Tippecanoe County Superior Court 2 Judge Steven Meyer and his wife, Kimberly Meyer, were shot and injured in their home on Mill Pond Lane in Lafayette, Indiana, on Sunday, January 18, 2026, around 2:15 p.m. The attack occurred when a person reportedly knocked on their door, claimed to have their dog, and then fired a shot through the door.

Steven Meyer sustained a gunshot wound to his arm.

Kimberly Meyer was injured in the hip.

Both victims are in stable condition and have been hospitalized.

The shooter remains at large, and the investigation is ongoing, involving Lafayette Police, Indiana State Police, the FBI, Tippecanoe County Sheriffโ€™s Office, and other agencies. Shell casings were recovered at the scene.

In response, Indiana Supreme Court Chief Justice Loretta H. Rush issued a statement urging all judges to remain vigilant in their personal security, emphasizing that any violence against a judge or their family is "completely unacceptable." She expressed deep gratitude that the Meyers are alive and called for support for their recovery.

Court operations in Tippecanoe County will continue, with senior judges providing coverage for Judge Meyerโ€™s caseload. The Meyer family has expressed gratitude to law enforcement, medical personnel, and the community for their support.
