Mornin' yo! Just starting my day out paying our local annual taxes. These are several small taxes $5-ish that if you're late with that they'll ding you with a $200 penalty. Forty times the original amount due. If a business ever tried to pull that kind of bullshit, they'd be shutdown immediately. But the local government doing it is okayโ€ฆ smh

ty. They charge a $200 fine as soon as it's 1 day late, plus 6% of the original amount which is $0.30, so paying on time $5, paying 1 day late $205.30. After that an additional 1% of the total owed is added on every 30 days.

Anon has forgotten, due to it being due at this time of year and coming home from holiday travel, and gotten hit with serious fines and late fees. They won't even tell you, if you completely forget until 9 months later. They'll just let the fines rack up. Sometimes their bills don't get received in the mail, and anon forgets. So frustrating.

My state and local are far worse than the federal govt when it comes to fines and penalties. Had an accountant overpay my taxes one year, and they would not give me back the difference. They said they would deduct it from next year's taxes instead.
