On Thursday, Alabama Governor, Republican Kay Ivey, signed the Child Predator Death Penalty Act into law in order to protect the state’s children from child predators.

The Child Predator Death Penalty Act, sponsored by state Rep. Matt Simpson and state Sen. April Weaver, who are both Republicans, strengthens Alabama’s criminal penalties against those who are convicted of felony sexual crimes against a child.

Crimes of first-degree rape, first-degree sodomy, and first-degree sexual assault of victims under the age of 12 would automatically become elevated from Class A felonies to capital crimes eligible for the death penalty (or life without parole).

Meanwhile, Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder accused Trump of showing disrespect toward Europe.

“We will respect your leadership,” Soder said. “But maybe you pay us a little more respect.”

Back in December, Merz denounced parts of the latest U.S. National Security strategy as “unacceptable.”

The governor stated that the legislation:

“aims to maintain consistency between civil and criminal provisions by recognizing the unborn child as a human being.”

The newly signed measure alters the legal definition of murder in Puerto Rico’s Penal Code to include the death of an unborn child — meaning that the killing of a fetus during a violent crime against a pregnant woman can now be prosecuted accordingly.

The move builds on prior legislation signed in late 2025, including Law 183-2025 (formerly SB 504), which formally recognizes that:

the conceived child “at any stage of gestation within the mother’s womb” is a natural person under Puerto Rican civil law.

In legal terminology, a “natural person” is a human being with inherent legal rights — as opposed to an artificial legal entity such as a corporation.

The civil code revision now explicitly includes:

• The unborn child as a human being

• Legal recognition from the moment of conception

• Eligibility for inheritance and dependent status under certain legal frameworks

Mere days after the US-backed government in Taipei launched the so-called Joint Firepower Coordination Center (JFCC), defined as “an enhanced firepower coordination effort in close cooperation with the United States”, multirole sources have confirmed that the Chinese breakaway island province of Taiwan is deploying the overhyped and exorbitantly overpriced M142 HIMARS MLRS (multiple launch rocket system) to the islands of Penghu and Dongyin.

The US-made system is also equipped with ATACMS missiles, extending its reach to 300 km. Taipei insists that this will “strengthen the effectiveness of the kill chain”, while its Ministry of Defense (MoD) stressed that the increase in HIMARS orders to 111 units was undertaken specifically to forward-deploy them to the islands closest to China’s mainland.

Dongyin, the northernmost island of the Matsu archipelago in the East China Sea, (see Map) is located around 10 km from mainland China. Deploying missiles such as the ATACMS there puts virtually the entire Fujian province within range, including key cities like Fuzhou, Ningde and Quanzhou.

However, the situation is even worse, given that the US controls those missiles through the JFCC. Its establishment and the permanent deployment of American personnel at command and control facilities in Taipei to oversee planning and potential use of ATACMS missiles in case of yet another US/NATO-orchestrated escalation are deeply troubling and concerning for Beijing.

However, Taipei is still trying to present it as “harmless assistance in coordination and supervision”. They’re just not saying for what.

Obviously, China is not buying it and for good reason. Namely, the JFCC allows Washington DC to select targets and finalize attack plans.Formally, this is done jointly with local forces, but we all know how the Pentagon uses vassals and satellite states, especially when it comes to striking strategic assets such as critical industrial and scientific infrastructure, both of which are found in abundance across mainland China. “We have removed the user account connected to this horrifying incident as well as any content associated with the suspect,” a Roblox spokesperson said in a statement on Thursday.

The game, which depicted a blocky, cartoon character wielding various weapons and shooting others in a shopping mall setting, was initially discovered not by police, but by users on the online forum Kiwi Farms. Trans school shooter Jesse Van Rootselaar, who murdered his mother as well as his 11-year-old stepbrother, has tried to kill his family before, according to a report from the Telegraph. Van Roostelaar, a man who identified as a woman, shot his family members then murdered several school children and a teacher before turning the gun on himself at Tumbler Ridge in Canada.

Melanie, a neighbor who lives a few houses down from where the shooter took the life of his family, told the outlet, “A couple of years back, he lit their house on fire because he was trying to kill his own family… it almost completely burnt down. He was just sitting out in the front when the fire trucks arrived."

Melanie, who did not provide her last name, said that "everyone on the street saw the blaze," which destroyed the inside of the Canadian home. The incident, however, was later "dismissed" by the police. The outlet said that authorities have not confirmed the incident.

Van Rootselaar has a history of mental illness, and police have been called a number of times to the home related to mental health episodes as well as firearm incidents. The outlet reports that in a social media post, Van Rootselaar mentioned the alleged arson attack, saying that he was under the influence of psychedelic mushrooms at the time. Continue…

Supreme Court annuls single-vote margin Liberal victory in key Quebec riding

The Supreme Court of Canada has invalidated the single-vote victory of Liberal Tatiana Auguste in the Terrebonne riding, who had been declared the winner of the April 28 general election, granting an appeal by Bloc Quebecois candidate Nathalie Sinclair-Desgagne.

The results went back and forth on election night between the two candidates, with final preliminary results showing a 25-vote win for the Liberal candidate, per The Gazette. Upon validation, there was a 44-vote lead for then-incumbent Sinclair-Desgagne. A judicial recount placed the win back with Auguste by a single vote.

Sinclair-Desgagne challenged the results after a Bloc Quebecois voter tried to vote by mail, but her ballot was returned to her due to an error with the postal code printed on the label supplied by Elections Canada.

Sworn statements in the case showed that an Elections Canada employee discovered he had printed his own postal code on several special ballots around three weeks before election day by mistake. At least 40 of these ballots went out to voters, however, the employee said he didn’t think it was necessary to inform his superior because the number of ballots returned to the elections office had not been higher than in past elections.

A superior court justice ruled in October that the postal code error did not constitute an irregularity under federal electoral law, but Sinclair-Desgagne appealed to the Supreme Court, saying the decision "contains several errors of fact as well as an interpretation of the law and jurisprudence that invites an appeal." The superior court justice had ruled, " is a simple human error, which sometimes occurs in general elections, committed inadvertently and without any dishonest or malicious intent."

Sinclair-Desgagné said outside the courtroom after Friday’s ruling, "The Supreme Court decided today that every vote counts, that one person’s vote is not worth more than another person’s vote, and that, in the event of a tie, the election must be rerun."

"Until today, there was someone sitting who, nevertheless, lacked the legitimacy to do so. Fortunately, that has been rectified today," she added. Auguste had been the MP for the riding since being sworn in on May 22.

The vacant seat brings the Liberal Party’s seat countdown to 168, four short of a majority. Elections Canada said that a byelection will be called within 180 days to fill the seat.

Freeland Violated Election Act in Press Conference Comments: Elections Canada

Former Liberal MP and cabinet minister Chrystia Freeland violated Elections Act by commenting on a 2024 Toronto byelection in favour of her party during official government press conferences, Canada’s elections commissioner says.

Caroline Simard, commissioner of Elections Canada, said in a report released on Feb. 13 that Freeland’s comments amounted to “unlawful contributions” to a political entity.

The report specifies that Freeland violated the act at two press conferences where she stated her support for Liberal candidate Leslie Church in a 2024 byelection in the riding of Toronto—St. Paul’s. Freeland was deputy prime minister and minister of finance at the time of the two press conferences held on June 23 and 24, 2024.

The commissioner said that Freeland’s comments came in response to questions from reporters, and that she wasn’t aware she’s in violation of the rules when she provided her responses in support of the Liberal candidate. Continue…

CSIS Official Says China Tops Russia as ‘Primary Threat’ in the Arctic

Although China is not an Arctic country like Russia, its activities in the region are raising greater concern for the Canadian Security Intelligence Service, according to a senior official.

Paul Lynd, an assistant director with the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS), told MPs on Feb. 12 that though Russia maintains a “tremendous interest and focus” on the Arctic, China poses the greatest threat in the region.

“[Russia is] of less concern than say, the activities of China and other hostile state actors at this time,” Lynd said. He specified that Russia does pose a military threat in the Arctic, which falls more under the purview of National Defence, and that the threat from China involves foreign interference and economic security.

“It’s a primary threat,” Lynd said about China in the Arctic.

Lynd, who holds the rank of an assistant deputy minister, is the CSIS executive in charge of overseeing all of the agency’s collection activities and operations, whether in Canada or abroad. He was appearing before the House of Commons foreign affairs committee, which is currently conducting a study on Canada’s Arctic strategy.

Lynd said concerns about Chinese activities in Canada’s Arctic relate to the use of underhanded means to acquire assets. The CSIS official specifically noted how China is currently attempting to dominate the critical minerals sector. Continue…

Police arrested at least one demonstrator Friday outside the office of Montreal-based private security giant GardaWorld, which is reportedly helping staff the Florida detention site known as “Alligator Alcatraz.”

About 1,000 Montrealers protested against the province’s investments in GardaWorld outside the company’s headquarters near Place Vertu shopping mall in the St-Laurent borough on Friday afternoon. A subsidiary of the Canadian company was approved by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to compete for US$138 million (CAN$190 million) of contracts for emergency detention services, government records show.

The protest drew people from the left-leaning party Québec solidaire, Amnesty International and union representatives from the Confédération des syndicats nationaux and the Fédération Autonome de l’Enseignement.

“Our tax dollars are directly contributing to companies which are complicit in the crimes against humanity being committed by ICE,” said protest organizer Celeste Trianon. Quebec’s provincial investment agency, Investissement Québec, invested $300 million in GardaWorld in 2022. She pointed to the ICE killings of U.S. citizens Renée Good and Alex Pretti in Minneapolis, and the violent deportations of many people of colour, as reasons for organizing the protest. Continue…
