DOJ: Maduro Used Diplomatic Planes to Move Drug Proceeds from Mexico to Venezuela
According to U.S. prosecutors, between 2006 and 2008, when he was the minister of foreign affairs, Nicolas Maduro sold diplomatic passports to various drug traffickers to allow them to move drug proceeds from Mexico into Venezuela under diplomatic cover. Maduro would also provide diplomatic immunity to private airplanes used by drug traffickers to be able to fly between the two countries without scrutiny from law enforcement and military officials. The planes were not carrying diplomatic materials, but were loaded with cartel cash, the indictment revealed.
Federal prosecutors also alleged that in 2007, Maduro’s wife, Celia Flores de Maduro, took a hefty bribe to arrange a meeting between top drug traffickers and Venezuela’s top drug enforcement agent at the time, Nestor Reverol Torres. As a result of that meeting, Reverol Torres agreed to receive $100,000 per drug shipment and would share a portion of that bribe with Maduro’s wife, the indictment alleges.

Protest to Demand Answers from Gavin Newsom and Karen Bass on Anniversary of the Palisades Wildfire
More than 1,000 Palisidians have already RSVP’d to attend the January 7“THEY LET US BURN!”demonstration, a protest focused on demanding accountability from the Newsom and Bass governments, say organizers.
“THEY LET US BURN through gross negligence, mismanagement, poor preparedness, lack of infrastructure and protocol. THEY LET US BURN today with gaslighting, lack of transparency, accountability and vision,” reads a memo posted on Instagram from the group.
Invites have been sent to both the governor and the mayor, organizers say.
But as of Saturday, Mayor Bass has not responded. Governor Newsom also has not confirmed he will attend. The governor plans to be in Los Angeles next week to “visit with fire survivors,” but would not confirm his attendance at the rally, a spokesperson told the New York Post.
“This is a rally. This is a protest,” said Jeremy Padawer, the event’s organizer, told the tabloid. “We are speaking truth to power.”
Padawer is a Pacific Palisades homeowner whose house and nearly his entire neighborhood were completely destroyed by the fires.
He foundedPacificPalisades.coman online site that documents the community’s struggle to rebuild and recover, which has largely been a pathetically slow process and today is little more than a village of empty lots and skeletal ruins marking its business district on Sunset Boulevard.
Padawer alleges that the fire was not an unavoidable act of nature, but the result of systemic failures and government incompetence.
His website documents that fire hydrants were not checked, 33 percent of firetrucks were reportedly not operational, dry brush was not maintained, a local reservoir was empty, and there was “almost no fire prevention on the windiest day of the decade.”
Padawar’s site also points out that Mayor Bass was in Africa when the fire broke out, and her deputy mayor in charge of the fire and police departments was suspended from his job while under a federal investigation after calling in a fake bomb threat to get out of a Zoom meeting, Breitbart News reported.
As Breitbart News also noted this week, the wildfires in the Palisades as well as one in the suburb of Altadena have resulted in massive lawsuits, alleging negligence and incompetence by officials along with accusations that fire authorities covered up their mistakes.
A bombshell report published New Year’s Eve by the Los Angeles Times alleged that leaders of the Los Angeles Fire Department “engaged in a campaign of secrecy” to “avoid taking full responsibility” for mistakes, particularly in an “after action report” that purported to investigate the cause of the fire.
The charges leveled by “They Let Us Burn!” are largely identical to the Times reporting.

Judge Who Helped Illegal Migrant Escape ICE Resigns
A Wisconsin judge who helped an illegal alien escape from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials announced she would be resigning from her position in response to “unprecedented federal legal proceedings” brought against her.
Matt Smith, the political director with WISN 12 News, shared a letter addressed to Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers (D) from Milwaukee Circuit Judge Hannah Dugan on X. In her letter, Dugan expressed that the citizens of Wisconsin “deserve to start the year with a judge on the bench in Milwaukee County Branch 31.”
“As you know, I am the subject of unprecedented federal legal proceedings, which are far from concluded but which present immense and complex challenges that threaten the independence of our judiciary,” Dugan said. “I am pursuing this fight for myself and for our independent judiciary. However, the Wisconsin citizens that I cherish deserve to start the year with a judge on the bench in Milwaukee County Branch 31 rather than have the fate of that Court rest in a partisan fight in the state legislature.”

Suspect Allegedly Points Rifle at Off-Duty ICE Officer, Gets Shot Dead
A man is dead after allegedly pointing a rifle at an off-duty ICE officer in Northridge, California, Wednesday around 10:45 p.m.
ABC 7 reported the off-duty officer was inside his apartment and heard what he thought to be gunshots outside. The officer grabbed his gun and went outside to investigate and came upon a suspect who was allegedly holding a long gun.
The officer identified himself as law enforcement, at which point the suspect allegedly pointed the rifle at him.
An exchange of gunfire occurred, after which the officer went back inside to retrieve body armor and call backup. LAPD officers arrived on scene to find the suspect deceased.

Maduro Makes First Public Comment Since Capture During Perp Walk
Venezuela’s socialist dictator Nicolás Maduro made his first public comment since capture during a handcuffed perp walk Saturday night inside New York City’s DEA headquarters before he and his wife were roundly jeered as they were locked up.
The NY Post reports his comments were short, to the point and directed at agents escorting him, confidently wishing them a “Happy New Year,” according to video and snaps.
The toppled Venezuelan tyrant was handcuffed and sported black sweats and a black hat as he clutched a water bottle while being escorted through the Chelsea facility before being hastened to the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn.
The ousted dictator can be heard saying “Good Night, Happy New Year,” to surrounding agents, according to a footage released by the White House in a post on X they labeled “Perp walked.”
