New arrest in Guthrie case
Was just thinking about today's drone problems for the US Navy. With all the new semi lethal cheap one way drones coming to the battlefield, the tactic seems to overwhelm defenses with numbers intermingled with more deadly hypersonic missile systems, and regular missiles from fast boats. Although we do have new battleships coming online that will carry a range of new weapons such as microwaves that can take out swarms of drones, large lasers, ballistic missiles, and last ditch effort Phalanx gatling guns, it will take time for these systems to come to theatre; whereas the US has a large fleet of older battleships with large guns just rusting away. There maybe a use for these older systems, that probably run on cheap clean coal, if there was a way to use something other than their original large shells. For example, what if those large guns could shoot pellets like a shotgun to attack large swarms of drones? Or even pull sand from the ocean floor as a munition against cheap drones, covering a larger area even cheaper? Other types of munitions could also be beneficial such as air burst rounds, napalm or smoke grenades for coastal invasion cover? These older ships are all thick steal and can take a hit while getting in closer to the fight as the lighter more advanced yet more vulnerable aluminum hull ships, remain out farther. One thing about those older analog systems, is that they will never be subjected to electronic warfare, are semi available, and maybe a good defense against drone swarms and small fast speedboats.
