an American F‑35C fighter jet shot down an Iranian Shahed‑139 drone on February 3 after it flew aggressively toward the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln in the Arabian Sea. The carrier was operating about 500 miles from Iran’s southern coast, and the drone continued its approach despite U.S. de‑escalation attempts. No U.S. personnel or equipment were harmed.
Hours later, in a separate incident in the Strait of Hormuz, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps used two fast boats and a Mohajer drone to threaten a U.S.-flagged merchant tanker, the Stena Imperative. The IRGC attempted to approach and potentially seize the vessel. The guided‑missile destroyer USS McFaul, supported by U.S. Air Force aircraft, intervened and escorted the tanker to safety, ending the confrontation.
