A federal appeals court on Friday vacated an activist judge’s injunction blocking President Trump’s executive orders aimed at eliminating DEI policies.

President Trump previously signed two Executive Orders that instructed agencies in the executive branch to end discriminatory DEI policies: One EO directed DEI policies to be eliminated in federal agencies and the other EO targeted recipients of federal grants.

“The Biden Administration forced illegal and immoral discrimination programs, going by the name “diversity, equity, and inclusion” (DEI), into virtually all aspects of the Federal Government, in areas ranging from airline safety to the military,” Trump’s executive order said.

“This was a concerted effort stemming from President Biden’s first day in office, when he issued Executive Order 13985, “Advancing Racial Equity and Support for Underserved Communities Through the Federal Government,” Trump said.

Last year, a Biden-appointed federal judge entered a preliminary injunction against Trump’s Executive Orders.

The case was brought by the Mayor and City Council of Baltimore, Maryland and three national associations.

Last year, a three-judge panel on the Virginia-based 4th Circuit Court of Appeals – Chief Judge Albert Diaz (Obama), Judge Pamela Harris (Obama), and Judge Allison Blair Jones Rushing (Trump) granted the government’s motion for a stay of the preliminary injunction.

However, last year’s ruling from the three-judge panel was not a final decision on the merits of the case. The circuit court judges merely lifted the preliminary injunction as the case makes its way through the legal system.

Canada’s economy is on life support, the nation is in a clear recession watch, and the Bank of Canada needs to cut interest rates further, says an economist.

A new report from Rosenberg Research, Canadian Economy on Life Support, shows that despite interest rate cuts from a high of five per cent in 2024, per capita GDP is still falling, and the economy is growing at only one per cent annually.

Moreover, the housing and manufacturing sectors are struggling with home prices down two per cent year-over-year. Manufacturing, which heavily relies on U.S. trade, is down five percent.

“It’s clear to me, unless the policy lags are just a lot longer this time around, that this is what 275 basis points of bank Canada rate cuts delivers: the grand total of one per cent growth economy,” David Rosenberg, chief economist and founder of Rosenberg Research, told BNN Bloomberg.

“The next question is, is that all you get?”

The report states that the economy is expected to shrink in the fourth quarter, falling by an annualized 0.5 per cent quarter-over-quarter. This is lower than the Bank of Canada’s forecast of 0.0 per cent.

Internal government orders show Ottawa has authorized another $1.008 billion to keep Canada Post afloat—after its own CFO admitted the Crown corporation is “effectively insolvent.”

The federal government has quietly approved up to another $1.008 billion in emergency funding for Canada Post, a labour-strife-plagued Crown corporation whose own chief financial officer now admits is “effectively insolvent.”

The approval came through Order in Council P.C. 2026-0054, dated January 30, authorizing the Minister of Finance to provide additional funds so the postal service can meet its operating expenses through March 31, 2026.

This is on top of the $1.034 billion already approved last year for the same period.

In other words, taxpayers are now potentially on the hook for more than $2 billion in a single fiscal year just to keep Canada Post functioning.

The bailout comes as the corporation reported an unprecedented $541 million quarterly loss in late 2025, pushing its total losses for the year past $1 billion. During public disclosures, Canada Post’s CFO said plainly that the organization is now “effectively insolvent.”

Revenue continues to decline amid shrinking letter mail volumes, ongoing labour instability, and intense parcel competition from private carriers. The corporation has warned that previously approved federal support could be exhausted before the end of the fiscal year.

Canada Post has now posted losses for eight consecutive years.

Despite that, Ottawa continues to backstop the Crown corporation’s operating shortfalls rather than pursuing structural reform.

Canada has officially opened its new consulate in Greenland, a move that Ottawa says will bolster cooperation on Arctic governance and security.

Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand attended the opening in Greenland’s capital of Nuuk on Feb. 6 alongside Governor General Mary Simon. Simon is part Inuit, sharing a similar heritage to many Greenlanders who are Inuit, better known there as Kalaallit.

Anand helped raise a Canadian flag outside the consulate to mark its official opening, which was also attended by Canada’s ambassador to the Kingdom of Denmark Carolyn Bennett and Arctic Ambassador Virginia Mearns. The flag raising was followed by the crowd singing “O Canada.”

The new consulate is meant to strengthen bilateral and commercial relations between Canada and Greenland, which is a self-governing Danish territory, and enhance cooperation on Arctic governance and security, Foreign Affairs Canada said in a Feb. 4 statement. Government Tables Bill Giving Build Canada Homes Land Acquisition Power

The Liberal government has tabled legislation that would make its housing agency into a Crown corporation and give it the authority to acquire and develop land and the ability to partner with private developers to build homes.

“We are in a housing crisis, one that is the result of three decades of underinvestment in the construction and maintenance of Canada’s affordable housing. At this pivotal time, Canadians elected us with a mandate to build,” Housing Minister Gregor Robertson said when introducing the Build Canada Homes Act on Feb. 5 in Parliament.

Since Build Canada Homes (BCH) was launched in September 2025, the agency has advanced six major affordable housing projects, which Robertson said would create more than 4,000 homes.

Robertson said the new legislation would give the agency the ability to provide partners with a “flexible mix of financial tools,” such as low-interest loans and loan guarantees to equity investments.

BCH would also be able to acquire and develop property and build on public land. Robertson said Canada Lands Company, which has an “existing land bank of property that can be developed,” will move under the new agency. The Liberal government previously said this included 88 federal properties suitable for housing.

Robertson said BCH will also invest in making modern methods of construction and building technologies more readily available. He said the previous day, BCH launched a request for information to engage Canadian companies specializing in prefabricated systems. Continue…

China Overturns Death Sentence Against Canadian Citizen Schellenberg: Reports

China has overturned a death sentence for Canadian citizen Robert Lloyd Schellenberg who has been convicted of drug charges, according to multiple media reports on Feb. 6.

The Supreme People’s Court of China overturned the B.C. native’s death sentence on Feb. 6, with Schellenberg’s lawyer reportedly saying that the case will be retried.

Global Affairs Canada (GAC) said it is aware of “a decision” on the case and noted that Ottawa has long supported “clemency” for Schellenberg and for all Canadians sentenced to death.

“Due to privacy considerations, no further information can be provided,” spokesperson Clémence Grevey told The Epoch Times.

“GAC will continue to provide consular services to Mr. Schellenberg and to his family.” Continue…

Conservative MP and democratic reform critic Michael Cooper is raising concerns about Ottawa’s new agreement with Beijing on cooperation between law enforcement agencies, saying China poses a security threat to Canada.

Cooper asked Public Safety Minister Gary Anandasangaree, as he was testifying before the House of Commons Procedure and House Affairs committee on Feb. 5, whether China is a rule of law state and whether it has an independent judiciary.

“I’m not here as a foreign policy expert, nor an expert on China,” Anandasangaree responded.

Cooper said that Beijing “is not a rule of law state. They don’t have an independent judiciary, they don’t have civilian oversight of law enforcement, they don’t respect human rights, they’re actively perpetrating genocide, among other crimes against humanity.”

He added that the fact that Anandasangaree wouldn’t answer no to his questions shows that the government is “prepared to downplay and whitewash the serious interference of human rights abuses, among other outrageous conduct by a brutal dictatorship, all in the name of this new strategic partnership with that brutal dictatorship.”

Cooper also asked the minister why Ottawa has agreed to pursue cooperation on law enforcement with Beijing, given the Chinese regime has engaged in transnational repression targeting Chinese diaspora communities in Canada, has “shown no respect for Canada’s sovereignty,” and has threatened the safety and security of Canadians.
