I want to apologize for repetitive posting in an earlier bread.
When deleted, and tired, I guess I should just accept that it is what it is and just walk away.
sorry to whoever and all for not being at the top of my game.
that is all

The original columns to the Capital were not really in the right proportions so they were either removed and replaced, or not used.
But they still exist so they were set up in a park near DC and it's apparently kind of a cool location. I've never been there (since DC because unvisitable some time over ten or 12 years ago, and I didn't know about them when I used to visit DC
read about these original columns here:

OK, the article said that they were from a portico and removed during a renovation in 1958 . . .
suffering allows for spiritual growth.
suffering helps people come closer to God.
I know it's hard to face it, and no one wants suffering, but if you don't have it at all you might end up having a very self-centered and ego-centric way of seeing things, and not give glory to God, were it belongs.
Suffering is not a good thing because of the pain, etc. But if it brings people to Christ, then it isn't all bad.
of course this doesn't give anyone license to give suffering to others, not even a little.
'suffering is evil?'
huh.
well I'd say no. And a lot of people will agree with me.
Making someone else suffer, causing suffering purposefully for no purpose is sinful.
Sometimes people need an operation.
They need it or they will die.
they have to suffer after the operation.
Sometime children are born.
the women who bare those children go through a very lot of suffering. The child wouldn't be born otherwise.
NOT EVIL.
I suggest that's a cute idea you have, that 'suffering is evil'. You've got it all wrong.
causing others to suffer pointlessly for no reason, inflicting suffering without a purpose: is sinful.
Jesus suffered and died on the cross to redeem humanity so, no, suffering isn't 'evil'.
we don't like it, we don't want it, but sometimes we just need to live through it.
Like when one gets very bad rashes. It's not evil. It's exposure to toxic substances that make one break out.
we live through it. We pray a lot. We get closer to Jesus.
It's not fun. No one wants dermititis or stomach pain or sickness. But it's not evil. It is what it is.
can you really explain 'self inflicted suffering' in a one-liner, anon?
I think you have to look at each individual case
and the purpose for it.
people who harm themselves don't always have good intentions in mind: they have some kind of self loathing. Suicide, for example, doesn't help one 'grow'.
why don't you do a dig and provide sauce for this.
the simple answer, if you are correct: because they made a grievous error.
Every Catholic throughout all time didn't do this, if true.
No one ever claimed that all Catholics are perfect.
you provide no sauce and give no insight.
try harder.
PS: priests tried to kill St. Benedict because they didn't want to do as he required.
let me see, why can't you ride a horse on the freeway or Interstate?
let me see?
Oh, ya
the horse might get scared.
Someone might hit the horse and end up causing a major accident.
Someone might need to get to a hospital in an ambulence and the horse might cause a traffic jam.
is that what you want, people in emergency vehicles unable to get through to a hospital?
It's illegal to assmble like that on the freeway.
It's dangerous.
It's stupid.
It's selfish.
It's narciscistic.
'color of law?'
how so? IT's ILLEGAL to walk or assemble on an interstate or freeway.
there are places for protest.
Maybe a bridge above the interstate works,on the sidewalk.
you don't care about the rights of those in their cars who need to get to the schools and jobs and carry out their chores.
those people have rights, anon.
and having to be blocked by freak-show activasts who are violating the law violates the rights of those trying to go about their activities.
but you don't really care, do you. you just want to be seen as one of the 'cool' protestors sticking it to 'the man'.
be a jerk at the protest and get something something.
'color of law' means false law, pretense of law.
there is no pretense: it's illegal to assemble on the interstate or free way. ILLEGAL.
there is no 'under the color of law'.
under the color of law is pretense of law where there is not a law.
