the templars supposedly brought the game of chess to europe, i feel like its too Queen-centric and would benefit from the King and Queen swapping powers on the board …

this would absolutely make a cool app, and the game would flow—just very differently from vanilla chess

Why it works as a game

King as a powerful, risky hero piece that can RESURRECT.

Queen as the protected nation/flag whose capture ends the game.

Losing your king is scary but not final; you get “hope moments” where a pawn sprint could bring him back.

flow:

Early game:

The king is a long‑range monster; players will use him aggressively, but they still have to worry about the queen’s safety.

The queen mostly anchors defense, shuffling a square or two to avoid tactics.

Mid/late game:

If the king dies, the focus shifts to: “Can I escort a pawn up the board before my opponent hunts my queen?”

Endgames won’t feel like technical chess; they’ll feel more like a race/assassination puzzle around the queen and promotion square.
