Tucker Carlson Presses Peter Schiff On Bitcoin As A New Global Reserve Currency

Speaking on Carlson’s show, he argued that Bitcoin is a speculative instrument with “no actual use” and warned that proposals for a US strategic reserve amount to a taxpayer‑funded bailout for early adopters.

Schiff also spent much of the conversation attacking official inflation data and fiscal policy, telling Carlson that Americans are “being lied to” about inflation, and arguing that the government changed the Consumer Price Index so that it could blame the private sector for the higher cost of living, when it was “simply raising prices in response to inflation.”

He singled out President Donald Trump’s signature Big Beautiful Bill as “the worst thing that we’ve done under Trump,” and argued that the legislation not only preserved all the deficit spending under President Joe Biden, but “made it worse” by “increasing government spending” and cutting taxes.

“Complete waste of capital”

Schiff turned to the crypto industry and complained about the US government “promoting” it, which is a “complete waste of capital” and has caused many Americans to “throw their money away” on crypto.

When Carlson cuts in to ask, “Why is it throwing it away?” and why betting on Bitcoin is any different from buying gold or stocks, Schiff answers that BTC has “no actual use” beyond speculation and “the only reason anybody wants to buy it” is that “they think the price is going to go up.” “That is the sole source of demand,” he said.

He added that people who “made money in crypto” only did so because “the crypto that they bought a long time ago went way up,” not because they produced anything of value, or made people’s lives better.

“How’s that different from buying gold? You’re not making anything. You’re not making anyone’s life better,” Carlson interjects, to which Schiff replies:

“There’s a big difference… [Bitcoin] is never going to earn money in the future. It is a non-income-producing digital asset. It’s got nothing in common with gold.”

Bitcoin: The new global reserve currency?

Summarizing Schiff’s arguments about the state of the global economy and the decline in purchasing power of the US dollar, Carlson asks why Bitcoin could not become the next global reserve asset as confidence in the dollar erodes.

Schiff dismisses that idea outright, claiming that a Bitcoin strategic reserve is really just a “Bitcoin bailout fund,” trying to use taxpayer money, and alleging that some early holders “were able to pay off a bunch of politicians and get them to support Bitcoin.”

He argues that both BTC and fiat currencies are ultimately faith‑based, but that central banks cannot rely on Bitcoin because it has no non‑monetary demand and would collapse if they ever tried to liquidate it at scale.

By contrast, he calls gold “real money” and “a valuable commodity” used in jewelry, aerospace, consumer electronics and medicine, and says that tokenized, fully backed gold on blockchains can deliver internet‑native payments without creating inflation or relying on ever‑rising token prices.

A bank is getting blown out of their shorts

Factcheck:

Yes, the Bloomberg article is accurate: Goldman Sachs’ head of precious metals trading, Benjamin Binet-Laisne, is leaving the bank amid talent competition in a bullion boom. No evidence supports the bank suffering losses on short positions; Goldman forecasts gold rising to $5,400/oz by end-2026.

Doomsday Clock moves to 85 seconds to midnight over threats from nuclear weapons, climate change and AI

Earth is closer to destruction than ever before as Russia, China, the United States and other nations grow “increasingly aggressive, adversarial and nationalistic,” a science-focused advocacy group said Tuesday as it moved its symbolic Doomsday Clock to 85 seconds to midnight.

The group cited the risks of nuclear war, climate change, the potential misuse of biotechnology and the growing use of artificial intelligence without adequate safeguards in its annual assessment of how close humanity is to catastrophe.

Last year, the clock stood at 89 seconds to midnight.

Since then, the group said, “hard-won global understandings are collapsing,” fueling a winner-takes-all competition among major powers and undermining the international cooperation needed to reduce existential risks.

The scientists pointed to escalating conflicts involving nuclear-armed nations, including the war between Russia and Ukraine, fighting between India and Pakistan in May and concerns over Iran’s nuclear capabilities following U.S. and Israeli strikes last summer.

International trust and cooperation are critical, said Daniel Holz, chair of the group’s Science and Security Board.

“If the world splinters into an us-versus-them, zero-sum approach, it increases the likelihood that we all lose,” he said.

The group also highlighted droughts, heat waves and flooding linked to climate change, along with what it described as the failure of governments to adopt meaningful agreements to curb global warming. It singled out President Donald Trump’s efforts to expand fossil fuel production and scale back renewable energy initiatives.

Founded in 1947, the Bulletin created the Doomsday Clock to symbolize the likelihood of human-made catastrophe. At the end of the Cold War, the clock was set at 17 minutes to midnight. In recent years, reflecting rapid global changes, the group has shifted from counting minutes to counting seconds.

The scientists said the clock could still be turned back if world leaders and nations work together to address the most serious global threats.

Prominent Filipino mayor target of horrifying RPG assault

Shocking footage has captured the moment a Filipino mayor was ambushed by assailants armed with a rocket launcher.

A mayor in the Philippines has escaped with his life after being ambushed by a gang of assailants armed with a rocket-propelled grenade (RPG), also known as a rocket launcher.

Horrifying footage of the attack shows a black Toyota SUV, carrying Mayor Akmad Ampatuan, pulling into a Caltex petrol station at around 6am on January 25.

Within moments, a man crouched behind a grey van across the street is seen launching the RPG, firing it directly into the SUV in the Shariff Aguak municipality of the Philippines.

A man in a red shirt is also seen with what appears to be a heavy-duty assault rifle, which he fires in the direction of the mayor.

The SUV is filmed quickly driving away, as smoke lingers on the rear of the vehicle.

According to local media, two of the mayor’s security personnel were injured, while three of the suspects were killed by a joint military-police team.

One of the suspects remains at large.

In a press conference on Monday, Mr Ampatuan told media that “this cannot happen again,” as he called for a heightened security detail.

“I didn’t think they would use a gun that large. An RPG is not something an ordinary person uses. This was professional,” he said.

Philippine National Police (PNP) spokesperson Randulf Tuaño said this was now the fourth attack against Mr Ampatuan, who has been in office since 2022.

The first was a roadside bombing in 2010, followed by an ambush in 2014, and another attack in 2019.

He was also subject to alleged harassment in July and December 2025.

Mr Ampatuan previously served as vice mayor and testified as a witness in the high-profile Maguindanao massacre case, where he testified against members of his extended family.

“The first angle we are looking at is local tension related to local politics, which may have resulted in the hiring of gunmen-for-hire,” said Mr Tuano.

Home Affairs Minister Bourke dodges questions on notice from Katter about China buying parts of Torres Strait

China wants to add the Horn Island International Airport to its Pacific ‘string of pearls’ assets

Republished from 2024

In response to Cairns News’ exclusive report exposing the Chinese government’s incursion of the Torres Strait trying to acquire property, Bob Katter MHR put a series of questions on notice to the Home Affairs Minister Tony Bourke.

Bourke wriggled and squirmed stepping sideways, refusing to answer Katter’s straightforward questions about Chinese investment in Australia.

The slippery member for Watson whose electorate comprises 13.2 per cent Lebanese and seven per cent Chinese voters simply said the questions about China acquiring land in the Torres Strait and on the Tip of Cape York Peninsula were a matter for the Foreign Affairs Minister and had nothing to do with him.

This is grubby Labor at it best, in its quest to open up the Far North for China, their ideological masters, and it now would seem obvious Labor will do nothing to prevent China’s tactical strategy enabling it a foothold in the vital Torres Strait seaway and on the mainland.

RESET: Catherine Austin Fitts Says the System Ends by 2030

Programmable money, central banking power, and a deadline most people aren't paying attention to.

According to her, the move away from traditional currency toward financial transaction control would amount to a constitutional break, replacing a republic-based system with centralized, oligarchic control.

Fitts, a former investment banker and founder of the Solari Report, says the timeline matters. With new financial legislation advancing and digital monetary infrastructure taking shape, she warns the transformation is being engineered now with an apparent target date of 2030.

Former Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office Employee and Slidell Resident Guilty of Theft and Bribery Conspiracy Concerning Program Receiving Federal Funds

NEW ORLEANS – U.S. Attorney David I. Courcelle announced that KENNETH LAWSON (“LAWSON”), age 39, a resident of New Orleans, and AREION BANKS (“BANKS”), age 33, a resident of Slidell, pled guilty today before United States District Judge Lance M. Africk to conspiracy to commit theft and bribery concerning a program receiving federal funds, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Sections 371, 666(a)(1)(A), and 666(a)(1)(B).

According to court documents, on or about August 10, 2023, the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) awarded the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office (OPSO) a $3.907 million Byrne Discretionary Grant entitled “Technology, Equipment, and Programming Improvements to Support People in Custody and Streamline Reentry” (“DOJ grant”). The purpose of the grant was, in part, to “aid in supporting the health and wellness of people in custody.” Grant funding was available to OPSO until the specified grant performance period end date of April 30, 2025.

LAWSON was employed by the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office (OPSO) as Grants Manager, in OPSO’s Grants Department, between about August 2022 and November 29, 2024. In that capacity, LAWSON possessed the ability to request grant payments from grant originators and to issue checks from OPSO to companies acting as subgrantees under grants received by OPSO.

LAWSON met BANKS in about March 2024. Shortly thereafter, LAWSON and BANKS devised a scheme in which LAWSON would exploit his position at OPSO to steal checks made out to subgrantees and convert them to cash. LAWSON agreed to accept a portion of the resulting cash in exchange for stealing checks. On one such occasion, on or about August 12, 2024, BANKS paid LAWSON approximately $5,900 after LAWSON successfully diverted approximately $15,000 from OPSO, without authorization, by exploiting LAWSON’s position with OPSO. In total, LAWSON and BANKS diverted, and attempted to divert, funds from OPSO in this manner on at least four occasions totaling more than $45,000, and BANKS made one payment to LAWSON.

Additionally, on about July 30, 2024, LAWSON incorporated an entity entitled “Williams James Assoc. LLC.” (“Williams James”) with the State of Louisiana and thereafter controlled and served as its registered agent and managing member. On the same day, he opened a business checking account at Gulf Coast Bank & Trust Co. (“Gulf Coast”) in the name of Williams James. Despite Williams James having no relationship with, or providing services to or on behalf of, OPSO, LAWSON in his professional capacity with OPSO, engaged in a digital transaction, requesting that the Department of Justice draw down a portion of the DOJ grant, without authorization, all designed for his personal benefit. Specifically, on or about July 30, 2024, LAWSON stole approximately $7,000 from OPSO by causing the deposit of a $7,000 OPSO check into the Williams James account. On or about August 30, 2024, LAWSON also caused approximately $75,000 from OPSO to be deposited in the Williams James account.

Slovakian Man Admits Aiding Darknet Market that Sold Drugs and Stolen Personal Information

ST. LOUIS – A Slovakian man on Tuesday admitted involvement in a darknet market that sold drugs and stolen personal information.

Alan Bill, 33, of Bratislava, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in St. Louis to one felony count of conspiracy to distribute controlled substances. He admitted involvement in the operation of Kingdom Market, a darknet marketplace that operated between March 2021 and December 2023. Kingdom users sold and bought illegal goods and services, including fentanyl, methamphetamine and other drugs, stolen financial information and identification documents, via cryptocurrency and anonymous or semi-anonymous accounts. Bill admitted assisting others in maintaining or operating Kingdom by providing or procuring web-administration services. He also admitted receiving cryptocurrency from a wallet associated with Kingdom, assisting with the creation of Kingdom’s forum pages on websites such as Reddit and Dread, having access to Kingdom usernames that made postings on behalf of Kingdom on social media accounts and communicating with others regarding certain Kingdom transactions.

Beginning around July 2022, undercover federal investigators made purchases from Kingdom market, including fentanyl, meth and a United States passport, that were shipped to the Eastern District of Missouri. Bill was arrested Dec. 15, 2023, at Newark Liberty International Airport after a customs inspection found two cellular telephones, a laptop, a thumb drive and a hardware wallet used to store cryptocurrency private keys. The electronics contained evidence of his involvement with Kingdom.

As part of his plea agreement, Bill also agreed to forfeit five different types of coins in a cryptocurrency wallet, as well as the Kingdommarket.live and Kingdommarket.so domains, which have been shut down by authorities.

Bill is scheduled to be sentenced on May 5. The drug trafficking conspiracy charge carries a penalty of at least five years in prison, with a maximum of 40, and the possibility of a fine of up to $5 million.

Co-Creator of Dark Web Marketplace Pleads Guilty in Chicago to Drug Conspiracy Charge

CHICAGO — A Virginia man who co-created and operated “Empire Market”—a dark web marketplace that enabled users to anonymously buy and sell illegal goods and services—has pleaded guilty in Chicago to a federal drug conspiracy charge.

RAHEIM HAMILTON, 30, of Suffolk, Va., entered the guilty plea on Monday in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. The conviction is punishable by a mandatory minimum sentence of ten years in federal prison and a maximum of life. U.S. District Judge Steven C. Seeger set sentencing for June 17, 2026.

The guilty plea was announced by Andrew S. Boutros, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois, Douglas S. DePodesta, Special Agent-in-Charge of the Chicago Field Office of the FBI, Mary Johnson, Acting Inspector-in-Charge of the Chicago Division of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, and Michael Alfonso, Acting Special Agent-in-Charge of the New York Field Office of Homeland Security Investigations. The government is represented by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Melody Wells and Ann Marie Ursini.

Hamilton and THOMAS PAVEY co-owned and operated Empire Market from 2018 to 2020. During that time, the online market facilitated more than four million transactions between vendors and buyers valued at more than $430 million, making it one of the largest dark web marketplaces of its kind at the time. The illegal products and services available on the site included controlled substances, compromised or stolen account credentials, stolen personally identifying information, counterfeit currency, and computer-hacking tools. Sales of controlled substances were the most prevalent activity, with net drug sales totaling nearly $375 million over the life of the site.

Hamilton admitted in a plea agreement that he and Pavey designed Empire Market to help its users avoid detection by law enforcement and to assist users with laundering money from the illicit transactions. Hamilton and Pavey established that all transactions on the site must be conducted using only cryptocurrency. As part of the plea agreement, Hamilton agreed to forfeit certain ill-gotten proceeds, including, among things, approximately 1,230 bitcoin and 24.4 Ether, as well as three properties in Virginia.

Tim Walz Declares Victory, Bashes ICE and Trump Administration Ahead of Meeting with Tom Homan – “This Doesn’t End with Greg Bovino”

Walz: We’re appreciative folks are out there. Look, I don’t know how to describe it, other than an assault. I’ve never witnessed anything like this, and I think as good as the reporting has been, it doesn’t touch just every little issue and our children watching people get drug. I mean, everyone here has a trauma response, you know, just pretty overwhelming. But I have to say, what you witnessed was, is what massive organized nonviolent resistance did.

To be very clear, there’s a change in tone, and we’ll see. I’m going to meet here later today with Tom Homan. I understand Greg Bovino is gone, you know, and that’s a good riddance, one. But it doesn’t change the fact that the posture is still the same, that this is a unorganized, untrained, dangerous force on the streets that has nothing to do with either immigration or law enforcement. So, I’ll tell you today, there’s there’s a bit of optimism, but there’s such a sense of resolve.

And I would say this is the Minnesota kind of attitude. A lot of folks think winter is over in March. Minnesotans don’t let their guard down ‘till May. And I’m telling you, these folks that are out there on the streets, they’re very skeptical, and rightfully so. So, the mood is, there’s a hint of hope and optimism, but there is a resolve that says, you know, the end of this is not Greg Bovino leaving. The end of this is a sane policy on how you do immigration reform and stop an attack by the federal government on the state.

Coinbase CEO Reveals AI "Oracle" Now Helping Him Run Company

A steady drumbeat of media reports has warned about AI wiping out entry-level jobs and even eliminating some middle-management positions, but the prospect of AI taking over the job of CEO, or at least parts of some executive functions, could be a reality sooner than we think.

Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong has revealed that he has deployed an internal, self-hosted AI model that functions as a centralized “oracle,” ingesting every Slack message and Google document to create a unified, aggregated repository of the company’s communications.

Speaking with “All-In” co-host Jason Calacanis during an interview in Davos, Armstrong explained how the system has evolved from a basic productivity aid into a strategic advisor widely adopted across teams, including legal and finance.

“One of the big pushes we made in the last year was um we got our own internal hosted AI model that was connected to all of our data sources, right?” Armstrong said. “It's like every Slack message, every Google doc, every Salesforce data, Confluence. So now this is all linked up in one like the data is all aggregated and you can ask these agents. Every team is using it."

"It's like the oracle of Coinbase,” Calacanis interrupted.

"Yeah," the Coinbase leader replied.

China's Largest Oil Producer Suspends Purchases Of Venezuela Oil

Chinese state-owned giant PetroChina, Asia's largest oil and gas producer, which hasn’t bought Venezuelan crude since the U.S. imposed sanctions on Venezuela in 2019, is not too keen to start buying again after the U.S. authorized global traders to market the crude from the world’s biggest reserves holder, OilPrice reports.

PetroChina has told traders not to buy or trade Venezuela’s oil - a trade that is now under U.S. control after the capture of Nicolas Maduro, trading sources with knowledge of the matter told Reuters on Tuesday.

The Chinese oil and gas giant stopped imports of Venezuelan crude in 2019, when the first Trump Administration slapped sanctions on Venezuela’s oil sector, for fear of running afoul of the restrictions. Before the 2019 sanctions, PetroChina was the single biggest buyer of crude from Venezuela.

Now PetroChina is refraining from buying crude marketed by the world’s top oil trading houses – with U.S. blessing – as it assesses the situation, according to Reuters’ sources.

One reason is the concern that the U.S. controls the oil from Venezuela, another is that the offers aren’t competitive compared to other supplies of heavy crude, including from Canada, the sources told the publication.

The discount of Venezuela’s flagship crude grade Merey relative to Brent has narrowed by about $10 per barrel since the ousting of Maduro.

Vitol, the world’s biggest independent oil trader, is offering Venezuelan crude to Chinese refiners at a discount that’s three times narrower compared to the illicit sales from Venezuela before Maduro’s ousting, anonymous traders with knowledge of the development told Bloomberg last week.

Vitol has recently offered cargoes of Venezuela’s flagship Merey heavy sour crude grade to China at a discount of $5 per barrel to ICE Brent, according to Bloomberg’s sources.

This compares with a discount as wide as $15 a barrel to ICE Brent on a delivered basis before the U.S. blitz in Venezuela and the capture of Maduro.

Meanwhile, Chinese independent refiners, which gorged on cheap sanctioned Venezuelan crude in the past few years, are likely welcoming what could be their last imports of sanctioned Venezuelan oil, which loaded before the U.S. blockade.

A hacker posted a Marine vet’s health info online and bragged about it

The man posted stolen health records to an Instagram account that was literally named "@hackedthegovernment." He just pleaded guilty in federal court.

A Tennessee man is facing prison time for hacking into a Department of Veterans Affairs health platform, accessing a Marine Corps veteran’s personal health information, and posting it on an Instagram feed he named “@hackedthegovernment,” federal officials said.

Nicholas Moore, 24, pleaded guilty Jan. 16 in federal court to hacking the VA-run My HealtheVet site, Department of Justice officials announced this week. Veterans use the platform to manage their personal health records like prescribed medications, send “secure messages to communicate privately” with their health providers, schedule appointments, and order medical supplies.

According to the DOJ, Moore was able to access the VA health platform for five days in late 2023 by using stolen login credentials of a Marine Corps veteran, which court documents identified as “HW.” Prosecutors did not indicate whether the former Marine was aware of Moore’s hacking, nor did they explain how Moore accessed the veteran’s login credentials

Moore sent screenshots of the veteran’s personal health information, which included his medication prescriptions, to “an associate” on Oct. 13, 2023, according to court filings. On Oct. 15, he posted screenshots to the @hackedthegovernment account, “boasting of his access to the VA’s servers and to HW’s personal information,” officials said in court documents. The screenshots included the veteran’s full name, address, service, email, phone number, and blood type.

The account was not publicly accessible on Instagram this week.

The details of Moore’s hacking were included in a plea agreement signed by Moore and entered into the D.C. district federal court on Jan. 16. An inquiry sent to Moore’s lawyer was not immediately returned.

My HealtheVet is “operated on computer servers located in various jurisdictions in the United States. These servers are used in and affected interstate commerce and communication,” according to the DOJ. In October 2023, the VA announced that it was moving its My HealtheVet to the VA.gov website, putting all VA benefits and services in one place, rather than on separate platforms.

“VA takes veterans’ privacy seriously. We continuously evaluate systems security and regularly implement measures to strengthen protections of veterans’ personal information. VA has been in contact with the veteran in this case,” VA press secretary Pete Kasperowicz told Task & Purpose in a statement.

Moore also pleaded guilty to using stolen credentials to hack into the U.S. Supreme Court’s electronic filing system for nearly a month and MyAmeriCorps servers in 2023. In both incidents, he also posted screenshots of the user’s name and information on his @ihackedthegovernment Instagram.

Moore pleaded guilty to one count of fraud activity in connection with computers, which carries a possible one-year prison sentence and a fine of up to $100,000. He was released from custody, according to court filings. His sentencing hearing is set for April, DOJ officials said in the release.

NY police detective faces federal charges in child exploitation case

A Nassau County Police Detective faces federal charges in upstate New York, after the feds say he tried to get an undercover officer to videotape himself sexually abusing his 10-year-old daughter.

The would-be grade school victim wasn’t real, though, and Det. Robert Sacco’s creepy three-month exchange with her “father” ended with his arrest on attempted sexual exploitation of a child, according to prosecutors in Albany.

Sacco, 38, of Huntington, N.Y., appeared in Brooklyn Federal Court Saturday, and is locked up until his first appearance in federal court in Albany at a later date.

The undercover officer has a social media profile that states he “love[d] talking kink and taboo with people and have very little limitations,” according to a criminal complaint. Sacco took the bait in October 2025, first asking about nudism in the home, then becoming more and more interested in the idea that the undercover was naked in the house with his “daughter.”

The conversation moved onto sex talk and photo exchanges, and online purchases of underwear and sex toys, according to a criminal complaint.

On Friday, a day before his arrest, Sacco joined an encrypted video call, hoping to watch the undercover officer engage in sex acts with the child, the feds said. When the “daughter” wouldn’t come out of her room, the feds allege, he asked if the undercover would be willing to postpone the encounter, according to the complaint.

“The defendant, a 38-year-old Nassau County Police Department Detective, is charged with attempted sexual exploitation of a child. In short, the defendant, a police officer sworn to protect, intended to sexually exploit a 10-year-old girl,” prosecutors wrote in a filing Friday. “Accordingly, he should be detained as a danger to the community.”

SAN DIEGO (CNS) — A former Navy detective and El Cajon police officer recently sentenced for using excessive force on a detained sailor at Naval Base San Diego was sentenced today to 20 years in prison for conspiring to distribute child sex abuse material.

Jonathan Christopher Laroche pleaded guilty to communicating with others over the internet about creating and sharing videos and images depicting the sexual abuse of minors.

In communications with a darknet user who claimed to run a business that paid people to share and/or create such material, Laroche described sexually abusing a minor victim and his intent to create videos with the juvenile, court documents state.

Laroche also described uploading files that allegedly depicted the sexual abuse of a child, but law enforcement officials said in court documents that they were "not in possession of the specific files he uploaded on the darknet."

Other evidence cited in court papers includes records of sex toy and child clothing purchases made by Laroche, which were delivered to his Spring Valley home.

The online communications occurred while Laroche was employed with the Navy, a job prosecutors say he only secured by lying on his job application regarding the reasons why he left the El Cajon Police Department.

Prosecutors say that during his time with the El Cajon PD, he used excessive force on multiple people, leading the department to inform him that he was going to be terminated.

Rather than appeal the termination, he resigned in 2018, then later joined the Navy, where he was charged by federal prosecutors for choking a handcuffed sailor to the point of unconsciousness in November 2023.

As part of his guilty plea in the excessive force case, Laroche agreed to never seek future employment with law enforcement agencies.

He was set to report to prison last year for a 15-month sentence for the Navy incident when prosecutors filed the sex crime case against him.

The 20-year term was the maximum possible prison sentence that could be imposed, but U.S. District Judge James Simmons said he would have sentenced Laroche to more time were it possible.

"Frankly, 20 years is not enough time," said the judge, who described Laroche's actions as "reprehensible."
