South Korean prosecutors have requested the death penalty for former President Yoon Suk Yeol, who is on trial for insurrection over his 2024 declaration of martial law in an alleged attempt to stay in power.

In closing arguments at the Seoul Central District Court on Tuesday, the special prosecutor described Yoon, 65, as the “ringleader of an insurrection,” citing an investigation that reportedly found evidence that he had masterminded a scheme, dating back to 2023, to seize control of state functions.

Yoon has denied the charges, insisting he was within his powers as president to declare martial law, citing a legislative gridlock and a supposed “rebellion” being plotted by pro-Pyongyang forces within the political opposition.

The emergency martial law declared in December 2024 triggered immediate public protests and was overturned by parliament within a day.

The surprise declaration – the first use of martial law in South Korea since 1980 – plunged the country into a constitutional crisis as hundreds of armed troops were briefly mobilized and dispatched to key state institutions, including the National Assembly, apparently to preempt parliamentary authority and block lawmakers from convening. Opponents denounced the decree as a dangerous overreach of executive power, and the National Assembly swiftly voted unanimously to overturn the order, forcing Yoon to lift it after roughly six hours.

The move sparked large protests and calls for resignation from opposition leaders, and political chaos that ultimately culminated in a successful impeachment drive later that month.

Yoon was arrested in January 2025 and formally removed from office by the Constitutional Court in April. He became the first sitting South Korean president to be detained and face criminal charges while in office.

Although South Korean law allows for capital punishment in cases of insurrection, Seoul has not carried out an execution since 1997. Legal experts believe a life sentence is a more likely outcome for Yoon.

The court is expected to deliver its verdict in February.

Yoon’s ouster led to a snap presidential election won by his rival, Lee Jae-myung, whose administration has pursued a policy of normalization with North Korea. This has included halting propaganda broadcasts at the border, marking a sharp reversal from Yoon’s hardline stance.

You're not going to see them next week, but in a month or quarter, once we get people in the bear trap, they're not getting out because we will have conclusive evidence to present. And I think that they will have to, uh, make plea deals that they will be willing to negotiate to turn in higher-ups to help us map out how this happened. The United States Congress has released its Financial Services and General Government and National Security and State “minibus”—with mirror drafts authored by the House and Senate Appropriations Committees. Concerningly, the legislation includes significant funding for globalist deep state entities like the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) and the Helsinki Commission, along with several million dollars for infrastructure projects in Belize.

A congressional minibus is essentially smaller omnibus legislation that includes funding for several government departments and agencies, and is often prone to being filled with unpopular spending that would otherwise not pass as a standalone bill. In this case, the latest minibus contains $315 million for the NED, a quasi-autonomous non-governmental organization (NGO) with a long history of targeting conservative journalists and media outlets.

In February last year, anti-Trump neoconservatives were up in arms over the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) moving to freeze funds for NED. The National Pulse reported at the time that many conservative leaders in the United States and around the world contended that NED squanders funds on undermining right-leaning governments in allied nations, such as Hungary, while boosting leftist media and politicians.

The minibus bill also provides reauthorization for the Helsinki Commission—an independent government agency created in 1975 and tasked with monitoring compliance with the Helsinki Accords. However, the agency has morphed over the years into an entity that promotes color revolutions and unauthorized election interference operations in foreign nations. Additionally, the Helsinki Commission has become a key roost for a number of anti-Trump Russia hoax conspiracy theorists, including former John Brennan aide Andrea Kendall-Taylor, Sir William Browder KCMG, and the leftist Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project’s (OCCRP) Drew Sullivan.

Notably, Browder is a staunch proponent of seizing Russian assets outside of normal government procedures—which could trigger significant backlash—and has routinely accused figures like Donald Trump Jr. and Vice President J.D. Vance of parroting Kremlin talk points. Further, the Helsinki Commission maintains ties to Ukrainian propagandist Illia Ponomarenko and former U.S. Congressman Adam Kinzinger, who has become one of the top Russia conspiracy theorists on social media.

Aside from the direct funding and authorization of NGOs that aim to undermine President Donald J. Trump‘s agenda, the minibus also contains, inexplicably, $5.7 million in funds—ostensibly through the now-defunct USAID—for infrastructure projects in Belize. This funding was likely inserted as an earmark request by lawmakers after USAID itself was dissolved, with its key functions being absorbed by the U.S. Department of State.

A systematic review of 69 studies and reports on COVID-19 and cancer identified a possible safety signal linking COVID-19 vaccines and SARS-CoV-2 to certain types of cancer.

The study identified safety signals for leukemia, lymphoma, breast and lung cancer. The authors of the paper, published last week in the journal Oncotarget, said their findings suggest the need for further research.

The paper identified mechanisms — including the spike protein and DNA contamination found in some COVID-19 vaccine types — that might be responsible for triggering cancer.

The authors also addressed “several recurrent themes” in the studies they examined:

The “unusually rapid progression, recurrence, or reactivation” of preexisting conditions.

The “atypical” appearance of cancers near the point of vaccination.

The reactivation of dormant tumors.

Wafik El-Deiry, M.D., Ph.D., one of the co-authors, told The Defender that the paper “is the first most comprehensive presentation summarizing the world‘s literature on the subject matter of COVID vaccines, COVID infection and cancer.”

He said some of the review’s findings “look like a smoking gun” linking COVID-19 shots to cancer.

Karl Jablonowski, Ph.D., senior research scientist for Children’s Health Defense, said the review’s findings may represent “the tip of a very damaging iceberg.”

“It is not remotely surprising that a gene-therapy rebranded as a vaccine, never tested for oncogenic safety, with severe immune dysregulating effects, injected into a billion people would correlate with an increased risk of cancers worldwide,” Jablonowski said.

El-Deiry said the review may provide insights into rising cancer rates in recent years, including an increase in so-called “turbo cancers.”

“I believe there is a risk of cancer associated with COVID vaccination,” El-Deiry said. “The magnitude of the risk remains to be more precisely defined, including the risk of hyperprogression.” Hyperprogression refers to cases where “a pre-existing tumor grows more aggressively.”

“The paper doesn’t say that COVID vaccines cause cancer, but it does argue that when the same pattern of aggressive cancer keeps appearing across different cancers and different countries, they can no longer be brushed aside,” investigative journalist Maryanne Demasi, Ph.D., said in a video posted Monday on Substack.

Susan’s husband, Peter Chatzky, a wealthy tech executive and deputy mayor of his affluent Westchester County village, is vying to unseat Republican New York Rep. Mike Lawler in a contest that could be among the most competitive races of the midterms. His wife’s comments appear to be at odds with the “compassion and empathy” Chatzky called for when announcing his congressional run.

“We’re one America,” Chatzky told the Westchester County, New York-based outlet The Examiner News in June 2025, adding that he hoped to end the “hatred and divisiveness” in the current political climate. “We can all be successful together.”

Susan Chatzky’s incendiary social media posts, which were previously unreported, were hidden from public view after the Daily Caller News Foundation reached out for comment.

Chatzky, a former board member of a local Planned Parenthood center, mocked the Bible and appeared to compare it to a popular children’s book series in a December 2021 post.

“I really, really, really, don’t care about your fucking stupid Bible,” Chatzky wrote on Facebook. “It’s a book. Should we live our lives according to Nancy Drew?”

In August 2025 while responding to the news of Taylor Swift’s engagement to NFL star Travis Kelce, Chatzky appeared to call attention to Trump’s hypothetical death.

“The interwebs are so excited, you would think ‘it’ had happened,” Chatzky wrote on her Facebook page.

An account in the comments clarified the “it” in question was the death of the current president.

“Imagine being Trump and knowing people are super happy for Taylor but bummed the breaking news wasn’t [sic] his demise,” the user wrote, adding a laughing emoji.

“What a great day that will be!” the user added with a praying emoji at the end.

Chatzky reacted with a heart, referred to on Facebook as a “love.”

Mississippi suspect laughed as he confessed to torching ‘Synagogue of Satan’ — FBI

Stephen Spencer Pittman burned Jackson congregation due to the ‘building’s Jewish ties,’ criminal complaint says

The FBI said on Monday that the suspect in an apparent US arson attack against a Mississippi synagogue confessed and admitted to antisemitic animus.

Stephen Spencer Pittman, 19, “confessed to lighting a fire inside the building due to the building’s Jewish ties,” an FBI investigator wrote in a criminal complaint filed in the federal Southern District court of Mississippi.

The complaint said that a review of security footage showed the perpetrator lit the fire inside the synagogue in the early morning hours on Saturday.

The hooded arsonist was seen in the footage pouring liquid in the building from what appeared to be a gas canister, the complaint said.

Pittman’s father contacted the FBI to say his son had confessed to the fire. The confession was corroborated by data from a Life360 tracking app on Pittman’s phone, Pittman’s text messages to his father, and burns on Pittman’s ankles, hands, and face.

The tracking app showed that Pittman traveled from his home in Madison County, Mississippi, stopped at a gas station, then went to the synagogue, the complaint said.

From the scene of the fire, Pittman texted his father photos, saying, “My plate is off,” apparently referring to his license plate, and “Hoodie is on.”

Pittman’s father pleaded with him to come home, then confronted him in the morning. Pittman told his father that he broke a window at the synagogue, went inside, and lit the fire.

“Pittman laughed as he told his father what he did and said he finally got them,” the complaint said.

During an interrogation, Pittman referred to the building as the “synagogue of Satan.”

Pittman was charged with a federal law criminalizing the use of fire to maliciously damage or destroy property and faces five to 20 years in prison.

The fire ripped through the Beth Israel Congregation shortly after 3 a.m. on Saturday, authorities said. No congregants or firefighters were injured in the blaze. Firefighters arrived to find flames billowing out of windows and all doors to the synagogue locked, the chief of investigations for the Jackson Fire Department, Charles D. Felton Jr., said in a statement.

The fire destroyed portions of the building, including two Torah scrolls, and rendered the synagogue unusable for the foreseeable future.

The synagogue’s library and administrative offices were destroyed in the fire, as were two Torah scrolls stored in the library. The main sanctuary was not damaged, and the Torahs there were later removed for safekeeping. A Torah rescued from the Holocaust and stored in a glass case was not damaged.

The synagogue’s president, Zach Shemper, said in a statement that he hoped services would continue uninterrupted in a new location.

“We are still assessing the damage to the building but will be continuing our worship services and other programs – locations to be determined,” he wrote. “Several churches have extended kind offers for Beth Israel congregants to use their buildings as a worship space as we rebuild.”

“We are a resilient people,” he added.

Somalia Ends All Agreements With UAE, Ask It To Quickly Leave Country

Somalia has annulled all security and defense agreements with the United Arab Emirates citing alleged breaches of the country’s sovereignty, national unity, and political independence, the country’s Council of Ministers announced on January 12.

In a statement, the council said that the decision was taken based on “reports and strong evidence regarding wrongful actions that undermine the sovereignty, national unity, and political independence” of the Horn of Africa country.

All ministers agreed during a cabinet meeting to annul all agreements and cooperative arrangements with the UAE concerning the ports of Berbera, Bosaso, and Kismayo, the statement added, noting that the ministries also approved a draft law on protecting Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial unity, along with an arbitration bill.

The bill would bar regional administrations and private entities from entering into agreements with foreign parties without prior notification to, and approval from, the federal government and oversight by the relevant ministry, according to the statement.

Tensions between Somalia and the UAE began to rise last month when Israel recognized the breakaway region of Somaliland.

Abdu Dhabi, which cultivated deep economic and security ties in the northern Somali region in recent years, was suspected of playing a role in the Israeli decision.

The centrepiece of the UAE strategy in Somaliland is a $442 million investment by Dubai-based logistics company DP World to develop and operate the Port of Berbera.

The direct reason behind the Somali decision was, however, an investigation by the country’s Immigration and Citizenship Agency that was launched after the Saudi-led Arab Coalition in Yemen announced that the UAE had spirited a separatist leader out of Yemen via Somalia.

The coalition said last week that Aidarous al-Zubaidi, head of Yemen’s Southern Transitional Council, fled the southern Yemeni city of Aden by sea to Somaliland, before flying from there to Abu Dhabi. Somalia said at the time that if the allegation were proved true it would represent a serious violation of its sovereignty.

The UAE ignored the Somali announcement, but DP World said on January 13 its operations at Berbera port were continuing under existing agreements.

“DP World remains focused on the safe, efficient operation of the port and on delivering trade facilitation and economic benefits for Somaliland and the wider Horn of Africa region,” it said in a statement to Reuters, adding that questions on “political decisions, intergovernmental discussions, or diplomatic positions should be directed to the relevant authorities.”
