Paratroopers can jump from a C-17 Globemaster III at a range of altitudes depending on the mission profile,

from a minimum of around 500 feet AGL (Above Ground Level) for combat jumps to as high as 35,000 feet for high-altitude military freefall insertions.

Typical Jump Altitudes

Training Jumps: During the U.S. Army's Basic Airborne Course (BAC), students typically jump from an altitude of around 1,250 feet AGL using a static line system, where a cord attached to the aircraft automatically deploys the parachute shortly after exiting the plane.

Peacetime/Administrative Jumps: Standard training and administrative jumps in operational units usually occur at approximately 800 to 1,250 feet AGL.

Combat Jumps: In a combat environment, the altitude can be much lower to reduce exposure to enemy fire. Typical combat jump altitudes are around 500 feet AGL, although historical jumps have occurred from as low as 300 feet. This low altitude provides only a few seconds before landing, requiring immediate and automatic parachute deployment.

Military Freefall (HALO/HAHO): For special operations, high-altitude military parachuting techniques like High Altitude, Low Opening (HALO) and High Altitude, High Opening (HAHO) can be used. These jumps typically occur from altitudes between 15,000 and 35,000 feet, requiring special oxygen equipment to prevent hypoxia.

The specific altitude for a given jump is determined by factors such as mission requirements, parachute type (e.g., T-11 or MC-6), environmental conditions, and safety regulations
