technically it is, it is protected under the first amendment. First off Lies are protected and there is a clause in the constitution article 1 section 6, which gives them immunity. Which makes it impossible to sue them for slander or libel.
i am not interpreting it is how it has been interpreted. For regular people lies are legal, until it becomes defamation.Which does have legal remedies.
