Spoke with @SecRubio early this morning, and it’s clear the strikes against and capture of narco-terrorist Nicolás Maduro were done with a level of professionalism and precision that sends a message to the world: @POTUS is a man of his word, and the United States will not tolerate terrorists. Maduro was indicted in a U.S. Court and was told to stop sending drugs into our country to kill our kids and grandkids, but he refused. This is peace through strength on full display. Today’s military action in Venezuela was a decisive and justified operation that will protect American lives.

Nicolas Maduro is responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Americans after years of trafficking illegal drugs and violent cartel members into our country — crimes for which he’s been properly indicted in U.S. courts and an arrest warrant duly issued — and today he learned what accountability looks like.

President Trump is putting American lives first, succeeding where others have failed, and under his leadership the United States will no longer allow criminal regimes to profit from wreaking havoc and destruction on our country.

The Trump Administration is working to schedule briefings for Members as Congress returns to Washington next week.

I have spoken with Secretary of State Marco Rubio and our Ambassador in Caracas. The EU is closely monitoring the situation in Venezuela.

The EU has repeatedly stated that Mr Maduro lacks legitimacy and has defended a peaceful transition. Under all circumstances, the principles of international law and the UN Charter must be respected. We call for restraint.

The safety of EU citizens in the country is our top priority.

WHO ARE THE “NIGHT STALKERS” REPORTEDLY OPERATING IN VENEZUELA?

The 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (SOAR) is an elite U.S. Army aviation unit created to support special operations forces in the most hostile environments.

Known as the “Night Stalkers,” the regiment specializes in:

• Night and low visibility operations

• Low altitude, aggressive flying Insertion and extraction of special forces

• Attack and reconnaissance support

Their crews are trained to operate where conventional aviation units cannot, relying on stealth, precision, and speed. The tactics associated with the 160th SOAR, nighttime flights, terrain hugging approaches, and rapid strike support, closely resemble what is being reported in Venezuela.

This background explains why the unit’s name is now being widely mentioned in connection with today’s unfolding events.

Article II, Section 2 of the U.S. Constitution grants the President the power to oversee military actions, including the authority to authorize strikes.

Obama dropped 26,000 bombs with zero War Powers Act outcry. Trump strikes Venezuela, and Democrats scream “War Powers!”

Maduro wouldn’t quit poisoning the U.S. and killing Americans, so Trump rolled up with a full armada, wiped out their defenses, and sent in special ops to grab him and haul him back to the States.

That’s peak gangster energy.
