Albo called out for importing Indian voters
Firebrand Senator Jacinta Nampijinpa Price has reignited the controversy over her claim that the Albanese Government prioritises Indian migration for votes, declaring she won’t be silenced.
Declaring, “I’m back, baby”, the exiled senator said she had nothing to apologise for regarding the comments that led to her banishment to the backbench.
Senator Price was removed from the shadow ministry last year by former Liberal Leader Sussan Ley after she declined to apologise for comments made during a September 3 interview on the ABC TV.
In that interview, Senator Price said of migration levels: “Of course, there is a focus from this government to be getting them from particular countries over others.”
When asked whether Labor was bringing in migrants likely to support it politically, she said: “Absolutely. This is Labor. Basically, it’s power at any cost.”
Referring to the Indian community, she added: “We can see that reflected in the way that the community votes for Labor at the same time.”
She later described those remarks as “certainly clumsy” but did not apologise blaming the ABC for trying to create controversy.
When asked why she had not joined One Nation, Senator Price said it was “never a thought really to go to One Nation”, despite confirming that Pauline Hanson had called her.
“I share a lot of values with One Nation, but ultimately it’s not … I believe in Liberal values,” she said.
