Russian President Vladimir Putin improvised a time-capsule message for future generations during his year-end press conference on Friday.
Asked what he would write for schoolchildren studying the history of the present day, Putin said such a message would require time and careful thought, adding that people inevitably think about the future of their children, grandchildren, and country.
He then agreed to try, saying he needed to “put his ducks in a row,” before jokingly adopting a teacher’s tone and telling the audience to “pick up a pen and write.”
“We, who lived in Russia in the endless flow of time, in the 20th and 21st centuries, gratefully accepted everything our ancestors had accomplished. We lived like everyone else, everywhere, and always – with our current concerns.
But we didn’t stand still. We moved forward. We worked, fought, and struggled. And we did our utmost to solve the problems our time posed.
We thought about the future and about you. And if you hold our message in your hands today, it means you still feel part of our shared, endless flow of time.
It means that you, too, feel and understand the connection between the times. This is very important because it means that when we worked, fought, and thought about you, we didn't live in vain and achieved much.
We wish you happiness and good fortune. And we hope that your children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren will be as proud of you as we are of our fathers, grandfathers, and great-grandfathers.”

Orban casts himself and allies as ‘EU Ghostbusters’

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has cast himself and other opponents of the ‘reparations loan’ scheme for Ukraine as ‘EU Ghostbusters’ in a video posted on X on Friday.
In the video, released a day after he and his allies blocked the loan scheme at a Brussels summit, the veteran politician mocked European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and other backers of the plan as ‘ghosts’ that his team saved the EU from.
On Thursday, EU states failed to agree on using $210 billion in frozen Russian central bank assets as collateral for a loan to fund Kiev’s collapsing economy and military.
Despite pressure from von der Leyen and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, the plan was blocked by Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever, Italy’s Giorgia Meloni, Slovakia’s Robert Fico, the Czech Republic’s Andrej Babis, and Orban.
In the video, the Hungarian leader strings together clips of himself and other opponents of the scheme, set to the iconic theme from the 1984 comedy ‘Ghostbusters’.
The montage is interspersed with shots of von der Leyen and Merz, synced to the lyrics: “if there’s something weird and it don’t look good.” Orban’s group appears to the line: “Who you gonna call? Ghostbusters!”
Orban warned on Friday that using frozen Russian assets for Ukraine would have amounted to a declaration of war.
He added that it has become clear that private EU companies hold more assets in Russia than the frozen Russian assets in Europe, meaning the bloc would face heavy losses in the event of retaliation by Moscow.
Russia, which regards any use of its assets as theft, has sued Euroclear over damages from the freeze and vowed to extend the case to the European banks that hold them.
The EU has dismissed the lawsuit as “speculative,” though experts warn that it could damage the bloc’s financial institutions if it expands beyond Russia.
At Russian President Vladimir Putin’s annual end-of-year Q&A session on Friday, he warned Kiev’s Western backers that tapping the frozen assets would backfire, causing reputational damage and undermining the Western financial system, adding that the assets will eventually have to be returned, regardless of “whatever they steal and however they do it.”

US bombs Syria in retaliation for American deaths

The US has launched airstrikes against alleged Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS) targets in Syria in what President Donald Trump described as “very serious retaliation” for the killing of American personnel earlier this month.
In a statement on Friday, Trump said the strikes were ordered in response to a December 13 attack near Palmyra that left two US servicemen and a civilian interpreter dead.
“Because of ISIS’s vicious killing of brave American patriots in Syria… I am hereby announcing that the United States is inflicting very serious retaliation, just as I promised, on the murderous terrorists responsible,” Trump said.
“We are striking very strongly against ISIS strongholds in Syria.”
Secretary of War Pete Hegseth said US forces launched Operation Hawkeye Strike, targeting IS fighters, infrastructure, and weapons sites. The operation, he stressed, was punitive rather than the opening of a wider conflict.
“This is not the beginning of a war – it is a declaration of vengeance,” Hegseth said. “If you target Americans – anywhere in the world – you will spend the rest of your brief, anxious life knowing the United States will hunt you, find you, and ruthlessly kill you.”
US Central Command confirmed that American forces “commenced a large-scale strike against ISIS infrastructure and weapons sites in Syria.” The operation involved fighter jets, attack helicopters, and other military assets.
The Pentagon has not yet released details on the number of targets struck or casualties inflicted, saying battle damage assessments are ongoing.
The strikes follow an ambush near Palmyra in which a lone gunman opened fire on a joint patrol involving US and Syrian government forces.
The attacker was later killed, according to CENTCOM. Washington has blamed IS for the attack and warned that further assaults on American forces would be met with additional military action.
The US military presence in Syria dates back to the Obama administration, which deployed troops without the consent of Damascus under the stated objective of fighting terrorism.
American forces have remained in the country since then, including under Trump, who openly acknowledged during his first term that US troops were staying in Syria to “keep the oil.”
Trump said the new Syrian government was aware of and supported the retaliatory strike, warning that any group threatening Americans would face overwhelming force.

Ukraine Hits Russian Warship in Caspian Sea, Opening New Drone Front

Ukraine’s General Staff said its drones struck “Okhotnik,” a Russian warship patrolling in the Caspian Sea, on Friday night alongside other oil platforms.
Ukraine has no access to the Caspian Sea, whose coastline is shared only by Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, and Iran, meaning any drones would have to traverse those countries’ airspace or be launched from within the Caspian itself, far from Ukraine.
The General Staff said the drones struck the warship, but the extent of the damage remains unclear.
“In order to reduce the enemy’s military and economic potential, on the night of Dec. 19, the Ukrainian Defense Forces successfully hit the Russian warship of project 22460 ‘Okhotnik.’
It was patrolling in the Caspian Sea near an oil and gas production platform,” the update says
“Several Ukrainian drones hit the ship. The extent of damage and the ship’s side number are being clarified.”
It said a drilling platform belonging to Russia’s Lukoil was also hit.
“A drilling platform at the Filanovsky oil and gas field in the Caspian Sea was also hit. The facility belongs to Lukoil.
The platform ensures oil and gas production and is involved in supplying the armed forces of the Russian aggressor,” the update says.
“Its further operational capacity and the extent of the damage are being clarified,” it adds.
The Filanovsky field is one of Russia’s largest discovered offshore deposits, with estimated reserves of 129 million tons of oil and 30 billion cubic meters of gas.
Ukraine did not say whether the attacks were carried out by aerial or maritime drones.
Escalation into the Caspian Sea and beyond
Ukraine has stepped up its drone campaign against Russian oil infrastructure in recent weeks, extending its reach beyond the Black Sea and targeting vessels that had previously been avoided.
By mid-December, drones operated by Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) had struck Russian oil production platforms in the Caspian Sea for the third time in a week, with the Dec. 15 attack targeting a platform run by Lukoil-Nizhnevolzhskneft at the Korchagin oil and gas condensate field.
Previously, the drones targeted the Filanovsky and Korchagin fields, with the Filanovsky field also the target in the latest strike on Friday night.
Ukraine has also begun striking sanctions-evading “shadow fleet” tankers ferrying Russian oil in recent weeks.
On Friday, SBU sources told Kyiv Post it struck an oil tanker in neutral waters of the Mediterranean Sea, more than 2,000 kilometers (1,243 miles) from Ukraine.
The source said the tanker was used by Russia to evade sanctions and finance the war against Ukraine, thus making it “an absolutely legitimate target” under international law.
On Nov. 28, two tankers sailing under the Gambian flag – Kairos and Virat – were attacked near the Bosphorus. The SBU later said both ships were disabled by its Sea Baby maritime drones.
On Dec. 1, the tanker Mersin sustained damage off the coast of Senegal, after which its Turkish owner announced it would halt operations involving Russia. A day later, on Dec. 2, the tanker Midvolga-2 was struck near the Turkish coast.
On Dec. 10, Ukrainian forces also hit the tanker Dashan, described as part of Russia’s “shadow fleet,” in the Black Sea.

Türkiye detects another Russian spy drone, third in a week

A Russian reconnaissance drone Merlin-VR was discovered in Türkiye. This is already the third case this week, according to Clash Report.
According to the report, farmers in the Salur neighborhood, Manyas district of Balıkesir province, today reported another drone found in a field.
Gendarmerie units secured the site and transported the drone to Ankara for a detailed technical inspection.
Officials emphasized that ownership and origin remain undetermined, and that Russian origin is only one of the possibilities being considered.
No casualties or property damage were reported, as the drone landed in an unpopulated area.
Russian drones in Türkiye
As a reminder, on December 15, Türkiye destroyed an unmanned aerial vehicle approaching its airspace from the Black Sea. The incident was reported by the country’s Ministry of Defense.
According to the ministry, the object was identified as a drone that had lost control. To prevent possible risks and threats, Turkish forces decided to neutralize it.
The drone was shot down by F-16 fighter jets in a safe area, outside populated locations. The Ministry of Defense emphasized that the operation was carried out with measures to minimize potential consequences.
Yesterday, December 19, a Russian reconnaissance drone crashed in Türkiye. It was found in a rural area, specifically in the Izmit district.
According to preliminary information, it was a Russian reconnaissance drone Orlan. These drones are used for intelligence purposes and do not carry explosives.

5 said killed in Gaza City strike; IDF says it’s investigating, regrets any civilian harm

The Israel Defense Forces said Friday it was investigating a strike in Gaza City, which reportedly killed at least five people, including civilians.
According to the military, during operations on the Israeli side of the ceasefire line in the Strip’s north, troops spotted several suspects in “dominant structures” on the western side of the Yellow Line — meaning not in IDF-held territory.
The army said the troops fired at the suspects following their identification, but didn’t say that they were armed or how they posed a threat.
Gaza’s Hamas-run civil defense agency said it recovered five bodies killed in an artillery strike at a school-turned-shelter in Gaza City’s eastern Tuffah neighborhood.
The agency said the majority of the victims were children and that others were injured. The deaths could not be independently verified.
Spokesman for the agency, Mahmud Bassal, accused by Israel of being a Hamas operative, said that “five martyrs have been recovered as a result of the Israeli shelling of the shelter at the Gaza Martyrs School,” in the Tuffah neighborhood east of Gaza City.
The IDF said that it was “aware of casualties in the area,” noting that the incident was under further investigation.
“The IDF regrets any harm to uninvolved [civilians] and acts as much as possible to minimize harm to them,” the military added.
The Israeli strike could amount to a violation of the US-brokered ceasefire agreement that went into effect in October.
The ceasefire remains fragile with both sides alleging violations, and mediators fearing that Israel and Hamas alike are stalling.
US President Donald Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, met officials from Qatar, Egypt and Turkey in Florida on Friday, hoping to salvage efforts to reach the second stage of the deal.
“Our people expect these talks to result in an agreement to put an end to ongoing Israeli lawlessness, halt all violations and compel the occupation to abide by the Sharm El-Sheikh agreement,” Hamas political bureau member Bassem Naim told AFP.
The Hamas-run Gaza health ministry said on Thursday that at least 395 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli fire in the territory since the ceasefire came into effect on October 10.
However, the toll cannot be verified and does not differentiate between civilians and fighters. Israel has also repeatedly accused Hamas of violating the ceasefire, with three soldiers killed in Gaza since the truce entered into force.

It's not just Santa people should be looking out for next week as experts say you're more likely to see an 'alien' over Christmas.
In December, the UFO Reporting Centre see a huge surge in UFO sightings with a massive spike on Christmas Day.
Christian Stepien, technical director at the centre in America said the reason for the increased reporting could be due to festive firework and light displays.
Ron James from the Mutual UFO Network told The Daily Beast: 'We do have a slight uptick twice a year in the summer and around the holidays.
'There are a few reasons why people might be paying more attention: they might be off work, they're doing family activities and things they don't normally do, so there are more possibilities for people to encounter things.
Then, of course, there's always Santa Claus and the reindeer.
'If there is an uptick, I can understand that because there's a lot of people out during time shopping and doing things.
'They might be looking up in the air so I can understand it if there is.'
In 2021, there were a whopping 75 sightings reported on December 25.
Accounts of UFOs peaking during the festive period go all the way back to Christmas 1965.
Astronaut Wally Schirra Jr. was aboard Gemini 6 when he spotted an usual 'object'.
At the time, he stated: 'We have an object, looks like a satellite going from north to south, probably in polar orbit. Looks like he might be going to re-enter soon.You just might let me pick up that thing.'
Adding to his report, fellow astronaut Thomas Stafford noted: 'I see a command module and eight smaller modules in front. The pilot of the command module is wearing a red suit.'
Mission control was sent into hysteria until Wally began to play Jingle Bells on the harmonica and revealed it was all a joke.

The “Alamogordo Non-Human Entity” and the 1964 Holloman AFB Alien Encounter: Fact, Fiction, or Enduring UFO Legend?

Alamogordo, NM — December 19, 2025 — Tucked in the high desert near the White Sands Missile Range, Holloman Air Force Base has long been a hotspot for UFO lore but much more subtle than in Roswell.
One of the most persistent stories claims that in 1964, a dramatic “close encounter of the third kind” unfolded right on the base’s tarmac: three disc-shaped craft descended, one landed, and non-human entities stepped out to meet stunned Air Force and CIA personnel.
This tale—referred to in military lore as the “Alamogordo Non-Human Entity Incident.” The incident, whatever actually occurred, has fueled decades of speculation, with some even linking it to Steven Spielberg’s Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977) as a loosely inspired retelling.
The Core Allegation
According to the legend told by some stationed at Alamogordo’s military installations, sometime in April or May 1964 (dates vary in accounts), radar at Holloman tracked a highly classified incident resulting in three unidentified objects approaching the base.
One craft appeared to wobble or struggle before landing in the sands. A ramp extended, and a “nonhuman entity”—emerged.
They allegedly carried a device resembling a translator, military staff interacted with the entities, and base command officers in a pre-arranged meeting exchanged primates.
The encounter was reportedly filmed on 16mm by military cameras, with footage allegedly shown to select insiders and remains highly classified.
The story was recently recounted by James Fox on a 2023 episode of the Julian Dorey podcast. He said the government definitely has footage of it.
The story gained traction in the 1970s through filmmaker Robert Emenegger, who claimed in his documentary UFOs: Past, Present, and Future (1974, re-released as UFOs: It Has Begun) that the Department of Defense promised him authentic footage of a 1964 Holloman landing for the film.
He was told to portray it as hypothetical after the promise fell through—possibly due to political reasons like Watergate. Emenegger later said he viewed the film, describing three beings exiting the craft and others reported the monkey exchange.
More recently, a 2025 Amazon Prime documentary, The Age of Disclosure, revived the claim via astrophysicist Eric Davis (former Pentagon AATIP advisor).
Davis alleged that former President George H.W. Bush, in a 2003 private conversation, confirmed hearing about the event: “three craft approached, one landed, and a “non-human entity” interacted with personnel. Bush reportedly learned of it after leaving office.
The “Primate Farm” Connection
Some versions tie the incident to the “Alamogordo Prinate Farm” or primate research facility in Alamogordo and with research done at Holloman in the 1960s also via NASA, allegedly used to prepare for “interactive contact.”
This part of the story leading to its credibility by some stems from Holloman’s real history: The base hosted chimpanzee and monkey experiments in the 1950s–1960s for space program testing (e.g., Project Mercury precursors).
Some of the chimpanzees remained on Holloman until this year when the final ones were placed in a sanctuary.
Conspiracy theorists speculate this chimpanzee farm was cover for preparing to interact with non-human alien entities and space travel research, but no credible evidence supports a direct link to aliens that has been released, as of yet.
Some speculate this is nothing more than a conspiracy.

However, Vice President JD Vance during a press interaction in Pennsylvania, responding to White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles calling him a “conspiracy theorist for a decade” in a Vanity Fair interview, Vance said:
“Sometimes I am a conspiracy theorist, but I only believe in the conspiracy theories that are true.”
Vice President JD Vance has publicly expressed fascination with UFOs (now called Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena or UAPs) and extraterrestrial possibilities, but he frames them through a spiritual/religious lens rather than pure sci-fi or government cover-up conspiracies.
He has described himself as a “mad UFO lunatic” and admitted being “obsessed” with the topic, promising to investigate classified files.
However, there’s no evidence he has commented on or endorsed the specific 1964 Holloman AFB alien encounter, as of yet.
Vance’s Stated Beliefs on UFOs and Extraterrestrials
In multiple interviews (e.g., on the Ruthless Podcast in August 2025 and Pod Force One with Miranda Devine in October 2025), Vance said he’s deeply interested in UFOs and plans to “get to the bottom” of them using his access to classified information.

Pilot told 'good luck with the aliens' after reporting a silver canister-shaped object during live ATC broadcast

The pilot of a private jet was left stunned after spotting a small, silver cylinder hovering near his wing thousands of feet above Rhode Island.
A newly released video of the live air traffic control (ATC) broadcast captures the tense moment, with the pilot telling the ground team, 'It appears to be standing still,' as the mysterious object floated beside him.
The object hovered near the wing tip, briefly pacing the aircraft, before drifting out of view.
ATC confirmed there were no other reports in the area and asked whether the object could have been a drone or a balloon.
Flying a Piper PA-32RT-300T Turbo Lance II, which seats up to five passengers, the pilot said he could see no attachments on the object and described it as 'astonishing' while maintaining an altitude of roughly 3,500 feet.
Other pilots in the region chimed in over the radio, with one remarking, 'I want to believe him,' while ATC joked, 'Good luck with the aliens.'
No official FAA or NTSB report has been made public, a common occurrence for unexplained aerial phenomena unless they pose a direct hazard.
The video was uploaded to the YouTube channel VASAviation, run by a corporate pilot and certified flight instructor from Spain, which regularly posts ATC frequency conversations.
The clip, which has been viewed more than 14,000 times, was posted about a month ago, indicating that the sighting likely occurred around that time.
Recently, the broadcast made its way to social media, appearing on X this week, where it has quickly gone viral.
While the pilot did not believe the object was a balloon, some experts offered alternative explanations.
Mick West, a British-American science writer and conspiracy theory investigator, suggested that a weather balloon was the most plausible scenario.
Other social media users speculated that it could have been a military test of new technology.
'UFOs are a brilliant cover,' one X user commented, while another questioned, 'Do you think they'd really test it on a commercial flight?'
Michael Harrison added, 'Truthfully? Yeah, I do. It also has the benefit of keeping the UFO narrative fresh.'
Aviation enthusiast Anthony Dohrmann, founder and CEO of AI-powered virtual caregiver company Electronic Caregiver, offered a more grounded perspective.

He suggested that the object could have been a weather balloon, which are often launched at night and carry cylindrical payloads.
'[They] have a kind of translucent material that can reflect city lights or catch sunlight higher up, making it hard to judge their true altitude,' Dohrmann explained.
He added that such balloons can appear to hover or rise slowly, sometimes at about 1,000 feet per minute, and noted that many are launched in nearby Massachusetts.
Dohrmann also pointed out that amateur hobbyists frequently experiment with balloons and other small devices at lower altitudes.
'They're supposed to go in a certain direction, but things don't always work like they're supposed to,' he said.
The broadcast incident comes just months after a veteran US fighter pilot broke his silence about a near-collision with a UFO that defied the laws of physics and left the Air Force in stunned disbelief.
Major Ryan Bodenheimer, a retired F-15 and F-16 combat pilot, revealed in a YouTube video that one of the 'wildest experiences' of his career involved a close encounter with a rectangle-shaped UFO as he flew with his squadron over southern Wyoming.
Bodenheimer, who served in the Air Force for 13 years, said the large craft suddenly appeared out of nowhere during a training mission and looked to be on a collision course with his plane.
'Then I realized we weren't going to hit, and all of a sudden it came more into view, and it was a rectangular shape. This was like essentially a perfect rectangle,' Bodenheimer revealed in his video on June 8.
The military veteran described the UFO as being 30 to 50 feet in height and appearing to be glowing around the edges of its bright white body as it flew alongside the Thunderbirds, the Air Force's elite aerobatic demonstration squadron.
Bodenheimer added that this craft had no visible vapor trail coming from an engine, no radar signal, and was traveling at approximately 400 knots (460 miles per hour).
'It really was defying any type of aeronautical laws that I've learned,' Bodenheimer said.
Bodenheimer then revealed that his report to air traffic control left officials in 'dead silence' before the entire matter was apparently dismissed as an 'anomalous object.'
The strange rectangle UFO got so close to Bodenheimer's F-16 Falcon at 30,000 feet in the air that he said he could make out every detail of the craft before it eventually flew off and was never seen again.
When air traffic controllers in Denver asked Bodenheimer if he could give them any more details about the UFO, he revealed that it had a cream-colored interior that became transparent or had a hole in its center.
'I know it sounds like I'm talking about a delicious pastry, but this was the wildest experience I've ever had,' the fighter pilot joked.
The only evidence of Bodenheimer's sighting was a report made by air traffic control saying that an object had been spotted in the area where the Thunderbirds were training that day, but he never heard from anyone about the incident again.
