research was "a particularly exciting new scientific direction".

Note: from what enty said yesterday is that he was inventing a super super quantum computor which would be able to crack encrptions which means that anything which is digital like bitcoin, or other digital currencies will no longer be safe. which they are not already as they are build on blockchain so could be something moar nefarious.

In this episode, General Michael Flynn, speaking at the Indo Pacific Summit in Washington D.C. on December 11, 2025, discusses the concept of “unrestricted warfare,” highlighting threats posed by China, Russia, and their allies through economic, political, and cyber means. He emphasizes China’s global influence, especially its control over major ports and rare earth minerals, and warns of internal U.S. vulnerabilities, including political subversion and educational infiltration. At the summit, Flynn urged cautious alliances, calling for honesty in diplomacy, stronger partnerships, and renewed patriotism. He encouraged Americans to engage locally and uphold foundational values to counter both external and internal threats to democracy and national security.
