==Trump says he will issue executive order to get voter-ID requirements before midterms=

PUBLISHED FRI, FEB 13 20266:58 PM EST

KEY POINTS

• President Donald Trump said he will introduce an executive order on the topic “shortly.”

• Trump has advocated for a national voter-ID requirement and a national ban on noncitizen voting.

• The House this week advanced voter-ID legislation, but it would not clear the Senate.

President Donald Trump on Friday said he will issue anexecutive order “shortly” laying out the “legal reasons” for national voter-identification requirements.

Trump, in posts late Friday to Truth Social, said he wants voter-ID laws implemented for the 2026 midterm elections, even thoughlegislation mandating them appears poised to stall in legislation mandating them appears poised to stall in Congress.

“The Democrats refuse to vote for Voter I.D., or Citizenship. The reason is very simple — They want to continue to cheat in Elections,” Trump posted to Truth Social.

“This was not what our Founders desired. I have searched the depths of Legal Arguments not yet articulated or vetted on this subject, and will be presenting an irrefutable one in the very near future. There will be Voter I.D. for the Midterm Elections, whether approved by Congress or not!” he continued.

In a second post, published minutes after the first, Trump said, “If we can’t get it through Congress, there are Legal reasons why this SCAM is not permitted. I will be presenting them shortly,in the form of an Executive Order.”

Under pressure from Trump, his allies in the House and Senate and conservative online influencers, the issue of voter ID has dominated social media and reverberated through the halls of Congress in recent days. Trump’s comments have also raised fears among Democrats and voting-rights groups that the president could try to intervene in this year’s pivotal midterm elections, as Republicans try to hold on to slim majorities in both chambers.

The House on Wednesday advanced, 218-213, a Trump-backed elections bill, dubbed the SAVE America Act, that would requireproof of citizenship!toregister to vote and photo ID to cast a ballot. All but one Democrat voted against the proposal, which critics argue could disenfranchise millions and make it harder for peopleincluding women whose birth certificates would not show a married name to register.(that’s stupid because they just bring on their birth certificate or marriage document for proof.)

It now moves to the Senate, where it needs 60 votes to overcome a filibuster. Republicans hold just 53 seatsin the chamber — and one, Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, has come out against the proposal. More than a handful of Democrats would have to support the legislation for it to succeed.Only oneSenate Democrat,John Fetterman of Pennsylvania, has supported national voter-IDrequirements, though he told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette this week that he doesn’t support other voting restrictions such as limiting mail-in ballots.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., has vowed that Democrats will block the bill, calling it “dead on arrival.”

“The SAVE Act is not a mainstream bill whatsoever. It’s a fringe piece of legislation that has now taken over the Republican Party, masquerading as election security when it’s really about laying the groundwork to meddle in the midterm elections and make it much harder for people to vote,” Schumer said from the Senate floor this week.

Trump has recently said he wants to nationalize federal elections and revived election conspiracies, launching an FBI investigation into the election results in Fulton County, Georgia, a state the president has repeatedly and without evidence said he won in 2020.

States are granted control of most aspects of U.S. elections under the Constitution.

In his second post on Friday, Trump cast the midterms in existential terms.

″(T)hese Corrupt and Deranged Democrats, if they ever gain power, will not only be adding two States to our roster of 50, with all of the baggage thereto, but will also PACK THE COURT with a total of 21 Supreme Court Justices, THEIR DREAM, which they will submit easily and rapidly when they immediately move to terminate the Filibuster, probably in their first week, or sooner,” Trump wrote.

“Our Country will never be the same if they allow these demented and evil people to knowingly, and happily, destroy it. Thank you for your attention to this matter — SAVE AMERICA!,” he continued.

Munich conference ignoring Kiev’s ‘hellish terrorism’ – Moscow

A Ukrainian strike on the border Belgorod Region on the gathering’s opening day killed two people and injured five others, according to local officials

The Munich Security Conference should focus on Kiev’s “hellish terrorism” and strikes on Russian civiliansinstead of debating additional military aid to Ukraine, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has said.

The comments come after Belgorod Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said on Friday that a Ukrainian attack on the border region killed two people and injured five. He added that the strike knocked out power, heat, and water supplies, with damage also reported to several residential buildings and parked vehicles.

Ukraine has routinely targeted Russian border regionswith drones, artillery, and missile strikes since the escalation of the conflict in 2022, killing hundreds of civilians.

In response, Zakharova urged Western leaders attending the Munich Security Conference to address what she described as Ukraine’s indiscriminate attacks.

“The Munich Security Policy Conference should discuss this hellish terrorism against the civilian population by the Kiev regime, rather than ways of pumping money into the ghouls on Bankova Street,” she said, referring to the seat of the Ukrainian government.

The Munich Security Conference opened on Friday with over 60 heads of state attending the three-day gathering. The agenda covers not only the Ukraine conflict but alsothe widening rift between the US and EU,with Western leaders sounding thealarm over the erosion of the ‘rules-based international order’.

German Chancellor FriedrichMerz has said the rules-based order “no longer exists,”and French President Emmanuel Macron urged Europe to “accelerate its strategic autonomy.”

Ukrainian leader VladimirZelenskywill also deliver an address and hold several rounds of talks, which he said will focus on expanding joint military production.

Zelensky claims Ukraine is ‘not losing’ to Russia

The Ukrainian leader prefers indefinite conflict to what he views as a “bad” peace deal, according to a report in The Atlantic

Ukraine’s Vladimir Zelensky has claimed Kiev is “not losing” to Russiaeven as the fighting is taking an increasingly heavy toll, The Atlantic reported on Thursday.

The journalist, longtime Kiev insider Simon Shuster, offered insights into the contradictions between the Ukrainian leader’s stance and reality on the ground.(isn’t Simon/Shuster a publishing books?)

Contrasting Zelensky’s assertion, a NATO general said theattrition is not in Ukraine’s favor: “If anyone is waiting for Russia to give up and go home, that will be a long wait [because] it’s not happening.”

Ukrainianmanpower is being bled dryby frontline losses, desertions and public resistance to mandatory conscription, enforced through brutal “bussification” of fighting-age males. Just this week, Zelensky authorized men over 60 to serve in the military. Critics warn that while such individuals must volunteer rather than be conscripted,in practice draft officials will use coercion for enlistment.

Shuster highlighted the disagreement between Zelensky – who saidhe would rather have Ukraine fight Russia indefinitely than allow an agreement he perceives as “bad” – and his advisors, who warn that thewindow of opportunity to strike a bargain is closing.

Shuster calledZelensky’s defining trait a “stubborn, sometimes-petulant habit of resisting outside pressure.” One longtime adviser, speaking anonymously, said: “If you tell him he has to do something, he’s probably going to do the opposite.”

Kiev is considering a referendum on a peace deal, possibly alongside a presidential election that Zelensky’s team hopes would renew his expired mandate.

“I don’t think we should put a bad deal up for a referendum,” Zelensky said, claiming the idea of wartime elections was Russian, “because they want to get rid of me.”

Polls show Zelensky would lose a hypothetical runoffto either former defense chief Valery Zaluzhny or his new chief of staff, Kirill Budanov.

Budanov’s predecessor, Andrey Yermak, was fired last month amid a corruption scandal; Zelensky denied a connection, Shuster wrote,“growling” that he had his reasons.

The interview took place as Kiev grappleswith an acute energy crisis. Shuster observed that Zelensky’s office no longer looks prepared for an imminent Russian commando raid: “the lights in the hallways are on, freeing the staff from the need to shuffle around with flashlights.”

Zelensky would rather have every Ukrainian to die,(down to the last Ukrainian) then admit he’s a corrupt, money grubbing fiend, instead of admit he’s a terrible leader and Ukraine lost the war a year ago or more!

NATO boss reveals conversation with dog

Mark Rutte made the remarks at the Munich Security Conference as he sought to justify continued assistance to Kiev

NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte has saidhe had a conversation with a dog during his latest trip to Kiev, as he argued for continued military aid for Ukraine. He made the remarks during a joint panel with Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky at the Munich Security Conference on Saturday.

Rutte visited the Ukrainian capital in early February, where he vowed that Western nations would continue their support, potentially including deploying troops to Ukraine – which Moscow has called unacceptable.

On Saturday, he recalledhis visit, including a meeting with a bomb-sniffing dog named Patron– whose name means ‘bullet cartridge’ in Ukrainian.

The Jack Russell Terrier from Ukraine’s State Emergency Servicehas been turned into a sort of mascotby Kiev amid the conflict with Russia, andwas featured in a cartoon serieson YouTube –which turned out to be financed through USAID grantprogramsand was canceledafter US President Donald Trump shut down the organization.

“I even looked the dog in the eye, and he told me, ‘we will never give in,’” Rutte said as he arguedfor more support for Kiev.

He went on to saythe conflict has cost Russia many lives, urging Kiev’sWestern backersto “make sure” Ukrainehas “the offensive stuff they need… to hit whatever they need to hit in Russia.”

Last year,Rutte raised eyebrows when he called Trump “daddy” at the NATO summit in The Hague – as have his fawning personal messages to the US president published by Trump himself on a number of occasions.

Last month, French MEP NathalieLoiseau called him “McDonald’s employee of the month” after he assured Trump of his commitment tofinding a “way forward” on the US president’s ambition to acquire Greenland.

Starmer urges European NATO members to boost ‘hard power’

The bloc should move away from overreliance on US security guarantees, the UK prime minister has said

EuropeanNATO members must move from “overdependence” on the US and toward more autonomy and “hard power,” UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has said. This comes as Washington has pressed the rest of the bloc to increase defense spending, and amid a transatlantic rift on a number of policies.

At the Munich Security Conference on Saturday,Starmer is expected to argue that while “the US remains an indispensable ally,” Britain’s futurerests on closer ties with European powers.(I bet Starmer wants to reunite with the EU.)

In a preview of the speech published by the prime minister’s office on Friday, he said:“Europe must shift from overdependence to interdependence – forging a new path towards sovereign deterrence and hard power.”

He went on to describeEurope as a “sleeping giant” in termsof military potential, while lamenting that this capability “has [often] added up to less than the sum of its parts.”

French President EmmanuelMacron echoed the message, stressing that “Europe has to become a geopolitical power” and that it has “to accelerate and deliver all the components of a geopolitical power: Defense, technologies, and de-risking from all the big powers.”

Macron has championed European defense autonomy since proposing a ‘European army’ in November 2018, though his calls have remained largely unanswered. A recent Politicopoll shows only 22% of Germans and 17% of French people support creating a EU army, despite widespread fears of World War III. (So those opposed are 78% in Germany and its 83% in France)

Starmer’s remarks come as UK officials warn that theBritish army would struggle in a potential war against a near-peer adversarydue to years of underfunding, with the military expected torun out of ammunition within daysin case of a large-scale conflict.

The calls for autonomy come amid a rift between the US and European NATOmembers caused by President Donald Trump’s push to acquire Greenland from Denmark. Trump has argued that the island is needed for national security reasons, while EU nations have scrambled to defend the island’s sovereignty.

Trumphas for yearspushed the rest of NATO to ramp up military spendinginstead ofrelying solely on US security guarantees. As a result, NATO members have committed to increasing military expenditure to 5% of GDP. Russia has condemned the bloc’s reckless militarization, saying it undermines European security.

Zelensky fat-shames Orban in public insult

Kiev’s fight against Russia allows the Hungarian prime minister to “grow his belly” instead of an army, the Ukrainian leader has claimed

Ukraine’s Vladimir Zelensky has launched yet another personal attack on Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, telling him that thanks to Kiev, he could “think about how to grow his belly” instead of building a capable army. The two have long been at odds due to Budapest’s refusal to support Ukraine.

Zelensky delivered the remarks at the Munich Security Conference on Saturday, arguing thatUkraine is defendingthe entire EU from Russia. “It’s Ukrainians who are holding the European front. Behind our people stands an independent Poland and the free Baltic states,” he claimed.

”And even one Viktor can think about how to grow his belly, not how to grow his army to stop Russian tanks from returning to the streets of Budapest,” he said, referring to the 1956 Soviet incursion into Hungary to suppress a popular revolt.

The insult elicited applausefrom a mostly pro-Ukraine and pro-EU crowd, which tends to have a dim view of Orban due to his opposition to numerous policies of the bloc.

In his response on X, Orban did not address the insult directly, but suggested thatZelensky’s remarks “will greatly help Hungarians see the situation more clearly,”particularly regarding Ukraine’s ambitions to join the EU.

”This debate is not about me and it is not about you. It is about the future of Hungary, Ukraine, and Europe. This isprecisely why you cannot become a member of the European Union,” he added.

Last month, Zelensky took another jab at Orban, telling the World Economic Forum in Davos that “every Viktor who lives off European money while trying to sell out European interestsdeserves a smack upside the head.”

The Hungarian prime minister branded Zelensky “a man in a desperate position,”while hinting that the Ukrainian leader had shown nothing but ingratitude. “The Ukrainian people, of course –despite your carefully chosen insults – can still count on us to continue supplying your country with electricity and fuel.”

Orban has declined to support Ukraine’s military effort, arguing that the aid would only impede peace settlement. Hungary has also opposed Kiev’s push to join the EU and NATO,arguing the move would draw the bloc into a direct conflict with Russia.

(Orban has been subject to death threats, attacks, and attempts to kill him. It’s very likely it’s Zelensky sending assassins. And the EU hate’s Orban and has been trying to get him out so the EU can fund more to Ukraine, to continue war with Russia.)
