Plasmoids are self-contained, donut-shaped (toroidal) or blob-like structures of plasma (ionized gas) wrapped in their own magnetic fields, acting as quasi-independent entities. Found in space (solar flares, magnetosphere) and labs, they're crucial in space physics for energy transport and are studied for fusion power, as they can store vast energy and potentially simplify tokamak designs by confining plasma.

this was the research that the murdered MIT nuclear physicist was working on.

"key line of research in the quest for sustaining nuclear fussion"

very small and can contain vast amounts of energy.

the chap who was murdered was one of the leading experts on this.

It's well known that those who want to own new technology will kill those who develop it and steal the patents.

from Goggle AI

I asked what patents Nuno held

"Thinking

Searching

Nuno Loureiro was a prominent theoretical physicist known for his academic research and computer simulations, but the available information does

not indicate that he held any specific patents. His work was primarily published in peer-reviewed scientific journals as research papers.

Instead of patents, his contributions to the field of plasma science and fusion energy are detailed in numerous key publications and theoretical frameworks:

Turbulence and Magnetic Reconnection: He developed complex mathematical theories and computer codes (such as the Viriato code) to model and predict the behavior of turbulent, high-temperature plasmas.

Fundamental Plasma Dynamics: His research focused on broad, fundamental problems, including the generation and amplification of magnetic fields and confinement in fusion plasmas.

Quantum Computing Applications: He had an active interest in the use of novel computational techniques, including machine learning and quantum computing, to solve plasma physics problems.

His work centered on advancing the theoretical understanding required to bring "clean, near-limitless fusion power closer to reality," which is typically pre-competitive, foundational research within academia and national laboratories, rather than specific patentable inventions.

Google AI also reported about Iranians who were murdered (nuclear scientists)

Iranian Nuclear Scientists (Assassinated in June 2025)

Following a series of targeted airstrikes in Tehran on June 13, 2025, several high-ranking members of Iran's nuclear and defense programs were killed. These individuals were often successors to Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, the "father" of the Iranian nuclear program who was assassinated in 2020.

Fereydoon Abbasi-Davani: A former head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI). His peers in the scientific establishment included current and former AEOI leaders.

Mohammad Mehdi Tehranchi: President of Islamic Azad University and a physicist.

Ahmadreza Zolfaghari Daryani: A former dean of the Faculty of Nuclear Sciences at Shahid Beheshti University.

Other Peers Killed in 2025 Strikes:

Seyed Amir Hossein Feghhi: Deputy of the AEOI and physics expert.

Akbar Motalebizadeh: Expert in chemical engineering and SPND official.

Saeed Barji: Expert in materials engineering.

Seyed Mostafa Sadati Armaki: Professor of nuclear physics specializing in radiation detectors.

Seyed Isar Tabatabaei Ghomsheh: A researcher in nuclear engineering.

the Murder of Nuno might have been revenge against the Jews by Iranians! In their minds they see all Jews as targets. So perhaps they assassinated one of the leading nuclear scientists who was Jewish!

If it were me running the military and NSA I'd immediately get a list of all of the colleagues of Loureiro

and a list of all Jewish Nuclear scientists and I'd up their protection and make sure that those folks do not also get targeted.

the idea that it's the Iranians who murdered the guy seems to me to be the most plausible, but of course we don't know.

interesting post.

are you aware that there are two versions of the 1960s series Star Trek?

when it was released the special effects were replaced and so often if you see it you're not watching the original show but a doctored show with new effects! often in youtube videos people will side-by-side the two versions to show the stark differences.

and I think that the DVD set has the two separate versions and one may choose which one to watch.

you have the folks who pretend to speak for all Jews murdering all the nuclear scientists in Iran and you have to expect some kind of blow back.

Rest in Peace Nuno Loureiro

from what has been said of him I'm sure he clearly didn't deserve what happened to him.

Nor was he the one who decided to target all the Iranian nuclear scientists.

of course we don't know who killed him so . . .

I've been running Linux 1999 or so. At first I would dual boot with a windows install and over time Windows just became a useless legacy.

The biggest suggestion I can make to anyone who is wanting to move to Linux: learn how to partitian harddrives and study what the sizes should be. You might also consider that large file content, like photos and maps and very large picture databases, should have their own partitions.

Learn how to set up the file systems and keep them small enough so that you can easily back them up. But they also need to be large enough so that you can load everything you need onto them.
