A Green Party councillor in the UK has sparked outrage by announcing plans to take her young grandchildren to deliver handmade Valentine’s Day cards to adult male asylum seekers at a migrant camp.
This comes amid widespread local opposition to the government’s decision to house hundreds of illegal migrants in a former military base, and fresh revelations about horrific crimes committed by similar arrivals.
Anne Cross, an East Sussex County councillor, made the announcement at a heated public meeting, claiming it would help “dispel fear” by encouraging people to “hear the stories” of the migrants. “There is nothing like getting to know people and hearing their stories in order to dispel fear,” she said. “My grandchildren and I painted some Valentine’s Cards at the weekend which we are going to be presenting to the men at Crowborough as a welcome.”
A British Green Party politician is calling on British kids to send Valentine’s Day cards to the illegal migrants being housed in asylum centers and migrant hotels across the country to “share the love.”

The UK government has issued new guidance allowing primary school children, some as young as four, to ‘socially transition’ the gender by changing their pronouns at school.
According to reports in The Times, the guidelines state that parents should be involved in the “vast majority” of cases where a child questions their gender, and schools should not initiate steps towards social transitioning.
However, the move has sparked outrage, with critics arguing it undermines parental rights and exposes vulnerable children to harmful ideologies.
The guidance specifies that “social transitioning in primary schools should happen very rarely,” but “children will be allowed to change their gender and adopt different pronouns.”

European Official Warns That Americans Can Be Silenced By EU Online Speech Laws
Europeans who face criminal charges for what they said or wrote warned that Europe’s speech laws can silence Americans as well, regardless of the U.S. Constitution’s First Amendment protections.
While testifying before the House Judiciary Committee last week, Paivi Rasanen, a member of parliament in Finland, recounted how she has been prosecuted since 2021 for quoting Bible verses to church members and on social media that questioned her church’s participation in a Gay Pride march. Although she was acquitted, first by a local district court and then by an appellate court, prosecutors appealed the decision to Finland’s supreme court, where the case currently sits.
“My prosecution shows how quickly democratic societies can abandon free expression when the state decides which beliefs are acceptable,” Rasanen told The Epoch Times.
“I never imagined that quoting the Bible in a Twitter post would lead to years of criminal charges, yet this is now the reality in Europe,” she said. “Americans should be concerned because once censorship is normalized, it never stays confined to one country.”
The trend among Western countries to restrict religious speech has spread beyond Europe, with the Canadian government currently advancing a bill that would remove a religious exemption from “hate speech” laws in the country’s Criminal Code. Similarly, newly proposed legislation in Queensland, Australia, would criminalize certain symbols and phrases, with penalties of up to two years in prison.
While speaking before Congress, Rasanen was joined by Graham Linehan, an Irish writer and comedian who was arrested upon traveling through Heathrow Airport in 2025 for statements he had made in America on transgender issues.
“For a decade, the British police have harassed me for expressing views that the majority of the public share,” Linehan stated. “We have simply been punished for objecting to fashionable yet incoherent orthodoxies.”
‘Foreign Censorship Threat’
Their testimony was underscored by the release of a Feb. 3 House report titled “The Foreign Censorship Threat,” which charged that “The European Commission, in a comprehensive decade-long effort, has successfully pressured social media platforms to change their global content moderation rules, thereby directly infringing on Americans’ online speech in the United States.”

Republican Gov. of Alabama Signs the Child Predator Death Penalty Act
On Thursday, Alabama Governor, Republican Kay Ivey, signed the Child Predator Death Penalty Act into law in order to protect the state’s children from child predators.
The Child Predator Death Penalty Act, sponsored by state Rep. Matt Simpson and state Sen. April Weaver, who are both Republicans, strengthens Alabama’s criminal penalties against those who are convicted of felony sexual crimes against a child.
Crimes of first-degree rape, first-degree sodomy, and first-degree sexual assault of victims under the age of 12 would automatically become elevated from Class A felonies to capital crimes eligible for the death penalty (or life without parole).
The law takes effect on October 1, 2026.
It was one of the governor’s key priorities for the session and aims to provide the strongest possible protections for Alabama’s most vulnerable residents against child predators.
“For too long, the most vulnerable of our society have lacked the most stringent legal protection from child predators,” said Governor Ivey.
“Through the Child Predator Death Penalty Act, Alabama now joins just a handful of states imposing the toughest penalty possible for child predators. Those who target the youngest among us for the vilest crimes will soon be met with the harshest punishment under the law.”
“With the signing of the Child Predator Death Penalty Act into law, Alabama has taken decisive action to ensure that the most horrific offenses committed against minors face the maximum punishment our legal system permits,” said Rep. Simpson.
“This law sends a clear message that we will not stand by while young lives are shattered. Those who commit such unspeakable crimes will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. I am grateful to Governor Ivey for her steadfast leadership and unwavering commitment to keeping our communities — and especially our children — safe.”

Mysterious Refinery Fire Deepens Cuba Fuel Crisis
A fire broke out at a key fuel refinery in the Cuban capital, Havana, on February 13, as the country struggles under an oil blockade imposed by the United States.
The fire occurred not far from where two oil tankers were moored. Two Mexican navy ships arrived at the same harbor earlier in the week with more than 800 tons of much-needed humanitarian aid.
Vicente de la O Levy, the country’s ministry of energy and mines, said on X that the fire, which broke out in one of the refinery’s warehouses, had been brought under control. There were no injuries and the fire did not spread to nearby areas, according to the minister.
“The cause is under investigation,” he wrote. “The workday at the Nico Lopez Refinery continues with complete normalcy.”
Cuba can only produce about one-third of its total fuel requirements. The country lost its main oil supply line when U.S. President Trump last month ordered the capture of Nicolas Maduro, the long-term leader of Cuban ally Venezuela. More than 30 Cuban troops who were guarding Maduro were killed in the special operation.
Since then, Trump has vowed to starve the communist-ruled nation of oil, going as far as threatening tariffs for any other country stepping in with crude supplies.
The refinery fire came as the country began implementing emergency measures to conserve Cuba’s fast-dwindling fuel stocks. Universities were closed, school hours and the work week were reduced, and public transport was restricted. Even staffing at hospitals was also cut back.
In addition to its efforts to tighten the oil embargo ongoing since 1962, a report by The Wall Street Journal from last month revealed that the Trump administration is looking for Cuban government insiders who might help negotiate an end to Communist rule in the country before the end of the year.
