Federal government hires UK contractor to study Canadians’ views on sending their money abroad

https://www.rebelnews.com/federal_government_hires_uk_contractor_to_study_canadians_views_on_sending_their_money_abroad

The contract comes as Canadians face rising costs of living at home, while the federal government continues to funnel billions into international assistance, development programs, and global initiatives.

The federal government has hired a UK-based contractor to find out what Canadians think about Ottawa sending Canadian tax dollars to other countries.

According to a newly published contract award notice, Global Affairs Canada awarded a $62,500 non-competitive contract for a “Syndicated Research Study – Canadian Views on International Assistance” to Jennifer Hudson, whose listed business address is in London, England.

In other words, Ottawa is paying someone overseas to ask Canadians how they feel about Ottawa spending money overseas.

The contract was awarded on January 20, 2026, runs through July 31, 2026, and covers polling and public opinion research on Canada’s foreign aid programs. The procurement was conducted as a directed, non-competitive contract, with the government citing “exclusive rights” as the reason no other bids were considered.

While the research is supposedly about Canadian attitudes, the work itself is being handled outside the country by a contractor with no Canadian address listed in the procurement documents.

The contract comes as Canadians face rising costs of living at home, while the federal government continues to funnel billions into international assistance, development programs, and global initiatives.

Apparently, when Ottawa wants to know what Canadians think about that, the answer must first pass through London.

CBC goes furniture shopping, demands 'intelligent' desks to meet evolving environmental vision

https://www.rebelnews.com/cbc_goes_furniture_shopping_demands_intelligent_desks_to_meet_evolving_environmental_vision

The contract covers corporate office furniture for both CBC and Radio-Canada and forms part of a broader push to align CBC workplaces with federal sustainability and climate objectives.

While Canadians tighten their belts, CBC/Radio-Canada is shopping for a brand-new lineup of “intelligent,” “continuously evolving,” and environmentally virtuous office furniture — on the public dime.

According to a newly posted procurement notice, the Crown broadcaster is seeking suppliers to supply, deliver, and install corporate office furniture across its national portfolio of buildings. But this isn’t just about desks and chairs.

CBC says successful vendors must help implement the Corporation’s Workplace Strategy and its environmental commitments, with a “core objective” of selecting sustainable products from manufacturers who integrate environmental stewardship into everything they sell.

The winning supplier will be expected not only to furnish CBC offices nationwide, but also to support the development of an “intelligent, affordable and continuously evolving range of furniture products.” What exactly makes a desk intelligent — or how often a chair must evolve — is not specified.

The solicitation emphasizes that manufacturers must be well established in the Canadian market, suggesting CBC wants domestic suppliers.

The broadcaster continues to cut programming, lay off staff, and plead poverty while receiving nearly $1 billion annually in taxpayer funding.

The contract covers corporate office furniture for both CBC and Radio-Canada and forms part of a broader push to align CBC workplaces with federal sustainability and climate objectives.

For an organization that routinely claims it is underfunded and under threat, CBC appears confident there’s still room in the budget for eco-conscious, values-aligned furniture, ideally furniture that thinks, adapts, and possibly votes the right way too.

'INDIAN TRUCKS KILL CANUCKS': Nationalist group protests Canada’s trucking safety crisis

https://www.westernstandard.news/news/indian-trucks-kill-canucks-nationalist-group-protests-canadas-trucking-safety-crisis/70582

Nationalist group Second Sons of Canada has caused a stir online after the organization posted a photo from a demonstration it held on an Ontario overpass to protest road deaths caused by what they allege are Indian truck drivers.

Around 40 members from the group held a black banner saying, “Indian trucks kill Canucks,” on an overpass in Orillia, Ontario, on Saturday.

The group spoke out about the protest on its social media accounts, saying it was trying to “raise awareness” about a growing problem on Canadian highways.

“Canadians are being killed and maimed in record numbers in transport truck collisions. This is not random; it is a direct result of a foreign diaspora population that has no regard for our standards or values,” Second Sons wrote.

“Fraudulent licensing schemes, subpar training programs, and shoddy business practices have resulted in completely preventable deaths at the hands of Indian invaders.

“The solution is simple: Remigration Now.”

The protest comes as, earlier this month, truck driver Rajwinder Singh was sentenced to just 55 days in jail for careless driving, causing the 2024 death of a 23-year-old Bolton, Ontario, woman, Adrianna Milena McCauley. Continue…

Pakistani cop who was set to be deported for 'crimes against humanity' gets another shot to retain Canadian refugee status

https://www.westernstandard.news/news/pakistani-cop-who-was-set-to-be-deported-for-crimes-against-humanity-gets-another-shot-to-retain-canadian-refugee-status/70589

The Federal Court of Canada judge has given a former head constable in Pakistans notorious Punjab Police Service (PPS) another chance to remain in Canada under a refugee status after he had previously been set to be deported.

Munir Ahmad Malhi came to Canada in 2020 alongside his wife and sought protection and refugee status due to his Ahmadiyya faith, which, due to persecution of members of that faith in Pakistan, allowed him and his wife to be granted refugee status.

His former employer, the PPS, is notorious, not only being considered "the most corrupt police department in the province" but also having a long-standing reputation of torture, rape, revenge arrests, and killing of civilians.

Canada's Immigration Minister at the time appealed the granting of refugee status due to Malhi's ties to the PPS. It was argued that Malhi "is excluded from refugee protection because he served with the PPS, which has committed crimes against humanity." Continue…

BC Anti-Extortion Chief Apologizes for Disputing ‘Crisis’ After Premier’s Rebuke

The leader of British Columbia’s anti-extortion task force has apologized for hurting “public confidence” after Premier David Eby called for his resignation if he couldn’t convey the appropriate urgency to address a surge of blackmail-related shootings across the Lower Mainland.

RCMP Assistant Commissioner John Brewer said in a Jan. 21 media statement that he did not intend to make the public doubt the force’s dedication to the task when he repeatedly questioned the use of the term “crisis” during a press conference held the day before to describe the ongoing shootings in Surrey.

During a Jan. 20 press conference, Brewer had said the RCMP is treating the threat to public safety seriously, but added that “we tend to inflate the word crisis.”

His suggestion that the ongoing incidents targeting members of the South Asian community did not constitute a crisis led Eby to say on Jan. 21 that Brewer needed to clarify his “puzzling” remarks or resign as the head of the BC Extortion Task Force.

Brewer issued his apology shortly after Eby’s comments. Continue…

Ontario Premier Calls for Boycott of Chinese EVs After Ottawa’s Beijing Deal

Ontario Premier Doug Ford said Canadians should boycott Chinese-made electric vehicles (EV) after Prime Minister Mark Carney struck a deal with Beijing to allow 49,000 vehicles to enter Canada at a lower tariff rate.

“Boycott the Chinese EV vehicles. Support companies that are building vehicles here. It’s as simple as that. This is a Team Canada approach,” Ford told reporters during a press conference in Toronto on Jan. 21.

Ford said Canadians choosing to buy Chinese EVs may be doing so at the cost of Canadian automotive jobs. When asked by a reporter if he would be open to tabling legislation to protect Ontario’s EV industry, Ford said “everything is on the table,” and that he wanted to support the sector and auto workers.

Ford made the comments while flanked by representatives from the Canadian Vehicle Manufacturers’ Association, Automotive Parts Manufacturers’ Association, and National Unifor, who said Ottawa’s deal with China would harm the province’s auto industry. Continue…

Carney Stresses Unity, Canadian Strength, Progressive Values in Address to Nation

https://www.theepochtimes.com/world/carney-stresses-unity-canadian-strength-progressive-values-in-address-to-nation-5974982?ea_src=ca-frontpage&ea_med=lead-story-0

Prime Minister Mark Carney emphasized national unity while responding to U.S. President Donald Trump in an address to the nation on Jan. 22.

Carney made the comments during the Liberal cabinet retreat in Quebec City, just a day after returning from the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, where he urged countries and companies not to comply with unspecified “great powers” that he said are using “coercion” and seeking to use economic integration and tariffs as leverage.

Carney said Canada needs to be a “bastion of security and prosperity” and defend its sovereignty and borders. He also said the country needs to be a “beacon” in a time of “rising populism and ethnic nationalism.”

“In a time of rising walls and thickening borders, we can demonstrate how a country can be both open and secure, welcoming and strong, principled and powerful,” he said.

Stressing the importance of unity, Carney said unity “does not necessarily require uniformity,” adding that “we can share a country without conforming to a single identity.” Continue…

TikTok Canada gets a reprieve and a new review instead of a ban

https://nationalpost.com/news/canada/tiktok-canada-gets-a-reprieve-and-a-new-review-instead-of-a-ban

In November 2024, Canada ordered ByteDance Ltd. to close its subsidiary TikTok Technology Canada Inc. But on Wednesday, that order was set aside by the Federal Court

TikTok will be able to continue operating its subsidiary in Canada for now, after a judge shelved a previous order for it to wind down — with the government’s apparent blessing.

In November 2024, under former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Canada ordered ByteDance Ltd. to close its subsidiary TikTok Technology Canada Inc. But on Wednesday, that order was set aside by the Federal Court.

The decision came after a motion made by Canada’s government in TikTok’s appeal, with the court “noting the consent of the parties.”

The judge sent the matter back to Canada’s Industry Minister Melanie Joly “to undertake a new further review” under the Investment Canada Act.

The previous order followed a national security review with evidence and advice from Canada’s security and intelligence agencies, but did not ban the app, merely the company’s business operations in Canada.

A TikTok spokesperson welcomed the decision, and said the company looks forward “to working with the minister towards a resolution,” adding that the app has more than 14 million users in the country. That’s about one-third of the population.

“Keeping TikTok’s Canadian team in place will enable a path forward that continues to support millions of dollars of investment in Canada and hundreds of local jobs.”

University of Ottawa law professor Michael Geist said in a post on X that the move means the government has hit the “reset button” on the pre-existing ban.

This so-called reset comes days after Prime Minister Mark Carney was the first Canadian leader in more than eight years to visit China, where he announced a detente on tariffs and trade with President Xi Jinping.

Canada’s Innovation, Science and Economic Development department didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
