In the notorious State v. Trump case in Georgia the new prosecutor—appointed after Fani Willis was disqualified—dismissed the charges. As for my client Jeff Clark, the new and unbiased Georgia prosecutor said the allegations “plainly fail to establish the commission of any crime.” That is exactly and obviously correct. But it cost Jeff and the other defendants more than two years of their lives and careers, stained them with bogus felony accusations, and so much more.
It was obvious from the beginning that the case against Clark “plainly fail[ed] to establish the commission of any crime,” but he was charged anyway. If they thought he would flip on President Trump, they were caught up in their own fever dreams. That was never going to happen. There was nothing to flip on, and besides, unlike every other lawyer involved in the drama, Mr. Clark would never betray the privileges and confidences of his communications with the President.
The Georgia legislature was so disgusted with the squalid Fani Willis spectacle they adopted a statute that allows the defendants in State v. Trump to petition for their attorneys' fees. On Friday I filed Jeff’s petition. So far, nearly $14 million has been claimed by the defendants. That figure will likely exceed $15 million when they all come in. The reckoning for 5 years of a Trump-deranged bender is beginning.
