In June of 2024, Puerto Rico encountered numerous problems while conducting their primary elections. The Gateway Pundit reported that vote counts were reported as lower than the paper counts. Some voting systems reversed totals, while some reported zero votes for certain candidates. The discrepancies were attributed to a “software issue,” according to the Puerto Rico Election Commission’s interim president at the time, Jessika Padilla-Rivera.

There wasn’t much reporting on the American territory and the problems they had surrounding that election. However, it did cause the election commission in the territory to call into question its contract with Dominion Voting Systems prior to the November 2024 election.

In an “exclusive” story published on Wednesday, Reuters claimed that a team working for Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard “led an investigation into Puerto Rico’s voting machines,” according to Gabbard’s office and three sources familiar with the previously unreported events.

A Brampton Transit bus ran a red light and plowed into multiple vehicles in a collision Wednesday afternoon that sent at least 10 people to hospital, according to early reports and social media footage.

Peel Regional Police were called to the intersection of Queen St. East and Hansen Road just before 3 p.m., where officers found a chaotic scene involving eight vehicles, including the public transit bus.

Police said the intersection was closed for several hours as emergency crews treated the sick and injured and cleared the wreckage; it has since reopened.

Ten people were treated by paramedics, with most injuries described as minor and one person suffering more serious harm, police said.

A Surrey man is paying the price for speeding after BC Highway Patrol clocked his Lamborghini SUV going 197 km/h — nearly three times the posted 70 km/h limit — on the Alex Fraser Bridge.

The 51-year-old driver was stopped just after 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, 2026, northbound on the Delta span.

A laser speed reader captured the vehicle travelling well above other traffic, prompting officers to pull the car over.

“Some drivers seem to think that bridges are free from speed enforcement. That is a foolish and dangerous assumption. Bridges are no strangers to deadly collisions,” said Cpl. Michael McLaughlin of BC Highway Patrol.

“Driving over double the speed limit is extremely dangerous to you, your passengers, and everyone around you.”

The driver and his two passengers were collected by family, but the Lamborghini is now impounded for seven days at the owner’s expense. Continue…

Carmaker Stellantis is selling its stake in a mega battery factory in Windsor, Ont., to its joint venture partner, Korean company LG Energy Solution.

The two companies announced plans on Feb. 6 for Stellantis to sell its 49 percent stake in NextStar Energy, the multi-billion dollar project first announced in 2022. The transaction is to be completed for the nominal amount of $100.

The parties said the transaction reflects a “mutually agreed, strategic decision” that will help NextStar reach new customers in the field of energy storage systems. Meanwhile, Stellantis said it would remain a customer of battery products manufactured at the Windsor plant.

“By enabling LG Energy Solution to fully leverage the Windsor facility’s capacity, we are strengthening its long-term viability while securing the battery supply for our electric vehicles,” said Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa in a statement.

Stellantis and LG said over $5 billion have been invested in the facility so far, which employs over 1,300 people with a long-term target of 2,500 workers. NextStar had announced the start of mass production of lithium-ion battery cells in November 2025.

The federal government and the province of Ontario had made an agreement in 2023 to provide $15 billion in performance incentives to Stellantis and LG Energy Solution, as it pursued investments in battery production to build an electric vehicle (EV) supply chain. Continue…

Saskatchewan’s Court of Appeal has rejected an attempt by the City of Prince Albert to revoke the property tax exemption status of a local church, ruling that hosting a bake sale doesn’t classify the church as a commercial entity.

The court rejected the theory that a church hosting a sale or fundraiser would jeopardize its tax-exempt status in the Feb. 3 ruling, saying it is the primary use of the property that dictates its status.

The dispute started in 2023 when a city assessor determined that the exemption status of Embassy Church in Prince Albert’s downtown core was largely invalid, according to the ruling.

The church’s main building is used for several different purposes, the court decision notes. It serves as a church but it also houses a registered independent school, and a day care facility. It includes space that is leased to third parties, and areas that can be rented on a one-time basis by members of the public for social or business functions. It also contains a second stand-alone building with a convenience store.

The assessor determined the school portion of the property was exempt, but the remainder was not, a decision the court described as “a dramatic change from the way the property had been dealt with in the past.”

Embassy Church agreed that the portion of the property that includes the stand-alone convenience store and the space rented to third parties on a long-term basis should be subject to taxation, but contested the taxation of the remainder of the space, the ruling said. Continue…

He said police must be “abundantly cautious” and ensure investigations are deliberate and methodical, including consideration of whether a national security element may be present, but added that in this case the service does not believe such an element exists.

Igor Makarov has waged two unsuccessful Canadian court battles in an attempt to be removed from the sanctions list aimed at punishing those associated with Russia’s war on Ukraine. The oil and gas magnate recently filed a request for arbitration with the International Centre for the Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), which bills itself as an autonomous international institution affiliated with the World Bank. In it, Makarov argues that because he’s now a citizen of Moldova, as well as Cyprus where he lives, Canada violated its treaty with the former by freezing his Canadian assets.
