Sharon Osbourne 'moving to Birmingham to stand for council' amid 'convicted terrorist' furore

She addressed controversy sparked by revelation man convicted of terror offences planned to run for election in May

Sharon Osbourne said she was considering moving to Birmingham and standing for election after a man convicted of terror offences revealed he was set to run for a council seat.

The star does not live in the Midlands but has strong links to the area through her late husband, Aston-born Black Sabbath legend Ozzy Osbourne.

She raised the prospect of seeking office after BirminghamLive revealed Shahid Butt, 60, was set to stand as an independent in May's all-out ballot, where every seat - more than 100 - will be contested.

Butt, who is set to contest Sparkhill, was convicted of terror charges in 1999 amid claims he was part of a terrorist enterprise conspiring to terrorise Yemen.

He was found guilty of forming an armed gang and conspiring to bomb the British consulate, an Anglican church and a Swiss-owned hotel in Yemen.
