Russian deep-strike drones obliterate Ukrainian military helicopters (MOD VIDEO)

26 Jan, 2026 12:45

The Russian Defense Ministry has released footage of what it said were Geran kamikaze drones destroying two Ukrainian military helicopters deep inside the country.

The strikes, reportedly carried out Saturday, may have involved unmanned aircraft which were guided via satellite link.

The video shows two separate hits on the same location, with an operator appearing to assist the drones’ targeting systems.

The ministry identified the destroyed aircraft as a Mil Mi-24 and a Mil Mi-8 operated by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

The footage had previously circulated on Russian military Telegram channels.

Ukrainian electronic warfare specialist Sergey “the Flash” Beskrestnov, who was recently appointed an advisor to the new Ukrainian Defense Minister, Mikhail Fedorov, said no additional Russian drones were nearby to relay commands during the attack, suggesting it was the first Geran deployment to use a satellite internet link.

“Those [drones] were piloted manually at a low altitude to stay under the radar,” Beskrestnov said.

The Russian military did not comment on the Gerans’ targeting but said the strikes hit an area 46 kilometers west of the Kanatovo airfield in Kirovograd Region, deep inside Ukrainian-controlled territory.

Earlier this month, the Defense Ministry launched a major recruitment drive for the Russian Unmanned Forces – a new formation being rapidly expanded based on experience from the Ukraine conflict.

Drone Attacks Ignite Oil Facility in Russia as Moscow Pounds Ukraine Overnight

Jan. 26, 2026, 9:07 am

Drones attacked the Russian city of Slavyansk-na-Kubani early Monday morning, Jan. 26, setting an oil refinery on fire and striking another enterprise.

Earlier, monitoring Telegram channels reported that Russia’s Krasnodar Territory was under attack by unidentified drones, including the Slavyansk-na-Kubani oil refinery.

Later in the morning, the Operational Headquarters of the Krasnodar Territory confirmed strikes on two industrial facilities, where fires broke out.

“Fragments of UAVs fell on the territory of two enterprises. Fires occurred at the facilities and are being extinguished by emergency services,” the headquarters said.

Eyewitnesses told the Shot Telegram channel that drones were flying in from the direction of the Sea of Azov, with five to seven powerful explosions heard over the city.

Regional authorities did not specify which enterprises were targeted. However, Ukrainian monitoring channel Exilenova+ reported that one of the storage tanks at the Slavyansk oil refinery caught fire.

The refinery was previously attacked on Dec. 17, 2025, when technological equipment and a pipeline were damaged by fire.

The facility belongs to Slavyansk EKO and has a design capacity of 5.2 million tons per year, though recent output has reached about 4.1 million tons.

Russia’s Defense Ministry claimed that overnight air defenses “intercepted and destroyed” 34 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones over the Krasnodar Territory.

Ukraine’s General Staff later confirmed the destruction of a Russian oil refinery.

“Units of the Defense Forces of Ukraine struck the infrastructure of the Slavyansk Eco oil refinery (Slovyansk-na-Kubani, Krasnodar Territory, Russia).

This facility is part of the energy rear of the Russian Federation and is involved in supporting the aggressor’s armed forces,” the statement on Telegram said.

According to the General Staff, strike UAVs were recorded hitting the refinery’s territory, with explosions observed in the target area.

Preliminary information indicates that elements of the primary oil refining unit were damaged. The extent of the damage is still being clarified.

In addition, warehouses used for the logistical support of Russian troops in the occupied territories of Donetsk (Donetsk city) and Zaporizhzhia (Solodkovodne village) regions were hit.

Strikes were also carried out on a UAV control point near occupied Velyka Novosilka in the Donetsk region, as well as on concentrations of Russian manpower in the areas of occupied Yunakivka (Sumy region) and Kolisnykivka (Kharkiv region).

“The number of killed and wounded occupiers is being determined,” the report added.

Meanwhile, Russian forces attacked Vilnyansk in Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia region early Monday, causing fires and damaging residential buildings.

Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration buildings were damaged, including shattered windows and facades. No casualties were reported.

According to Zaporizhzhia region Governor Ivan Fedorov, Russian troops also struck twice overnight. In one attack, a fire broke out at the impact site.

In another, four strikes damaged private houses, one of which caught fire before being extinguished by rescuers. No injuries were initially reported.

Ukraine’s Air Force said Russia launched 138 drones of various types overnight from six directions, including Shahed and Gerbera UAVs, about 90 of them Shaheds.

As of 8 a.m., Ukrainian air defenses had shot down or suppressed 110 drones in the north and east of the country. Twenty-one UAVs struck 11 locations, while debris from downed drones fell in one area.

Drones appeared over central Kyiv before sirens: Expert warns new capabilities are bad news for Ukraine

26/01/2026

On 26 January, an unusual situation occurred in Kyiv during an air raid alert. The warning was issued without simultaneous alerts in neighboring regions.

The reason was a Russian drone that, according to eyewitnesses, was spotted over the capital even before the siren was on.

At the same time, sirens were not activated in Kyiv or Chernihiv regions, raising serious questions about how the drone entered the city’s airspace.

Possible link to new Russian UAVs

The incident occurred amid statements by electronic warfare and communications expert Serhii Beskrestnov, also known as Flash, who reported Russia’s use of a new BM-35 drone, including during an attack on Dnipro.

According to him, the BM-35 may use Starlink for control, which fundamentally changes the threat level.

“When Shaheds start flying with Starlink, it’s only a matter of time. Possibly even days, not months. This is a big problem for us,” Beskrestnov stressed.

Such drones are largely resistant to electronic warfare, as they do not rely on standard navigation channels. In effect, this would transform a “blind” strike drone into an FPV-like system that an operator could control directly from Russian territory.

Currently, there is no information on how to down these types of drones.

Drone over central Kyiv without warning

Civic activist Taras Shamaida pointed out the unprecedented nature of the situation.

“I’ve never seen this before. An alert because of an enemy drone over Kyiv, while there is no alert and there was none in Kyiv or Chernihiv regions," he said.

According to him, this may indicate that the drone reached central Kyiv without being detected by early warning systems in neighboring regions.

Social media users also reported drones flying over the capital without advance alerts, further heightening concern.

Reconnaissance ahead of missile strikes

Experts do not rule out that such UAVs could be used not only for strikes but also for reconnaissance ahead of larger missile attacks.

This is happening against the backdrop of diplomatic statements about possible negotiations to end the war, including comments by US President Donald Trump about Russia’s alleged readiness to stop attacks and fighting in Ukraine.

What is known about the BM-35

The first reports of BM-35 use appeared in 2025

The drone has already been used to attack frontline settlements

One BM-35 previously struck the Sumy Regional Military Administration

It has a delta-shaped wing and an unknown warhead weight

It contains at least 41 foreign components, including parts from the US, Switzerland, and Taiwan

Most components originate from China

The use of such drones causes not only physical damage to civilian infrastructure, as per Militarnyi. also has a significant impact on the psychological state of the civilian population, as it makes alerts longer and drones much harder to intercept or take down with known electronic warfare means.

CENTCOM chief meets IDF’s Zamir amid US military buildup

Jan. 25, 2026

Adm. Brad Cooper, commander of United States Central Command (CENTCOM), held meetings in Israel on Saturday amid the ongoing U.S. military buildup in the region in response to tensions with the Iranian regime.

Cooper visited the Jewish state as a guest of Israel Defense Forces Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir, the military said in a statement on Sunday, adding that the two men held an “extended one-on-one meeting.”

The meeting between Cooper and Zamir was followed by a session attended by additional commanders, according to the statement.

Cooper’s visit is “a further expression of the relationship between the commanders and constitutes another step in enhancing the close strategic relationship between the IDF and the U.S. military, and in strengthening defense cooperation,” the Israeli statement added.

The U.S. military continued to bolster its forces in the Middle East region throughout the weekend, with assessments that their deployment will be completed in the coming days ahead of a possible strike on Iran.

U.S. President Donald Trump, speaking with reporters aboard Air Force One on Friday, warned that “We have a big force going toward Iran; I’d rather not see anything happen, but we’re watching them very closely.”

He reiterated that his repeated threats prevented the execution of 837 people whom Iranian authorities arrested during the nationwide protests that shook the Islamic Republic earlier in January.

Israeli defense officials believe that the U.S. military buildup could be a platform for carrying out a strike or as leverage for reaching a new nuclear deal with Tehran, Kan News reported over the weekend.

Israeli security forces have intensified their preparations for a possible U.S. strike, which could lead to an Iranian response against the Jewish state. A scenario being discussed is a “miscalculation” by the Iranians that will prompt them to attack Israel, Channel 12 News reported.

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Italy’s ITA Airways and Germany’s Lufthansa Group announced the cancellation of some flights to Ben-Gurion International Airport over the weekend amid the tensions.

KLM also announced cancellations of flights to Dubai and Riyadh.

The regime has blamed the opposition protests—the largest since 1979—on the U.S. and Israel, with Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi claiming in an X post on Dec. 19 that the Islamic Republic defended itself against “armed terrorists and ISIS-style killings openly backed by Mossad.”

Two unnamed senior officials in Iran’s Ministry of Health told Time magazine on Saturday that as many as 30,000 protesters could have been killed by the country’s security forces on Jan. 8 and 9 alone.

The possible death toll, which the article noted could not be verified, far exceeds the 3,117 announced on Jan. 21 by Iran’s Interior Ministry and the Foundation of Martyrs and Veterans Affairs.

The 30,000 figure also surpasses tallies compiled by Iranian human rights groups.

In a Jan. 2 post on the Truth Social platform, Trump threatened that the U.S. military was “locked and loaded and ready to go” if the regime killed protesters, which he said was Iran’s “custom.” Trump said “the United States of America will come to their rescue.”

Trump has since repeatedly escalated his rhetoric, including on Jan. 4, when he told reporters that the regime would be “hit very hard” if it began killing protesters. Trump has also called for “new leadership” in Iran.

Hezbollah calls Trump’s threats against Khamenei a direct challenge

Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem on Monday said the group considers threats by US President Donald Trump against Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei to be a threat against Hezbollah itself.

“Hezbollah is concerned with confronting Trump’s threat against Khamenei and considers it a threat against itself, and it has full authority to take whatever it deems appropriate to confront it,” Qassem said.

Drone Strike Near Kobani Kills Six Civilians as Ceasefire Violations Persist

Monday, Jan. 26, 2026, at 02:38pm

A drone strike targeted a residential structure in a village on the outskirts of Kobani on Monday, resulting in the deaths of six civilians and the wounding of six others.

The attack, which struck a private family home in the village of Kharab Ashk, occurred amid a sensitive period of escalating regional tensions and reported breaches of a recently brokered ceasefire agreement.

According to data provided by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, the victims of the strike included members of a single civilian family.

Among the six individuals wounded in the blast, four were identified as children. Due to the severity of their injuries, the survivors were transported to various medical centers within the region for urgent treatment.

The strike represents a significant escalation in kinetic activity near the city, which has been grappling with both military pressure and a deteriorating humanitarian landscape.

The aerial assault took place despite the formal announcement of a 15-day ceasefire, established under the framework of a January 18 agreement between the Syrian government and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

While the truce was intended to stabilize the region and protect non-combatants, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that violations of the agreement have been recorded on a near-continuous basis throughout the Hasakah and Kobani regions.

The Observatory’s monitoring of the conflict zones has identified a pattern of military activity that appears to challenge the durability of the current truce.

These reported violations include the systematic shelling of villages such as Kharab Ashk and Jalabiya with heavy weaponry.

Additionally, the monitor documented military raids on the village of Tel Ahmar, located on the outskirts of Kobani.

The use of drones and various other weapons systems has not been limited to the immediate vicinity of Kobani; similar incidents have been reported across several villages in the Hasakah governorate, resulting in further casualties and extensive damage to civilian property.

The lethality of the recent instability was further illustrated by a separate incident involving the village of Qasimliya, situated near Kobani.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, artillery shelling directed at the village resulted in the death of one child and left three other children wounded.

These repeated strikes on inhabited areas have fostered an environment of profound fear and anxiety among the civilian population, as residents find themselves increasingly caught in the crossfire of the regional standoff.

Beyond the immediate threat of military strikes, the city of Kobani and its surrounding countryside are currently navigating an acute humanitarian crisis.

Local infrastructure has been severely compromised by the ongoing sieges and frequent clashes. Residents have been subjected to a total cutoff of essential services, including electricity and drinking water.

Furthermore, internet and communication lines have been severed, isolating the population and complicating the efforts of humanitarian actors to assess the full extent of the needs on the ground.

The humanitarian emergency in Kobani is unfolding as various armed factions and the central government continue to struggle for control over the strategic northern regions.

The reported breakdown of negotiations and the withdrawal of the SDF from certain areas have left a vacuum that government-affiliated forces and other armed groups have moved to fill, often involving the use of siege tactics that prioritize military objectives over civilian safety.

As of Monday afternoon, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights continues to track the fallout from the strike on Kharab Ashk.

The persistent nature of these violations, particularly the targeting of residential homes and the resultant casualties among children, underscores the fragility of the diplomatic efforts aimed at maintaining the ceasefire.

With essential services remaining suspended and military activity continuing to fluctuate, the civilian population around Kobani remains in a state of high vulnerability.

Lithuanian Border Guards Intercept “Cigarette” Weather Balloons and Drone From Belarus Over the Weekend

14:27 26.01.2026

Lithuanian border guards again intercepted cigarette smuggling from Belarus over the weekend. Weather balloons were discovered, and a drone was forced to land.

According to the State Border Guard Service, on Saturday evening a drone that entered from Belarus was detected in the Šalčininkai district using a surveillance system.

Border guards used countermeasures and landed the UAV in a field. A homemade quadcopter was found carrying 1,000 packs of NZ Gold cigarettes with Belarusian excise stamps.

Also on Saturday and Sunday, five consignments of cigarettes delivered by balloons were intercepted.

Three balloons were found in the Varėna district, and one each in Druskininkai and the Alytus district. Nearly 20,000 packs of contraband cigarettes were seized.

This year, Lithuanian border guards have already detected 16 consignments of cigarettes delivered by weather balloons. Last year, there were 635 such cases.

Lazarus Hackers Target European Drone Manufacturers in Active Campaign

January 26, 2026

The North Korean state-sponsored Lazarus hacking group has launched a sophisticated cyberespionage campaign targeting European defense contractors involved in uncrewed aerial vehicle (UAV) manufacturing.

The attacks appear directly linked to North Korea’s efforts to accelerate its domestic drone production capabilities through industrial espionage.

The targeted organizations include a metal engineering firm, an aircraft component manufacturer, and a specialized defense company, with at least two heavily involved in UAV technology development and production.

The campaign represents a new wave of Operation DreamJob, Lazarus’s signature social engineering operation that uses fake job offers at prestigious companies as bait.

Starting in late March 2025, ESET identified multiple attacks targeting three defense-sector companies across Southeastern and Central Europe.

Victims receive fraudulent job descriptions alongside trojanized PDF readers, which deliver malware when executed. This deceptive tactic has proven remarkably effective despite widespread security awareness campaigns.

Advanced Malware Toolset Deployed

The attackers deployed ScoringMathTea, a sophisticated remote access trojan (RAT) that has served as Lazarus’s payload of choice for three years. BinMergeLoader leverages the Microsoft Graph API and uses Microsoft API tokens for authentication.

First observed in October 2022, ScoringMathTea supports approximately 40 commands, enabling attackers to manipulate files and processes, collect system information, establish TCP connections, and execute downloaded payloads.

One dropper sample discovered by researchers contained the internal name “DroneEXEHijackingLoader.dll,” providing a direct link to the campaign’s focus on UAV technology theft.

The malware leverages DLL side-loading techniques and trojanizes legitimate open-source projects from GitHub including TightVNC Viewer, MuPDF reader, and plugins for Notepad++ and WinMerge to evade detection.

ESET researchers noted significant evolution in the group’s tactics, including new DLL proxying libraries and improved selection of open-source projects for trojanization.

The malware uses compromised WordPress servers for command-and-control communication, typically storing server components within theme or plugin directories.

The timing and target selection strongly suggest the campaign aims to steal proprietary UAV designs, manufacturing processes, and industrial know-how.

North Korea has invested heavily in domestic drone capabilities, with recent reports indicating Pyongyang is developing low-cost attack UAVs for potential export to African and Middle Eastern markets.

Russia is reportedly assisting North Korea in producing knockoff Iranian Shahed suicide drones.

North Korea’s flagship reconnaissance drone, the Saetbyol-4, appears as a carbon copy of the Northrop Grumman RQ-4 Global Hawk, while the Saetbyol-9 combat drone closely resembles General Atomics’ MQ-9 Reaper.

These designs demonstrate North Korea’s reliance on reverse engineering and intellectual property theft to advance its military capabilities.

At least one targeted company manufactures critical components for UAV models currently deployed in Ukraine, which North Korean forces may have encountered on the frontline in Russia’s Kursk region, where North Korean troops were deployed in 2025.

Additionally, the company is involved in advanced single-rotor drone development unmanned helicopter technology that Pyongyang is actively developing but has not successfully militarized.

Attribution and Broader Context

ESET attributed the attacks to Lazarus with high confidence based on multiple indicators: the social engineering methodology, trojanization of GitHub open-source projects for DLL side-loading, deployment of ScoringMathTea, and targeting of European aerospace and defense sectors.

Lazarus, also known as HIDDEN COBRA, is an advanced persistent threat (APT) group linked to North Korean intelligence services and active since at least 2009.

The group is responsible for high-profile incidents including the 2016 Sony Pictures Entertainment hack, tens-of-millions-of-dollar cyberheists, the 2017 WannaCry ransomware outbreak, and ongoing attacks against South Korean infrastructure.

Security experts recommend defense contractors implement rigorous employee training on social engineering tactics, particularly fake recruitment lures.

Organizations should scrutinize job offers from unexpected sources, verify executable files before opening, and deploy advanced endpoint detection solutions capable of identifying trojanized legitimate software.

Network segmentation and privileged access management can limit lateral movement if initial compromise occurs.

Drone test flights prove possibilities for use in fusion

Monday, 26 January 2026

Due to the Joint European Torus's (JET's) complex, crowded, and highly sensitive environments, the use of drones had been highly restricted, despite the value of remote inspection.

However, in late 2025, history was made with the first JET inspection drone flights - first in October as a derisking exercise in the JET in-vessel training facility, then in the JET assembly hall, and finally around the exterior of the JET torus itself, between 25 and 26 November.

The flights were jointly conducted to gather data to serve the needs of four parties.

The Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Collaboration (RAICo) led a project to conduct inspection flights, with the aim of gathering safety inspection data and establishing the processes to support future inspections as it proceeds along its decommissioning journey.

At the same time, a separate collaboration between UKAEA's RACE (Remote Applications in Challenging Environments) robotics centre, Eni and EniProgetti, supported by RINA, explored how they could use drones, alongside other inspection systems, to enable rapid checks of fusion devices and help verify system readiness.

This approach aims to significantly shorten the time required for these assessments, a critical step for meeting the stringent reliability standards demanded by commercial fusion power plants.

They were also keen to further understand the use of aerial drones for rapid inspection of fusion facilities, to complement ground-based inspection techniques.

To ensure safety, the teams conducted a detailed risk assessment, secured access permissions, completed local inductions and implemented safety measures, including post-flight contamination swabbing.

On the day, the flights used a Flyability Elios 3 drone which undertook over 30 flights of 6-7 minutes (the limit of a single battery) in JET's torus hall.

The drone is equipped with built-in camera and LiDAR, and radiation sensors were added as a payload, which let it gather detailed data and high-resolution imagery.

It is surrounded by a lightweight soft cage, allowing it to operate near sensitive structures without risk to itself or its surroundings.

The RAICo team also used the opportunity to carry out a real inspection of high-up junction boxes. That data proved useful, highlighting minor maintenance issues.

"The flights successfully demonstrated that drone-based imaging and inspection can be performed safely to support [decommissioning and repurposing] activities and provided valuable learnings for future flights," UKAEA said.

"If adopted, drones could save time and money. For example, they would avoid the need to carefully erect scaffolding to inspect equipment at height, which is time-consuming in a controlled area.

The initial inspection data captured from the flight, which has already improved one aspect of maintenance, hints at the wider potential.

"These flights and the lessons learned pave the way for aerial drone use at JET, and in fusion engineering and decommissioning more widely.

This aims to lead to enhanced situational awareness, reduced inspection time and downtime, and better data quality that can be easily integrated into a digital environment and artificial intelligence models.

All of that will be achieved whilst reducing the need for people to enter harmful environments."

JET was a tokamak fusion system with a doughnut-shaped vacuum chamber where, under the influence of extreme heat and pressure, gaseous hydrogen fuel becomes a plasma.

The charged particles of the plasma can be shaped and controlled by massive magnetic coils placed around the vessel to confine the hot plasma away from the vessel walls.

It was the only tokamak fusion machine in operation capable of handling tritium fuel, and was a key device in preparations for the multinational ITER fusion research project which is currently under construction in southern France.

JET was a European project built and used collaboratively by European researchers.

It is now owned, and in its last years operated by, the UKAEA, and used by scientists from 28 European countries to conduct research into the potential for carbon-free fusion energy in the future through work coordinated by the EUROfusion consortium.

The tokamak's first deuterium-tritium experiments took place in 1997.

JET's final experiments using deuterium and tritium fuel were conducted over seven weeks from August to October 2023, ahead of its retirement following its final pulse in December.

During those experiments, JET produced the largest amount of energy achieved in a fusion experiment, breaking its own record set in 2021.

Following its retirement JET has moved on to repurposing and decommissioning, a process expected to last until about 2040, and which is seen as providing further opportunities to discover and develop new technologies and skills for future fusion.

JET is now in the early stages of being decommissioned and repurposed by the UKAEA, under the JET Decommissioning and Repurposing (JDR) programme.

Eyes on the skies: Merseyside UFO reports double and we have a long history of sightings

12:08, 25 Jan 2026

The number of reports made to Merseyside Police about UFOs and aliens doubled between 2024 and 2025, new figures reveal.

The data, obtained by the ECHO under the Freedom of Information Act (FOI), shows 34 incidents were reported to police in 2025.

That figure represents a 100 per cent increase on the previous year, which saw 17 reports. The reports included mentions of unidentified flying objects, aliens and extra-terrestrials.

Gideon Allen, 27, a "part-time witch" who lives in the Baltic Triangle, predicted that Liverpool was "on the verge of becoming a UFO hotspot" when he reported his own close encounter to the ECHO in 2024.

He said: "I'm not surprised there's been a rise in activity at all."

'The way it moved left me speechless'

Gideon was walking to his local shop in the Baltic Triangle on December 16 2024 and was nursing a stiff hangover following a works Christmas do. He said:

"At first, I thought it was just my imagination, but then something caught my eye. High in the sky, a flashing orb about six to eight feet in size. It shimmered, flickering between colours.

"The way it moved left me speechless. It didn’t glide like a plane or hover like a helicopter. It zig-zagged, stopped on a dime, and darted in every direction. I stood frozen, unable to fully comprehend what I was witnessing."

Gideon told the ECHO recently: "I’ve had quite a few people say that they saw orbs around that time but they didn’t want to go to the press about it.

Gideon said at the time that he believed his "supernatural abilities" were "pulling aliens in". Gideon, an actor set to feature in upcoming BBC series 'The Cage', set in a Liverpool casino, said of the extra-terrestrials:

"They’re coming because Liverpool is a fun place to live and maybe they want to move in, and because I'm here."

Gideon is to play a barman in the thriller series, which stars Sheridan Smith and Michael Socha. Gideon says he is still practising witchcraft.

He joked: "People ask me am I a good witch or a bad witch, and for the most part I’m good, but bad things happen to my exes."

Merseyside 'no stranger' to UFOs

In 2024, the ECHO published an interactive map that showed UFO sightings over Merseyside, including 20 in Liverpool, including a silver cylinder-shaped UFO, a black square that shone a bright white light, and flashing orange lights that looked as though they were "exploding in the sky".

Merseyside previously saw a wave of UFO reports in the 1960s. Prolific local author and researcher of the supernatural, Tom Slemen, said the region is "no stranger to the baffling phenomenon".

He recorded stories of "green flying saucers" and people being woken from their beds. In 1967, Knowsley and parts of Liverpool were visited by a wave of UFOs.

"[This was] The first major flap (UFO jargon for an unusually high concentration of sightings in a certain area within a brief period of time).

At 3am one August morning in 1967, a nine-year-old child named Andrea was awakened from her sleep by a weird humming sound.

"Andrea went and woke her mum up and, and the girl’s mother realised the sound was coming from outside.

She pulled back the curtains and saw a glowing green object hovering at rooftop level. Andrea’s mother later described the UFO in a newspaper article as resembling a humming top."

'Huge circular object hovering'

The strange craft flashed away into the night at such a speed, the Huyton woman could not follow it with her eyes.

That same morning at three, a 50-year-old man at a house on Huyton’s Essex Road, got out of bed to go to the toilet when he happened to glance out the window.

The man was startled to see a huge circular object hovering over Whiston Lane. It gave off a greenish glow and emitted a humming sound for about ten seconds before it zoomed north towards Huyton Lane.

More strange objects were seen over Knowsley and Liverpool in the following months, including a UFO described by the ECHO as a plate in the sky that was seen on the Thursday night of October 26, 1967.

'Plate in the sky'

This flying saucer made front page headlines after it was seen by dozens of witnesses whizzing over Croxteth Hall Lane and Norris Green.

Peter Murphy, a 35-year-old garage manager from Kirkby, had been driving along Croxteth Hall Lane at 11.25pm when he saw a shining object flash across the road and land in a field near to Oak Lane.

Mr Murphy reported the matter to the police and went to the field with them, and while they were there they all saw a bright white light with a blue aura hovering in mid air.

The light fell and vanished, and minutes later, over a mile away, Mr Murphy and the police saw the same object hovering over the East Lancs Road.

Father of alien archaeology says the pyramids were not built by human hands… and claims he has proof

Updated: 17:00 EST, 25 January 2026

The belief that the pyramids were not built by human hands has fascinated conspiracy theorists for decades.

No one promoted that idea more persistently than Swiss author Erich von Däniken, often described as the father of ancient alien archaeology.

Von Däniken, who died this month aged 90, argued that extraterrestrial visitors played a direct role in helping ancient Egyptians construct monuments that would otherwise have been impossible.

In his 1968 bestseller 'Chariots of the Gods,' he claimed alien 'astronauts' visited early civilizations, including the ancient Egyptians and Mayans, and shared advanced technology.

As evidence, von Däniken pointed to the pyramids' precise engineering, unanswered questions about construction methods, striking mathematical and astronomical coincidences, and ancient carvings showing visiting beings.

He insisted the engineering precision of the Great Pyramid could not be explained by human skill alone, questioning how massive stone blocks were moved, how the structure was lit internally, and how builders appeared to possess advanced knowledge of mathematics, Earth, and space.

Taken together, he argued these mysteries proved the pyramids were not built solely by humans.

Despite his popularity, the claims have been repeatedly challenged by archaeologists and historians.

Research and archaeological evidence show large numbers of laborers were present in ancient Egypt, with records detailing how workers were fed and housed, along with cemeteries where they were buried.

Entire worker towns have also been discovered near pyramid sites, as well as quarries where stones were cut and transported.

Von Däniken is often described as the father of ancient alien archaeology because his bestselling books popularized and defined the idea that extraterrestrials influenced early human civilizations.

His works sold more than 60 million copies in 32 languages and helped push the theory that the pyramids were built with otherworldly assistance.

The Swiss author passed away on January 10, bringing his controversial ideas back into the spotlight.

The notion that aliens built the pyramids has appeared repeatedly in popular culture, from Futurama to Star Trek, and was recently endorsed by Elon Musk.

In July 2020, the billionaire posted on then-Twitter: 'Aliens built the pyramids obv.'

Von Däniken's work built on earlier theories suggesting non-human forces were responsible for the pyramids, including claims made by author Ignatius L. Donnelly, who proposed the structures were built by survivors of the lost civilization of Atlantis.

In 'Chariots of the Gods,' von Däniken argued that alien beings promised Egyptian pharaohs a 'second life,' which he said explained why rulers were mummified and buried with treasures intended for use after revival.

>>24176980

According to his theory, these god-like visitors would one day return from the stars to reawaken the preserved bodies of the dead.

Describing the Great Pyramid, von Däniken wrote: 'An artificial mountain some 490 feet high and weighing 31,200,000 tons stands there as an incredible achievement, and this monument is supposed to be nothing more than the burial place of an extravagant king! Anyone who can believe that explanation is welcome to it…'

'Drawings and sagas actually indicated that the 'gods' promised to return from the stars to awaken the well-preserved bodies to new life,' he continued, also claiming Egyptian carvings showed beings 'visiting' ancient people.

Although lacking formal archaeological training, von Däniken traveled to Egypt and Latin America and used books, lectures, and videos to spread his theories worldwide.

He repeatedly argued the technology required to build the pyramids did not exist in ancient Egypt, writing: 'There are many problems connected to the technology of the pyramid builders and few solutions.'

Among the mysteries he highlighted was the transportation of massive stone blocks, arguing that moving them on rollers would have required more wood than was available at the time.

He also claimed there was no evidence of workers or torches inside the Great Pyramid, suggesting the structure reflected scientific knowledge ancient humans could not have possessed.

'Is it really a coincidence that the height of the Pyramid of Cheops multiplied by 1,000 million corresponds approximately to the distance between the earth and sun?' he asked, before questioning whether it was a coincidence that a meridian running through the pyramid divided continents and oceans into two equal halves, and whether the pyramid's dimensions reflected the mathematical constant π.

'Is it a coincidence that calculations of the weight of the earth were found and is it also a coincidence that the rocky ground on which the structure stands is carefully and accurately levelled?' he further wrote.

Von Däniken went on to write 25 more books expanding on ancient alien theories, while television series such as Ancient Aliens introduced his ideas to a wider audience.

Nigel Watson, author of Portraits of Alien Encounters Revisited, said von Däniken's success was rooted in belief rather than evidence.

'At a time when there was the excitement surrounding the Apollo moon missions and the release of Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey, Daniken used a mixture of speculation to link virtually any ancient structure with alien visitations,' Watson said.

'Thumbing his nose at mainstream archaeology, he claimed aliens either directly built the pyramids or helped humans to build them,' Watson added. 'It did not matter what sceptics said, as this was all based on belief rather than facts.

'He exploited these beliefs, and he did not care whether they were true or not; they made him rich and famous. Some will see him as a cynical conman, others as a fearless pioneer who fought mainstream science.'

Scientist Says Congress Was Briefed on UFO Crash Retrieval and NHI Programs in Secret Rooms

26 January 2026, 10:08 AM GMT

A scientist who has consulted for the Pentagon on UFO programmes claims he has already shared some of the most explosive truths about recovered extraterrestrial technology with Congress.

Dr. Eric Davis, an astrophysicist, has stated that he briefed multiple congressional committees in secure rooms, revealing details about UFO crash retrievals, hardware reverse-engineering and Non-Human Intelligence programmes.

The briefings were conducted under conditions so controlled that the public remains largely unaware of the scope of what was disclosed.

How Congress Was Briefed in Secure Rooms

He has repeatedly emphasised that he has shared sensitive information with Congress under the strictest confidentiality.

He said he briefed the Senate Armed Services Committee staff in a Pentagon SCIF in October 2019, the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence in a controlled conference room the same month, and a defence company's secure access facility in June 2021.

Most recently, Davis appeared before Representative Marcos Luna's committee in a House SCIF in May.

In each case, the briefings involved detailed accounts of legacy UFO crash retrieval programmes, recovery of off-world vehicles, and reverse-engineering efforts aimed at understanding technology not made on this Earth.

Davis clarified that concerns over disclosure are not due to unwillingness but rather the strict Non-Disclosure Agreements that protect sensitive national security information.

What Was Revealed About UFO Crash Retrievals

Davis has explained that the programs he described to Congress include historic crash retrievals of unidentified aerial phenomena.

These programmes reportedly involve the recovery of hardware, materials and even possible biological specimens associated with off-world vehicles.

Some of this technology has allegedly been studied for decades to understand its properties, with the goal of reverse-engineering capabilities that could have national security implications.

The scientist has also highlighted that these programmes intersect with Non-Human Intelligence, meaning that some recovered artefacts or encounters suggest entities not originating from Earth.

While many details remain classified, Davis stressed that what he disclosed to congressional staff represents the most accurate picture of ongoing research in this secretive field.

Why Public Disclosure Is Restricted

Despite the multiple briefings, Davis stressed that full public disclosure is impossible without executive permission. He explained that if the President were to waive his NDAs, he could share everything publicly.

Until then, information is tightly controlled due to the potential impact on national security, global stability and even public perception.

Experts and commentators have suggested several reasons for this secrecy. First, revealing advanced technology could disrupt global markets and expose vulnerabilities in key industries.

Second, the knowledge of Non-Human Intelligence and possible hybrid programs could challenge societal norms and create widespread panic.

Third, maintaining secrecy ensures strategic advantage in both conventional and psychological arenas against rival powers.

The Broader Implications of What Was Shared

The briefings underscore that the US government has long considered UFO phenomena not just as a scientific curiosity, but as a matter of national security.

The existence of crash retrieval programmes and Non-Human Intelligence research indicates a multi-decade effort to catalogue, study and potentially utilise technology far beyond known human capability.

Davis' disclosures also show a growing awareness among lawmakers of the complexity of these programs.

While the public sees fragmented hearings and sensationalised reports, the reality is that select congressional staff have already been privy to information that could fundamentally alter our understanding of the universe.

In the end, Dr Davis' briefings provide a rare glimpse into secret rooms where decisions about UFOs, recovered technology, and non-human entities are made.

Whether this leads to broader transparency remains uncertain, but the revelation that Congress has already seen these programmes confirms that the universe's secrets may be closer to being understood than many realise.
