More migrants arrive in Britain under Starmer than any other PM as hundreds land over weekend

More small boat migrants have arrived during Sir Keir Starmer’s time in Downing Street than under any other prime minister.

With 219 migrants reaching the UK on Sunday, Sir Keir’s total hit 65,922, overtaking the previous high of 65,811 under Boris Johnson.

The record under Sir Keir has been reached in just over 19 months, compared with three years under Mr Johnson.

The Channel crisis has now entered its ninth year.

The first small boat crossing was recorded on January 31, 2018, and by the end of that year then home secretary Sajid Javid declared it a ‘major incident’.

The total number of migrants to have reached Britain now stands at more than 193,000.

One of Sir Keir's first acts in office after the 2024 general election was scrapping the previous government’s Rwanda asylum deal.

The programme had been designed to deter crossings – and save lives – by sending migrants to the east African country to claim asylum there rather than here.

Not Clear Whether Vaccines Cause Autism, Needs More Research; NIH Director Says

The director of the National Institutes of Health said in a new interview that there’s a dearth of high-quality research into vaccines and autism and that the health agency is funding research that will determine the causes of autism.

Dr. Jay Bhattacharya, the NIH’s director, told EpochTV’s “American Thought Leaders” in an interview released on Feb. 10 that he has read studies that have found no connection between the measles, mumps, and rubella vaccine and autism. Bhattacharya sees the studies as robust.

“For other vaccines, there actually isn’t this kind of rich literature,” he said.

“‘Do vaccines cause autism’ is a poorly formed question,” Bhattacharya added later.

“Do I believe that we know that there are some vaccines that cause autism? The answer—I don’t think that’s true. Do we know for a fact that every single vaccine in the combination it is given doesn’t cause autism? Also, I don’t know that we know that. These are things that are worthy of research.”

A small number of studies have found indications that autism can be caused by vaccines, while others have identified no increased risk in autism following receipt of the measles shot.

Bhattacharya, during a Senate Health Committee hearing on Feb. 3, told Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) that he does not believe autism is caused by the measles vaccine. Sanders pressed for a broader answer.

“I have not seen a study that suggests any single vaccine causes autism,” Bhattacharya said.

President Donald Trump has directed health officials to study autism, noting that more kids than ever are being diagnosed with the disorder. One of the efforts, led by the NIH, is called the Autism Data Science Initiative and involves investing more than $50 million in projects aimed at pinpointing autism causes.

Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has also said that the government is looking into potential links between autism and vaccines.

“We’ve invested a tremendous amount of money in trying to understand the etiology of autism, because there’s millions of families around the country that have children that … they would love to be able to help, but we don’t really have great answers, both for the cause and how to sort of reverse whatever problems there are. And of course, there’s a whole range of phenotypes … ranging from very, very severe autism to much milder, and so you can have different answers and different biology,” Bhattacharya told The Epoch Times.

“We need to have better science underlying all of these conditions, and that’s something I’m investing in to make sure that the next generation of folks who have these conditions will have better answers provided to them.”

Democrat Lawmakers Seek Pentagon Probe Of SpaceX Over Potential China-Linked Investment

Two senators are urging the Pentagon to find out whether investors tied to China hold stakes in SpaceX, one of America’s most important defense contractors and a key provider of military launch services.

In a Feb. 5 letter to Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, Sens. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) and Andy Kim (D-N.J.) said recently unsealed court records and media reports raise concern about whether Chinese money reached SpaceX through intermediaries and offshore entities.

“These [alleged] ties could pose a national security threat, potentially jeopardizing key military, intelligence, and civilian infrastructure,” they wrote.

The senators argue it could trigger U.S. safeguards meant to keep foreign adversaries from gaining leverage over companies that handle sensitive national security work.

Warren and Kim cited media reports describing a market for SpaceX shares that allegedly included Chinese investors, sometimes using middlemen and structures in places such as the Cayman Islands and the British Virgin Islands.

A Delaware court last year backed a fund manager’s decision to remove a Chinese investor from a fund set up to buy SpaceX shares, according to court filings.

Iqbaljit Kahlon, who managed the fund, had admitted Leo Investments, a publicly traded Chinese company, as a limited partner.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in a fresh interview also accused Washington of sabotaging efforts to improve bilateral relations while undermining negotiations to end the war in Ukraine. The charge is ironic, given it is typically the West which mounts the same accusation at Moscow.

"Despite all the statements by the Trump administration about the need to end the war… it does not challenge all the laws that Joe Biden passed to punish Russia after the start of the special military operation," Lavrov said in an interview with TV BRICS.

The Epstein files threaten to bring down the British government and have left the monarchy more vulnerable than ever, a top American lawmaker has warned.

Ro Khanna, who co-authored the congressional bill that compelled Donald Trump to release the files, was asked about Lord Peter Mandelson and Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor on Tuesday ahead of a closed-door deposition of Ghislaine Maxwell.

'Mandelson may bring down the whole government, from what I hear,' the California Democratic representative said before entering the House Oversight Committee hearing – where Maxwell pleaded the Fifth and gave no evidence.

'[Mandelson] engaged in terrible behavior. The allegations are very serious – that he was working for Gordon Brown and then feeding information about UK possibly buying Euros and having Epstein trade on that.'

He added: 'I think this is the most vulnerable the British monarchy has ever been.'

Mr Khanna said 'they ought to ask the King and Queen questions', and suggested that 'maybe this will be the end of the monarchy.'

The US lawmaker appears to have been referencing recent incidents where King Charles was heckled by members of the public over Andrew's ties to Epstein.

Sir Keir Starmer faced the greatest crisis of his premiership on Monday as Scotland's Labour leader Ana Sarwar called on him to resign over the Mandelson scandal.

The Prime Minister's position is in jeopardy over his decision to appoint Lord Mandelson as US ambassador despite his friendship with the pedophile financier.

Mr Sarwar said he viewed Sir Keir as a 'friend' and a 'decent man' but there had been 'too many mistakes'.

'The distraction needs to end and the leadership in Downing Street has to change,' he told a press conference in Glasgow.

The NSW premier and a senior NSW Police officer have defended the actions of authorities during violent clashes with demonstrators at a protest in Sydney's CBD.

Twenty-seven people were arrested, including 10 for assaulting police, on Monday night at a demonstration against Israeli President Isaac Herzog's visit to Australia.

MP 'lifted off the ground'

Ms Boyd said she was standing near a group that was seen on social media praying at Town Hall when she says she was punched by police.

"I had this force on the right of me. I got lifted off the ground," she said.

"And then you can see in the video [that] as I'm trying to regain my balance another police officer punches me in the head.

"And then another one after that punches me in the shoulder. I don't understand how that is a proportionate response to anything."

Greens MP for Newtown Jenny Leong is speaking now.

She says protesters tried to disperse peacefully but were met by lines of "riot police".

"The next thing we knew, we started coughing and spluttering," she said.

"We pulled people into the shops, people who were red in the face and crying, having been sprayed this far away with tear gas with pepper spray.

"And we saw two or three lines of police running, chasing terrified community members as they bolted down Bathurst Street, coughing and spluttering, being sprayed by police."

Ghislaine Maxwell offers to exonerate Trump if she's let out of prison

Ghislaine Maxwell has offered to testify to Donald Trump's innocence in exchange for clemency, her lawyer has told Congress.

The long-time girlfriend and accomplice of sex offender Jeffrey Epstein refused to answer questions when called to testify before Congress.

But she would do so, if she was let out of prison, attorney David Oscar Markus said.

"Ms Maxwell is prepared to speak fully and honestly if granted clemency by President Trump," he said.

"Only she can provide the complete account. Some may not like what they hear, but the truth matters.

"For example, both President Trump and President Clinton are innocent of any wrongdoing."

Markus said he urged Maxwell to invoke the Fifth Amendment because she has a pending appeal petition.

"On my advice, Ghislaine Maxwell will respectfully invoke her Fifth Amendment right to silence and decline to answer questions today even though she would very much like to answer your questions," he said in a statement to Congress.

The Fifth Amendment is a US constitutional right not to answer questions so as not to incriminate oneself.

"In my opinion, they have filed this writ of habeas corpus just to use it as an excuse to not answer more questions because again, we know that she's a monster," Democratic Representative Jasmine Crockett said.

Maxwell is a few years into a 20-year sentence for child sex trafficking.
