Ethiopia kills some 40 allies in Amhara drone strike: Local sources

Tuesday 20 Jan 2026

Ethiopian forces killed around 40 fighters on their own side in a drone strike in the insurgency-hit Amhara region on January 15, a nurse and a local official told AFP on Tuesday.

Amhara, Ethiopia's second most populous with some 23 million people, has been gripped by an insurgency since April 2023 after the federal government tried to disarm local ethnic militia, the Fano.

The army regularly carries out drone strikes, but the attack on January 15 in the Waghemira area hit a pro-government camp, the local official told AFP by phone, requesting anonymity.

The army told officials the following day that it had been a "mistake" even though the drone had been over the camp for some time before the strike, he added.

"I immediately saw smoke and fire… I rushed to the scene… I saw body parts of the dead as well as the injured agonising in pain," he said, adding that 36 people were killed instantly and two more died in hospital.

A medic who treated several wounded at the scene, Abebaw Zinabu, told AFP that "more than 40" were killed.

"How can an attack happen by our forces on a well-known camp that has been home to militia members for the past six years, defending the government, fighting in the desert and valleys, away from their family and loved ones?" said the official.

An army spokesperson told AFP they had "not received any information" on the incident.

Ethiopia faces multiple insurgencies, notably in the Amhara and Oromo regions, as well as rising tensions with neighbour Eritrea.

ACLED, a conflict monitor, said in July that at least 669 people have been killed in more than 70 drone strikes in Amhara since 2023.

Gunmen kidnap 163 worshippers from two Nigerian churches: clergy

January 19, 2026 10:54 am

Armed gangs kidnapped 163 Christian worshippers after storming two churches in Nigeria’s northern Kaduna State on Sunday, a member of the clergy told AFP.

Gangs — known in Nigeria as “bandits” — frequently carry out mass kidnappings for ransom and loot villages in mainly the northern and central parts of Africa’s most populous country.

Sunday’s attacks are the latest in a wave of kidnappings targeting both Christians and Muslims in Nigeria.

“The attackers came in numbers and blocked the entrance of the churches and forced the worshippers out into the bush,” Reverend Joseph Hayab, head of the Christian Association of Nigeria for the country’s north, said on Monday.

“The actual number they took was 172 but nine escaped, so 163 are with them,” added Hayab.

A UN security report seen by AFP on Monday also noted more than 100 were abducted, suggesting more attacks could occur in the remote parts of the state.

Gunmen raided the two churches during Sunday mass in Kurmin Wali village in the predominantly Christian Kajuru district.

Kaduna state police did not respond to AFP requests for comment.

Roughly evenly split between a mostly Christian south and Muslim-majority north, Nigeria is home to myriad conflicts, which experts say kill both Christians and Muslims, often without distinction.

In November, armed gangs seized more than 300 students and teachers from a Catholic school in Niger state. They were released weeks later in two batches.

US President Donald Trump has latched onto the insecurity in Nigeria, focusing on the killing of Christians and putting Abuja under diplomatic pressure.

In late December the United States launched strikes on what it and the Nigerian government said were militants linked to the Islamic State group in the northwestern Sokoto state.

– More attacks ‘likely’ –

Kaduna is one of several states in northwest and central Nigeria that have for years been terrorised by criminal gangs who raid villages, abduct residents and burn homes after looting them.

Kajuru district is a hotspot for bandit attacks in Kaduna State, which has witnessed clashes between Christian farmers and Fulani Muslim herders.

The violence centres around competition for land and dwindling resources, although on the surface it falls along ethnic and religious lines.

A security report prepared for the United Nations said “armed bandits” attacked multiple churches in the Kurmin Wali area on Sunday, abducting “over 100 worshippers”.

The reports suggested that “similar assaults are likely to persist in remote parts of western Kaduna”.

Nigeria’s kidnappings are predominantly for ransom and the crisis has “consolidated into a structured, profit-seeking industry” that raised some $1.66 million between July 2024 and June 2025, according to a recent report by SBM Intelligence, a Lagos-based consultancy.

Fragments of carnage in Iran emerge under blackout

January 19, 2026

What has emerged since Iran imposed a nationwide internet blackout on January 8 points to bloodshed on a scale that is horrifying beyond comprehension.

Through scattered Starlink messages, rare phone calls, and videos smuggled out at great personal risk, fragments of evidence have begun to form a picture of mass killings across major cities, smaller towns, and even villages.

In a brief message sent via Starlink from Tehran to Iran International, one resident said the situation in the capital and other cities was so dire that “every person is reporting the death of a family member, relative, neighbor, or friend,” stressing that “this is not an exaggeration.”

“The air was filled with the smell of blood in Tajrish and Narmak,” an Iranian user outside the country quoted a contact as saying in a post on X, referring to neighborhoods in north and east Tehran.

“They were washing the blood from the streets with the municipal irrigation tankers they use to water roadside plants.”

A Tehran resident told Iran International that he saw heavy deployments of IRGC forces early on Thursday morning—just before the blackout—with security units transporting heavy machine guns and concealing them in parking garages across different neighborhoods.

An image later circulated showing a mounted military-grade machine gun on a security forces vehicle in Tehran’s Sadeghieh district, reportedly taken days earlier.

Iran International has reported that as many as 12,000 people may have been killed over just two days, January 8 and 9. CBS News, citing two sources—one of them inside Iran—suggested the figure could be as high as 20,000.

Thousands more have reportedly been detained nationwide. Iranian authorities have labeled anyone present on the streets after January 8 a mohareb—“one who wages war against God”—a charge that carries the death penalty.

The whereabouts of most detainees remain unknown.

The government, meanwhile, claims protesters killed hundreds of security personnel and government supporters. State media has broadcast images of a mass funeral for 100 alleged victims.

Unverified reports suggest that some families have been pressured to sign documents identifying their killed relatives as members of the Basij militia—an apparent effort to inflate official casualty figures.

BBC Persian journalist Farzad Seifkaran reported receiving a message from Tehran stating that one family was told it must either declare its relative an “active Basij member” or sign a document demanding retribution against three unnamed individuals before being allowed to retrieve the body.

Similar pressure was reported during the 2009 protests.

More recently, authorities attempted to portray Amir-Hesam Khodayari, a 22-year-old killed in Kouhdasht, Lorestan province, as a Basij member—an effort publicly rejected by his father during the burial.

In several cases, families have also said they were asked to pay for the bullets used to kill their relatives..

On Sunday, two short videos surfaced showing families inside a hangar belonging to Tehran’s forensic medicine organization in the Kahrizak area.

Dozens of bodies wrapped in black bags were visible, some on gurneys and others laid directly on the floor.

In one clip, a woman’s voice can be heard crying out to her child: “Get up my love, get up for God’s sake,” as families wander among the bodies searching in shock.

The footage appeared to capture only a fraction of what was taking place.

Hours later, Vahid, an Iranian user based in the United States who has documented Iranian protests since 2009, released a compilation of 12 videos.

Some showed the interior of the same facility, where a screen displayed names and photos of the dead while a loudspeaker called out names, instructing families to collect bodies.

According to Vahid, the footage was brought out of Iran by someone who had recently escaped the country. “They are bringing in the bodies in pick-up trucks and telling people to search them themselves,” the individual told him.

Later footage showed bodies being unloaded from trailers. Outside the building, hundreds of people moved among rows of corpses laid directly on the ground, wailing and screaming.

A source who sent images from Kahrizak told Vahid he had traveled nearly 1,000 kilometers to reach a border area where he could access the internet.

Amid the mourning, signs of defiance emerged. Rather than chanting traditional Islamic phrases, some mourners clapped and ululated, as if escorting a bride or groom.

Others raised photographs of the dead and shouted slogans including: “Death to Khamenei,” “This is the year of bloodshed, Khamenei will be toppled,” and “I will kill the one who killed my brother.”

French Carmaker Renault Converts Factories to Produce Attack Drones

Tuesday, January 20, 2026, 12:58:00 PM

Renault will manufacture military attack drones at its French automobile factories, the company confirmed Monday to Reuters, converting car assembly lines to produce up to 600 strike-capable unmanned aircraft monthly under a partnership potentially worth €1 billion.

“At the request of the French Ministry of the Armed Forces, Renault Group has been invited to contribute its expertise to the development of a French drone industry,” a Renault spokesperson said.

The partnership with defense contractor Turgis Gaillard centers on Project Chorus, a long-range remotely operated munition designed for strike missions and intelligence gathering, according to French industrial magazine L’Usine Nouvelle, which first reported details of the collaboration Sunday.

Renault’s Le Mans plant would handle drone airframe assembly while the Cléon facility would manufacture engines, employing between 100 and 200 workers from existing automotive chassis production lines.

The company declined to officially confirm specific locations.

The project began in early 2025 when France’s Directorate General of Armaments invited Renault to participate in the Drone Pact initiative.

A 30-person Renault engineering team redesigned the drone using automotive materials and assembly techniques to reduce costs and enable mass production.

The partnership could generate contracts worth approximately €1 billion over 10 years with the French defense ministry if the drone meets performance requirements, L’Usine Nouvelle reported.

Turgis Gaillard, a 400-employee defense firm with €75 million in annual revenue, specializes in niche military applications.

“Our flexibility and responsiveness come from making things that are truly simple, easy to produce and rapidly deployable,” CEO Fanny Turgis told L’Usine Nouvelle in June 2025.

Former Defense Minister Sébastien Lecornu revealed in June that a major French automaker would collaborate with a defense company on drone production, though he did not name Renault at the time.

The shift has generated controversy among some Renault workers. Union representatives told French media in mid-2025 that employees had signed contracts to build vehicles, not military equipment.

Fabrice Cambolive, Renault’s chief growth officer, confirmed Tuesday on BFM TV that the project remains in development. “We have been contacted for our industrial expertise in production and design. This project is currently underway,” he said.

Mysterious 'vehicle of unknown origin' hidden at US Navy Base raises questions about secret UFO program

Updated: 03:58 EST, 20 January 2026

A mysterious UFO has been allegedly stored at a little-known US Navy base on the East Coast for decades as the military continues to reverse-engineer its secrets.

A new report has claimed that Naval Air Station Patuxent River in Maryland, better known as Pax River, has kept an 'exotic vehicle of unknown origin' secretly housed there, possibly since the 1950s.

According to anonymous sources tied to Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR), which is headquartered at Pax River, certain military programs at the base have been involved in analyzing and exploiting technology recovered from non-human craft for years.

NAVAIR is a major part of the US Navy, which handles everything related to naval aircraft, weapons, and aviation systems. It designs, builds, tests, buys, repairs, and keeps Navy and Marine Corps aircraft ready for use.

Speaking to the Liberation Times, the unnamed sources claimed that two types of aircraft have been trying to spy on what the US has at Pax River. One is allegedly drones from China, and the other are non-human UFOs.

Recently, this spying activity has allegedly increased and moved closer to land, including right around the Navy base on the Chesapeake Bay.

Although the claims could not be confirmed by the Daily Mail, UFO whistleblower Luis Elizondo stated in written testimony to Congress that a specially built hangar was constructed at Pax River specifically for the transfer of extraterrestrial technology.

Under oath, Elizondo described a plan where this hangar would help major defense contractor Lockheed Martin move non-human technology to another company called Bigelow Aerospace for further study and analysis.

The Daily Mail has reached out to Lockheed Martin for comment. Bigelow Aerospace went dormant as a company in 2020, laying off its entire workforce during the Covid pandemic.

According to the sources who spoke to Liberation Times, the US government allegedly has a secret contingency plan for moving the unidentified craft if its specific location at Pax River becomes publicly known or is threatened by further spying.

The report added that some of the activity seen taking place near the base is believed to be linked advanced drones or aircraft that use technology that's been copied and developed from the supposed exotic materials.

Although Elizondo claimed that a new facility was built at Pax River just for these UFO transfers, the anonymous sources said none of them took place after the CIA's former director of science and technology blocked companies from gaining access.

Elizondo is a former senior intelligence official who worked at the Pentagon, where he led a secret government program called the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program (AATIP).

AATIP studied unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP), the new name for UFOs, determining if they were a possible threat to national security.

Elizondo, a whistleblower since 2017, testified under oath in 2024 to Congresswoman Nancy Mace that the government maintains secret programs to recover crashed spacecraft.

Additionally, Elizondo's testimony noted that these programs have successfully reverse-engineered some of this technology and that the US was now in possession of advanced non-human equipment, including at bases like Pax River.

'These facilities included locations in the Las Vegas area and a newly built hangar at the Patuxent River Naval Air Station (“PAX”),' Elizondo said in his testimony.

'Specifically, the PAX River hangar was designed to facilitate the transfer of future materials via air and river.'

The Maryland base has been home to the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division (NAWCAD) since 1992, a group that conducts research, development, testing, and evaluation of new aircraft and weapons, including advanced and experimental projects.

Although the US military has said there has never been any physical evidence of UFOs recovered, multiple former government employees and scientists have come forward to claim that several vehicles have been recovered since the 1940s.

Last year, Dr Hal Puthoff, a physicist and electrical engineer who worked on the government's psychic spy and UFO research programs, revealed on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast that the US military has recovered more than 10 spacecraft since the infamous Roswell incident.

Although there was no evidence to confirm it, Puthoff claimed that some of these craft were actually fully intact craft that had been 'gifted' to humans by extraterrestrials.

The unverified claims about Pax River and potential spying overhead come just one year after hundreds of unidentified drones and UFOs were spotted flying over the East Coast by both the military and the American public.

The bizarre drone swarms appeared to focus on US military installations as well as other key sites, including President Trump's property in New Jersey.

Many Americans described them as 'car-sized drones', making no noise as they flew closely overhead of residential neighborhoods from November 2024 until early 2025.

To this day, the origin of the drones, their targets over New Jersey and the rest of the East Coast, and their research remain a mystery.

However, an unnamed private firm contracted by the US military eventually took responsibility for the drone swarms, claiming they were conducting tests of their advanced aerial craft, according to off-the-record comments at an Army summit in August 2025.

Witnesses describe 1996 Brazil UFO enconter

Updated: Jan 20, 2026 / 01:52 PM CST

(NewsNation) — Investigative filmmaker James Fox held a news conference Tuesday on unidentified anomalous phenomena, where witnesses spoke about a 1996 UFO crash in Varginha, Brazil.

The conference included written testimony from people who say they encountered a nonhuman biological entity after a UFO crash in Varginha, Brazil in 1996, along with video statements and first-hand accounts of the crash.

Rep. Eric Burlison, R-Mo., was also in attendance.

In January of 1996, in Varginha, Brazil, witnesses reported a cigar-shaped object in distress that crashed into a field.

Three young women reportedly encountered a nonhuman entity and there are reports that other entities were recovered, some dead and one possibly still living.

Witness describes UFO crash, threats

The first witness to speak was Carlos, a Brazilian man who says he witnessed the crash of a nonterrestrial craft in January of 1996.

He said he initially believed the craft to be a blimp and, upon realizing the occupants may be in trouble, got in a car and followed it to the crash site.

He described half the craft being intact, with debris from the rest scattered around and a smell of ammonia and rotten eggs. Carlos said Army vehicles arrived shortly after. The soldiers ordered him to leave at gunpoint.

Carlos said that after he left, he stopped to compose himself and a dark car showed up with men in suits who approached him.

One of the men reportedly revealed he knew information, including Carlos’ name, address, and information about his family, then told him that he never saw anything.

He concluded his statement by noting that he faced 30 years of ridicule and judgment, he hopes people will take his experience seriously.

Witnesses describe encounters with nonhuman entity

Fox noted that he worked with Burlison’s office to get six other people to testify, but the visas were denied. Instead, his team returned to Brazil, where they recorded statements from the witnesses whose visas were denied.

One man described seeing a cylindrical object that moved in ways that aircraft are not capable of doing, while working on a farm.

Liliane Silva described encountering a living entity described as a being while taking a shortcut home from work.

She described a short creature with red eyes that was brown and looked as if it was covered in oil, with veins from its neck to its arms, and said she felt like the world was being stopped when she looked at it.

Silva said she had the sensation that the creature was suffering and needed help. She and the women she was with ran toward her house in fear.

Katia Xavier, another one of those women, said she felt fear when encountering the creature, which she said had oily skin, a big head, three fingers on its hand and a big foot.

She said she was going to help, but was pulled away by Silva. Xavier said she has not been the same since the encounter.

The third witness, Valquiria, described the creatures as being frightening and scared, saying it had a body shining like it was covered in oil.

Luiza Helena de Silva, mother to Liliane Silva and Valquiria, described a footprint in the grass of a foot with three long toes when she went to investigate, saying the creature was gone, but a smell lingered.

She described a visit from four men in black who offered her money if they left the area and went on television with the girls and said they saw an animal or a sick person, rather than the creature they described.

Russian UFO files reveal chilling encounters, near-miss nuclear launch

Nyei Nadeia, a journalist, said he learned about the sighting and went to investigate, but was not allowed to. He said soldiers would not let him to the location and was told it was a matter of national security.

Nadeia reported going to a hospital and seeing a commotion of doctors and also of hearing people running through the woods saying “surround it” and “it’s smooth.” He said he was told that if he kept asking about it, he would be arrested.

Soldiers allegedly involved in recovery of crash

A man whose identity was not given and whose face was obscured said he was a soldier who participated in transporting what he called an extraterrestrial.

He described seeing a being in the hospital, which he took to another location where different soldiers took over. He said he heard that Americans had the creature and had taken it to an unknown location.

A woman named Marta identified herself as the sister of a soldier who was also involved. She said her brother died of an unknown cause and asked people who know more to come forward with the truth.

A medical examiner in Varginha at the time also spoke. He said he performed the autopsy on a soldier who died unexpectedly. It was considered unusual for a young, healthy soldier to die of what seemed to be an abscess on his underarm.

Although observed and treated by other doctors, the soldier died of what was described as a highly virulent, drug-resistant bacterium. The medical examiner said samples were sent to a pathologist, who sent a written statement for the event.

In the statement, the pathologist said he performed over 50,000 autopsies and conducted more than a million microscopic analyses during his career.

He described the bacteria as highly aggressive. He said they were waiting for the soldier’s body to be exhumed so more testing could be done to test the hypothesis that the bacterium is extraterrestrial in nature.

When asked, the medical examiner said the bacterium is found on Earth but does not commonly infect humans.

Doctor describes encounter with nonhuman being

Dr. Italo Venturelli, a physician specializing in neurology and neurosurgery, gave testimony of a time he said he encountered the nonhuman intelligence.

Venturelli said he decided to share more information about his experience after suffering a near-fatal heart attack.

He said he was working in the hospital when a colleague pulled him into a room and showed him video of what appeared to be a child with a severe case of hydrocephalus.

He then directed Venturelli to a bed where a creature that Venturelli said he immediately knew was not human was lying down.

He described the creature as looking like a seven year old, with a teardrop-shaped cranium and teardrop-shaped, lilac eyes. He described a being with white skin and a hand with three fingers and an opposing thumb, no nipples and a small mouth.

When the being looked at him. Venturelli said he sensed the being was aware of what was happening and the intention to help, and that it was thankful for the care and wanted to leave.

He described an impression that the being had very high intelligence, higher than human beings, with understanding and compassion in its gaze.

He said there were indications a small surgery had been done and the other doctor had stitched up the being.

State of Emergency declared over cost of electricity in NJ

Fox noted that his team tracked down the doctor, that he did not approach them with his story. Fox said that despite his team’s best efforts, they have not been able to get the video Venturelli saw.

Experts ask anyone with information to come forward

Retired Col. Fred Clausen spoke, saying that as a fighter pilot, he encountered a UFO in 1980 and the military confiscated video from his gun camera.

Clausen said in January of 1996, a U.S. cargo plane secretly took off and flew into Brazil without authorization from Brazilian authorities, where it loaded “unusual cargo” and then departed to an unknown location.

He detailed a potential paper trail such a mission could have left behind and estimated that 30-40 Americans would have knowledge of the mission. Clausen pleaded with them to come forward with the information they have.

After the statements, Burlison asked the public to let Congress know they want transparency and disclosure on the subject.

The Pentagon has denied the existence of UFO program and maintains there is no evidence that UAPs are connected to extraterrestrial life.

The U.S. Air Force Pilot Who Had A Dogfight With A UFO WEAPONIZED : EPISODE #106

January 20, 2026

Few military pilots have a career as distinguished as that of Lt. Colonel Ryan Bodenheimer.

He flew 70 combat missions in Middle East conflict zones, was selected to join the elite Air Force Thunderbirds team, and spent hundreds of additional hours in the air as a commercial pilot.

Until last summer, Bodenheimer, whose call sign is “Neo”, remained silent about his aerial encounters with UAP.

Now, he feels like the stigma attached to UFO sightings by aviators has subsided to the point where he can share details about a staggering four different incidents involving strange objects he encountered in the skies, including one close call.

In this episode of WEAPONIZED, Bodenheimer opens up to Jeremy and George about the objects he saw, what they might be, and why aerodynamics seemingly had nothing to do with their design.

He also mentions his highly popular YouTube channel, “Max Afterburner”, which has half a million subscribers.
