@AndrewKolvet

Gavin Newsom, Kamala Harris and liberal outlets like NBC are falsely claiming the VP was booed during the Opening Ceremony at the Olympics.

This is supposed to be a time of national pride and unity, but elected Democrats are using the Olympics to spread lies about our elected leaders and divide Americans. Pretty gross.

Also, remember their lack of class when they inevitably run in ‘28.

Waste of the Day: Postal Service’s Record Payroll Leads to Losses

By Jeremy Portnoy, RealClearInvestigations

Topline: The U.S. Postal Service spent a record $42.8 billion on payroll in 2025 while posting a $9 billion loss, according to payroll records obtained by Open the Books.

Key facts: Postmaster General David Steiner earned $350,260, the new records show, the highest salary in Post Office history. Eight others earned more than $300,000. In total, 328 employees made more than $200,000. There were 394 people earning that amount in 2024.

Nearly 20,000 people made $100,000 or more.

The Post Office brought in $80.5 billion in operating revenue, $916 million more than 2024. The boost was attributed to “strategic price increases” in postage costs, especially first-class mail.

Combined with $89.8 billion in expenses, the Postal Service had a $9 billion net loss. That was better than the $9.5 billion the Postal Service lost in 2024, which makes it appear as if its business model is improving. However, those figures include expenses and revenues that Postal Service management has no control over. Salaries, pensions, workers’ compensation, rent and more are mandated by Congress. Interest rates affect investment income.

When looking at only the spending that’s planned directly by Postal Service management, the Post Office had a “controllable loss” of $2.7 billion in 2025. That was the worst since 2020. Controllable loss was only $1.8 billion in 2024.

Over the next 10 years, the Postal Service plans to spend $20 billion on deferred investment and maintenance to upgrade and repair buildings and technology.

Search all federal, state and local salaries and vendor spending with the world’s largest government spending database at OpenTheBooks.com.

Critical quote: In its annual report, the Postal Service blamed Congress for many of its financial struggles.

“Our financial position remains burdened by non-controllable Congressionally mandated costs, an outdated archaic debt limit not updated in over 30 years, and a lack of strategic infrastructure investment over decades,” the report states.

Summary: Critics of the Postal Service often argue that mail service should be privatized. Supporters argue that the service is not meant to turn a profit. Regardless, increased salaries and mounting losses will continue to hurt taxpayers’ bottom

Waste of the Day 2.5.26

Open the Books

Waste of the Day: Throwback Thursday- Flightless Airport Got Funding==

By Jeremy Portnoy,

February 05, 2026

Topline: In 2012, there was little reason not to close the Lake Murray State Park Airport in Oklahoma. There were no planes stored at the airport, and it averaged only one flight per month.

But by keeping the airport open, local officials were able to collect an annual $150,000 check from the Federal Aviation Administration. The airport collected $750,000 from 2008 to 2012,but less than $6,000 was used at the airport itself. Most of the cash was dispersed to other projects around the state.

That’s according to the “Wastebook” reporting published by the late U.S. Senator Dr. Tom Coburn. For years, these reports shined a white-hot spotlight on federal frauds and taxpayer abuses.

Coburn, the legendary U.S. Senator from Oklahoma, earned the nickname "Dr. No" by stopping thousands of pork-barrel projects using the Senate rules. Projects that he couldn't stop, Coburn included in his oversight reports.

Coburn's Wastebook 2012 included 100 examples of outrageous spending worth more than $18 billion, including Oklahoma’s pseudo-airport.

The airport’s $750,000 checks would be worth $1.1 million in today’s money.

Key facts: Oklahoma’s tourism department first recommended closing the Lake Murray airportin 2006 because it was blocking access to a nearby state park and golf course.

The director of the Oklahoma Aeronautics Commission agreed, but the rest of the Commission refused. Members were too worried about losing the annual $150,000 federal check, according to reporting from The Oklahoman.

The cash kept flowing because smaller airports are legally entitled to annual funding under the federal Airport Improvement Program, but it wasn’t needed at Lake Murray. Oklahoma sent $300,000 of Lake Murray’s funding to two other airports that were actually functional, and the commission kept a stockpile of $450,000 that was still unused as of 2012.

Nearly $200,000 of the grant money was meant specifically to pay for new pavement and lighting on Lake Murray’s runway. It was not used for that purpose. In 2012, The Oklahoman reported that the runway had no electricity, and its pavement was “nearing the end of its useful life.”

The Commission had a change of heart in 2013and voted unanimously to close the airport, knowing it would mean returning $184,000 of funding. But at that point, huge amounts of cash had already been spent on projects never approved by the federal government.

Summary: Airplanes and scheduled flights should be the two most basic necessities for an airport to receive federal funding

Waste of the Day: L.A. Funds Activists, Then Group Sues

Topline:A Los Angeles advocacy group that sued the city twice was simultaneously being funded by the city itself.

Strategic Actions for a Just Economy (SAJE) has received at least $1.2 million in city contracts since 2020, including $375,000 in 2024. The funding stayed intact even while the group sued Los Angeles over Covid-19 emergency rental assistance and hotel construction.

The nonprofit has also advocated for abolishing the Los Angeles Police Department and cancelling the 2028 Summer Olympics, among other social justice issues.

The funding was first reported by the New York Post and verified through Open the Books’ public spending database.

Key facts: Most of SAJE’s public money came from the city’s Systematic Code Enforcement Program, which is funded by an annual fee on landlords and tenants. The program pays for apartment safety inspections and education about health codes. SAJE does not have to publicly disclose an itemized list of how its money was spent.

In 2023, SAJE and the advocacy group PolicyLink sued Los Angeles over its use of state and federal funds meant for rental assistance during the pandemic. They argued that a confusing application process caused tenants to be wrongfully denied assistance with limited access to the appeals process.

Separately, PolicyLink brought in $308,000 from the University of California, Los Angeles in 2024.

SAJE is currently suing the city over its plans to allow a Marriott Hotel to be built on land previously designated for affordable housing, which SAJE claims violates zoning laws. SAJE argues the land should have been included in a 2019 motion that set aside “surplus public land for 100% affordable housing in Black and Latinx neighborhoods as a corrective to Los Angeles’ history of racist housing and land-use policies.”

The nonprofit is also lobbying to cancel the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, which it claims will “accelerate the displacement, homelessness, and police violence so many Angelenos suffer on the daily.” And because the event will require a federal security presence, SAJE is concerned the Trump administration will use the opportunity to “militarize” Los Angeles.

According to the New York Post, SAJE has also held rallies and lobbied city council members to completely close down the Los Angeles Police Department.

Search all federal, state and local salaries and vendor spending with the world’s largest government spending database at OpenTheBooks.com.

Background: SAJE spent more than $2.7 million on salaries in 2024, according to its 990 tax form. At least three employees earned more than $100,000.

Summary: Open the Books has found that the federal government often funds nonprofits that later sue the government, and the state of California has also funded litigious organizations. Now the practice has expanded to cities as well.

Nolte: Rotten Tomatoes Debunks Jimmy Kimmel’s ‘Melania’ Disinformation

John Nolte7 Feb 2026.1/2

Former comedian Jimmy Kimmel used the publicly owned airwaves to spread a dual hoax — that the box office and audience score for Melania have been rigged by Republicans.

Currently, the gap between critics and Normal People score for Melania at Rotten Tomatoes is a record-breaking 91 percent — eight percent rotten and 99 percent fresh. Meaning, only eight percent of the 50 reviews are positive, while Normal People enjoyed the movie at an astonishing 99 percent rate.

Well, leftists are furious over Melania, which (within the context of a documentary) is booming at the box office and has been embraced by audiences.

The corporate media spent months trashing the movie as something that could only fail. In the days prior to its release, the dying media coordinated a phony narrative about how the movie was already a box office flop. Empty theaters! they screamed based on advance ticket sales. Empty theaters!

Then Melania enjoyed the bestopening weekend box office for a documentary in over a decade.

Then Melania continued its impressive box office run through the following week.

This left the fake media and Trump haters sputtering with impotent rage.

Enter the Walt Disney Company’sChief Disinformation Officer, Jimmy Kimmel…

First, without any evidence,Jimmy Goebbels claimed the Melania box office was rigged:

A lot of people, myself included, have been wondering how this movie managed to sell $7 million worth of tickets last weekend when almost every theater seemed to be empty leading up to the release. There are reports now suggesting that those beautifulbox office numbers may have been boosted by bulk ticket purchasesthat were handed out to people for free. Sources say there were signs that blocks of tickets to Melania were purchased and then distributed to Republican activists and senior citizens’ homes — which are really the same thing.

There are no sources saying that, unless you count a single loseron Substack whowas immediately shot down by Regal and AMC theaters, both of which went on the record to say they saw no unusual bulk purchases.

Logic also informs us Kimmel is lying about a bulk ticket racket…

Rigged bulk sales can easily put a bookon a bestseller list. You only need to sell 5,000 to 10,000 books over seven days to land on the New York Timesbestseller list.Compare that to Melania, which sold roughly 700,000 tickets over just three days during its opening weekend.

PresidentTrump received 77.3 million votes in 2024. How hard is it to believe 700,000 would go see a movieabout their first lady?.

2/2

Then there’s the logistics involved in bulk ticket sales and distribution.Even if you broke it into something as low as a bulk of 100 tickets, that’s roughly $1,000 in tickets. How do you distribute 100 tickets purchased online? Do you print up each one? Then you have to hand them out. Try that in a nursing home.

Even if 100,000 of the roughly 700,000 tickets sold that first weekend were gamed that way, you’d require 1,000 people handling 100 tickets each.

What’s more, Melania went on to do impressive business throughout the week. So we’re supposed to believe this Herculean effort that requires thousands of people spending tens of thousands of dollars continued through the week?

Finally, we already know that most of Melania’s ticket sales came from same-day walk-up business.

Jimmy Goebbels wasn’t done with just that one hoax. He went on to lie about Melania’s Rotten Tomatoes score…

As of tonight, Melania has a score of 5% on Rotten Tomatoes from the critics. That is very low.The audience score for Melania is 99% positive. Which is 1% higher than The Godfather. And I’m sure Donald J. Corleone had nothing to do with that at all. We need to get to the bottom of this. Send in Tulsi Gabbard and the FBI.

But Versant, the Rotten Tomatoes parent company, debunked Kimmel Friday…

“There has been no bot manipulation on the audience reviews for the ‘Melania’ documentary,” Versant said in a statement to Variety. “Reviews displayed on the Popcornmeter are VERIFIED reviews, meaning it has been verified that users have bought a ticket to the film.”

But Kimmel surely already knew this.

How?

Because of this report over the weekend:

[T]he exit scores [for Melania] are quite royal with an A CinemaScore, 5 stars on Screen Engine/Comscore’s PostTrak, and get this —an 89% definite recommend; unheard for any movie. If a movie is in the 70 percentile range, that’s outstanding.

It was obvious a week ago that almost everyone who saw Melania absolutely loved the movie, so why wouldn’t the Normal People score at Rotten Tomatoes reflect that?

Godless leftists like Kimmel believe they are entitled to everything, including a box office flop, so when they don’t get what they want, they melt into a tantrum of lies.

What a sorry way to live.

Researchers ‘surprised’ by the brain benefits of cannabis usage in adults over 40 1/2

McKenzie Beard

Published Feb. 7, 2026,

Pass the pot to Grandma — her brain might thank you.

A new study is challenging long-held assumptions about cannabis, finding that middle-aged and older adults who use the drug may actually see some brain and cognitive benefits.

The twist comes as cannabis use is climbing among older Americans.Research shows that nearly 1 in 5 people ages 50 to 64 reported using marijuana in the past year, along with 5.9% of those 65 and older.

That’s notable because research on cannabis and the brain has historically zeroed in on adolescents, not aging adults.

“More older adults are using cannabis. It’s more widely available and is being used for different reasons than in younger folks — such as for sleep and chronic pain,” Dr. Anika Guha, a clinical psychologist at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus and lead author of the study, said in a statement.

“Plus, people are living longer. We have to ask, ‘What are the long-term effects of cannabis use as we continue to age?’”

To dig deeper, Guha and her colleagues analyzed data from 26,362 adults ages 40 to 77, with an average age of 55, all living in the UK.

Participants answered detailed questions about their cannabis use, underwent MRI scans to assess their brain structure and completed a series of cognitive tests.

The researchers zeroed in on brain regions packed with CB1 — a cannabinoid receptor they theorized would be especially affected by cannabis.

One key focus was the hippocampus, which contains a high concentration of these receptors and plays a critical role in memory as we age. It’s also a brain region closely linked to dementia.

The cognitive tests targeted mental skills previously linked to cannabis use, including learning, memory, processing speed, attention and executive function.

The researchers found that cannabis use in older adults was generally associated with larger brain volumes in several regions.

“It’s not that bigger is always better. But we also know that as we age, we often see smaller brain volumes due to processes like atrophy and neurodegeneration,” Guha said.

“That decrease is often correlated with reduced cognitive function and increased dementia risk.”

Older adults who used cannabis also tended to perform better on cognitive tests, adding to a growing body of evidence suggesting the drug may have neuroprotective effects as we age.

In a Danish study, researchers found that cannabis users experienced “significantly less cognitive decline” over their lifetimes than non-users.

And a US study involving patients with HIV found that those with a history of occasional cannabis use also showed stronger cognitive performance.

Even Guha didn’t expect the results to line up so cleanly.

“I was a little surprised that every cognitive measure that demonstrated a significant effect showed better performance among cannabis users,” she said.

https://nypost.com/2026/02/07/health/cannabis-may-benefit-aging-brains-study-finds/

>>24229560

2/2

“It goes against your default assumptions,” she continued, “because I think a lot of research out there has shown cannabis is associated with worse cognitive function, at least acutely.”

That doesn’t mean lighting up nonstop is the secret to aging well.“For many of our outcome measures, moderation seemed to be best,” Guha said.

Across most brain regions and cognitive tests that showed an effect, moderate users had larger brain volumes and better cognitive performance.

Still, there were a few exceptions. In measures like right amygdala volume and visual memory and learning, heavy users posted the strongest results.

“I think that really suggests that there are dose-dependent effects,” Guha said, though she noted the study lacked detailed data on participants’ specific patterns of use.

There was also one potential downside. Higher cannabis use was linked to lower volume in the posterior cingulate — a brain region involved in memory, learning and emotional processing.

But even that finding isn’t cut and dry.

“Some research suggests a smaller posterior cingulate volume is actually associated with better working memory, so it’s a little unclear what this means,” Guha said.

“It’s a good reminder that these effects involve multiple processes,” she added. “It’s not all good or all bad.”

At the end of the day, Guha suspects cannabis’s effects on the brain depend on many factors, including how it’s used, what products people choose, why they’re using it and which stage of life researchers are studying.

“I think the main takeaway is that the story is nuanced,” she said. “Those are important questions and we’re still figuring them out.”

More answers may be on the way. Guha and her colleagues have another paper under review examining how cannabis affects brain function — not just structure — in the same group of older adults.

“These data suggest there are also positive impacts of cannabis on the function of these brain regions, not just the size or volume of them, too,” she said.

Guha is also beginning to explore the link between brain health and psilocybin use, another once-taboo substance that has gone increasingly mainstream.

“If people are using these substances, it’s worth knowing what the impacts are, both good and bad,” she said.

Japanese PM laments lack of peace treaty with Russia

Tokyo and Moscow have never reached a formal settlement at the end of World War II

The lack of a peace treaty to this day between Tokyo and Moscow to end World War II is “really vexing and regrettable,” Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi has said, reiterating her intent to resolve territorial issues with Russia.

Japan and Russia never signed a peace treaty after the war, remaining locked for decades in a territorial dispute over the four southernmost islands of the Kuril archipelago.

The islands were incorporated into the Soviet Union in 1945, and Russia regards them as an integral part of its territory, while Tokyo continues to lay claim to what it calls the “Northern Territories.”

Takaichi delivered the remarks on Saturday at a rally marking the so-called Northern Territories Day, an annual commemoration designed to spread awareness of Tokyo’s stance on the Kuril Islands dispute.

“It is really vexing and regrettable that a peace treaty between Japan and Russia has not been concluded and that the Northern Territories issue has not been resolved although 80 years have passed since the war ended,” Takaichi stated. The prime minister added that she views the restart of a program to facilitate visits of former Japanese residents of the islands and their relatives as “one of the top priorities in the Japan-Russia relationship.”

The already complicated relations between Tokyo and Moscow further deteriorated in light of the Ukraine conflict, when Japan aligned itself with the West, imposing sanctions on Russia. In response to Japan’s “clearly unfriendly position,” Russia in 2022 withdrew from peace talks, as well as canceled visa-free travel from Japanese to the disputed islands.

After Takaichi assumed the prime minister post last October, she repeatedly signaled her intent to reach a formal peace settlement with Russia and “to resolve the territorial issue.” While Moscow has welcomed the proclaimed goal, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said late last year that Tokyo had been displaying a “rather unfriendly stance” towards Moscow and has taken part in “all the unlawful sanctions and restrictions against our country” imposed by the West. Dialogue between the two nations has been “reduced virtually to zero” in recent years due to Japan’s actions, Peskov pointed out at the time.

EU’s ‘drone wall’ idea is ‘utopia’ – Romanian military chief

Brussels calls the project, which gained traction last year, a “bedrock of credible defense”

The European Union’sproposed ‘drone wall’ is a “utopia” that is impossible to implement, Romanian Defense Minister Radu Miruta said Thursday.

Senior EU officials and lawmakers have promoted the vaguely defined ‘drone wall’ as central to the economic bloc’s military buildup against a perceived Russian threat. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen insisted in her September State of the Union address thatit is “not an abstract ambition” but “the bedrock of credible defense.”

“A drone wall, where someone, like in a computer game, makes a curtain through which absolutely nothing passes, is a utopia,” Miruta, who took office in November, told the TV channel Digi 24. “We don’t have a wall. Poland doesn’t have a wall, nor do the Nordic countries.

Proponents describethe project as a network of detection and interception systems along NATO’s eastern flank. Kiev said Ukrainian drone innovations would be essential to it,but reports suggest the ‘drone wall’ is more a PR label than a viable military concept.

The idea gained traction last fall amid reports of “mystery drone” sightings across Europe, which officials and media linked to Russia without firm evidence.

Moscow called the claims part of a Brussels-led fear campaign to distract European voters from domestic problems and justify higher military spending.Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, “building walls is always bad, as history shows,” in comments regarding the ‘drone wall’ concept.
