Ukrainian drone strike kills woman and child near Mariupol – authorities
1 Feb, 2026 20:13
Two civilians, including a young child, have been killed in a Ukrainian drone strike on a settlement near the city of Mariupol, the head of Russia’s Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), Denis Pushilin, announced on Sunday.
He said the attack took place in the village of Sartana, located on the outskirts of Mariupol, which was liberated from Ukrainian troops after a fierce battle in 2022.
“A woman born in 1991 and a boy born in 2020 were killed in the attack by Ukrainian strike drones,” Pushilin wrote on Telegram, expressing condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims.
He added that another seven-year-old boy was injured and three residential buildings were destroyed in the strike.
Russia has accused Ukraine of increasingly targeting civilians in its attacks. As many as 45 people, including three minors, were killed in Ukrainian strikes in Russia over the holiday season from January 1 to 11, according to Moscow.
Moscow says Kiev is attacking civilians because it cannot halt Russian advances on the battlefield. Ukrainian officials claim that inflicting sufficient economic damage will force Russia to abandon its objectives in the four-year conflict.
In response, the Russian military has targeted Ukrainian energy infrastructure that it says supports kamikaze drone production for long-range strikes.
Several major Ukrainian cities, including the capital, Kiev, are currently facing severe power shortages as grid deterioration coincides with a cold snap. Kiev Mayor Vitaly Klitschko has urged residents to evacuate if possible.
The DPR, along with the neighboring Lugansk People’s Republic (LPR), seceded from Ukraine following a Western-backed coup in Kiev in 2014.
The two territories, along with the regions of Zaporozhye and Kherson, joined Russia following referendums in September 2022.

Kiev-backed suicide bomb plot thwarted in Russia – FSB
2 Feb, 2026 07:43
A Ukrainian terrorist plot involving an unwitting suicide bomber has been thwarted in the Russian port city of Sevastopol, the Federal Security Service (FSB) has said.
The agency said a Ukrainian intelligence handler persuaded a local resident to carry a portable speaker to the FSB’s regional headquarters, telling him it would be used for surveillance as part of an internal investigation.
Officials said the device actually concealed an improvised explosive meant to detonate at the site. Security guards intercepted the device and found the explosives before they could be triggered.
Officials released a record of what they said were instructions given by the Ukrainian handler, who claimed the unwitting accomplice would be offered a job at the FSB, should he prove capable in the fake counter-espionage operation.
The job was expected to take a couple of minutes and supposedly necessitated that the suspect scan mobile phones in the HQ security checkpoint to detect traitors.
Russian investigators claim they have identified the Ukrainian agent who orchestrated the plot.
The same person was allegedly behind a similar attempt to bomb the security checkpoint of the FSB HQ in Simferopol, which was reported by the agency last August.
In that case, a 54-year-old woman from Volgograd Region was tricked into delivering a bomb to the Crimean city disguised as a Christian icon.
The FSB named the suspected mastermind as Ivan Krinov, a lieutenant in the Ukrainian military’s Special Operations Forces, currently based in Odessa with his family.
The statement said Russia will seek to charge him with terrorism and have him put on an international wanted list.
The security service urged Russian citizens to be cautious about Ukrainian scams aimed at recruiting saboteurs.
By acting to ensure the deaths of perpetrators, Kiev “eliminates unwanted witnesses and can avoid paying them any reward,” the statement stressed.
Moscow officials say Kiev is increasingly resorting to terrorist attacks inside Russia because the Ukrainian military is unable to secure victory on the battlefield.

Iskander-M missile obliterates Ukrainian HIMARS
2 Feb, 2026 14:23
A Russian Iskander-M short-range ballistic missile has destroyed a US-made HIMARS multiple launch rocket system in Ukraine’s Kharkov Region, Moscow’s Defense Ministry has reported, releasing drone footage of the strike.
The attack also left up to ten Ukrainian troops dead, according to the ministry’s press release on Monday.
Since the escalation of the conflict in 2022, the Ukrainian military has repeatedly fired missiles into Russian territory, using the US-made High Mobility Artillery Rocket System among other weapons.
The attacks have frequently targeted Russian critical infrastructure and residential areas and have caused civilian casualties.
Another Iskander-M crew obliterated a Soviet-era S-300 air defense system, including the radar and personnel, that was operated by Kiev’s forces in Dnepropetrovsk Region, military officials in Moscow have stated.
In its daily update on Monday, the Russian Defense Ministry said that its forces from the Sever (North) grouping also took out two artillery guns and five materiel depots, killing up to 250 Ukrainian troops along the front line in Sumy and Kharkov Regions.
In other parts of Ukraine’s Kharkov Region and in Russia’s Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), Kiev’s forces lost at least one tank, five armored vehicles and two artillery guns, along with dozens of cars and over 300 personnel.
Additionally, the Russian military destroyed one Soviet-era Grad multiple launch rocket system, an artillery gun and a materiel depot in Zaporozhye Region as well as in Ukraine’s Dnepropetrovsk Region, with Kiev’s casualties estimated at 320 troops in that area.

Russia confirms new peace talks with Ukraine despite deadly drone attacks
02 February 2026, 17:14
Russia confirms that a new round of U.S.-mediated peace talks will be held with Ukraine this week in Abu Dhabi after a brief pause amid concerns over the human cost of a war in which combined military casualties on both sides are estimated to be approaching two million.
By Stefan J. Bos
Moscow said Monday that Russia and Ukraine have, in its words, “narrowed their differences on some issues,” though it admitted significantdisagreements remain.
Those unresolved issues are believed to include Ukraine’s refusal to give up territory occupied by Russian forces since the full-scale invasion began in February 2022.
The latest talks were expected to take place on Sunday but were postponed for what officials described only as “scheduling reasons.”
Now, the Kremlin says negotiations are set to continue on Wednesday and Thursday in the United Arab Emirates capital.
Violence continues as diplomacy resumes
The delayed diplomatic efforts also come amid continued violence on the ground.
Ukrainian officials say a Russian drone strike hit a bus carrying mineworkers in the southeastern Dnipropetrovsk region, killing at least twelve people and injuring several others as workers returned home from their shift.
Ukraine’s largest private energy company, DTEK — which owned the bus — described the strike as a “large-scale terrorist attack” on its personnel and mining operations.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned that Ukraine’s energy system remains seriously strained after recent Russian strikes.
Authorities say more than two hundred buildings in Kyiv alone are still without heating as temperatures fall to minus seventeen Celsius, or about 1 degree Fahrenheit, with repair crews deployed from across the country.
Energy and infrastructure remain under pressure
President Zelenskyy said that while Russia has reduced direct attacks on major energy infrastructure under a partial truce, it continues what he called terror against Ukraine’s logistics — especially railway systems.
As attacks continue and the war grinds into its fourth year, the human cost is staggering.
Ukraine claims Russia has suffered more than 1.24 million troop casualties — killed or wounded — though such figures are difficult to independently verify.
Additionally, an analysis cited by the Washington-based Centre for Strategic and International Studies suggests combined military casualties on both sides could be nearing two million, making this one of Europe’s deadliest conflicts in decades.
The renewed Abu Dhabi talks highlight fragile hope for progress, even as deadly strikes and infrastructure damage continue to impact daily life across war-torn Ukraine.

Ahead of Friday nuclear talks with Iran, Witkoff heading to Israel to meet PM, Zamir
February 2, 2026, 4:13 pm Updated at 6:39 pm
US envoy Steve Witkoff is expected to arrive in Israel on Tuesday for meetings with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Israel Defense Forces Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir, according to two senior Israeli officials.
The discussions will likely concern Iran, after Zamir was in Washington DC over the weekend for a series of discussions with American defense officials regarding the Islamic Republic.
Following his visit to Israel, Witkoff and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi plan to meet on Friday in Istanbul to discuss a possible nuclear deal and other issues, a US official said on Monday.
“The president’s been calling for them to make a deal. The meeting is to hear what they have to say,” the official said.
Turkey, Qatar, and Egypt have been working to arrange the meeting, Axios reported earlier, citing two sources.
Meanwhile, Iranian media said on Monday that Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian ordered the start of nuclear talks with the US after President Donald Trump said he was hopeful for a deal to avert military action against the Islamic Republic.
Following the Iranian authorities’ deadly response to anti-government protests that peaked last month, Trump threatened military action and ordered the dispatch of an aircraft carrier group to the Middle East.
Tehran, in response, has warned that if Trump orders strikes, Iran will target Israel and American military assets in the Middle East.
1/2
Netanyahu addressed these threats in a speech to the Knesset Monday, saying Israel was “ready for every scenario.”
“Whoever attacks us will face unbearable consequences,” the premier warned.
While piling pressure on Iran, Trump has maintained that he is hopeful of making a deal. Tehran has also insisted it wants diplomacy, even while vowing an unbridled response to any aggression.
“President Pezeshkian has ordered the opening of talks with the United States,” the news agency Fars reported, citing an unnamed government source.
“Iran and the United States will hold talks on the nuclear file,” Fars said, without specifying a date.
The report was also carried by the government newspaper Iran and the reformist daily Shargh.
Without giving details on the content of any prospective negotiation, Iranian foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei said, “Countries of the region are acting as mediators in the exchange of messages.
“Several points have been addressed and we are examining and finalizing the details of each stage in the diplomatic process, which we hope to conclude in the coming days,” he added. “This concerns the method and framework.”
Speaking on CNN on Sunday, Araghchi said he believes his country can reach an agreement with the US.
Others in the region are also keen to avoid the tensions with Iran boiling over, and Jordan’s top diplomat communicated as much in a phone call with his Iranian counterpart on Monday.
“Jordan will not be a battleground in any regional conflict or a launching pad for any military action against Iran,” Ayman Safadi told Araghchi, according to a Jordanian foreign ministry statement.
Safadi added that Amman, a US ally, “will not permit any party to violate its airspace or threaten its security and the safety of its citizens,” and stressed Jordan’s support for de-escalation and restoring calm.
Meanwhile, the Kremlin said that Russia is still trying to de-escalate tensions around Iran, noting that it had long ago offered its services to process or store Iran’s enriched uranium.
Asked if Russia was discussing with Iran and the US the possibility of taking Iranian enriched uranium, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said: “This topic has been on the agenda for a long time.”
“Russia has been offering its services for quite a long time as a possible option that would lead to the removal of certain irritants for a number of countries,” Peskov said.
“Right now, Russia is continuing its efforts, continuing its contacts with all interested parties, and maintains its readiness to de-escalate tensions around Iran to the best of its ability,” he said.
Israel targeted Iran’s nuclear and ballistic missile programs during last year’s war, and has debilitated several of the terror groups funded by Tehran that seek Israel’s destruction. Trump has also warned Iran not to expand its ballistic missile stockpile.
Israel said its sweeping assault on Iran’s top military leaders, nuclear scientists, uranium enrichment sites, and ballistic missile program was necessary to prevent the Islamic Republic from realizing its avowed plan to destroy the Jewish state.
Iran has consistently denied seeking to acquire nuclear weapons.
However, it enriched uranium to levels that have no peaceful application, obstructed international inspectors from checking its nuclear facilities, and expanded its ballistic missile capabilities. Israel said Iran had recently taken steps toward weaponization.
Iran retaliated to Israel’s strikes by launching over 500 ballistic missiles and around 1,100 drones at Israel. The attacks killed 32 people and wounded over 3,000 in Israel, according to health officials and hospitals.

Iran plays down war risk as reports point to possible US talks
February 2, 2026
Summary
US envoy Steve Witkoff and Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi could meet in Turkey, with talks set to focus on diplomacy to ease tensions, Iranian and Western and Turkish officials told Reuters.
Iran summoned European ambassadors in Tehran over the EU designation of the Revolutionary Guards as a terrorist group and said it was weighing further steps on Monday.
Iran is weighing the “process and framework” for possible talks with the US via regional intermediaries, foreign ministry spokesman said on Monday.
Iran’s Supreme Leader said if the US launches a war, it would not stay confined to Iran and would likely escalate into a broader regional conflict. Trump responded by saying "we'll find out" whether Khamenei was right if no deal is reached with Iran.
Trump said Iran is negotiating with the US and a deadline has been conveyed, while Iranian leaders insist talks cannot be forced through threats and warn of a decisive response to any attack.
Authorities expanded security deployments across major cities, arrested activists, and issued harsh legal threats, including possible moharebeh charges carrying the death penalty.

Iran lawmaker urges action against EU military attachés over Guards move
The head of Iran’s parliamentary national security and foreign policy commission said he had written to the foreign minister urging retaliatory steps after the European Union designated the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist organization.
Ebrahim Azizi said in the letter that Iran should designate military attachés from EU member states as terrorists and expel them, particularly from countries he said had acted against Iran during recent conflicts or unrest, state media reported.
He described the EU decision as a political and “ill-considered” move that undermined regional and international security and violated international law.

Iran official says no plan to transfer enriched uranium abroad
Iran has no plans to transfer its enriched nuclear material to any country and talks are not focused on such an option, a senior Iranian official said, pushing back against earlier reports.
Ali Bagheri, deputy for foreign policy at Iran’s Supreme National Security Council secretariat, said Iranian officials had no intention of moving enriched nuclear materials out of the country.
“Iranian officials have no plan to transfer enriched nuclear materials to any country, and negotiations are not about such an issue,” he was quoted as saying by state media.
His comments came after Reuters reported on Monday that an unnamed Iranian official said diplomacy was ongoing and that Iran was ready to show flexibility on uranium enrichment, including possibly handing over 400 kg of highly enriched uranium under certain arrangements.

EU rejects Iran move to label bloc’s armies as terrorist groups
The European Union said on Monday it rejected Iran’s decision to consider the armies of EU countries as “terrorist groups” after the bloc designated Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist organization.
“We reject the announcement of the listing of EU armies and the accusation of terrorism,” European Commission spokesman Anouar El Anouni said.
Iran’s move followed an EU decision last Thursday to list the Revolutionary Guards, a step that marked a shift in the bloc’s approach toward Iran’s leadership after a deadly crackdown on protests.

Iran commander says others will not be safe if Iran is endangered
A senior Iranian military commander warned on Monday that Iran would respond forcefully if its security was threatened, saying the region could not remain safe if Iran was unsafe.
“We will never accept that Iran is unsafe while the region is secure,” Kioumars Heidari, deputy commander of Iran’s central Khatam al-Anbiya headquarters, was quoted as saying by Iranian media.
He said that if the United States endangered Iran’s security, “neither the Zionist regime nor other countries that help the US will have security,” adding they would be defeated and forced to leave the region.
Heidari also warned Washington to act "wisely" toward Iran. “It is in the Americans’ interest to behave rationally,” he said, adding that otherwise they would face a “harsh and regret-inducing” response.

Egypt carrying out air strikes on RSF in Sudan from secret base
2 February 2026 16:40 GMT | Last update: 1 hour 48 mins ago
Egypt is using a secretive airbase to carry out drone strikes on the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Sudan, according to a new report.
Satellite images, flight records and videos seen by the New York Times - as well as interviews with officials - suggest that the strikes have been going on for at least six months from the base, which is hidden amid a vast, agricultural project in the country’s western desert.
Cairo is supportive of the Sudanese government and the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), which in recent months has lost a string of strategic towns and cities to the RSF, most notably North Darfur’s el-Fasher, where thousands of civilians have been massacred by the paramilitaries.
Previously, Egypt had been mainly a diplomatic player in Sudan, but the new evidence suggests that its direct involvement in the conflict has increased significantly.
After the RSF took el-Fasher, Middle East Eye reported that Egypt and Turkey had both agreed to step up military support for the SAF. MEE also reported in January that Egypt had "begun bombing RSF supply convoys running close to its territory".
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi went on to describe the horrors of el-Fasher as a "red line".
In early December, almost two months before the NYT report, regional analyst Jalel Harchaoui posted on social media that Egyptian MiG-29 jets were "carrying out destructive air strikes against RSF convoys moving from Haftar-held Libya into Sudan".
The RSF is supported by the United Arab Emitrates, though the country has denied it, while Qatar, Turkey and Saudi Arabia are among those now backing the army.
Emirati support for the RSF has been facilitated in part by Libya's eastern military commander Khalifa Haftar, who controls the key airbase of al-Kufra, which is currently closed.
Egypt has recently put pressure on Haftar to stop this support for the RSF, so far without success.
Regional rivals
A feud between erstwhile close allies Saudi Arabia and the UAE has erupted in public in recent weeks, which has also drawn in Egypt and further raised pressure on the Emiratis over their backing of the RSF.
The Emiratis have sown discord across the Middle East and Africa in recent years by backing several insurgencies and separatist groups, including the RSF, which has been accused of a litany of war crimes, including genocide.
In Yemen, the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council separatist group was last month routed by pro-Yemeni government fighters backed by Saudi air strikes, after briefly seizing all of the country’s east.
The developments were accompanied by rare statements of condemnation between Saudi Arabia and the UAE, and Riyadh has since been openly assertive against Emirati policy in the region.
Earlier this month, MEE reported that Cairo shared intelligence with Riyadh on the UAE's activities in Yemen.
Ironically, the East Oweinat desert reclamation project from where Egypt's new drone operation has been launched, about 65km from the border with Sudan, has received foreign investment from major Emirati agricultural companies.
The RSF acknowledged in a statement in November that drones striking its forces were “being launched from a foreign base”, and warned they would respond “at the appropriate time and place”.
Last month, Doctors Without Borders (MSF) visited the city of el-Fasher for first time since February 2025 and described it as “largely destroyed” and “empty”.
MSF said its staff spent four hours in the city on 15 January, after being granted access to assess the needs of civilians and medical facilities.
“We saw destroyed areas, largely emptied of the communities that used to live there. The regional capital now looks like a ghost town, with few civilians remaining,” MSF said in a statement.
The organisation added that its visit was “too limited” to allow for “more than a glimpse of el-Fasher”, yet revealed the “sheer scale of the destruction that took place in the city as many of its residents were wiped out”.

Drone Attack Reportedly Targets Ranch Linked to ‘El Guano’ in La Tuna, Badiraguato
February 2, 2026
A drone attack reportedly caused the fire and destruction of the “El Cielo” ranch, a property linked to the family of Aureliano Guzmán Loera, alias “El Guano” and brother of “El Chapo,” in the community of La Tuna, municipality of Badiraguato, Sinaloa.
The incident, which reportedly occurred on Saturday, February 1, was captured in videos that quickly spread on social media. The images show the attack on the property, which is located in an area historically associated with the Sinaloa Cartel.
Other clips also show the property surrounded by vegetation as the fire spreads, along with a column of dense smoke visible from various points in the mountains.
According to information circulating on social media, the attack on the Guzmán family’s property was allegedly orchestrated by the Guasave Cartel, headed by Fausto Isidro Meza Flores (“El Chapo Isidro”) and Óscar Manuel Gastélum (“El Músico”), who are engaged in an open war against “Los Calabazas” and “El Guano.”
In another video released after the attack, members of El Guano are seen kicking a large drone, identified as belonging to “Gente del Guano” and “Los Calabazas.”

FAA and FBI Establish Comprehensive Drone Restrictions for Super Bowl LX
February 2, 2026
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), in coordination with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), has established extensive drone restrictions for Super Bowl LX on February 8, 2026, at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, following a request from the Department of Homeland Security.
The multi-layered approach includes “No Drone Zones” at multiple San Francisco venues during the week preceding the game, with FBI personnel deploying specialized detection and mitigation capabilities.
Multi-Day San Francisco Drone Restrictions
Beginning February 3, UAS operations will be prohibited around key San Francisco venues including Moscone Center, The Pearl, The Ferry Building, and Grace Cathedral.
These locations will be restricted within a 2 nautical mile (nm) radius extending to 2,000 feet altitude from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m. PST on February 3-4. On February 5-7, restrictions expand to 8 a.m. through 1 a.m. the following day.
Additional drone restrictions at the Palace of Fine Arts on February 5 establish a 1 nm radius up to 1,000 feet from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Levi’s Stadium Game Day Drone Restrictions
At Levi’s Stadium (372422N1215839W), drone restrictions begin February 8 with a 2 nm exclusion zone extending to 2,000 feet from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. PST.
During game time (2:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.), restrictions expand dramatically to 30 nm radius extending up to 18,000 feet. Post-game restrictions maintain a 2 nm radius to 2,000 feet from 8:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
FBI Enforcement and Detection Capabilities
The FBI is working with the FAA to enforce the temporary flight restrictions (TFRs), using federally authorized capabilities to detect, track, and assess unauthorized drone activity.
Personnel from both agencies will be deployed full-time to identify drone activity that could threaten aviation safety, critical infrastructure, or public safety at and around event venues.
The FBI is legally authorized to use specialized mitigation tools to address unauthorized drone flights and may take action to move aircraft out of restricted airspace while preserving evidence for potential enforcement action.
Penalties and Authorization Process
Drone operators who enter restricted airspace without authorization may face fines of up to $75,000, drone confiscation, and federal criminal charges.
“UAS operators who do not comply with applicable airspace restrictions are warned that pursuant to 10 U.S.C. section 130(i), and 6 U.S.C. section 124(n), the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Department of Justice (DOJ), and the Department of Defense (DOD) may take security action that results in the interference, disruption, seizure, damaging, or destruction of unmanned aircraft deemed to pose a credible safety or security threat,” according to the FAA advisory.
Pre-approved UAS operations may be authorized through the FAA System Operations Support Center at 202-267-8276, with operators expecting minimum 24-hour disposition times.
Authorized operations must support active national defense, homeland security, law enforcement, firefighting, search and rescue, or disaster response missions while complying with all applicable federal aviation regulations.

UFO Shock Claim as Whistleblower Says South Korea Used Energy Weapon to Down Giant Craft
02 February 2026, 11:13 AM GMT
A fresh wave of UFO controversy has erupted after whistleblower Dr Steven Greer claimed South Korea secretly downed a massive alien craft using an advanced energy weapon and hid it inside a carved out mountainside.
Dr Greer alleges that South Korean forces brought down an enormous extraterrestrial vehicle using some form of electronic or energy based warfare.
According to his account, the object was so vast it could not be transported, forcing authorities to carve out part of a mountain outside Seoul to contain it.
He claims the craft remains there to this day, hidden beneath a purpose built facility.
The Claim
Supporters argue the specificity of the claim makes it easy to verify or debunk. South Korea is a relatively small and heavily mapped country, and large scale mountain excavation projects would be difficult to conceal.
That argument has fuelled online attempts to match Greer's story to satellite imagery, including speculation around coordinates linked to military installations controlled by the Korean Army.
Greer has also suggested the story aligns with long standing claims by figures such as Ross Coulthart and the late John Lear, both of whom spoke of enormous alien vehicles that were supposedly too large to move and instead buried under custom facilities.
Why Critics Say the Story Sounds Too Familiar
Scepticism has been swift and loud. Critics point out that Greer has been making similar disclosure promises for decades, often tying them to imminent political events that never deliver.
Many argue the South Korea story fits a familiar pattern where dramatic claims emerge without documents, photographs or corroborating witnesses.
Some question how such an event could remain hidden in one of the most technologically advanced and densely populated countries in the world.
They argue that a crash, military response and massive excavation would almost certainly leave a trail of images, leaked records or eyewitness accounts. Others offer a more nuanced critique, suggesting Greer's passion may have overtaken his judgement.
Former supporters acknowledge his early role in pushing UFO discussion into mainstream political spaces but believe he has increasingly blurred the line between verified testimony and rumour.
The Geography Argument and Satellite Speculation
Defenders of the claim counter that not all of South Korea is densely populated. Mountainous regions and military controlled zones have far fewer residents, making secrecy more plausible.
They point to satellite images showing unusual structures and installations that some argue do not resemble typical water or storage facilities.
One set of coordinates frequently shared online appears to show a secured site controlled by the Korean Army, leading some to question why the military would oversee what is officially described as mundane infrastructure.
For believers, this feeds into a broader theory that similar hidden facilities exist worldwide, housing technology recovered from unknown origins.
Sceptics respond that extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.
Military bases often have restricted areas and unusual layouts for entirely conventional reasons, and interpreting satellite images without insider confirmation can easily lead to false conclusions.
For now, there is no confirmed evidence that South Korea downed a giant UFO or carved a mountain to hide it. The story remains an allegation, fiercely debated and deeply polarising.
It may reinforce belief for some and scepticism for others, but it ultimately underscores the same unresolved question that has defined UFO lore for decades. Where is the proof?

'Alien Society' Vision Drives Elon Musk 1 Million Satellites Push—Critics Raise Alarm
01 February 2026, 11:29 PM GMT
Elon Musk has set his sights on something that sounds like it belongs in a sci-fi blockbuster: turning humanity into an 'alien society'.
The world's richest man often makes bold claims, but his latest proposal may be his most ambitious yet. In a move that sounds like it was ripped straight from the pages of a futuristic novel, Musk is looking to clutter the cosmos in the name of artificial intelligence.
Elon Musk's aerospace company, SpaceX, has officially applied for permission to launch a staggering 1 million satellites into Earth's orbit.
This isn't just about faster internet or better GPS; Musk frames this massive undertaking as the essential first step towards humanity evolving into a 'Kardashev II-level civilisation'.
How Elon Musk Plans To Build an 'Alien Society' With Orbital Data Centres
The core of this audacious plan relies on what Musk terms 'orbital data centres'. The Tesla CEO asserts that moving digital infrastructure into space is essential to keep pace with the rapid advancements in modern technology.
He claims these space-based hubs are the most cost-effective and energy-efficient solution to meet the exploding demand for AI.
Musk maintains that current methods on Earth are no longer sufficient. Currently, AI-powered centres are vast warehouses on Earth, packed with powerful computers that guzzle electricity and water.
SpaceX asserts that the processing needs driven by the ever-expanding use of AI are already outpacing 'terrestrial capabilities'. By moving this hardware into orbit, Musk believes we can deliver the computer capacity required to serve 'billions of uses globally'.
This transition is key to his vision of an 'alien society'. The term references the Kardashev scale, a method proposed by a Soviet astronomer in the 1960s to measure a civilisation's level of technological advancement.
A Type II civilisation can harness the sun's full power—something Musk believes his 1 million satellites will help us achieve.
Why Critics Fear 1 Million Satellites Will Cause Chaos in the Skies
Whilst the vision is grand, the reality of putting that much hardware into the sky has experts worried. SpaceX already operates a Starlink network of almost 10,000 satellites, which provide high-speed internet to remote corners of the globe.
Despite its current fleet, SpaceX faces accusations of causing space congestion and inciting fears of collisions that could render orbit unusable.
Musk, however, remains dismissive of these concerns. Defending the plan on his social media site X, he wrote: 'The satellites will actually be so far apart that it will be hard to see from one to another.
Space is so vast as to be beyond comprehension.' Despite his assurances, experts have previously cautioned against the growing number of hardware in orbit because of the possibility of crashes between objects.
It remains an expensive and complex undertaking, yet Elon Musk has previously rejected claims that his satellites were taking up too much room and crowding out competitors.

Donald Trump ‘set to reveal UFO secrets’ in bombshell speech ‘ready to go’
Updated: 02/02/2026 - 02:36
A British filmmaker has claimed that President Donald Trump is preparing to deliver a major speech on unidentified flying objects (UFOs) that could dramatically alter humanity’s understanding of extraterrestrial life.
Mark Christopher Lee, a UK-based writer, director and ufologist, told the Daily Mail he had been informed by a Trump administration adviser that the President “has been given authority by the other major world leaders to make this announcement".
Mr Lee claimed the address was initially scheduled for the United Nations General Assembly in September but has reportedly been moved forward to July 8 - the 79th anniversary of the Roswell incident.
“New intelligence developments have made it a matter of urgency,” he told the Daily Mail, adding that Mr Trump’s tendency to act unpredictably meant the announcement could come even sooner.
According to Mr Lee, the speech will confirm that forensic analysis of recovered craft and non-human biological material has verified their extraterrestrial origin - a first for any sitting world leader.
The address is expected to reference several high-profile cases that have fuelled speculation for decades, including the 2004 USS Nimitz encounter with a Tic Tac-shaped object, the GoFast and Gimbal incidents recorded by USS Roosevelt personnel in 2015, and the alleged Roswell crash of 1947.
Mr Lee claimed the President would also announce new declassification measures, the creation of an interagency scientific task force, and expanded cooperation with allied nations.
Several of the incidents cited have previously been examined by Congress.
Former Navy fighter pilot David Fravor testified that he encountered a wingless, windowless white object around 40 feet long during a training mission near San Diego in November 2004, saying it mirrored his aircraft before accelerating away at extreme speed.
Another former Navy pilot, Ryan Graves, told lawmakers that the GoFast and Gimbal encounters raised serious flight safety and national security concerns, with crews repeatedly observing objects that appeared stationary in strong winds or travelling at hypersonic speeds.
However, US officials have offered alternative explanations.
Dr Jon Kosloski, head of the Pentagon’s All-Domain Anomaly Resolution Office, told Congress in 2024 that the infrared footage was “a trick of the eye”, attributing it to an optical effect known as parallax.
Retired US Air Force Major David Grusch, now an adviser to Congress’s UAP Task Force, claimed last month that Mr Trump has been briefed on crashed spacecraft, recovered non-human remains and intelligence concerning their origins.
Mr Grusch said the President could become “the most consequential leader in world history” if he were to make such a disclosure.
The whistleblower has claimed he reviewed intelligence files and photographs depicting non-human bodies, and has alleged that Mr Trump was informed during his first term of multiple alien species - including one said to be crossbreeding with humans.
Previous US administrations, the Pentagon and Nasa have repeatedly denied recovering extra-terrestrial technology or having contact with alien life, and no physical evidence supporting such claims has ever been released publicly.
Mr Trump has previously hinted that he possesses deeper knowledge about UFOs and the possible existence of alien life.
During his first term, he told his son Don Trump Jr in an interview that he had heard “very interesting things” about the Roswell incident, but declined to elaborate.
In the run-up to the 2024 presidential election, Mr Trump appeared on The Joe Rogan Experience, where he confirmed he had spoken with US pilots who claimed to have seen fast-moving “round objects” in the sky.
The claims were echoed in August 2025 by Florida congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna, a close Trump ally, who told the same podcast that the US government possesses evidence of “interdimensional beings”.

Military UFO Footage Hidden For 12 Years Now Released
February 2, 2026
A newly released military video is raising serious questions about government transparency on UFOs and whether sitting presidents actually have access to classified UAP programs.
According to journalists George Knapp and Jeremy Corbell on their Weaponized podcast, footage filmed on August 23, 2012 over the Persian Gulf shows three thermal signatures moving in triangular formation.
The objects demonstrated abrupt directional changes and intelligent control with no traditional propulsion or thermal signatures, according to official Department of Defense documentation.
The footage was classified until journalists obtained and released it to the public.
The video comes amid growing debate about presidential access to UFO information.
Whistleblower David Grusch stated in a November 2025 Fox News interview that President Trump is very knowledgeable on the UAP topic.
Former Pentagon insider Lue Elizondo sent Trump a memo urging the appointment of a UAP czar and mandatory declassification of UFO records.
However, the Sol Foundation highlighted a critical contradiction.
According to Secretary of State Marco Rubio, generals and admirals told the Senate Intelligence Committee that secret UAP retrieval and reverse engineering programs exist, and that presidents are not informed of them.
This suggests elected leaders serve four to eight years while career intelligence officials and defense contractors hold institutional knowledge for decades.
Investigative journalist Ross Coulthart addressed disclosure speculation on Reality Check, stating he does not see an announcement happening anytime soon despite ongoing FBI investigations.
He noted that even with administration sources telling him to be patient, no results have materialized.
The documentary Age of Disclosure broke Amazon Prime’s record for highest grossing documentary within 48 hours, indicating massive public interest.
Yet public interest does not equal presidential access, leaving open the question of who actually controls this information.
