Contact your local AG Extension office. They can help you find what best in your area to meet your needs. If you have room, you could plant several rows of trees. Fast growers for immediate effect and some slower growing, more effective trees for when you harvest the fast growers.
I live and travel in the western US. There are ranch and farm homes sitting in wide open spaces surrounded by mini forests that were planted decades ago. Each generation keeps it up, harvesting and planting as needed for tree health, wind breaks, sun shade, dust control, fire control etc. Look up hugelkultur for a second use from the fast growing trees if you're interested.
