Ex-Prince Andrew booted from Royal Lodge amid Epstein scandal – media

The former royal has reportedly moved to Sandringham after losing his titles

The UK’s former Prince Andrew, the brother of King Charles III, has been booted out of his Royal Lodge residence in Windsor following the stripping of his royal titles over his alleged links to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, the BBC reported on Wednesday.

Buckingham Palace had previously said that Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, the former Duke of York, would move out of Royal Lodge in October, the same month he was stripped of his title, but the move was later postponed.

He is expected to return in the coming weeks to collect his remaining belongings, but his permanent residence is now the Sandringham estate in Norfolk, according to the outlet.

According to the Sun, Mountbatten-Windsor left the 31-room, £30 million ($37 million) property late on Monday and arrived in Norfolk under cover of darkness.

The former prince remains under scrutiny over his Epstein connections. The British police are assessing allegations reported by the BBC that a woman was sent to the UK by Epstein for a sexual encounter with Andrew at Royal Lodge in 2010, claims he has denied. The woman, who was in her 20s at the time, reportedly said she spent a night at the residence –⁠ the first claim of a sexual encounter at a royal home from an Epstein survivor.

The former prince’s ties to Epstein have come under renewed scrutiny following the release of millions of pages of documents and images by the US Department of Justice. A recent tranche includes images appearing to show Andrew kneeling over a woman lying on the ground, alongside email exchanges with Epstein from years after the financier pleaded guilty to soliciting a minor.

Separate emails released last week indicate that Epstein invited Mountbatten-Windsor to dine with a 26-year-old Russian woman.

Pressure is mounting for Andrew to testify before the US Congress.US Vice President J.D. Vance told the Daily Mail on Tuesday that he would back bipartisan efforts to summon the former prince over his Epstein connections.

The latest release of documents has done little to quell intense speculation regarding Epstein’s network, as lawmakers and the public continue to sift through heavily redacted files for new clues about the extent of his crimes and the influential circles he moved in.

Putin ‘kept his word’ on Ukraine ceasefire – Trump

Moscow promised to halt strikes on Kiev and other cities until February 1 amid harsh winter conditions

Russian President Vladimir Putin kept his promise on a weeklong pause in strikes on Kiev and other major Ukrainian cities amid a winter power crisis, US President Donald Trump has said.

Last week, amid reports that Moscow and Kiev had reached an ‘energy ceasefire’, Trump announced that he personally asked Putin to agree to a partial pause in strikes “because of the extreme cold.”

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov later confirmed the truce, adding that a weeklong moratorium would last until February 1 and was aimed at “creating favorable conditions for negotiations,” referring to US-brokered Russia-Ukraine talks in Abu Dhabi.

Speaking to reporters at the White House on Tuesday, Trump said the pause had run “Sunday to Sunday.” “And he hit [them] hard last night. No, he kept his word on that,” Trump added. “It’s a lot… We’ll take anything, because it’s really, really cold over there.”

Asked whether he was disappointed Putin did not extend the ceasefire, Trump said he wanted him to “end the war.”

Ukraine’s Vladimir Zelensky confirmed on Monday that Russia had not launched targeted missile or drone strikes on major energy infrastructure since the pause began, though he claimed that shelling continued in frontline areas. On February 3, Zelensky accused Russia of violating the truce with overnight strikes, despite Moscow saying the moratorium had already expired.

Ukraine’s power grid system has been under severe strain amid repeated Russian missile and drone strikes, with recurring rolling blackouts and temperatures dropping below -10 C in many regions.

Moscow has said it has been targeting energy infrastructure supporting Ukraine’s defense industry in response to Ukrainian attacks deep inside Russia, including strikes on critical infrastructure and civilian areas. Moscow maintains it never targets civilians.

Medvedev responds to ‘disappointed liberals’

The former Russian president said he is “happy” not to have met the expectations of those who now wish for the country’s defeat

Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has stated he is happy to have disappointed liberal factions that had certain expectations of him, and that his sole duty is to serve Russia. The comment came in response to a question about his political evolution during a joint interview with TASS, Reuters, andthe Wargonzo project.

Asked about what it is like to have failed to live up to theexpectations of liberal circles that “pinned such hopes” on him, Medvedev stated that “if these are the same circles that now wish for the defeat of their Fatherland, as has happened before in our country’s history, then I am happy that I did not live up to their hopes.”

He added that, ultimately, he “couldn’t care less” about such expectations, stressingthat “one must work for the country, not for the hopes of some political construct.”

Medvedev, now deputy chairman of Russia’s Security Council, framed the core duty of a state leader as unwavering service to the nation. “The most important thing is to believe in your country and serve it. Not to fuss, not to fidget in front of anyone, not to try to please, but simply to follow your line,”he said.

Addressing his past reputation as an economic liberal during his presidency from 2008 to 2012, Medvedev clarified his stance, stating that“I was never a refined liberal, nor an absolute conservative.” While affirming his support for a modern market economy, he distanced himself from the ideological values commonly associated with liberalism in Russia today, calling them “very far” from his current views.

The wide-ranging interview also covered critical international issues. Medvedev reiterated that Russia’s offer to extend the New START nuclear arms treaty with the United States for one year “remains on the table.” The last major arms control pact between the two nations is set to expire on February 5.

He warned that its lapse would eliminate legal limits on strategic weapons for the first time since 1972 and could lead to a dangerous new arms race, potentially encouraging more countries to pursue nuclear weapons.

Key Zelensky ally urges him to choose people over land

Nikolaev Governor Vitaly Kim has said Ukrainians are too “exhausted” to prioritize old borders over a ceasefire

Ukraine should agree to a peace deal with Russia that prioritizes people over territory, Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky’s ally Vitaly Kim has said.

Kim, who led a local branch of Zelensky’s Servant of the People party during the 2019 presidential election, is the governor of Nikolaev Region, west of Kherson Region.

He rose to prominence in the early months of the war, when the front line ran near Nikolaev, a Black Sea port and major shipbuilding center.

“The land is important, but still, people are more important and the situation is that we do not know what will be tomorrow,” Kim told The Independent in an interview published Monday.

He said Ukrainians are increasingly exhausted by a conflict that is on track to enter its fifth year this month, andthat restoring the country’s 1991 borders is not on the minds of ordinary people.

“So for the Ukrainian people, I think the victory is just stopping the war and some guarantees of security for the future,” Kim said. “It is very important for us because a lot of time has passed.”

“We are exhausted and first, it’s not about weapons, it’s not about missiles, it’s about people. We’ve only 40 million people and everybody is exhausted.Our soldiers cannot fight for four to 10 years,” the governor said.

Zelensky has ruled out making territorial concessions to Moscow, despite Russian troops steadily gaining ground. He recently hinted that he may seek another term as president; his first five-year term technically expired in 2024. Zelensky has refused to call a new election, citing martial law.

Last year, Ukraine and its European backers dismissed US President Donald Trump’s peace plan, which called for the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from the Donbass, as favoring Moscow. Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that, for a lasting peace, Ukraine must pull its soldiers from the regions of Donetsk, Lugansk, Kherson and Zaporozhye, as well as recognize Russia’s new territories, including Crimea.
