>>Life plus 7 years, what does that mean?

p/b

A life sentence doesn't necessarily dying in prison (unless the judge specifies life without the possibility of parole like was given to the Parkland school shooter when she made it clear he will be in jail until he dies). If they don't specify that it's possible a lifer could either be up for parole at some point or could appeal and get the sentence reduce at some point. Regardless in this case, whenever his life sentence is fulfilled (if shortened), he still has another 7 years after that. Sometimes you see people with multiple life sentences which they have to serve 'back to back'. Even if shortened they'll likely still be in jail until they're dead.
