Ukraine peace deal ‘reasonably close’ – Trump

The US president has said he would meet Vladimir Zelensky and send envoys to Moscow later this week

Moscow and Kiev are close to reaching an agreement on ending the Ukraine conflict, US President Donald Trump told the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos on Wednesday. He also announced he would be meeting Ukraine’s Vladimir Zelensky on Thursday, the same day a team of US negotiators would visit Moscow for talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Washington launched mediation efforts to resolve the conflict after Trump returned to the White House last year.US officials have since held numerous rounds of talks with their Russian and Ukrainian counterparts, although the efforts have thus far not produced a breakthrough. The sides have nevertheless called the meetings “constructive” and reported some progress.

“I think I can say that we're reasonably close,” Trump said, responding to a journalist’s question about the progress in the peace process. “I believe they [Russia and Ukraine] are at a point now where they can come together and get a deal done.”

The president did not elaborate on the details of a potential agreement but said that reaching one requires maintaining a “difficult balance.” According to Trump, there were moments when one side was “set” and ready for a deal and the other one would find the conditions unacceptable, and vice versa.

US-mediated peace efforts intensified late last year. Trump’s initial peace plan that was leaked to the media in November involved Kiev ceding territory to Moscow, renouncing its NATO membership aspirations, among other points. In December, Ukraine and its European backers presented a counter-proposal, which had significantly distorted the original US draft and was called a non-starter by Russia. Moscow still insisted it was “fully ready” to resolve the conflict as long as its core security concerns are addressed.

On Tuesday, US special envoy Steve Witkoff had a meeting with Putin's envoy, Kirill Dmitriev, which they both praised as constructive.

Witkoff announces talks with Putin on Thursday

The Kremlin has confirmed the talks with the US envoy will take place in the coming 24 hours.

US special envoy Steve Witkoff has saidhe will meet Russian President Vladimir Putin this weekto discuss the settlement of the Ukraine conflict.

Witkoff made the announcement while speaking to CNBC on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos on Wednesday. “Well, look, we have to go meet him on Thursday,” Witkoff said, referring to Putin.

He noted that there has been “great progress” in settling the conflict in recent weeks, but said territorial disputes remain the key sticking point.

Witkoff also noted that he would be accompanied by US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner. “Jared and I will leave Thursday night and arrive in Moscow late at night, and then go over to the UAE afterwards for working groups,” he said.

According to Witkoff, the meeting will take place at Russia’s request. “They’ve asked for the meeting. The Russians have invited us to come. And that’s a significant statement from them… So I think everybody is embedded in the process and wants to see a peace deal happen.”

Witkoff said the talks will bebased on Washington’s 20-point peace plan. “We’re massaging it and harmonizing it, and I think we’re down to land deals now – that’s been the 800lb elephant in the room– and I think we have some very, very good ideas around that,” he stated.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed Witkoff and Kushner’s upcoming visit. He also noted that “it is important for us to obtain all the information on the discussions between Americans, Europeans, and Ukrainians” and the relevant proposals.

Witkoff’s comments come following his meeting with Kirill Dmitriev, a key special envoy to Putin, in Davos, on Tuesday, after the Kremlin said Moscow intended to pass “certain information” to the US on the settlement talks.

Witkoff met Putin at least six times in person in 2025 as part of efforts to advance peace talks, with the most recent five-hour talks taking place on December 2. At the time, Russian presidential aide Yury Ushakov said that “no compromises have been found as of yet,” adding that “some American proposals are acceptable to Russia… others are not.”

Witkoff is an amazing man, his patience and ability to be friendly and polite in all tough negotiations is a gift.

Kiev mayor fears ‘humanitarian catastrophe’ as Zelensky refuses to meet

Hundreds of thousands of residents left the Ukrainian capital this month alone, Vitaly Klitschko has said

(Zekensky bombed Russia first and Russia fought back, russia had about of half of million citizens without heat. Zelensky doesn't care about peons just as long his golden toilet is heated.)

Zelensky blamed the mayor for the situation, saying in a public address last week that Kiev is less prepared for the energy crisis than other cities like Kharkov. Klitschko dismissed the criticism as unfounded and said the Ukrainian leader turned down his requests for a meeting to discuss the crisis. The mayor also maintained that electricity generation is the responsibility of the federal government, not the city.

Opposition MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak blamed both Zelensky and Klitschko for the crisis, saying they “need to stop pointing fingers at each other.”

Zheleznyak added, however, that his “first question is to Zelensky, especially after all these corruption scandals.” According to the lawmaker, the city has had a military administration connected to the president for four years, and “the largest municipal budget in the country.”

Ukraine was hit by a massive corruption scandal in November 2025, which involved a close associate and business partner of Zelensky, Timur Mindich – who allegedly ran a $100 million kickback scheme in the energy sector, which heavily depends on Western aid. The scandal led to the resignations of several ministers, including Energy Svetlana Grinchuk, and Zelensky’s then-chief of staff, Andrey Yermak.

Kiev Mayor Vitaly Klitschko has warned thatthe Ukrainian capital is moving toward a “humanitarian catastrophe,” in an interview with The Times published on Tuesday. He also publicly exchanged blame for the situation in the city with Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky.

Around 5,600 apartment buildings remain without heating, Klitschko told the British paper, calling the situation “critical.”He urged residents to leave the city of 3 million and said 600,000 have already done so this month alone.(where are the people supposed to go?)

The mayor earlier linked the power outages to the waves of Russian strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.Moscow said last week that it targeted drone production facilities, energy infrastructure, and other military‑related sitesin response to Ukrainian strikes on Russian power facilities and what it described as indiscriminate attacks on civilians.

Putin’s special envoy praises ‘constructive’ talks with US

More and more people understand Moscow’s position, Kirill Dmitriev has

Kirill Dmitriev, a key special envoy to Russian President Vladimir Putin, described talks with US officials on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos as “constructive” on Tuesday. He was speaking after the two sides met behind closed doors for more than two hours.

Earlier in the day, theKremlin said Moscow intended to pass “certain information” to the US regarding a possible settlement of the Ukraine conflict during the meeting.

Dmitriev met US President Donald Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, as well as Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, according to TASS.

“The meeting was constructive,”Dmitriev told reporters after leaving the US venue at the forum, known as USA House. “More and more people recognize the validity of the Russian position,” he added, without elaborating.

Witkoff also described the talks as “very positive,” but did not provide details.

Moscow and Washington have gradually intensified contacts since Trump returned to office, last year, with both sides publicly signalling interest in exploring a negotiated solution to the conflict in Ukraine. Under Trump’s predecessor, Joe Biden, relations between the two countries had fallen to their lowest level in decades.

Dmitriev visited the US several times last year, where he negotiated ways to restore bilateral ties and stop the fighting between Moscow and Kiev. During his most recent trip, in December, he held two days of talks with Witkoff and Kushner. Both sides described the talks as “constructive” at the time as well.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said last week thatthe Russian authorities are looking forward to another visit by Witkoff and Kushner to Moscow. Putin met with Witkoff six times in 2025, according to Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

Kiev’s top negotiator Rustem Umerov also said over the weekend that talks with the Americans on finding a diplomatic solution to the conflict will continue at the WEF this week.

Earlier on Tuesday, Axios reported that a plan for Trump to sign the so-called “prosperity plan” for Kiev with Ukraine’s Vladimir Zelensky on the sidelines of the Davos forum has been scrapped. The Ukrainian leader announced the same day he would not attend the event.(good, no one will miss the little gnat!)

President Trump and Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi Hold a Bilateral Discussion

Does Trump ever sleep?

January 21, 2026 | Sundance | 3 Comments

Going back to 2016, Egyptian President Fattah al-Sisi formed a strong relationship based on mutual interests. When the Hamas/Gaza war with Israel broke out, it was al-Sisi who was the key regional leader who -with full credibility from prior action against Islamic extremists- became the voice of stability that both sides of the crisis could respect.

Army General al-Sisi had the respect of the Egyptian people and during the Arab Spring it was al-Sisi who took control, dispatched the Muslim Brotherhood and restored lawful order to the country. Following the ouster of Mohammed Morsi, al-Sisi won the election with 80% support, then destroyed the Hamas tunnels that were used by extremists to smuggle weapons into Gaza. The Muslim Brotherhood and al-Qaeda elements then targeted al-Sisi and conducted numerous terrorist attacks in the Sinai. Despite their efforts to destabilize Egypt, al-Sisi kept things under control.

President Sisi strongly influenced the other regional leaders to support President Trump as the one political leader who could bring forceful peace back to the situation in Gaza. During this bilateral session at the WEF, President Sisi thanks President Trump for his leadership and pledges full support to participate in the Gaza Board of Peace. WATCH:

NATO General Secretary Mark Rutte Tells Davos Audience, “Trump is Right”

January 21, 2026 | Sundance |

NATO General Secretary Mark Rutte and EU leaders from the Arctic bordering states hold a panel discussion at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. As NATO General Secretary Rutte outlines the reality of the situation with a full defense of President Trump’s position, he remarks to the audience, “I’m not popular with you right now because I defend Donald Trump, but I really believe we can be happy that he’s here”. WATCH:

It has been reported that French President Emmanuel Macron left Davos upset about President Trump’s position on the need for security in Greenland. However, Macron looks small against the backdrop of the discussion by the adults who are accepting the truth and reality in what President Trump is doing.

(Macron was banking on leading the UN when hes termed out, now it wont mean anything. He already has France hating him, the killing muslims love him.)
