Blackstone Inc.

Blackstone Inc. is an American alternative investment management company headquartered in New York City. Founded in 1985 by Peter Peterson and Stephen Schwarzman, it is the world's largest alternative asset manager with over $1.2 trillion in assets under management as of 2025. The firm operates across private equity, real estate, credit, hedge funds, infrastructure, and insurance solutions. Stephen Schwarzman serves as Chairman and CEO, while Jonathan Gray is President and COO.

Blackstone began as a mergers and acquisitions advisory firm and later expanded into merchant banking and asset management. It launched its first private equity fund after the 1987 stock market crash and has since become a dominant player in leveraged buyouts and global real estate investments. Notable early moves include advising on the CBS Records sale to Sony and acquiring CNW Corporation in 1989.

Connection Between Blackstone, Larry Fink, and BlackRock

Yes, Blackstone and BlackRock are historically connected through Larry Fink and Steve Schwarzman.

In 1988, Larry Fink co-founded BlackRock as a risk management and fixed-income asset management firm under the umbrella of The Blackstone Group, which was co-founded by Steve Schwarzman and Peter Peterson in 1985.

Blackstone provided the initial $5 million in funding to launch the firm, then known as Blackstone Financial Management.

Due to strategic differences, BlackRock split from Blackstone in 1994, with Fink leading a management buyout. Blackstone retained a minority stake until fully exiting in 1994.

Schwarzman later called the decision to sell BlackRock his "worst business decision ever", as BlackRock grew into the worldโ€™s largest asset manager with over $11 trillion in assets under management (as of 2026).

Despite their split, the two firms have increasingly competed in areas like private equity, real estate, and infrastructure, with occasional speculation about further convergence.

can anon remind who was dopey.

was it Al Waleed bin Talal Al Saud

โ€“

Prince Al-Waleed bin Khaled bin Talal Al Saud, often referred to as the "Sleeping Prince" of Saudi Arabia, passed away at the age of 36 on July 20, 2025, after spending 20 years in a coma. He was the eldest son of Prince Khaled bin Talal Al Saud, a prominent Saudi royal and nephew of billionaire Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal Al Saud. The prince suffered a severe brain hemorrhage in a car accident in London in 2005 at the age of 15 while studying at a military college. He was subsequently transferred to King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh, where he remained on life support, relying on a ventilator and feeding tube, never regaining consciousness.

Despite brief moments of limited awareness reported in 2019, such as slight finger movements or head tilts, he did not recover. His father, Prince Khaled, consistently opposed medical advice to withdraw life support, stating, โ€œIf God had wanted him to die in the accident, he would have been in his grave now.โ€ Prince Al-Waleed is a great-grandson of King Abdulaziz Al Saud, the founder of modern Saudi Arabia, and a nephew of billionaire Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal Al Saud, the founder of Kingdom Holding Company. He is also a cousin of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who is the current heir apparent to the Saudi throne.

His funeral prayers were held at the Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque in Riyadh, with services for men and women, followed by public viewing at Al-Fakhariya Palace. The Global Imams Council extended condolences to the royal family, praising the familyโ€™s steadfast faith during the princeโ€™s prolonged illness.
