The Bible is the interpretation of Gods given word. This is stated in the Bible actually in many places.
It is in some way hard to describe things that no one well had an understanding of to a point maybe. That is all I will say ok.

I could see this.
However there are some meanings in things again that some may not realized that ancient people where smarter then given credit for.
This is like the wobble and 666 so on 3 points to detect it was a circle being formed by a sphere. This is only likely a theory though as they did not make it to the South Pole likely or the middle. At lest that we know of.
Other wise there would likely been maps so on. But they could detect this from mult points away is the reality.

If it is the symbol for hell so ok it would relate to some of the ruffest waters they would sail in. This was south of like Africa it can be really bad like south South America so to speak. So then this where maybe a likeness to some was made in an educated way ok.
