Nolte: Rotten Tomatoes — Audiences Rave for ‘Melania’ with 98% Rating While Bitter Critics Try to Destroy It 1/2

John Nolte Jan 2026

Somehow, the entertainment media has become even more hateful, bigoted, bubbled, elitist, dishonest, and useless than the corporate political media. Case in point…

As of this writing, Melania, a documentary about First Lady Melania Trump, which has already taken the box office crown for the best documentary opening weekend in a decade, hasa six percent rotten scoreover at Rotten Tomatoes.

TheNormal Peoplescore, however, sits at 98 percent fresh. That’s a 92 percent gap between Normal People and Corrupt Critics.

It’s Saturday, and I got TV to watch, so I’m not going to do the research, but my memory tells me that is the biggest gap in the history of Rotten Tomatoes. Hey, what do you say we do some context?I love doing context….

The 2020MichelleObama documentary Becoming? Corrupt Critics drooled over it with a 93 percent fresh ratings.Normal People scored it at 57 percent rotten.

The 2016 feature film Southside with You, about Barry and Michelle’s courtship? Corrupt Critics drooled over it with a 92 percent fresh rating.Normal People were less impressed with a 71 percent score.

The 2017 documentary The Final Year, about Barry’s final year as president? Corrupt Critics drooled over that dud to 83 percent fresh.Normal People were far less impressed with a rating of 49 percent.

Meanwhile, CinemaScore has given Melania an A rating. One of the reasons critics cannot judge a movie on its merits is that most critics are leftists, and leftists are spoiled by popular culture. Almost every movie, book, documentary, and TV show is geared toward promoting a particular worldview. This means that when something dares to come along that in any way questions that worldview, they do not have the emotional coping mechanisms necessaryto look past their own immature disappointment. Instead, they lash out like the emotional children they are. So, what do we get instead of informed and thoughtful criticism? Tantrums…

The pissy, far-left Wrap:Most of the time, Ratner would rather look at her shoes. The closest thing “Melania” has to a story arc concludes when she finally takes her heels off at 2 a.m. on Inauguration Day. The audience actually sighed with relief. I guess there wasn’t much more to latch onto, although some people did chant “USA! USA!” a few times. (Yup, that’s the country we live in, alright. Well played.)

Meanwhile, innocent people are being shot and killed in public by these people’s secret police. They could be doing something about that, but they’d rather sell tickets so you can get a good look at their shoes and hear them sing in the back seat of their limousines. Now that’s cinema. Unfortunately.

Obama put kids in cages and drone-striked American citizens. Just, fyi.

The pissy, far-left Atlantic OMG:It is galling to think about Jeff Bezos (whose wife is a former TV news anchor)deciding to invest so much money apparently to buy the president’s good graces while reportedly preparing to cut hundreds of jobs at The Washington Post. (Amazon reps have insisted that the company invested so heavily in the movie purely “because we think customers are going to love it.”) It is also galling—to me at least—that Apple CEO Tim Cook attended the premiere of Melania this week while the Trump administration’s militarized forces are killing Americans and detaining preschoolers. Melania Trump really doesn’t seem to care about the optics of launching her $75 million show reel while the country is in such profound crisis—that much she has always made clear. But most Americans do. And the particular details of the past week—the demonstrations and the tear gas in Minneapolis, the Melania ads covering the Sphere, the themed macarons at the White House, the scurrying-away of many who were professionally involved with this documentary—should be remembered long after the film itself is forgotten.

The fact that Jeff Bezos spent $75 million on Melania as is firing 300 Washington Post staffers gives me pure joy, so thank you for putting it that way.

The pissy, far-left Variety:It should have been called “Day of the Living Tradwife.” … Made for an outrageously high budget ($40 million, plus $35 million spent on marketing), with a director who’d effectively been canceled over accusations of sexual abuse and was in no position to do anything but what he was told (that is, to be directed), the film, in its junk-streaming prefab-day-in-the-life reality-show way, mirrors the control of the Trump administration.

Could you wipe your mouth and repeat that middle part?

These spoiled, entitled babies are so blinded by hate and intolerance that they cannot even see the story here… The story of an immigrant girl born into working-class Communism who worked her way to the top of her modeling profession and is now the first lady of the United States. She’s a wonderful mother. She’s pure class. Her biography is the stuff of legend. But the fascist movie critics hate her because she disagrees with their fascist politics.

These reviews tell us everything about the critics and nothing about the movie. Their lens is warped. Their professionalism is nonexistent. As movie critics, they are utterly useless.

By the way, my very first review for Breitbart News was a rave for Stephen Soderbergh’s six-hour hagiography of communist, mass-murderer Che Guevera.

Trump Administration Begins Suing Illegal Migrants Who Have Not Self-Deported

Warner Todd Huston30 Jan 2026

The Trump administration has begun suing individual illegal migrants for ignoring removal orders and refusing to self-deport back to their home countries, a report says.

The administration has filed suit against an illegal migrant living in Virginia, and is seeking $941,114 plus interest, alleging that Marta Alicia Ramirez Veliz has remained in the country despite being told her request for admittance was rejected by a Justice Department appeals panel in 2022, Politico reported.

The filing notes that Veliz has refused to pay a $998 per-day fine for the 943 days since she was told to return to her home country, and reveals that Immigration and Customs Enforcement sent her an official notice of her total fine in April.

The lawsuit describes Veliz as “an individual and noncitizen residing in Chesterfield County, Virginia,” and does not identify her nationality.

The Department of Justice has filed similar lawsuits against recalcitrant migrants in other districts across the country, as well.

Politico added that a man in Florida has been hit with a $717,000 billfor failing to pay fines after being ordered to leave the country as directed, and migrants in Texas and California have also been the subjects of similar lawsuits.

Congress passed a law, signed in 1996 by Bill Clinton, to allow the federal government to impose civil penalties and fine illegal aliens for failing to self-deport after being told their applications to immigrate were formally declined, but the Trump administration is the first to initiate legal proceedings against migrants who have not paid their fines and yet still remain in the country despite being told to leave.

Trump first began utilizing the rules in his first term, but Biden immediately ended the practice when he took office in 2020. Trump has revived it, though, since taking office for his second term.

Federal officials have now sent out some 10,000 notices of the fines through June of last year.

“The law doesn’t enforce itself; there must be consequences for breaking it,” DHS spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin said in June. “President Trump and Secretary [Kristi] Noem are standing up for law and order and making our government more effective and efficient at enforcing the American people’s immigration laws.”

DHS added that migrants using the Customs and Border Protection’s CBP Home app to self-deport will have any fines levied against them waived.

Exclusive: Interior Sec. Doug Burgum Describes Donald and Melania Trump as ‘Mystical,’ ‘Exceptional,’ ‘Ultimate Power Couple’

By Jasmyn Jordan

United States Secretary of the InteriorDoug Burgum, speaking Thursday at the red-carpet world premiere of the new Melania documentary, recounted a personal anecdote about his time with President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump, while also touching on criticism of the film and the administration’s energy agenda.

In an interview with Breitbart News, United States Secretary of the InteriorDoug Burgum shared what he wanted the American people to learn about Melania through the film.

He said, “When Catherine andI were elected governorand first lady of North Dakota in November of 2016,that was the same night that President Trump won his first election for president, with Melania. A couple of months later, we had the opportunity to be invited to the White House. We got the lucky draw: Catherine was sitting by the president, and I was sitting by first lady Melania.”

“From that moment on, you’d say this is the ultimate power couple — because with her intelligence, her poise, the five or eight languages she speaks.I mean, the whole thing is quite mystical, and what they’ve done together, and what they do together, andwhat they’ve done together for the White House — it’s really exceptional,” he said.

Discussing negative coverage of the film, Burgum remarked, “Everybody’s a critic about this president and his life. So it’s no surprise that when a movie comes out, everybody’s going to be a movie critic. I would encourage people to see the movie, and, as I understand,it’s a great behind-the-scenes look at someone, a first lady with incredible humility, poise, intelligence, and a great representative for our country.”

Following a cabinet meeting earlier in the day — the tenth of President Trump’s second term, surpassing the number held during Biden’s presidency — Burgum stated, “President Trump, when he ran on a platform of, ‘Hey, we’re going to have energy abundance. We’re going to have energy dominance. We’re going to be able to sell energy to our friends and allies so they don’t have to buy it from our adversaries. And when we do that, it helps stop wars abroad. It helps bring peace to the world. That helps bring prices down here at home.”

“Because energy is part of the food you eat, Burgum continued. “There’s an energy cost in the food you eat, the clothes you wear, the car you drive, the heat in your home. Like this week with the storm. Lower energy prices mean lower prices for everything.”

“President Trump understands you can’t separate energy from national security. You can’t separate it from our economy. His energy diplomacy is going to go down in history. He’s making it happen. Venezuela, with that move, we’re moving the geopolitical center — which has always been controlled by oil from the Middle East — back to the Western Hemisphere. Brilliant move on his part,” Burgum concluded.
